  • TCU by the Drop

Ain't got nuttin better to do so figured I would do a down and dirty on my horned frogs. Lots of people think they don't deserve to be ranked as high as they are but they aren't a fluke.

First year head coach Sonny Dykes has led the Frogs to an undefeated season and in the conversation for coach of the year. Before the season TCU was picked to finish in the bottom third of the Big 12 standings and a total win number by Vegas at 6.5.
The OC is Garrett Riley...the younger brother of Lincoln Riley. Garrett has been announced as a finalist for the Broyles Award given to the best assistant coach in football. The Riley brothers know how to scheme up an offense. The DC is Joe Gillespie who Dykes hired away from Tulsa. Gillespie is known to run a 3-3-5 or 4-2-5 utilizing the speed and athleticism of TCU's defensive backs in a pass happy Big 12. Dykes said he hired Gillespie because he hated going against that 3-3-5 alignment.

QB Max Duggan is a senior and is getting some Heisman consideration. He is big and athletic and a dual threat. He has thrown for over 3000 yards this season with a 66.6% completion rate with 29 TDs to only 3 picks. Max has 17 TD passes of 20+ yards this season. He sees the field well and can get the ball to the open receiver.

Offensive Line is filled with size and experience. (3 seniors and 2 RS juniors) The same 5 have played every game this season. They have been solid all year.

RB Kendre Miller is 6' 220 with a strong lower body and runs a 4.58 40. He has 1260 yards with 16 TDs and a 6.3 average. He is a star. His back up is Emari Demercado. A very solid #2 with 445 yards and 5 Tds with an average of 5.2/carry. Miller saw ligh action last week to save him for the Championship game. He said on Tuesday that he felt better than he has all season and that his legs were fresh.

WRs are led by Jr Quentin Johnston. He is 6'4" 215 and will be a top 15 draft pick. He has 49 catches for 764 yards and 5 Tds. He has been bothered by an ankle and was held out last week but could have played if necessary. Word is this week that he is back to 100% and looks great at practice. On the other side is Savion Williams. A 6'5" junior who is solid as well. Add to the group is speedster Derius Davis. 5'11" 175 WR and return specialist is lightning fast and ran track in high school. He was clocked at over 23 mph on a kickoff return for a TD this season.

Needless to say the offense is solid everywhere and put up 473 yards/game and are 4th in the nation in scoring offense averaging 41.3 points.

It took some time for the defense to catch up to the new scheme but they have been playing solid ball recently allowing an average of 19 points per game in the last 4. The defense is led by two studs at CB. Josh Newton and Tre Hodges-Tomlinson. Tomlinson is the nephew of HOF Rb LaDainian.
He is one of 3 finalists for the Jim Thorpe award for the best defensive back in the nation.

Can Kansas State beat these guys? Maybe ....but they didn't earlier this year and this Frogs squad has only gotten better since then.

Now that's a man who knows his horned frogs! Or is just horny. Not sure!! I sure hope they hang on and beat K St this weekend. What a story for Dykes, his coaching staff and his players. Think they caught a break moving up to 3 to avoid Georgia in Rd 1 if they make it. Don't think they can beat Mich, and definitely not the dawgs, but it would be nice to see them get their chance. On any given Saturday, right?!? Big game this weekend. Good luck, life!
