      Tuesday’s NBA Betting Guide
      By: Marcus DiNitto
      Sportingnews.com

The Brooklyn Nets look to lock down the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs when they host the Knicks in NBA action on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET, TNT). Should Brooklyn secure that five seed and advance past the first round, they would likely get the Pacers – instead of the Heat – in the second round, as Indiana has clinched the conference's top seed. That seems like enough motivation for Jason Kidd’s group tonight.

The Knicks, meanwhile, are trying to keep their focus despite being eliminated from the playoffs when Atlanta beat Miami Saturday night. On Sunday, New York beat Chicago 100-89 at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks have won 14 of their last 19 straight up.

"Mentally, you just had to put yourself in that mindset,” said Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony. “Although you're not playing for nothing, if you suit up, you've still got to go out there and play ball.”

      Line: Brooklyn -6, Total: 192.5

Nets bettors have torn up their tickets after four of Brooklyn’s last five games, but the team has been dominant at home since the beginning of February. They’ve won 16 of their last 17 at Barclays Center, covering the spread 13 times during that stretch.

The Knicks are 16-26 ATS as an underdog this season.

All three meetings this season between the cross-town rivals have been blowouts. Brooklyn lost by 30 at home in December and 29 at Madison Square Garden earlier this month, but beat New York 103-80 at MSG in January.

      Denver Nuggets at L.A. Clippers (-9, 220)

Chris Paul insists the Clippers are “still playing for something,” but they’ll need Oklahoma City to lose at home to Detroit on Wednesday to have chance to claim the West’s No. 2 seed.

L.A. is one win from setting a new single-season franchise record. We’re not sure that’s enough justification for laying the points tonight.

The Nuggets have won three of their last four games after dropping six of seven, and have been a very profitable bet even as they’ve languished outside of the playoff picture. Denver has covered the spread in six of its last seven, and is on a 13-4 ATS run. While they failed to get the cash as 9.5-point favorites in Saturday’s 101-94 home win over Utah, it’s been over a month since they’ve dropped two in a row against the number.

"I'm proud of them and the way they're finishing up this season," coach Brian Shaw said. "I think this is exactly what we wanted to see ending up the season to carry over into next season, win or lose, the kind of effort it's going to take and the togetherness we're going to need to be successful."

Denver point guard Ty Lawson is expected to miss his fifth straight game with a sprained left ankle.
