Game of the Day: Thunder at Bulls
    By Covers.com

Oklahoma City Thunder at Chicago Bulls (+3.5, 195)

Russell Westbrook is expected to be back in the lineup for the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Chicago Bulls on Monday, and it sure looks like they could use him. Westbrook sat out as a precaution on the first night of a back-to-back and the Thunder never got much going on either end in a 109-86 loss at Dallas on Sunday. The Bulls are winners of two straight and are trying to track down the Toronto Raptors for the No. 3 spot in the Eastern Conference.

Westbrook and Oklahoma City appeared to be rounding into form with two wins that included strong defensive efforts along with All-Star performances from the recovering point guard. The Thunder looked like a much different team at home against the Mavericks on Sunday, when Kevin Durant scored 30 points but got little help. Chicago is a half-game behind the Raptors for the No. 3 spot as is comes into the finale of a six-game homestand with a 3-2 record.

LINE HISTORY: Suggested odds out of Las Vegas have the Thunder as 3.5-point road faves with a total of 195.

INJURY WATCH: Thunder - R. Westbrook (Prob, Rest)

WHAT THE SHARPS SAY: "The Thunder certainly aren't doing their part in holding up the potential for a 2012 rematch in the NBA Finals." Covers Experts Bryan Power

WHY BET THE THUNDER (48-18 SU, 36-29-1 ATS, 34-32 O/U): Oklahoma City has slipped two games behind the surging San Antonio Spurs for the top spot in the Western Conference after Sunday’s loss and will play three straight and four of the next five on the road. Westbrook is being brought along slowly after his third knee surgery and coach Scott Brooks elected to sit him for Sunday’s home game instead of the road contest on the back-to-back set. Westbrook turned in one of his better games in Thursday’s 131-102 rout of the Los Angeles Lakers with 29 points on 9-of-17 shooting to go along with nine assists and three steals in 23 minutes.

WHY BET THE BULLS (37-29 SU, 34-32 ATS, 27-39 O/U): Chicago absolutely crushed the last Western Conference contender it faced with a 111-87 rout of the Houston Rockets on Thursday but had a little more trouble in Saturday’s 94-87 triumph over the lowly Sacramento Kings. Joakim Noah continues to carry the Bulls and put up 23 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and five blocks against the Kings. “He really does it all for us,” forward Mike Dunleavy told reporters of Noah. “He brings it every night. He’s an inspiring teammate. When you pass it to him and you cut, you’re always going to have your eyes open because the ball will end up finding you some how, some way.”

    TRENDS:

    * Favorite is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings.
    * Under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Chicago.
    * Thunder are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games.
    * Bulls are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games overall.

The Bobcats are two years removed from owning the worst record in a season in NBA history, as Charlotte is one win away from reaching the .500 mark on St. Patrick’s Day. Right now, the Bobcats are the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference, as they look for their fourth straight victory on Monday. Charlotte is riding an eight-game winning streak at Time Warner Cable Arena, while covering seven times in this stretch, including a 105-93 underdog victory over Minnesota on Friday. The Bobcats will play with no rest after beating the Bucks on Sunday as a road favorite, as Charlotte owns a dreadful 5-14 SU and 6-13 ATS on the second of a back-to-back.

The Hawks had recently dropped six straight games, but Atlanta is getting back on track with a modest three-game winning streak. The latest triumph came in Saturday’s 97-92 home victory over Denver, but the Hawks failed to cover as 5½-point favorites. Atlanta has owned Charlotte over the years, winning 10 consecutive meetings, including both matchups this season. The last time these teams met up at Philips Arena in December, the Hawks rallied late for a 118-116 overtime victory, but the Bobcats took home the money as six-point underdogs.

The Suns wrap up their three-game East Coast swing looking for a perfect trip with a win at the Barclays Center. Phoenix took care of Toronto in a Sunday afternoon shootout, 121-113 to cash as four-point underdogs, two days after knocking off Boston in a low-scoring affair. The last time the Suns faced the Nets back in November, Brooklyn pulled out a 100-98 overtime win as one-point favorites, the only road victory for the Nets in their first eight highway contests.

The Nets have won nine of 13 games since the All-Star break, but got outscored 29-15 in the final quarter of Saturday’s 101-94 defeat at Washington. Since the start of February, Brooklyn has won eight straight contests at the Barclays Center, while covering the last seven at home. Jason Kidd’s team hasn’t suffered back-to-back ATS losses in over six weeks, posting a 7-0 ATS record off an ATS defeat the last seven in this situation.

The Thunder played without Russell Westbrook in Sunday’s 109-86 home setback to Dallas in a game that the Mavericks controlled from start to finish. Westbrook is expected back in the lineup on Monday night with a trip to Chicago, as OKC owns a 4-1 SU/ATS record the last five times playing on the second of a back-to-back, while hitting the court with no rest for the first time since February 1. The Thunder is just 2-4 SU/ATS the last six away contests, which includes losses to the Lakers, Magic, and Wizards.

The Bulls finish off a six-game homestand after holding off the Kings on Saturday, 94-87 as eight-point favorites. Chicago has endured several tough opponents at the United Center of late, losing to Memphis and San Antonio, while knocking off Miami and Houston. Since mid-December, the Bulls have put together a 13-2 ATS record off an ATS loss, while not suffered consecutive home ATS defeats in three months. The last time the Bulls took on the Thunder in Oklahoma City, Chicago managed a cover as 13 ½-point underdogs in a 107-95 setback in December.

The Clippers put their 11-game winning streak on the line after blowing out the Cavaliers at home last night. Los Angeles owns a 3-5 SU/ATS record in its last eight opportunities on the second of a back-to-back, while playing with no rest for just the second time since February. The Clips have won five in a row on the highway, while putting together a 10-3-1 ATS record in their past 14 in the role of a road favorite.

The Nuggets shocked the Clippers in their last matchup at the Pepsi Center in early February, 106-105 as Randy Foye hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cash outright as 1½-point underdogs. Denver returns home after a 2-3 road trip, as the Nuggets pulled off a Sunshine State sweep with victories at Orlando and Miami. Brian Shaw’s team has won each of their last two games at home over the Lakers and Mavericks, as the Nuggets have put together a disappointing 16-16 SU and 12-20 ATS record at the Pepsi Center.
