    Re: NBA Betting Info. 1/31

Preview: Golden State At New York
When: 7:30 PM ET, Sunday, January 31, 2016
Where: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York
The Golden State Warriors look to push their current winning streak to seven when they visit Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks on Sunday night. The Warriors (43-4) continued their historic run by pulling out a surprisingly-tough 108-105 victory at Philadelphia (7-41) on Saturday as Harrison Barnes nailed a last-second 3-pointer.
Golden State can keep pace with the 1966-67 Philadelphia 76ers, whose 44-4 start is the best through 48 games in NBA history, and Klay Thompson hopes to stay hot after scoring 77 points combined the last two games. The Knicks snapped a four-game losing streak with a 102-84 victory over Phoenix on Friday as leading scorer Carmelo Anthony (21.2) returned to the lineup after missing two contests with a sore knee. Anthony is expected to play Sunday after one of his most versatile efforts, posting 19 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and four steals. “If I waited until there’s no soreness, I’d be out all season,” Anthony told reporters. “It felt pretty good for the most part. I still felt it.”
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, CSN Bay Area (Golden State), MSG (New York)
ABOUT THE WARRIORS (43-4): Thompson is 11-for-22 from 3-point range the last two games and NBA scoring leader Stephen Curry (29.7) rebounded from a 4-for-11 shooting performance against Dallas with 23 at Philadelphia. The Warriors rested forward Andre Iguodala on Saturday after he scored 11 total points in the previous two contests. Barnes, averaging a career-best 12.1 points, was 3-for-5 from behind the arc Saturday after going 1-for-7 from long distance his previous three outings.
ABOUT THE KNICKS (23-26): Rookie standout Kristaps Porzingis scored seven points in 24 minutes Friday after missing the previous contest due to an upper-respiratory illness and told reporters his body wasn’t 100 percent yet. Guard Arron Afflalo, who is second on the team at 14.2 points per game just ahead of Porzingis (13.9), is averaging 18 over the last three contests. Center Robin Lopez recorded 13 points against Phoenix and has made 15-of-27 from the field over the past four games.
    BUZZER BEATERS
    1. Golden State C Festus Ezeli (left knee) could play Sunday after missing the last two contests.
    2. New York F Thanasis Antetokounmpo scored two points in his NBA debut on Friday.
    3. The Warriors is 19-6 in the last 25 meetings, including 106-92 triumph in New York last season.
    PREDICTION: Warriors 108, Knicks 98

      Preview: Minnesota At Portland
When: 9:00 PM ET, Sunday, January 31, 2016
Where: Moda Center at the Rose Quarter, Portland, Oregon
The Portland Trail Blazers are taking advantage of a lengthy homestand to jump into the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference. The Trail Blazers will try to improve to 4-1 on the seven-game homestand and earn their fourth straight win when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday.
Portland fell to Atlanta to open the stretch of home games but has since pulled off wins over the Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings and Charlotte Hornets by an average of 17 points to move to 7-2 in the last nine games overall. “That’s five games in a row where we’ve had more than 20 assists,” Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts told reporters while explaining the team’s improvement. “I like the way the ball has been moving and the opportunities we’ve had at the offensive end.” The Timberwolves have dropped three in a row and continued to be plagued by their young team’s struggles to close out games. Minnesota battled Oklahoma City down the wire before falling 126-123 on Wednesday and was within one point at halftime in Utah on Friday before a poor third quarter doomed the team in a 103-90 setback.
TV: 9 p.m. ET, NBATV, FSN North (Minnesota), CSN Northwest (Portland)
ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (14-34): Zach LaVine has been on fire for Minnesota of late and went 9-of-12 from the field on Friday but was still disappointed that the team let up a 14-0 run in the third quarter to let the game slip away. “The third quarter is usually where we mess up,” LaVine told reporters. “That’s what killed us. Sometimes it only takes just two minutes (to cost us a game). We’ve got to get that under control.” LaVine is averaging 25 points on 31-of-44 shooting in the last three contests.
ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (22-26): Portland guard Damian Lillard was playing his first game since being passed over for a spot on the Western Conference All-Star team on Friday and delivered 22 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals. “I’m extremely disappointed with the vote,” Stotts told reporters about the All-Star snub. “I won’t go into specifics, but I thought (Lillard) deserved to be in for a few reasons and I was disappointed with some of the selections. But we gotta move on.” Lillard is averaging 24.3 points and seven assists while guiding a team that lost four starters over the summer.
      BUZZER BEATERS
      1. Timberwolves rookie C Karl-Anthony Towns scored a career-high 32 points on 13-of-17 shooting Friday.
      2. Trail Blazers C Mason Plumlee is averaging 10.8 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists in the last five games.
      3. Portland took the first two meetings this season – both in Minnesota – by an average of 5.5 points.
PREDICTION: Trail Blazers 103, Timberwolves 99

        Preview: Charlotte At L.A. Lakers
When: 9:30 PM ET, Sunday, January 31, 2016
Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California
The Charlotte Hornets have a great chance to end their four-game road trip with a 2-2 mark when they visit the struggling Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. The Hornets got off to a great start on the trip with a thrilling double-overtime win in Sacramento but have been noncompetitive in dropping the last two games.
Charlotte got rocked 102-73 by the Utah Jazz on Wednesday and could not mount a fourth-quarter challenge in a 109-91 loss at Portland on Friday. Injury issues are mounting for the once-promising Hornets, with the backcourt the latest area of the roster to get hit hard. The Lakers, who own the worst record in the Western Conference, have provided a soft landing spot for plenty of clubs while losing nine straight games. Los Angeles is in danger of matching the club record for consecutive losses of 10, set at the end of the 1993-94 campaign.
TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, FSN Southeast (Charlotte), TWC SportsNet (Los Angeles)
ABOUT THE HORNETS (22-25): Charlotte took off earlier in the season with Al Jefferson in the middle and Kemba Walker, Nicolas Batum, Jeremy Lamb and Jeremy Lin providing a potent quartet in the backcourt. Jefferson is down following knee surgery while Lamb (toe) has missed four games and Lin (ankle) sat out Friday and is day-to-day. Batum (toe) has returned after missing seven games this month but is still hobbled and managed three points on 1-of-11 shooting on Friday, leaving an overworked Walker as the lone healthy member of the quartet.
ABOUT THE LAKERS (9-40): Los Angeles is searching for anything to celebrate this season beside the Kobe Bryant retirement tour and got a boost from Julius Randle’s career-high 23 points and 14 rebounds on Friday. “He is just getting better and better,” Lakers coach Byron Scott told reporters of Randle. “He still has some things he has to continue to focus on, but I liked what I saw (Friday).” Randle moved back into the starting lineup over a week ago and is averaging 15.2 points and 11.2 boards in the last five games.
        BUZZER BEATERS
        1. Bryant (rest) sat out on Friday but is expected to play Sunday.
        2. Hornets F Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (shoulder) made his season debut on Friday and scored 13 points in 34 minutes.
        3. Charlotte took the first meeting 108-98 on Dec. 28 behind 38 points from Walker and 11 assists from Batum.
        PREDICTION: Hornets 99, Lakers 91
