    Wednesday's NBA Tips
    By Kevin Rogers
    VegasInsider.com

    Heat at Wizards

    Miami: 27-10 SU, 16-21 ATS
    Washington: 17-19 SU, 20-16 ATS

The Heat heads back to the court after visiting President Obama on Tuesday to honor the team's championship from last season. Miami is winless on its current six-game road swing after falling at New York and Brooklyn, losing both games as a favorite of five points or more. Erik Spoelstra's club has covered just two of the last seven games away from South Florida, while losing two of the past three visits to the Verizon Center.

The Wizards beat the Bulls from start to finish in Monday's 102-88 road triumph as 2½-point underdogs. Washington has performed well on the highway with wins in seven of its last nine away contests, but playing at home has been a different story. Randy Wittman's team is just 1-7 SU and 2-6 ATS the previous eight contests at the Verizon Center, including four outright losses in the underdog role.

    Raptors at Celtics

    Toronto: 19-17 SU, 22-14 ATS
    Boston: 13-26 SU, 19-19-1 ATS

These two division rivals are going in completely opposite directions now, as Toronto is the lone Atlantic Division squad sitting above the .500 mark. The Raptors have won 10 of its past 13 games, while incredibly covering 12 times in this stretch, including 10 straight. Toronto has compiled a 3-1 SU/ATS record in the road favorite role this season, including victories over division foes New York and Philadelphia on the highway. The Raptors last met the Celtics on opening night in a 93-87 home triumph, but Boston covered as eight-point underdogs.

The Celtics have hit the skids since late December, losing nine straight games and 12 of the past 13 overall. Brad Stevens' club has allowed at least 104 points in five of the last six games, but all six losses in this stretch came to Western Conference teams that can all be considered playoff squads. Incredibly, this is just the third time this season the Celtics are listed in the role of a home underdog against an Eastern Conference foe, losing the first two times to the Pacers and Pistons.

    Nuggets at Warriors

    Denver: 19-18 SU, 17-20 ATS
Golden State: 25-14 SU, 18-19-2 ATS

The Warriors knocked the Nuggets out of the playoffs last season in six games, while winning at Pepsi Center in a low-scoring affair in late December, 89-81. Golden State has covered seven straight meetings with Denver, including four consecutive victories at Oracle Arena. The Warriors have been off since last Friday's narrow 99-97 triumph over the Celtics following a 6-1 road trip, but Golden State failed to cover as 11½-point favorites.

The Nuggets were chased early in Monday's road defeat to undermanned Utah, 118-103, which snapped a five-game winning streak for Brian Shaw's team. Denver is getting back to its run-and-gun ways, cashing the 'over' in six of the last seven games, while topping the 100-point mark each time during this stretch. The road hasn't been kind to Denver of late, as the Nuggets are 1-4 SU/ATS the past five games away from the Pepsi Center, with all four losses coming by double-digits.

    Mavericks at Clippers

    Dallas: 23-16 SU, 21-18 ATS
Los Angeles: 26-13 SU, 23-16 ATS

The last time these teams met up in Dallas, Chris Paul separated his right shoulder in a 119-112 comeback victory for the Clippers. Since the All-Star guard has been sidelined, Los Angeles has won and covered three of four games, including three consecutive home victories over the Magic, Celtics, and Lakers. It's not saying much to beat the aforementioned squads, as the last team sitting above the .500 mark the Clippers knocked off at home was the Nuggets on December 21, although L.A. is 9-1 the last 10 games at Staples Center.

The Mavericks have played extremely well on the highway lately, winning five of their past six games away from the American Airlines Center. Dallas is currently riding a three-game hot streak, but two of those victories came against beat-up New Orleans and Orlando. Rick Carlisle's team is playing more of a defensive-minded style lately, cashing the 'under' in eight of the last 10 games, including five straight 'unders' on the highway.

Heat at Wizards: What Bettors Need to Know
      By Covers.com

Miami Heat at Washington Wizards (+5.5, 196)

The Miami Heat haven't lost three straight regular-season games since Jan. 10-13, 2011, a streak they'll try to preserve when they travel to Washington to face the Wizards on Wednesday. The Heat have won 22 straight games against Southeast Division opponents and can tie the NBA record set by Boston in 1961 with a win over Washington. The Wizards have scuffled a bit since the start of the new year but are coming off an impressive 102-88 win at Chicago on Monday.

The Heat have stumbled into their six-game road trip with losses at New York (102-92) and Brooklyn (104-95 in double overtime), and they're a bit short-handed with three starters battling injuries. Forward Shane Battier (quad) and star guard Dwyane Wade (knees) are considered probable against Washington, but guard Mario Chalmers (Achilles) is not expected to play. "We're a no-excuse team, but right now we have three starters that didn't play," Heat star LeBron James told reporters after the loss to the Nets. "Even though we've got a lot of depth, it's hard to make up for three starters being out." Miami has won four straight meetings with Washington, including a 103-93 home victory in the first contest this season.

LINE: The Heat opened as 5-point road faves and are now 5.5. The total is down one point from the opening 197.

ABOUT THE HEAT (27-10): Miami has the second-best record in the Eastern Conference but has been vulnerable away from home with an 11-7 road record — including a 7-6 mark against conference foes. The Heat's brief losing streak has come in spite of James topping 30 points in four consecutive games, three shy of his own franchise record set last February. Miami certainly needs Wade in the lineup not only for his offense, but also to help defend Washington's strong backcourt duo of John Wall and Bradley Beal.

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (17-19): Washington actually has been better on the road (10-10) than at home (7-9) and has dropped its last four games — and seven of its last eight — on its home court. Still, the Wizards are tied for fifth in the weak Eastern Conference, and they have enough talent to stick as a playoff team. Wall is averaging career highs in points (19.6) and assists (8.6), and Beal (17.3 points) and Trevor Ariza (14.4 points, 6.1 rebounds) are having solid campaigns.

      TRENDS:

      * Under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings.
      * Road team is 25-9-1 ATS in the last 35 meetings.
      * Heat are 1-7 ATS in their last eight vs. Eastern Conference.
      * Wizards are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games.

      BUZZER BEATERS:

      1. James has scored in double figures in 531 consecutive games, the fourth-longest streak in NBA history.

      2. Wizards F Trevor Booker needs two rebounds to reach 1,000 in his career, and Battier's next rebound will be No. 4,000 of his career.

      3. Miami has won 49 of its last 51 games when hitting 10 or more 3-pointers, but the two losses came this season.
