    On Today's Scorecard
    Real Dirty Dozen
Today we move on to the PAC-12 conference as we extend our final visit of the Power 5 conferences, where softness is often the first word that comes to mind when it comes to describing the condition of this football conference.

Bold predictions for the PAC-12 this season include –

    • USC just misses a New Year's Six bowl game:The Trojans are going to have plenty of star power this season. Lincoln Riley, one of the brightest offensive minds in the game, brought in Oklahoma transfers Caleb Williams and Mario Williams to shore up USC's offense, along with reigning Biletnikoff Award winner Jordan Addison. But, USC's offensive line still needs work, and DC Alex Grinch is going to have to rebuild a defense that ranked 11th in scoring defense (31.8 points) in 2021. The Trojans will be better, but they'll lose to Utah twice, first on the road on Oct. 15 and again in the PAC-12 championship game.

    • Oregon's Dan Lanning is the best first-year coach: Lanning helped Georgia end its 41-year national title drought as its defensive coordinator. He's a first-time head coach, and the Ducks will have some early hiccups against the Bulldogs in Atlanta on Sept. 3 and at Washington State three weeks later. After a 2-2 start, the Ducks will get it rolling to finish 8-4. Auburn transfer Bo Nix is going to send Oregon fans on another roller coaster ride, but Oregon's defense and its veteran and talented offensive line will carry the load.

    Ringworm
They say the early bird gets the worm. Don't tell that to this year's top two Heisman Trophy favorites, CJ Stroud of Ohio State and Bryce Young of Alabama.

That's because, per SaturdayDownSouth.com, dating to 2009, there was just ONE instance in which a preseason Top-2 Heisman candidate actually won the award. That was Marcus Mariota, who had the 2nd-best Heisman odds before the 2014 season.

Stroud and Young top this year's list of choices at +200 and +400 respectively.

Going into the 2021 season last year, the Top-2 Heisman Trophy favorites were Spencer Rattler at +800 and DJ Uiagalelei at +1100 (per FanDuel).

For Young to win he would become just the second player ever to win consecutive Heisman's, join Archie Griffin to Ohio State in 1974-75.

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Karl Dorrell is one of a handful of coaches residing on the hot seat this season.

He also loves taking points (25-12 ATS) and playing at home (27-12-1 ATS), where he sparkles even more as a home dog (12-2 ATS).

With new TCU coach Sonny Dykesa disaster as road chalk throughout his career (8-17 ATS overall, including 3-16 the last 19), it looks like we'll be roaming with Ralphie tonight.
