Yankees to release A-Rod after Friday's game
The Yankees announced in a press conference Sunday that Alex Rodriguez will be released after Friday's game against the Rays at Yankee Stadium.
He'll be officially released as a player after Friday's game but will remain with the Yankees as a special advisor and instructor. Rodriguez, who will make roughly $26.5 million from now until the end of 2017 in his new role, didn't totally rule out playing for another team next season, but that seems very unlikely. A-Rod turned back the clock to put together a terrific 2015 campaign, but it's been a huge struggle for him this season with a .204/.252/.356 batting line and nine homers over 234 plate appearances.
