  • Fantasy Football Discussion Week 15.

ESPN's Vikings blogger Ben Goessling reports Adrian Peterson (foot) will not need surgery, but he is not expected to play in Week 15 against the Eagles.
Peterson is in a walking boot after suffering what the Vikings are calling a "mid-foot sprain" Sunday against the Ravens. The news that he doesn't need surgery is great for the long term, but we still need to consider Peterson questionable at best for the remainder of the 2013 season. The Vikings are 3-9-1. They'll be in full-blown evaluation mode for the final three weeks. Risking the franchise player's health may not be worth it.

Jordan Todman will start Sunday's game against the Bills if Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) can't go.
The Jags were already talking up Todman as a committee partner to Jones-Drew. Now there's a real chance they get to evaluate him as a true feature back.

Speaking Monday, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said it was "too early to tell" on Eddie Lacy's (ankle) Week 15 status.
Lacy played through the injury in Sunday's loss, but was ineffective, admitting afterward that he wasn't himself. The fact that Lacy retook the field against the Falcons is a strong sign he's avoided a high-ankle sprain, but it sounds like he'll be 50-50 for Week 15. James Starks would get the start against the Cowboys if Lacy can't go

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on NFL Insiders that Wes Welker (concussion) is "very unlikely" to play Thursday night against the Chargers.
This is Welker's second concussion of the season, and the Broncos are now playing on a short week. "They're not ruling Welker out, but it's very unlikely he'll play," said Mort

According to FOX's Jay Glazer, the thinking inside the Redskins is that Mike Shanahan will start Kirk Cousins Sunday "unless RG3 is able to convince him otherwise."
Shanahan is prone to changing his mind often, but for now he's leaning toward starting Cousins for the final weeks of this lost season. The coach will say it's to protect Griffin from further injury, but holding him out of the first three games instead of the last three would have made infinitely more sense. Now it looks like Shanny is just trying to get fired by owner Daniel Snyder (instead of resigning) so he can collect his paycheck. Cousins would be entering a plus matchup at Atlanta, but there's tons of downside in a fantasy plug-n-play because the Redskins appear to have quit on their coach and the season.

Gerhart. I think they consider sitting Peterson at some point. There is no reason for him to be playing injured at this point.
Patterson is good for one of the leagues I'm in. You get points for kick return yardage.

According to FOX's Jay Glazer, Wes Welker (concussion) will not play in Thursday night's game against the Chargers.
The Broncos figure to make this official later Wednesday. Welker has sustained two concussions in the last month and had virtually no shot of gaining clearance on a short week

Boom-or-bust playoff starters for Week 15 (More »)
              By Fantasy Staff
              1. Andy Dalton QB,Cincinnati Bengals
According to the Consistency Ratings, Dalton has been far from reliable this season. In six of his 13 starts he's considered a "stiff," but when he shines, he's a stud. Dalton faces the Steelers fresh off a 30-point effort in Week 14.
              2. Donald Brown RB, Indianapolis Colts
It's hard to recommend anyone in the Colts' rushing game this season, but Brown does have the boom potential this week against the Texans. He's had double-digit efforts in three of the past five weeks.
              3. Delanie Walker TE, Tennessee Titans
Walker isn't a lock to start this week as he's still recovering from a concussion, but despite being one of the lowest tight ends in terms of consistency, he has a matchup against the Cardinals -- and they've allowed 14 touchdowns to opposing tight ends this year.
              4. Rod Streater WR, Oakland Raiders
Boasting a 30.8 percent consistency rating isn't what you want from a WR, but the past four weeks have offered a bit of a glimmer of hope for owners. He's now the go-to guy in Oakland, and the Raiders will probably be throwing a lot on Sunday.
              5. Brian Hartline WR, Miami Dolphins
Hartline ranks dead last in the consistency ratings. That said, he's really consistent ... if you want 3-6 points. He's had 19 catches on 35 targets over the past three weeks and goes against a Patriots secondary that couldn't stop the Browns last week. Boom or bust, right?

                Julian Edelman
                WR, New England Patriots

It's official. Julian Edelman has returned to fantasy relevance. After a stellar week 1, Edelman faded away to mediocrity and scored more than seven points only one time from Weeks 2-11. However, over the past three weeks, Edelman has 47 fantasy points, with touchdowns in two games. The season-ending injury to Rob Gronkowski boosts his value, but it was clear before his injury that Tom Brady had found a reinvigorated sense of reliability with Edelman. Even though Danny Amendola remains No. 1 on the Patriots' WR depth charts, Edelman is getting plenty of looks, making him extremely valuable in fantasy.
                Percy Harvin
                WR, Seattle Seahawks

Listen, if there's any question about his health, there's really no reason Harvin should see the field anytime soon. Acquired during the offseason, Harvin's injury has resulted in only one start and one catch so far this season. With the Seahawks already in the playoffs and a relatively soft schedule coming up (against the Giants, Cardinals and Rams), there's no reason to risk it. While coach Pete Carroll saves him for the playoffs, you can let Harvin go because he is unlikely to provide fantasy owners with much value during the final weeks. Even if he does play, his role would probably be limited.

Jay Cutler has been named the Bears' Week 15 starter.
Josh McCown, who's averaged 352 yards over his past three starts, is heading back to the bench. Coach Marc Trestman made the decision after Cutler got in a full practice on Thursday, experiencing "no residual issue" from Wednesday's session. It's a risky decision to mess with McCown's success, but absolutely the right call if the Bears have any intention of bringing Cutler back for 2014.

The Denver Post reports TE Virgil Green, and not TE Jacob Tamme, will get the start in place of Wes Welker Thursday against the Chargers.
Tamme played over Green in Sunday's win over the Titans, but the Broncos apparently decided to change things up after having four days to decide how they'll make up for the loss of Welker. Beat writer Mike Klis speculates Julius Thomas could man the slot in two-TE sets.

Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) is not practicing Friday.
Jones-Drew was targeting a Friday return all along. It wasn't in the cards. He doesn't need to practice in order to play on Sundays, but MJD is shaping up as a true game-time decision. It's also possible he could be ruled out at some point this weekend

Reggie Bush (calf) returned to practice Friday, and the Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett is giving Bush an "88.9 percent" chance of playing on Monday Night Football against Baltimore.
Birkett was half joking with the "88.9 percent," but he clearly expects Bush to play after seeing him move around on the practice field and at Lions headquarters

Adrian Peterson (foot) and Toby Gerhart (hamstring) are both listed as questionable for Week 15 against Philadelphia after returning to light practices on Friday.
Coach Leslie Frazier stated Friday that the Vikings would either decide Saturday or early Sunday on whether Peterson will play against the Eagles. "He looked far better than I'd anticipated," Frazier acknowledged after Friday's practice.
