Hockey East doing a hell of a job pushing their bubble teams out of the tourney and will probably continue with the resurgent Huskies playing in Merrimack. Right now BU and Merrimack are the only pair inside the top 15 with BC, Uconn, Providence, UML, Umass and Northeastern all between 16-27

    A couple beauties this weekend

    Denver vs St Cloud
    Michigan vs Minnesota
    Quinnipiac vs Cornell
    Uconn vs Umass
    Penn St vs Notre Dame

      some post-Christmas freefalls....
Providence imploding, 1-1-4 L6 including losses to UNH, Princeton, and Maine. What's wild is they are #1 in nation in Corsi
Mich St predictably falling apart now 2 wins, 8 losses, 1 shootout win L11
Notre Dame have not won b2b reg games since Oct 21. New shot at it tonight
Umass wtf? 6 straight losses scoring a combined 9 goals

      on the other end....

Minnesota State with 7 straight regulation wins in January
Mich Tech at least a point in 7 of last 8 with 6 wins
Cornell with just 1 regulation loss in 14
BU just crushing it on offense with 30 goals in last 5 games and now 8-1 L9 only loss to Mich Tech
Same deal with Western Michigan....41 goals scored in 7 game winning streak. now just behind BU in goals per game
Gophers continue rocking. 1 regulation loss since Nov 10 (!)... best team in country along with Denver
RIT giving Atlantic a shot at at-large if they don't win conf tourney. now 6 wins and a shootout loss in 7
Levi on fire since the Harvard shocker. allowed 5 in last 4 games, all regulation wins
UM Lowell back from the dead winning 5 of 6. #3 in nation in goals allowed per game

Current pairwise not good for Hockey East with only BU in top 15. they load up the bubble at 16-18-20-22-23
Cornell, Harvard, and Quinnipiac all inside top 11 for ECAC could get more bids than Hockey East
Big10 locks with PSU, MICH, OSU, and MINN with ND and Mich State on bubble
NoDak is a top 5 team in the nation except their goalies suck. Only Air Force have worse Save % (by 0.001)
Hockey East #1, 3, 4 in save % with UML, Umass, and Northeastern
The top 2 power plays (NoDak, Umass) will need to win their conf tourney to get a bid

UMass beat up with injuries, inconsistent goalies and really miss Kessel & Lopina (STL & ANA) who left too early. Big test for Greg Carvel to reload for next season. Toast this season.

another great performance from Devon Levi and the Huskies win 5th straight with Uconn up Friday and then the Beanpot on Monday

Northeastern now well within at-large spot in Pairwise. They are up to 19th but just .048 from 15th ... Uconn sits in 16th just .041 ahead of Northeastern so winner of that game will move up....

I'm putting mortgage on the Huskies in that game.

              17-5-2

              Beanpot semis are tonight

against a 6 total there would have been 17 unders, 2 pushes, and just 5 overs since 2010 in semifinal day

the big OVER beet is the consolation match next week as 6 straight and 8 of last 9 reached at least 6 goals.

                coming down the stretch

Atlantic = RIT can't be caught, they have won the regular season so now Sacred Heart and AIC will battle for 2nd
Big 10 = Minnesota won in landslide fashion. Mich, MSU, OSU fight for 2nd
CCHA = Mich Tech in must win spot tonight to set up a 1-game Saturday matchup vs Minn State for the title. MSU can wrap up another CCHA reg season tonight
ECAC = Quinn won reg season, Harvard vs Cornell for 2nd
HEast = Northeastern in drivers seat with reeling BU 2nd and Merrimack trying to hang around in 3rd
NCHC = Denver can wrap it up in WM but WM or Omaha can take the title if Denver slips and they sweep

                the big games on 2/24:
                Michigan Tech at Minnesota State
Harvard at STL, Cornell at Brown
NE at UMASS, Merr at UML, BU at Vermont
Denver at WMU, SCSU at Omaha

                  crazy FRI night

Northeastern dropped 5 spots in Pairwise by losing at UMass, Notre Dame climbed 2 spots by tying at Michigan, and Merrimack jumped 3 spots by winning in Lowell. And somehow Alaska moved up 5 spots by winning at #40 Arizona State.

Northeastern is getting smoked in Pairwise because of early season losses to Sacred Heart, Union, and Bentley. None of those 3 won last night which made their loss in Amherst hurt so bad.

CHN podcast is wasting their time, and reputation, making the case for Alaska being a true tourney team

put it this way. HALF their wins were against Arizona State and Alaska-Anchorage with another 3 against Long Island. That's 13 of 20 wins against teams with a Pairwise of 41, 50, and 58. Toss in a win vs St Thomas (47), AIC (32), RPI (49), and that means 16 of 20 wins against teams in the bottom half in the country. And next up is a pair against Lindenwood who are above only Dartmouth in the Pairwise. That'll be 17 of 22 wins against the worst 20 teams in the nation

                      Conference Tourney finals this weekend

                      Friday Semifinals

NCHC = CoC vs Denver, NDU vs SCSU to be played in St Paul. Denver will have no issues with CoC while ND can likely only make the NCAAs by beating St Cloud on Friday then Denver on Saturday

Hockey East = Prov vs BU, UML vs Merrimack in Boston. Best case for Hockey East is BU and Merrimack grab at-large and either UML or Providence wins this weekend. Merrimack have never won the Hockey East tourney

ECAC = no surprises here with Cornell vs Harvard, Colgate vs Quinnipiac playing in Lake Placid. ECAC would love Colgate to win this weekend but won't happen. I'm already locked in on Cornell/Harvard under 6 -115

                      Saturday Finals

Big 10 = Michigan at Minnesota. Both are locked in for tourney, Michigan playing for a 1 seed and Minny for the overall 1 seed. Rematch of last year's Big 10 final

CCHA = Northern Mich vs Minn State = NMU must win to make tourney, Minn State might be able to lose and still make it. A NMU upset here could make CCHA a 3 invite league. Both teams playing great

Atlantic = Holy Cross at Canisius. goodness gracious. Playing to see who loses to Minnesota by 4 goals

Fargo, ND = Minn vs Canisius, Minn State vs St Cloud ... SCSU small fav over MST but haven't seen a line for Minnesota. Guessing around -350

Bridgeport, CT = Quinnipiac vs Merrimack, Ohio State vs Harvard ... Quinnipiac decent fav in this one while OSU/HARV basically a pk'em

Manchester, NH = BU vs WMU, Cornell vs Denver ... no lines yet but BU a-135 fav and Denver probably in the -170 range. BU game is the only one up with a total >5.5

Allentown, PA = Michigan vs Colgate, Michigan Tech vs Penn St ... Penn State solid fav and Michigan will be big fav

                        odds:
                        Minn +250
                        Michigan +350
                        Denver +550
                        Quinnipiac +600
                        SCSU, BU +1200
                        Harvard +2000
                        PSU, WMU, OSU +2200
                        Minn State +2800
                        Michigan Tech, Merrimack +5000

Colgate, Cornell, and Canisus no odds posted

look out for Boston College next year.

The Eagles will be getting the current top line of USA's world junior u18 team which came through as the top line of the national development program. The u18 team plays college teams every week and typically do so with great success. Last night, Gabe Perreault recorded his 118th point to set a new @USAHockeyNTDP record for most points in a single season passing some guy named Auston Matthews a day after passing Jack Hughes. He finished the night with five points (3g-2a) and now has 121 points (51g-70a) across 58 games on the 2022-23 campaign.

They are currently ranked the #3, 8 and 10 players in the 2023 draft

                            https://thehockeynews.com/news/u-18-...made-in-heaven

Smith, Perreault and Leonard all committed to Boston College next year and could form an all-freshman line that would be among the NCAA’s most entertaining. The familiarity could help ease the adjustment to full-time NCAA hockey, especially considering they have been quite good against the college competition.
