    On Today's Scorecard
    The Race Is On
It's never too early to start talking about the Heisman Trophy.

There's plenty of preseason betting allure to the award, so now is the time to examine the top Heisman Trophy contenders for 2022. The consensus favorites are Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud and Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, both with odds ranging between 2-to-1 and 4-to-1. They are the rightful favorites for the prestigious award, but that's not to say someone with lesser preseason odds can't swoop in and steal the show. In fact, that's what has happened historically.

There's not much value in betting on either Stroud or Young to win the award. Quarterbacks on contending teams have historically done exceptionally well, and they usually don't start out as the favorites.

Storylines are key and can sway the minds of voters, and there's also such a thing as voter fatigue, hence why there's been just one repeat winner in the award's history (Archie Griffin in 1974 and 1975).

Meet the 100-Year Old 100-Meter Record Holder. The most impressive race at the 2022 Penn Relays didn't belong to Olympic champion Athing Mu or the dominant University of South Carolina sprinters, or even the high-schooler who ran a 4:01 mile.

It was 100-year-old Long Branch resident Lester Wright running the 100-meter dash - while holding his own against 80-somethings.

Not only did Wright finish the race, clocking a spry 26 seconds; he didn't come in last. Competing for Shore Athletic Club, the World War II veteran crossed the line seventh of nine competitors, just a couple of strides from fifth place.

    Red Alert
We're not sure what the Cincinnati Reds' team breakfast was yesterday but the team trainer needs to order up more of the same.

    Cincinnati entered Saturday 3-22, tied for the 2nd-worst 25-game start since 1900 (1988 Orioles 2-23, 2003 Tigers 3-22).

The Reds scored more runs in the 8th inning (7) in Saturday's 9-2 win over the Pirates than they had in any of their first 25 games of the season.

FYI: The Reds are 0-3 in games off a win this season, as well as 0-4 as a favorite this year, dropping the four games by an average loss of more the 4 runs per game. Gulp.
