    Preview: Twins at Angels

    Current Conditions - Anaheim

    CLOUDY 68 °F
    Wind: SSW 8
    5-Day Forecast
GAME: Minnesota Twins (20-43) at Los Angeles Angels (27-37)
    DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 10:05 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California
    LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Minnesota Twins own the worst record in the American League, but they have found one team upon which they can beat. Minnesota rolled to a 9-4 victory over host Los Angeles in the opener of a three-game set and looks to defeat the Angels for the fifth consecutive time this season on Tuesday.

The Twins slugged three homers and set a season high for runs scored on Monday as the beating continued a recent trend for the Angels, who dropped into last place in the AL West. Los Angeles has lost seven of its last eight games - being outscored 55-27 during the stretch - and stands a season-worst 10 games below .500. Angels star Mike Trout served as the designated hitter after suffering a bruised right thumb when hit by a pitch on Sunday and is hoping to return to center field on Tuesday. Minnesota's Joe Mauer went 2-for-5 with two runs scored on Monday and has reached base in 25 consecutive games.

TV: 10:05 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Ervin Santana (1-6, 4.77 ERA) vs. Angels RH Jhoulys Chacin (2-4, 4.83)

Santana spent his first eight major-league seasons with the Angels and will be facing his former team for only the third time. He is 1-1 with a 2.87 ERA and 0.77 WHIP in two career outings versus Los Angeles and has struggled against Yunel Escobar (7-for-19, four RBIs). Santana has lost four consecutive overall starts and has a dreadful 7.43 ERA during the stretch.

Chacin experienced his worst performance in six starts with the Angels last time out as he gave up five runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings against the New York Yankees. He is making his first home start since May 30, when he struck out 10 and yielded one run and four hits against the Detroit Tigers in his third career complete game. Chacin lost his lone career start against the Twins as he gave up two runs and seven hits in five innings while with Colorado in 2010.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Angels 2B Johnny Giavotella homered while matching his career high of four hits in the opener.

    2. Minnesota CF Byron Buxton is 2-for-24 over his last seven contests - with one of the hits coming Monday, when he belted his first homer of the season.

    3. Los Angeles 1B Albert Pujols is 3-for-28 over the last seven games and has gone deep just once in his last 15 contests.

    PREDICTION: Twins 7, Angels 5

Ichiro Suzuki is one hit away from matching the all-time professional hits record held by Pete Rose as the Miami Marlins visit the San Diego Padres on Tuesday for the middle contest of their three-game series. Suzuki recorded three hits in Monday's 13-4 trouncing of the Padres to raise his overall total to 4,255, counting 1,278 during time playing in Japan.

Suzuki, who is just 23 hits away from 3,000 for his major-league career, also walked twice and scored three runs in the Marlins' romp. The 42-year-old no longer is an everyday player, but he's been red-hot with the bat by going 16-for-37 with nine runs scored over the past 13 games. San Diego right fielder Matt Kemp homered in the opener and is 7-for-12 while stringing together three consecutive multi-hit performances. The last-place Padres have lost four of their last five games and have fallen 13 games behind National League West leader San Francisco.

            Preview: Brewers at Giants

            Current Conditions - San Francisco

            Wind: ESE 3
            5-Day Forecast
GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (30-34) at San Francisco Giants (39-26)
            DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 14 - 10:15 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California
            LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Milwaukee pitcher Matt Garza may have preferred an easier matchup for his season debut, but the veteran right-hander appears set for his matchup Tuesday against the host San Francisco Giants and ace Madison Bumgarner. Garza, who has been sidelined all season due to a right lat strain, joins a Milwaukee team that opened a nine-game, 10-day road trip with Monday’s 11-5 loss to the Giants.

Bumgarner takes the mound riding a six-game winning streak for San Francisco, which is 22-8 since May 11 and leads the National League West by a season-high six games. Left fielder Angel Pagan (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the disabled list in time for Wednesday’s series finale, and the Giants have also reportedly explored the possibility of trading for Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun, who is batting .313 with 11 home runs and 36 RBI. Braun would be an immediate upgrade for a Giants lineup that will be without right fielder Hunter Pence (hamstring) until early August, but he figures to have multiple suitors. “It's impossible to completely avoid it, but I just don't waste much energy thinking about it because obviously most of it’s out of my control,” Braun told reporters. “I focus on the things I can control like trying to stay healthy, trying to stay on the field and continue to be productive.”

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), CSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Matt Garza (2015: 6-14, 5.63 ERA) vs. Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (7-2, 1.88)

Garza is filling a spot in the rotation previously held by Wily Peralta, who was sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs after going 4-7 with a 6.08 ERA in 13 starts. The 32-year-old Garza, a native of California’s Central Valley, went 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA in three minor-league rehab starts for Class-A Wisconsin. Garza allowed five runs over five innings in a loss to San Francisco on May 26, 2015 and owns a 1-2 mark and 4.58 ERA in three career starts against the Giants.

Bumgarner is 6-0 with a 1.14 ERA, one complete game, 70 strikeouts and 17 walks over his last nine starts, and San Francisco is 10-3 when the 2014 World Series MVP takes the mound. The 26-year-old allowed one run on four hits while walking one and striking out five last Wednesday against Boston. Braun is 8-for-26 with two home runs against Bumgarner, who is 6-2 with a 2.25 ERA in nine career starts against Milwaukee, including three straight victories.

            WALK-OFFS

            1. The Giants have won seven of their last eight games against the Brewers at AT&T Park.

            2. Milwaukee closer Jeremy Jeffress has not allowed a run or a walk in the 10 games he’s pitched on the road this season.

            3. San Francisco OF Gregor Blanco singled in the seventh inning Monday to end an 0-for-27 skid.

            PREDICTION: Giants 8, Brewers 2
