    On Today's Scorecard
    Dress Rehearsal
Week Three in the NFL preseason was popularly recognized as "dress rehearsal" week. Most coaches used it to evaluate their starters a week before evaluating players on the cusp during Week Four.

With the preseason shortened to three weeks it appears different coaches are taking different approaches.

What we do know is there are many storylines behind this week's final preseason card, such as key players to watch. A few include –

Trey Sermonof the 49ers: Could Sermon seriously be on the chopping block after being selected in the third round in 2021? He may need to prove his worth...

Damien Williamsof the Falcons: Williams was once a playoff hero for the Kansas City Chiefs, but those days seem long ago. He was thought to be a welcome addition to a young Falcons roster, but all of a sudden he might be on the chopping block.

Denzel Mimsof the Jets: The Mims experience in New York seems to be over. The former second-round pick has given the jets some flashes over the past two seasons but hasn't grown to be more than that. Mims might be playing his last game as a Jet in Week Three of the preseason.

In case you didn't know - Since taking over the Tide in 2007, Nick Saban's record reads like a typo: six national titles, a 183-25 record and 13 consecutive top-three AP preseason rankings.

Per 538 Sports - Alabama is the heaviest preseason favorite of the playoff era to win the national championship by adjusted probability. It's why Saban just signed an extended contract that makes him the highest paid coach in college football history.

With his new extension, Saban's base salary goes up to $305,000 annually, while his talent fee starts at $9.595 million in 2022 and increases to $12.395 million at the end of the 2029 college football season. This means his talent fee escalates an additional $400,000 every single season.

The San Francisco 49ers are 1-5 SU and 1-4-1 ATS in their preseason series against the Texans.

The Niners are also 1-6 SU and 1-5-1 ATS in preseason affairs versus AFC South foes.

With Houston 3-0 SUATS all-time as a preseason dog against teams from the NFC West, this anti-San Francisco treat is on us.
