    On Today's Scorecard
    Colonial Circumbendius
Before you even Google the word, circumbendius means "in a round about way".

And in a round about way the current double-issue of the Playbook Hoops Newsletter – available here – breaks down no less than 13 Division-1 college basketball conference tourneys, starting with the Colonial Athletic Association, which tips today.

All 10 of the Colonial programs have reached the postseason the last nine years, making this a wide-open free-for-all.

At the top of pack rests Towson, a 23-win team who cashed 20 winning tickets this season while winning 13 of their final 15 games to close out the campaign.

Of note – double-digit underdogs coming off an underdog win are 14-2-2 ATS in this event since 1990.

    Uh Oh
From a report filed by Axios Sports, college football attendance declined for the seventh straight year and hit a 40-year low last season, according to figures compiled annually by the NCAA since 1976.

Virtually all sports are facing an attendance crisis, which COVID only exacerbated. It's particularly worrisome for college football, whose culture is defined by the game-day experience (think: tailgates, fight songs, marching bands).

FBS teams averaged just 39,848 fans per game in 2021. That's the fewest since 1981, the year before Ivy League institutions and other smaller schools dropped down to FCS.

Over half the teams in the final AP Top 25 experienced attendance declines, including eight of the top 10. No. 3 Michigan saw a dip, but still led the nation for the 21st time in the last 22 seasons.

From this week's PLAYBOOK Basketball Newsletter: A matchup of two teams battling to stay in the NBA playoff hunt with the San Antonio Spurs currently on the outside looking in the Western Conference chase, while the Charlotte Hornets are in a dead-heat with Atlanta for the 10th and final spot in the Eastern Conference.

With it, San Antonio enters with a revenge chip on its shoulder from a 131-115 loss at home to Charlotte in mid-December. With Spurs head coach Greg Popovich toting a 100-76-4 ATS record in non-division games with same season revenge from a loss of 14-plus points, and the Hornets just 7-27 SU and 12-20-2 ATS in this series, the points become the play tonight.
