      'Runs at a premium'

The game between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees at Rogers Center Tuesday night has all the markings of a low-scoring affair. Last season, the two teams played nine games in Toronto, with the 'Under' being the right play seven times, along with two 'Over. For that reasons and the fact Aaron Sanchez and Masahiro Tanaka are on respective mounds makes the 'Under' call an easy play tonight.

Sanchez has shown that he can keep the score low tossing in front of the friendy crowd at Rogers Center. In his last six home starts the 'Under' has paid out five times (1-5 O/U). Another positive for 'Under' gambler's has been when Sanchez is off a quality start, as he did in his opener vs Rays. In that case, the 'Under' has been the right decision four straight times (0-4 O/U). Additionally, the Yankees have also been good 'Under' choices faing Jays with Tanaka on the mound. In the previous seven the 'Under' has hit six times (1-6 O/U).

Finally, when the Blue Jays have started a new series during a homestand, the 'Under' has cashed 17 times with 8 'Over'. The Yankees have also made their mark when starting out on a road trip. In the last five to began a road journey the 'Under' has cashed four times (1-4 O/U), as well as nine of the last thirteen opening as series on the road (4-9 O/U).

Factor all those numbers together and the arrow is clearly pointing toward taking the 'Under'. As always best of luck, but above all enjoy the game.

        Preview: Pirates at Tigers
GAME: Pittsburgh Pirates (5-2) at Detroit Tigers (3-2)
        DATE/TIME: Tuesday, April 12 – 1:10 PM EST
        WHERE: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
        LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A
After some lackluster offensive efforts over the weekend, the Pittsburgh Pirates greeted the season’s second week with a hit parade. The Pirates seek an encore to a 17-hit outburst when they continue a two-game interleague series at the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.
Francisco Cervelli and Gregory Polanco had three hits apiece and four others registerred two as Pittsburgh followed up back-to-back one-run showings in Cincinnati with a 7-4 victory in Monday’s series opener. “When you are getting that kind of production from the bottom of your order, any major league team is going to do well,” manager Clint Hurdle told reporters after the bottom five hitters went a combined 10-for-17. J.D. Martinez and Nick Castellanos each slugged their first home run of the season for the Tigers, who saw superstar Miguel Cabrera go hitless for the second straight game. Detroit also lost catcher James McCann to a sprained ankle after he collided with Pirates first baseman John Jaso, and a trip to the disabled list is possible.
TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, ROOT (Pittsburgh), FSN Detroit
PITCHING MATCHUP: Pirates RH Juan Nicasio (1-0, 1.50 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Anibal Sanchez (1-0, 3.60)
Following an outstanding spring in which he struck out 24 batters in 15 scoreless innings, Nicasio hit the ground running in his team debut last week, limiting St. Louis to a run and two hits in six frames. The 29-year-old has 72 punchouts in 64 1/3 innings over his last two seasons after producing 63 in 93 2/3 frames in 2014 with Colorado. Nicasio has never faced Detroit but has seen plenty of left fielder Justin Upton, who is 5-for-11 with three doubles and four walks against him.
Sanchez got the win at Miami on Wednesday after giving up two runs in five innings. He walked three and surrendered four hits but none left the yard, a notable stat given his career-high 29 home runs allowed a season ago. The 33-year-old is 22-14 with a 3.69 ERA in 49 games (48 starts) at Comerica Park and owns a 3.67 mark in seven career matchups with Pittsburgh.
        WALK-OFFS
        1. Jaso has recorded two hits in three straight games and has hit safely in six of seven contests so far.
        2. Cervelli is 6-for-7 over a two-game span and has at least one RBI in four of his last five affairs.
        3. McCann threw out two would-be base stealers Monday and the Tigers have gunned down five of six on the season.
        PREDICTION: Pirates 5, Tigers 4

          Preview: Diamondbacks at Dodgers
GAME: Arizona Diamondbacks (2-5) at Los Angeles Dodgers (4-3)
          DATE/TIME: Tuesday, April 12 – 4:10 PM EST
WHERE: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California
          LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A
The Los Angeles Dodgers look to settle things down after a strange first seven games of the season when they take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in their home opener on Tuesday afternoon. The Dodgers outscored San Diego 25-0 to sweep the first three contests of 2016 before dropping three of four at San Francisco while giving up 26 runs and coughing up three leads.
“It’s been a roller coaster this past week,” Los Angeles pitcher Scott Kazmir told reporters. “But I think I speak for all of us in this clubhouse when I say we’re a confident group and we know what we’re capable of doing. We just have to get it done.” The Dodgers were 13-6 against Arizona last season and send rookie Kenta Maeda to the mound Tuesday against the struggling Diamondbacks, who have dropped five of seven to start the campaign. Arizona has scored enough runs (33) with Paul Goldschmidt knocking in seven, but allowed 47 – second-most in the majors through Sunday. “I think a lot of our mistakes we’re making are just out of trying too hard,” Arizona manager Chip Hale told reporters. “That will get better. Guys will start to feel more comfortable and not so stressed out.”
TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN Arizona, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (0-1, 5.14 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Kenta Maeda (1-0, 0.00)
There were some things to like about Corbin’s first start of the season as he did not walk a batter and was economical with 88 pitches over seven innings. Three home runs did the 26-year-old New York native in during the 4-3 loss to Colorado in which he permitted eight hits and four runs. Justin Turner is 5-for-10 versus Corbin, who is 3-4 with a 4.09 ERA in nine games (eight starts) against the Dodgers.
Maeda was outstanding in his major league debut Wednesday, blanking San Diego over six innings on five hits and no walks while striking out four and belting a home run. The 28-year-old from Osaka is not considered a strikeout pitcher, but showed his pinpoint control and retired 12 batters on ground balls. Maeda was signed to an eight-year deal in January that could be worth more than $100 million if all incentives are met.
          WALK-OFFS
          1. Los Angeles C Yasmani Grandal (forearm) and 2B Howie Kendrick (calf) could be activated for the home opener.
          2. Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura went 0-for-5 in the last two games after starting the season by posting at least two hits in each of the first five contests.
          3. Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez is 12-for-28 with six RBIs in the early going, but batted only .227 against Arizona last season.
          PREDICTION: Dodgers 5, Diamondbacks 3

            Preview: Braves at Nationals
GAME: Atlanta Braves (0-6) at Washington Nationals (4-1)
            DATE/TIME: Tuesday, April 12 – 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia
            LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A
Two of the hottest hitters in the National League look to continue their good work at the plate Tuesday, when the Washington Nationals host the Atlanta Braves in the second contest of their four-game series. Washington’s Daniel Murphy is enjoying a fantastic start with his new team, as the former New York Mets second baseman went 2-for-4 with a home run in Monday’s 6-4 victory to raise his average to .471, while Atlanta’s Nick Markakis doubled twice and drove in two runs.
Markakis’ work was not enough to lift the Braves to their first victory of the season, as they fell to 0-6 while losing highly regarded prospect Mallex Smith to a laceration on his forehead after he was caught stealing in the fourth inning of his major-league debut. Atlanta is expected to promote veteran Jhoulys Chacin from Triple-A Gwinnett to make his debut for the team on Tuesday. Washington, which has won four of its first five games, improved to 3-0 against Atlanta already this season and 17-5 versus its National League East rival since the start of last year. Wilson Ramos snapped an 0-for-8 slump with four hits on Monday and is 8-for-13 against the Braves in 2016.
TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Southeast (Atlanta), MASN2 (Washington)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Jhoulys Chacin (2015: 2-1, 3.38 ERA) vs. Nationals LH Gio Gonzalez (2015: 11-8, 3.79)
Chacin won 14 games for Colorado in 2013 but has made just 16 appearances in the majors since. Atlanta hopes the 28-year-old Venezuelan can build off a strong spring training during which he went 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in six starts before striking out seven over 7 2/3 scoreless innings in Gwinnett’s season opener on Thursday. Chacin gave up two runs or fewer in four of his five outings with Arizona last season.
Gonzalez makes his season debut after reaching double digits in victories for the sixth straight year in 2015. The 30-year-old native of Florida lost three starts in a row in August before finishing strong, posting a 2.70 ERA over his final seven turns – including an outing against Atlanta on Sept. 5 in which he recorded 10 strikeouts over six scoreless innings. Gonzalez won both of his starts versus Atlanta last season to improve to 4-8 with a 4.54 ERA in 13 career outings against the Braves.
            WALK-OFFS
            1. Nationals CF Michael Taylor, who is playing regularly with Ben Revere (right oblique) on the disabled list, started the season 0-for-12 but has recorded three hits in his last two games.
            2. Washington has won 11 games in a row and 15 of its last 16 against Atlanta at Nationals Park.
            3. Smith legged out an infield single in his second at-bat Monday for his first career hit.
            PREDICTION: Nationals 4, Braves 2

              Preview: Padres at Phillies
GAME: San Diego Padres (3-4) at Philadelphia Phillies (2-5)
              DATE/TIME: Tuesday, April 12 – 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Don’t look now, but the San Diego Padres are starting to heat up. After failing to score a run in a season-opening sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Padres have rallied nicely with three wins in their last four games – a run they hope will continue Tuesday against the host Philadelphia Phillies.
The opener of the four-game series featured two video replays that went in San Diego’s favor, as well as a bizarre infield fly-rule double play and a go-ahead squeeze by Alexi Amarista. Wil Myers homered for the Padres, while Maikel Franco recorded three hits and Cesar Hernandez scored twice for the Phillies. Philadelphia had won its previous two games after opening the season with four straight defeats. In this one, San Diego’s Robbie Erlin will oppose Philadelphia’s Charlie Morton in a matchup of pitchers who have fared well against their opponent, albeit in limited work.
TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN San Diego, TCN (Philadelphia)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres LH Robbie Erlin (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Charlie Morton (0-1, 14.73)
Erlin logged 3 2/3 innings of relief against Colorado on Friday and allowed only one hit without a walk. He has a 2.19 ERA in two starts against the Phillies, totaling 11 strikeouts against one walk in those outings. Ryan Howard and Franco are each 0-for-3 with two strikeouts versus Erlin.
Morton gave up six runs in 3 2/3 innings against Cincinnati in his season debut. Jon Jay (.409 average in 22 at-bats) has the most experience against him of any active Padres player. Still, Morton is 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA in seven lifetime starts versus San Diego.
              WALK-OFFS
              1. After reaching base via a triple on Monday, Hernandez is batting .409 on the young season. He also drew his first walk of the year in the series opener.
              2. Philadelphia LF Cedric Hunter could be in line for a day off Tuesday after going 0-for-3 Monday to fall to 2-for-21 on the season.
              3. The Phillies have scored three runs or fewer in five of their seven games.
              PREDICTION: Phillies 7, Padres 5

                Preview: Yankees at Blue Jays
GAME: New York Yankees (3-2) at Toronto Blue Jays (3-4)
                DATE/TIME: Tuesday, April 12 – 7:07 PM EST

The Toronto Blue Jays ended a 22-year postseason drought in 2015 and one of the biggest reasons why was their success against the New York Yankees. The Blue Jays look to continue the mastery of their American League East rivals when they host the Yankees on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game series.
Toronto, which halted a four-game skid with a 3-0 win over Boston on Sunday, went 13-6 against New York last season and won nine of 13 matchups over the past two months en route to the AL East title. “They’re basically the same team,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters. “Obviously they’re very talented and they swing the bats extremely well. To me, you’ve got to stay away from giving that team extra outs, because if you do, they’re going to kill you.” New York split the first two meetings of its road trip at Detroit before Sunday’s series finale was postponed due to inclement weather. That could be a break for the Yankees, allowing them to send ace Masahiro Tanaka to the mound on Tuesday.
TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, YES (New York), Sportsnet (Toronto)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Masahiro Tanaka (0-0, 3.18 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Aaron Sanchez (0-0, 1.29)
Tanaka showed no ill effects with his surgically repaired right elbow in his season debut, allowing two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings versus Houston. The 27-year-old Japanese standout has enjoyed ample success against Toronto’s heavy-hitting lineup, posting a 5-2 record and 2.23 average in seven career starts, including seven scoreless innings of four-hit ball on Sept. 13 and a complete game at Rogers Centre in mid-August. Edwin Encarnacion has been a nemesis for Tanaka, going 7-for-14.
Sanchez turned in a sparkling effort in his season debut at Tampa Bay, limiting the Rays to one run on five hits while striking out a career-high eight over seven innings, only to be saddled with a no-decision when the bullpen blew the lead. The 23-year-old Californian has spent the bulk of his brief career in the bullpen, making only 11 starts in 65 appearances over his first two seasons. Sanchez has never started against the Yankees, but is 1-2 with a 3.48 ERA and .194 batting average against in 10 outings.
                WALK-OFFS
                1. Yankees 2B Starlin Castro, an offseason acquisition from the Cubs, is 9-for-20, including his 1,000th career hit.
                2. Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson already has four homers and nine RBIs while hitting safely in all seven.
                3. Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury has hit safely in four straight games.

GAME: Baltimore Orioles (6-0) at Boston Red Sox (3-3)
                  DATE/TIME: Tuesday, April 12 – 7:10 PM EST

The Boston Red Sox spent a lot of money and sent away some top prospects to fix the top of their rotation and the back of their bullpen, but it didn’t show in the home opener. The Red Sox will try to bounce back and hand the Baltimore Orioles their first loss when they host the second of a three-game series on Tuesday.
New ace David Price squandered a three-run lead and ended up allowing five in five innings before new closer Craig Kimbrel surrendered a tiebreaking three-run home run in the top of ninth. The Orioles spent their money and prospects in the offseason locking up sluggers, and Mark Trumbo and Chris Davis both delivered in Monday’s 9-7 triumph. Baltimore’s pitching staff surrendered a total of 10 runs in the first five games to carry those five wins, but the offense turned it around when Trumbo’s three-run blast off Price gave the team a lead in the third inning and Davis’ three-run blast off Kimbrel in the ninth gave it the win. The Orioles set a franchise record with six straight wins to open the season and have taken 11 in a row dating back to last season.
TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MASN (Baltimore), NESN (Boston)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Mike Wright (2015: 3-5, 6.04 ERA) vs. Red Sox RH Clay Buchholz (0-0, 11.25 ERA)
Wright earned himself a rotation spot in the spring but had his season debut pushed back due to a rainout over the weekend. The 26-year-old made 12 appearances – nine starts – in his rookie campaign last season and yielded 52 hits in 44 2/3 innings. Wright made one start against the Red Sox on Sep. 16 and was rocked for six runs on as many hits in three innings to suffer the loss.
Buchholz struggled to stay in the strike zone and needed 94 pitches to make it through four-plus innings at Cleveland last week. The 31-year-old Texan was ripped for five runs and six hits while walking three but was bailed out by the offense and did not factor in the decision. Buchholz is 10-5 with a 3.65 ERA in 19 career games – 18 starts – against Baltimore.
                  WALK-OFFS
                  1. Orioles CF Adam Jones (ribs) did not start the last four games but entered Monday as a defensive replacement and could start soon.
                  2. Boston RHP Koji Uehara has yet to allow a hit in four appearances.
                  3. Baltimore 3B Manny Machado hit safely in each of the first six games and is 6-for-7 in the last two contests.

                    DATE/TIME: Tuesday, April 12 – 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida

The Tampa Bay Rays look to get their highly regarded starting pitching staff going when they host the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday for the first of a three-game set. Tampa Bay’s starters have not recorded a victory or completed seven innings and own a bloated 5.67 ERA in the first six contests as Matt Moore attempts to stop the trend in the series opener.
“As a staff, we’re not happy with what we’re doing,” Rays pitcher Jake Odorizzi told reporters after taking the loss in a 5-3 setback at Baltimore on Sunday. “And that just speaks to the standard that we’ve set for ourselves.” Moore will have to be sharp against the Indians, who have scored 19 runs in four games while starting 2-2 and send ace Corey Kluber to the mound. Cleveland will be pleased to play the next three indoors at Tropicana Field — where it won all four games last season — after getting two games rained out last week. Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis went 14-for-29 with a homer in seven outings against Tampa Bay in 2015.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Corey Kluber (0-1, 6.75 ERA) vs. Rays LH Matt Moore (0-0, 5.40)
Kluber surrendered nine hits and four runs over 5 1/3 innings in a 6-2 loss to Boston on opening day and tries to make amends in his first start on the road. The 2014 Cy Young winner struggled away from home a year ago, going 3-8 with a 4.15 ERA during a disappointing 9-16 campaign. Logan Morrison is 4-for-10 and Evan Longoria has homered against Kluber, who is 2-1 with a 2.56 ERA in five starts versus the Rays.
Moore made one very bad pitch in his season debut last week, allowing a three-run homer to Josh Donaldson before escaping without a loss when the Rays rallied for a victory. The 26-year-old gave up the three runs on five hits and struck out six in five innings against Toronto last Tuesday. Marlon Byrd has homered in two at-bats against Moore, who is 2-1 with a 4.64 ERA in five career outings versus the Indians.
                    WALK-OFFS
                    1. Tampa Bay OF-DH Corey Dickerson went 3-for-6 in two games at Baltimore and boasts three homers in his first six games with the team.
                    2. Cleveland 1B-DH Carlos Santana, normally a slow starter, has a home run and five RBIs in the first four games of 2016.
                    3. Rays newcomers SS Brad Miller, C Hank Conger and Morrison are a combined 4-for-45 in the first nine days of the season.
                    PREDICTION: Indians 3, Rays 2

                      Preview: Marlins at Mets
GAME: Miami Marlins (2-3) at New York Mets (2-4)
                      DATE/TIME: Tuesday, April 12 – 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York

Two of the top young pitchers in the game will square off when the New York Mets host the Miami Marlins on Tuesday in the middle contest of their three-game set. Miami delivered an early knockout punch in the series opener, pushing across seven runs in the second inning en route to handing the Mets their third straight loss with a 10-3 drubbing.
New York could use a quality start from towering right-hander Noah Syndergaard after lefty Steven Matz lasted only 1 2/3 innings in Monday’s mauling, taxing an already short-handed pitching staff. The 23-year-old Syndergaard was as reliable as could be in his rookie season, working at least six innings in all 12 regular-season starts at home. Jose Fernandez, who is a month older than Syndergaard and already has come back from Tommy John surgery, made his major-league debut at Citi Field in April 2013 and provided a glimpse of what was to come with five innings of one-run, eight-strikeout ball.
TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), SNY (New York)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Jose Fernandez (0-1, 7.94 ERA) vs. Mets RH Noah Syndergaard (1-0, 0.00)
Fernandez saw his major league-record run come to a halt in his season debut as his 17-game winning streak at home – the longest such stretch to start a career in history – was snapped by Detroit. It was hardly a shoddy outing for the 23-year-old Cuban, who despite allowing five runs and five hits also flashed overpowering stuff with 13 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Fernandez never has lost to New York in four starts, logging a 1-0 record and 1.64 ERA.
Syndergaard turned in a dominant performance in his season debut at Kansas City, limiting the reigning World Series champion to three hits while striking out nine over six scoreless innings. It was a positive early omen for the native of Texas, who struggled on the road last season with a 2-5 mark and 4.23 ERA. Conversely, Syndergaard was masterful in the friendly confines of Citi Field, posting a 7-2 record, 2.46 ERA and .196 batting average against.
                      WALK-OFFS
                      1. Marlins RF Giancarlo Stanton clubbed his 22nd home run in 76 games versus New York on Monday.
                      2. Mets RHP Jacob deGrom, already scratched from the series finale (lat), left the team to be with his wife for the birth of their child.
                      3. Miami LF Christian Yelich, 3B Martin Prado and Stanton each have hit safely in all five games.
                      PREDICTION: Mets 3, Marlins 1

GAME: Kansas City Royals (4-2) at Houston Astros (3-4)

The Kansas City Royals attempt to slow down rookie Tyler White and even their series against the host Houston Astros at one win apiece when the teams continue their four-game set on Tuesday. The 25-year-old White, who was named the first American League Player of the Week of 2016, posted his fourth multi-hit performance of the season Monday to improve to 12-for-22 (.545) over his first seven major-league games.
Houston hopes to continue to receive solid production from the top five hitters in its lineup after the quintet – led by Jose Altuve (3-for-4, three runs) and Carlos Correa (3-for-5, two RBIs) – combined for 12 of the team’s season-high 14 hits, five runs and six RBIs in the series-opening 8-2 triumph. Kansas City also reached double digits in hits (11) but managed to score only two runs – both on Kendrys Morales’ eighth-inning homer. Alex Gordon recorded two hits Monday after notching three in his first five games but struck out twice to raise his team-leading total to 11 in 21 at-bats. Royals right-hander Kris Medlen hopes to bounce back from a rough spring during which he posted a 5.94 ERA as he opposes Mike Fiers, who suffered double-digit losses last year for the second time in his career.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals RH Kris Medlen (2015: 6-2, 4.01 ERA) vs. Astros RH Mike Fiers (0-0, 9.00)
Kansas City’s fifth starter, Medlen will be making his season debut after appearing in 15 games (eight starts) last year following the second Tommy John elbow surgery of his career. The 30-year-old Californian made two relief appearances during the Royals’ run to the championship, allowing two runs and three hits over six innings. Medlen has yielded three runs and 10 hits over 8 2/3 frames in three career games – one start – against Houston.
Fiers escaped with a no-decision against the Yankees in New York on Thursday after surrendering five runs and nine hits – two homers – in five innings. The 30-year-old native of Florida went 2-1 with his first career shutout and a 3.32 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) last season after being acquired from Milwaukee on July 30 in the deal involving Carlos Gomez. Fiers lost his only career start against Kansas City on June 17, allowing six runs and eight hits in five innings.
                        WALK-OFFS
                        1. Altuve is off to a fast start in defending his stolen base title, swiping a league-high six bags in seven games after recording a major league-best 38 in 154 contests last year.
                        2. Kansas City RF Reymond Fuentes has gone 3-for-13 over four games in his first season in the major leagues since 2013, when he batted .152 (5-for-33) with one RBI in 23 contests with San Diego.
                        3. Houston has homered in each of its seven games, which is a team record to start a season.
                        PREDICTION: Astros 6, Royals 3

GAME: San Francisco Giants (5-2) at Colorado Rockies (3-3)
                          DATE/TIME: Tuesday, April 12 – 8:40 PM EST

It’s quite a Story, this Colorado rookie shortstop Trevor, and he’ll try to keep the historic start to his career going – while masking the club’s pitching woes – when the Rockies host the San Francisco Giants in a three-game series beginning Tuesday. Story set major league records for most home runs in the first six games of a career and in a team’s first six contests of a season when he belted his seventh in Colorado’s 6-3 victory over San Diego on Sunday.
“… Whenever (Story) gets a pitch around the strike zone, he just hits it out of the ballpark,” teammate Carlos Gonzalez told reporters. “Hopefully he can continue to do that for the entire year, and we’re going to see a special season.” It could prove to be all for naught, though, if the Rockies (3-3) do not start getting more batters out as they own a 7.92 ERA and a .342 batting average – both by far the worst in the majors. San Francisco is off to a 5-2 start after taking three of four from the Los Angeles Dodgers, including a 9-6 victory Sunday after Los Angeles scored five runs in the first inning, as Buster Posey (9-for-23, five RBIs) continued his torrid start with his second home run. Colorado’s Tyler Chatwood impressed in his season opener after not pitching since April 29, 2014, because of Tommy John surgery and opposes Jeff Samardzija, who wasn’t sharp in his San Francisco debut after signing a five-year, $90 million contract during the offseason.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Jeff Samardzija (0-0, 5.06 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Tyler Chatwood (1-0, 1.42)
Samardzija received a no-decision after allowing three runs, eight hits and three walks while striking out six in 5 1/3 innings of San Francisco’s 4-3 loss in Milwaukee on Wednesday. ”He battled well,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reporters about the 31-year-old Indiana native. ”He was off a little bit, but he found a way to keep us in the game. He left the game, it was tied. Great job on his part. Battling with men on base. Pitching well in traffic.” Samardzija is 2-0 with a 2.01 ERA in seven games (three starts) versus Colorado and won his only start at Coors Field (one run in 7 1/3 innings) while pitching for the Chicago Cubs in 2013.
Chatwood permitted two runs (one earned) and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings to earn the win in Colorado’s 4-3 victory in Arizona on Wednesday. ”… He went out there and did an outstanding job,” Rockies manager Walt Weiss told reporters about the 26-year-old Californian. “That’s the Chatwood that we all remember. Goes out there and competes like a bulldog, great stuff, a really big day for him and for us.” Chatwood, who is 21-22 with a 4.29 ERA lifetime but a stellar 10-4, 3.92 at Coors Field, is 3-2, 3.46 in eight games (seven starts) against San Francisco.
                          WALK-OFFS
                          1. Story, who is 6 feet 1, 180 pounds, broke the previous record of six home runs through a team’s first six games held by San Francisco’s Willie Mays (1964), Philadelphia’s Mike Schmidt (1976) and Colorado’s Larry Walker (1997).
                          2. Posey is hitting .396 with nine home runs, 34 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .458 in 46 games at Coors Field.
                          3. SS Brandon Crawford and 3B Matt Duffy also have two home runs as the Giants have hit 14 – their most in the first seven games of a season since belting 16 in 2003.
                          PREDICTION: Giants 9, Rockies 5

                            DATE/TIME: Tuesday, April 12 – 10:05 PM EST

Albert Pujols likely will return to his regular role as Los Angeles’ designated hitter Tuesday as the Angels continue their three-game series against the host Oakland Athletics, but the 36-year-old hasn’t put his first baseman’s glove away for good. Pujols made his first start of the season at first base Monday and recorded a rare stolen base as the Angels won 4-1 to snap Oakland’s three-game winning streak.
C.J. Cron figures to serve as the Angels’ primary first baseman, but manager Mike Scioscia said he’ll give Pujols occasional starts as long as the slugger’s surgically repaired right foot holds up. “We certainly don’t want to push it; we’re going to be conservative,” Scioscia told reporters. “But he knows his body. We’ll listen to how he feels.” Staying healthy is also an ongoing issue for Oakland center fielder Coco Crisp, who could rest Tuesday after starting three straight games. The 36-year-old native of Los Angeles was limited to 44 games last season because of a neck injury but has worked his way into a platoon with Billy Burns in center while hitting .261 with a home run and two stolen bases in the team’s first seven games.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels LH Hector Santiago (0-0, 3.00 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Kendall Graveman (0-1, 3.38)
Santiago drew praise from Pujols after yielding three runs (two earned) and striking out seven in six innings against Texas on Thursday. “He was awesome,” Pujols told reporters. “His velocity was up, he was pumping 93, 94 consistently, pounding the strike zone and using his cutter and changeup.” Jed Lowrie is hitless in 18 at-bats against the 28-year-old, who is 3-3 with a 3.14 ERA in 11 career games (nine starts) against Oakland.
Graveman turned in a solid outing in his season debut Thursday while holding the White Sox to two runs on three hits over 5 1/3 innings. The Alabama native is riding a six-game losing streak dating to last season with a 5.52 ERA over the nine-start stretch. Pujols is 4-for-6 with a home run against the 25-year-old, who is 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA in two career starts against the Angels, including eight innings of one-run ball June 13, 2015.
                            WALK-OFFS
                            1. The Angels have won nine of the last 12 meetings against Oakland.
                            2. Oakland LHP Felix Doubront is scheduled to undergo Tommy John elbow surgery Tuesday.
                            3. The Angels purchased the contract of LHP Greg Mahle from Triple-A Salt Lake.

The Seattle Mariners are winless in four home games this season and attempt to halt their doldrums when they host the Texas Rangers on Tuesday. Texas second baseman Rougned Odor drove in three runs to help the Rangers post a 7-3 victory in Monday’s opener of the three-game series.
The Mariners are in last place in the American League West with a 2-5 record and have lost four consecutive games. Seattle has tallied just seven runs during the skid and second baseman Robinson Cano is 2-for-16 in the four contests after opening the season with four homers in three games. Texas racked up 14 hits in the series opener and is tied with the Oakland Athletics for first place in the division with a 4-4 mark. Rangers designated hitter Prince Fielder had two RBIs on Monday and has nine in eight games.

Holland received a no-decision in his season debut against the Angels on Thursday when he allowed three runs and four hits in five innings. The 29-year-old has fared well against Seattle during his career, posting a 10-4 record and 3.59 ERA in 21 career appearances (17 starts). Holland has experienced issues retiring Cano, who is batting .405 with two homers and nine RBIs in 37 at-bats.
Miley struck out seven in six innings when he faced the Rangers on Wednesday in his Seattle debut and received a no-decision. The 29-year-old allowed five runs and seven hits and served up a three-run homer to Fielder. Miley is 1-2 with a 4.74 ERA in four career starts against Texas and has limited shortstop Elvis Andrus to one hit in 10 at-bats.
                              WALK-OFFS
                              1. Rangers CF Delino DeShields (shoulder), who is just 3-for-21 this season, sat out Monday’s contest
                              2. Seattle DH Nelson Cruz homered — his second of the season — and had three RBIs in the series opener.
                              3. Texas C Brett Nicholas went 2-for-4 and scored twice on Monday in his major league debut.
