    Friday's NBA Tips
    By Kevin Rogers
    VegasInsider.com

    Grizzlies at Wolves

    Memphis: 24-20 SU, 21-22-1 ATS
    Minnesota: 23-22 SU, 25-20 ATS

The Grizzlies conclude their three-game road trip at the Target Center, going for their fifth straight win and 10th victory in the last 11 games. Memphis took care of Sacramento as a five-point favorite on Wednesday, 99-89, while cashing its eighth consecutive 'under.' The Grizzlies are playing with revenge on Friday after falling at home to the Wolves in mid-December, 101-93, but Memphis has won four straight visits to Minneapolis.

The Wolves have quietly won five of their past six, including an 88-77 triumph over the beat-up Pelicans on Wednesday as 10½-point favorites. Rick Adelman's club hasn't won home games in succession since the beginning of the season, posting a 2-7 SU and 3-6 ATS record the last nine contests off a home victory. Minnesota hasn't been a great team to back facing a team it has beaten in the prior matchup, losing five of nine opportunities this season.

    Thunder at Nets

Oklahoma City: 37-10 SU, 28-19 ATS
    Brooklyn: 20-23 SU, 21-22 ATS

The Thunder trailed the Heat, 22-4 to start Wednesday's contest, but Oklahoma City stormed back to rout Miami, 112-95 to cash outright as four-point road underdogs. The victory was the ninth in a row for Scott Brooks' squad, while OKC has been a cash cow for bettors by covering eight times in this stretch. However, the Thunder will be ready after losing at the buzzer to the Nets earlier this month, 95-93 as hefty 12-point home favorites.

Brooklyn is sneaking back to the .500 mark following a dreadful start, but the Nets took a step back in Tuesday's 104-103 home setback to the Raptors, snapping a five-game winning streak. Jason Kidd's club has compiled a terrific 9-3 ATS record in January, including a 4-1 ATS mark in the underdog role. Since an embarrassing effort on Christmas Day against the Bulls, the Nets have won seven of their past eight games at the Barclays Center.

    Kings at Mavericks

    Sacramento: 15-30 SU, 19-24-2 ATS
    Dallas: 26-21 SU, 26-21 ATS

The Kings have struggled of late with DeMarcus Cousins out of the lineup, losing five straight since the center suffered a sprained ankle at Houston on January 22. Rudy Gay returned to the Sacramento lineup on Wednesday after sitting out four games with an Achilles injury, as the Kings fell short as home underdogs against the streaking Grizzlies, 99-89. Now, the Kings head to their house of horrors, the American Airlines Center, where Sacramento has lost 18 consecutive times dating back to 2004. Sacramento has played alright on the highway recently, covering four of its past six road games, including outright victories at New Orleans and Minnesota.

The Mavericks have lost three of their last four games, including Wednesday's shootout defeat to the Rockets, 117-115 as five-point home favorites. Dallas has dropped consecutive home games just once this season, while allowing at least 100 points in four of the last five contests played at the American Airlines Center. Playing with revenge is a theme on Friday night's card, as Dallas tries to avenge a 112-97 setback at Sacramento back in December, snapping a five-game winning streak over the Kings dating back to 2012.

    Raptors at Nuggets

    Toronto: 24-21 SU, 27-18 ATS
    Denver: 22-22 SU, 21-23 ATS

The Raptors embark on a five-game road trip against Western Conference opponents, starting in Denver on Friday. Toronto is coming off consecutive victories over Brooklyn and Orlando, while playing without leading scorer DeMar DeRozan, who suffered a sprained ankle in last Saturday's loss to the Clippers. DeRozan is expected to return to the lineup for a Toronto squad that owns a sterling 9-1 ATS record the last 10 games as a road underdog.

The Nuggets stubbed their toe in Wednesday's home setback to the Bobcats, 101-98, as Ty Lawson sat out the loss with a shoulder injury. The point guard is questionable for Friday's action, as Denver's defense has been burned of late by allowing at least 110 points in six of the last eight games (3-5 SU, 4-4 ATS). Denver ripped up Toronto in its last meeting in early December, a 112-98 triumph, as the Nuggets outscored the Raptors by 20 points in the final three quarters.

              January Showers

After opening the season 12-18 SU and 11-19 ATS in all games thru December 31st this season, the Chicago Bulls welcomed the New Year in style, going 11-4 SU and 9-5-1 ATS in games during January.

With the blue collar Bulls ranking in the Top 5 in the league in team defense and rebound margin, look for them to improve on an already stellar 6-3 SU mark in games with same season loss revenge in their forward movement.

              Stat of The Week

Illinois is 18-0 SU at home in games versus Iowa in which the Illini own a winning record.

                        College Basketball Look Ahead Spots
                        By Carlos Salazar

LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) - When college basketball programs have a big game against a top ten team, an elite conference squad or a chief rival coming up next, they often overlook the team they play before that game.

                        Get Carlos Salazar’s Expert Picks

I call this a "look-ahead" game because let's face it, most of these college basketball players that are 18-22 years old, have a clue about who they are playing next. A basketball coach will tell the media, it's all about "one game a time", but in betting circles, the "look-ahead" theory is a pretty successful trend if you take the time to pay attention.

This does happen and one of the games I gave you last week was a perfect example. California had been playing lights out in the Pac-12 and has a big game with Arizona coming up on Saturday, February 1. They also came off a game against UCLA (76-64 loss), so you could say that there was a bit of a letdown and look-ahead game. On Wednesday, they lost at home to Arizona State, 89-78. I'll give you three instances of teams that play against inferior opponents, with a much more important game on the schedule afterwards. Will they overlook that current opponent because they have their minds on the next game?

Here are the top three possibilities of a look-ahead game for this weekend:

Indiana State (16-5 SU, 9-10 ATS, 7-2 Missouri Valley Conference) is having a great year in the Missouri Valley Conference, but they are still in second place, well behind Wichita State. They take on the Shockers on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Before that showdown takes place on Saturday, they face Northern Iowa on Saturday at home. Northern Iowa is 5-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference and just 11-10 overall, but this is a game they could overlook with Wichita State coming up at home.

Stanford (13-7 SU, 11-6-1 ATS, 4-4 Pac-12) is coming off a very tough home loss at home against Stanford on Wednesday night. Now they have to face Arizona State (5-3 Pac-12) at home and they have a big game coming up. Not to say Arizona State isn't important, but on Wednesday, they take on their biggest rival in California on the road. That game outweighs all others for the Cardinal who may have trouble covering on Saturday in kind of a look-ahead and letdown game.

                        Oregon (14-5 SU, 9-7-2 ATS, 2-5 Pac-12)
faced UCLA at home on Thursday and then they take on USC at home on Saturday. USC is just 1-6 and it's understandable why they may be looking ahead to a certain number one team they have to face next Thursday, Feb. 6 when they take on undefeated Arizona on the road.
