Watch the Redskins mess this up and end up having to either way over pay for him, or lose him next year when the franchise tag is so ridiculous after Luck signs his deal. Pay now or pay later... Oh to be a Redskins fan! I can't imagine why they wouldn't give him at least a better deal than Tannehill's 4 year $77 million deal. They already saved a crap ton not paying RG3 and what are they going to do, sign Sam Bradford or Johnny Manziel. Draft another QB? What is it with these franchises like the Redskins and Cleveland that just don't get their collective dung together.....
He kind of has them by the short hairs here.
Could argue on the open market that a couple of teams would be interested in him.
The tag for this year I think is 19 million.

      Lions released RB Joique Bell.
It's a no-brainer move for the Lions, who move forward with Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner at running back.

Lions informed MLB Stephen Tulloch of his release.
The move apparently won't become official until the start of the new league year, but we're marking Tulloch as cut for bookkeeping purposes. His release frees up $6 million in cap space for the Lions. Returning from a torn ACL, Tulloch started all 16 games in 2015, playing 737 snaps in his age-30 season. Tulloch turned 31 last month.

Ex-Raiders and Packers DB Charles Woodson has joined ESPN as an analyst.
With his 18-year career over, Woodson will be joining ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown, replacing Keyshawn Johnson.

Heath Miller announced his retirement after 11 seasons in the NFL.
Miller will retire as the Steelers' all-time leader in touchdowns (45) and catches (592) by a tight end. A fan favorite throughout his 11-year stay in Pittsburgh, Miller played in three Super Bowls, winning two of them. He was also named to two Pro Bowls while starting 167 of 168 career regular games.

NFL suspended Cowboys DE Randy Gregory four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
Gregory was a consensus top-ten talent leading up to last year's draft but his stock plummeted after testing positive for marijuana at the Scouting Combine. Apparently, not much has changed.

            Rams released TE Jared Cook.
Los Angeles also pulled the plug on DE Chris Long and LB James Laurinaitis. Those three were scheduled to earn $22.525 million in base salary for 2016.

              Jets released CB Antonio Cromartie.
The long-expected move clears $8 million in cap space and leaves behind no dead money. Cromartie re-signed with the Jets to great fanfare last March, inking a "four-year, $32 million" deal, but ended up being one of the league's worst cornerbacks during his age-31 season.

                  Texans released RB Arian Foster.
Foster was healthy for only four games last year and has missed 23 games over the past three seasons. His release saves $6.625 million in cap space. Foster is entering his age-30 season and wasn't worth keeping around. His effectiveness is in question coming off a torn Achilles, but he should draw starting interest if healthy.

                  Falcons released WR Roddy White.
White spent his first 11 years in Atlanta and is their all-time leading receiver. The Falcons wanted to keep him for his veteran presence, but couldn't justify his $6.1 million cap hit. 34-year-old White has been in decline the last two seasons and struggled with injuries despite starting all 16 games last year

Peyton Manning will announce his retirement Monday in Denver.
Manning had one year left on his contract, but he's content to walk away after winning his second Super Bowl last month against Carolina. Announcing his retirement now is the right call as Manning likely would have been cut ahead of free agency. He'll go down as arguably the best regular season quarterback of all time with five MVP awards, 14 Pro Bowl nods, and a league record 539 career touchdown passes.

Redskins released QB Robert Griffin III.
The move saves $16.155 million against the cap. Washington had been holding out faint hope they could trade the former No. 2 overall pick, but that market expectantly came to nothing. Now a free agent, Griffin is expected to receive interest from "at least 10 teams."

Re: NFL Off Season News, Rumors And Discussion

Lions WR Calvin Johnson announced his retirement from the NFL after nine seasons.
Johnson filed his retirement papers, making the transaction official. In an offseason of legends hanging up their cleats, Johnson's stepping-away is the biggest shocker. He's only 30 years old and would seem to have another 4-5 seasons left if he chose. But Megatron hasn't been able to stay healthy for the better part of the past three seasons, though he did start all 16 games in 2015. Johnson missed a ton of practice time with ankle issues, however, and his body just seemed to be breaking down. Johnson was legitimately one of the most dominant receivers of all time and has a strong Hall-of-Fame case despite playing just nine years.

Re: NFL Off Season News, Rumors And Discussion

Jaguars agreed to terms with RB Chris Ivory, formerly of the Jets.
This one comes out of left field. T.J. Yeldon was the 36th pick in last year's draft, but the Jaguars don't necessarily view him as a 20-plus touch-per-game back.

The Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud reports the Bucs are "nearing a deal" with free agent Doug Martin.
It's expected to come in around $6.85 million per year after Chris Ivory was able to somehow land $6 million-plus annually from the Jaguars, setting the market for running backs. The dominos are starting to fall with Ivory going to Jacksonville, Martin likely staying put, and Lamar Miller reportedly on his way to Houston.

Raiders agreed to terms with SLB Bruce Irvin, formerly of the Seahawks.
Being dubbed a "pass rusher" by the media, Irvin has just 22 career sacks in four full seasons. He's more of a strong-side linebacker and should improve that area of Oakland's defense.

Titans acquired RB DeMarco Murray from the Eagles in exchange for undisclosed draft pick compensation.
NFL observers should be impressed with Eagles GM Howie Roseman, who in a matter of days will be unloading a huge chunk of salary, and three players who were almost entirely ineffective in 2015. Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell are also headed out the door. Murray averaged 3.64 yards per carry last season, and his legs have appeared dead since the end of the 2014 campaign in Dallas, where Murray amassed nearly 500 all-purpose touches. In theory, Murray will give the Titans a bellcow running back and provide an upgrade on Antonio Andrews.

ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini reports the Lions have agreed to terms with free agent WR Marvin Jones.
This is why the Lions pushed Calvin Johnson so hard for his retirement decision before the free-agent market opened Monday with the legal tampering period. Jones will slide in as the Lions' new No. 1 receiver and top red-zone option out wide, keeping Golden Tate in a complementary role as a shifty 1B to Jones' 1A. Jones was easily the top receiver on the market after Alshon Jeffery was franchise-tagged by the Bears

Chargers agreed to terms with WR Travis Benjamin, formerly of the Browns, on a multi-year contract.
Benjamin was widely expected to remain with the Browns, but talks broke down on the verge of free agency. He replaces Malcom Floyd as the Chargers' go-to deep threat, and will be a legitimate No. 2 alongside Keenan Allen.
