    The Los Angeles Angels attempt to finish with a perfect record on their five-game road trip when they visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. After going winless on a six-game homestand, the Angels swept a three-game set in Seattle over the weekend before beginning a four-game, home-and-home series against the Dodgers with Monday's 7-6 triumph.

    Mike Trout, who has hit safely in 12 of his 14 games this month, and Albert Pujols combined to go 5-for-8 with five RBIs — with the former improving to 8-for-20 over his last five contests. The Dodgers fell to 4-4 on their nine-game homestand with their second straight loss following a three-game winning streak. Trayce Thompson continued his strong month, belting a pair of homers and driving in three runs to give him five blasts and 12 RBIs over his last eight contests. Corey Seager is riding a seven-game hitting streak that has featured three straight and five overall multi-hit performances.

    PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Jered Weaver (3-2, 6.10 ERA) vs. Dodgers LH Clayton Kershaw (5-1, 1.74)

    Weaver was pounded for the second time in three starts Thursday, when he retired the first 11 batters he faced before surrendering eight runs and nine hits — three homers — over four-plus innings in a loss to St. Louis. The 33-year-old Californian also was tagged for seven runs and 11 hits over five frames in a loss at Milwaukee on May 2 before limiting Tampa Bay to one earned run in six innings of a no-decision five days afterward. Weaver has pitched well against the Dodgers in his career, going 6-2 with a 2.52 ERA in 10 outings.

    Kershaw has been the polar opposite of Weaver this month, allowing a total of two runs over 25 innings in three starts — including his second three-hit shutout in that span Thursday against the New York Mets. The 28-year-old Texan has reached double digits in strikeouts in each of his last five outings and has yielded more than two earned runs just once in his eight turns this season. Kershaw is 4-2 with a 2.91 ERA in eight career starts against the Angels.

    WALK-OFFS

        The San Francisco Giants are beginning to dominate on the mound and have their ace going Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series against the Padres in San Diego. Madison Bumgarner gets the nod for the Giants, who hope to continue an impressive 10-game run in which their rotation posted a 1.90 ERA.

        Matt Cain delivered the latest gem with seven innings of one-run ball in a 2-1 victory at Arizona on Sunday, which extended San Francisco's season-high winning streak to five games. "An incredible job by our pitching staff," Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reporters after Sunday's win, one he helped to end with a successful challenge that resulted in a game-ending double play. San Francisco's 15-8 surge includes a three-game sweep of the Padres at home late last month, a set that began with a Bumgarner win. Despite a laundry list of injuries that includes first baseman Wil Myers - a late scratch Sunday because of a tight forearm - San Diego has recovered to win a respectable 10 of 17 games, although it dropped the finale of a four-game set in Milwaukee on Sunday.

        PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (4-2, 2.72 ERA) vs. Padres RH Colin Rea (3-1, 4.24)

        Bumgarner averages what would be a career-high 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings and fanned nine in 6 2/3 frames against the Padres last month. That outing is one of five straight in which he has allowed two earned runs or fewer, including another 6 2/3 innings on one-run ball in a no-decision against Toronto his last time out. The 26-year-old is 9-5 with a 3.26 ERA in his career against San Diego but 3-0, 1.69 over the last five meetings.

        Rea was reached for four runs in five innings at the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday but is 2-0 with a 3.32 ERA over his last three starts. He boasts the same numbers in four games (three starts) at home this season, including eight dominant frames in a win over the New York Mets in his last Petco Park appearance May 5. The Indiana State product has never faced the Giants.
