    Re: Off Season Moves

Mariners acquired RHP Yovani Gallardo and cash from the Orioles in exchange for OF Seth Smith.
The Mariners needed a starter, but it's puzzling as to why they'd be interested in Gallardo, who has been in a backslide for a few years now that culminated in a 5.42 ERA across 23 starts last season. The righty had at least been an innings-eater prior to 2016, but there's no guarantee he'll regain his durability given that he'll soon be 31 and has a lot of mileage on his arm.

Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports that the Mariners have acquired Jarrod Dyson from the Royals in exchange for Nate Karns.
Dyson has been involved in trade rumors for most of the offseason, and the Royals finally found a return that they deemed acceptable. He will probably start in one of the corner outfield spots for Seattle with Leonys Martin already in center and gives the Mariners an excellent defensive outfield with Mitch Haniger added in.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Rays have agreed to terms on a contract with Colby Rasmus.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal had said that a deal was close. Rasmus is coming off a disappointing, injury-shortened 2016 campaign when he batted only .206/.286/.355, but he was good enough in 2015 (.238/.314/.475, 25 homers) to receive a qualifying offer from the Astros.

Mariners acquired LHP Drew Smyly from the Rays for OF Mallex Smith, INF Carlos Vargas, and LHP Ryan Yarbrough.
Smith's stay in Seattle was ultimately a brief one, as Jerry Dipoto only acquired him to use as a chip to secure Smyly. The 27-year-old left-hander is coming off a disappointing 4.88 ERA and 167/49 K/BB ratio over 175 innings and has had major issues with the home run ball over the past two seasons,

Robert Murray of FanRag Sports reports that the A's are nearing a two-year contract agreement with Santiago Casilla.

MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports that the Rangers have reached an agreement with Tyson Ross on a one-year contract.
It's unclear how much the deal is worth, but it figures to be loaded with incentives. Ross had thoracic outlet surgery last October and is a question mark for Opening Day, but it's hard not to like this move by the Rangers on a one-year gamble.

Baseball Prospectus Toronto reports that the Blue Jays have re-signed slugger Jose Bautista, pending a physical.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal has confirmed the report. While specific terms aren't yet known, multiple reports suggest that it's a one-year deal with options which could keep him with Toronto through 2019.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, Mark Trumbo is getting a three-year, $37.5 million deal from the Orioles.
The deal is done and Trumbo is reportedly taking a physical to make it official.

Dodgers acquired 2B Logan Forsythe from the Rays in exchange for RHP Jose De Leon.
The Dodgers finally have their second baseman after months of trade talks with the Twins involving Brian Dozier that ultimately led to nothing. They refused to give up more than De Leon for Dozier but have landed Forsythe for De Leon straight up in a deal that makes sense for both sides

Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM reports that Brandon Moss has agreed to a contract with the Royals.
Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports says it's a two-year, $12 million deal with an option for 2019. It's a good fit for both sides, as Moss can take regular at-bats against righties between the designated hitter spot and right field. He'll also be an option for first base in 2018 if Eric Hosmer bolts as a free agent.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Blue Jays and reliever Joe Smith have agreed to a one-year deal.
Terms aren't yet available. Smith is the second veteran reliever to sign with the Blue Jays in recent days, joining lefty J.P. Howell.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the Nationals have engaged in trade talks for White Sox closer David Robertson.
Robertson has been available all winter and the Nationals are in desperate need of a closer after losing Mark Melancon to the Giants in free agency. Right now the biggest stumbling block is money as Robertson is due $25 million over the next two seasons. Obviously the Nationals would prefer that the White Sox cover at least some portion of his remaining salary. Robertson has a decent track record but is coming off a relatively disappointing year and might not be a major upgrade over Washington's current ninth-inning options including Shawn Kelley and Blake Treinen.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Braves and Reds "have completed their agreement" in the trade of Brandon Phillips to Atlanta.
Olney says that only "administrative boxes" need to be checked before the trade is announced. MLB.com's Mark Sheldon hears that the Reds will receive two players from the Braves in the deal and that Cincinnati is eating most of the $14 million Phillips is owed in 2017.
