    On Today's Scorecard
    Chalk
If it's been a while since you held a piece of it or watched someone else use some in action, a quick reminder that this soft, porous, sedimentary carbonate rock is popularly used in classrooms, by small children, or outside of coffee shops to lure in customers with promises of cold brew and freshly baked goods.

They come in a variety of colors and one of the reasons they are very popular is probably due to the ease with which their markings can be erased, with nothing more than water.

Unlike permanent forms of ink, they are almost exclusively used in a non-threatening manner.

Except, of course, when one bets "chalk" (or favorites in gambling terms) and begins to lose an inordinate amount of times. Then, because of the "juice" involved when playing favorites, the cost of the losses magnifies rapidly, leaving one wondering why they succumbed to the lure of betting chalk in the first place.

Remember two out of three things can happen when you play chalk - or bet a favorite – and two of them are bad.

    The Name Game
After experiencing many recent changes at the QB, including the loss of Spencer Rattler to South Carolina, Oklahoma scored another great name quarterback when they landed General Booty, a JUCO from Tyler, Texas.

Booty will be a sophomore, after a sensational JUCO year at Tyler where he threw for 3,115 yards and 25 TDs. His uncle, John David Booty, was a quarterback for USC from 2003 until 2007.

    Stat Of The Week
Patrick Marleau, who holds the NHL record for most games played (1,779), retired at last.

At the time that Marleau set the record last April, he had appeared in at least one game with 37% of players who'd ever played in the NHL (3,009 of 8,100). Think about that.

A truly mind-blowing statistic. Farewell to a legend.
