  • Winthrop as a popular first round bracket selection

    Really?

I understand that Collin Gillespie, the outstanding Villanova point guard and glue to the Wildcats team is out for the year with a knee injury. I also understand that they are not the same team without him. This is especially true when they are playing teams that have their level of talent.

But Winthrop......{Cue Alan Iverson}::: "Winthrop......we're talking about Winthrop"......a team that hasn't PLAYED anybody all season long ranked in the top 80 teams by Ken Pom. Not only that, but could any player on Winthrop actually break the starting line-up that Villanova puts on the floor? Maybe one....but that's about it. Playing in the Big South conference is not exactly great preparation for moving up this far in class....even if you did almost go undefeated for the season.

For all the love that Georgetown is getting this week, they beat Villanova by one stinking point in the Big East Tournament (without Gillespie)

Without Gillespie, the Wildcats aren't going far, but they aren't losing here. Trust Jay Wright to make the necessary adjustments to win this game.

Caveat...... remember that Lehigh once beat Duke, and Bucknell once beat Kansas.....so anything can happen.

    But Winthrop? We're talking Winthrop.
