8 Unit Play Take #555 Detroit +3.5 over Orlando (7:10pm est):
The betting markets still haven't caught up to just how much this Detroit Pistons has improved. The Pistons started off this season with an ugly 5-28 record overall but since the 1st of January this young team has been a lot better going 6-8 their last 14 games and 9-5 against the spread and keep in mind 2 of these defeats were in the very difficult 2nd game of a back to back spot. Even more impressive is only 3 of those 14 games came against below .500 teams and the Pistons went 3-0 straight-up in those contests.
Orlando comes into this game with an NBA worst 9-40 record overall. Incredibly the Magic have been favored in just one game this season and the spread in that one game was just -1 in that and Orlando ended up losing. In fact even more eye opening is the fact this just the 2nd time in 90 games that they have been favored. The Magic has been awful at home the last 30 games going just 6-24 against the spread in those game. These two teams have faced each other twice this year and the Magic lost both of those games.
Take Detroit plus the points in this one.
This game opened at -1.5, and is now listed -4 and even -4.5. This is troubling.....usually when a Doc's Handicapper gets the worst of the line by up to 3 points, there is usually a big problem. These guys always cheat to get the extra point or half-point all the time. To be in this position with an 8* play (Doc's highest rating) does not bode well.
He might ultimately win, but it looks as if the wise guys think otherwise.
