NHL notebook: Kings call up Gravel
    By The Sports Xchange

The Los Angeles Kings recalled defenseman Kevin Gravel from the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League, the team announced Sunday.
The 24-year-old Gravel appeared in four games during his first NHL call-up in February, including his first NHL game on Feb. 11. He is still looking for his first NHL point.

--The Calgary Flames assigned forward Emile Poirier to the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.
Poirier, 21, has played in two games for the Flames, with two penalty minutes.

--Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford worked out on the ice for the second consecutive day before Sunday's game. Crawford has missed the past nine games because of an upper-body injury, but the team hopes to have him available for the playoffs.

--Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller missed Sunday's game because of a lower-body injury that he sustained Friday against St. Louis.

--Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin, still out indefinitely, missed a 12th consecutive game with an upper-body injury.

--Penguins rookie goalie Matt Murray started for the second day in a row because G Marc-Andre Fleury is out indefinitely with his second concussion of the season.

--Philadelphia Flyers goalie Steve Mason played for a second successive day and the eighth time in 15 days because of backup goalie Michal Neuvirth's lower-body injury.

Preview: Lightning (45-28) at Islanders (42-26)

    Date: April 04, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos delivered a harsh message about his team's effort prior to its last game. Ahead of the next one, he had words of encouragement for his team's push without him.

After learning Stamkos will miss one to three months with a blood clot in his right arm, the Lightning look to continue pressing for the Atlantic Division title when they open a season-ending road trip Monday night against the New York Islanders, who are scrapping for a playoff spot.

Tampa Bay (45-28-5) picked up a huge 3-1 win over New Jersey on Saturday to go 4-2-0 on its homestand and remain within two points of division-leading Florida.

The optimism surrounding the successful stretch was quickly forgotten, however, with the news that Stamkos will be out for the foreseeable future with a type of vascular thoracic syndrome near his right collarbone. He's scheduled to have a procedure Monday.

General manager Steve Yzerman said a full recovery is expected and the team doesn't expect the injury to be career threating.

It will be a couple weeks before it's clear if Stamkos' recovery time will be closer to one month or three. He voiced his disappointment Saturday, just days after telling his teammates to "look in the mirror" following a 3-0 loss to Montreal on Thursday.

"Obviously, this situation is extremely disappointing because I wanted to help my team clinch a playoff spot and prepare for the start of the postseason," Stamkos told the league's official website. "During my recovery, I will do all I can to help my teammates, and I hope to rejoin them soon in the Stanley Cup playoffs."

Stamkos leads Tampa Bay with 36 goals. Nikita Kucherov scored and had two assists against the Devils, but the Lightning totaled eight goals in the final four games of the homestand after scoring 13 in the first two.

They are also missing top-pair defenseman Anton Stralman, who's out indefinitely with a fractured left fibula.

Still, the victory over the Devils clinched the first tiebreaker for Tampa Bay over the Panthers with 42 regulation and overtime wins.

Seven Tampa Bay players scored in a 7-4 victory over the Islanders on March 25, snapping a three-game skid in this series. The Lightning have lost seven of the last eight road matchups.

New York (42-26-9) followed that ugly loss to the Lightning with three consecutive wins before falling 5-0 to Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Islanders are in a tight race for a wild-card spot and also trail the Rangers by two points for the Metropolitan's third automatic berth.

Captain John Tavares delivered his own strong message after Saturday's loss, which was lowlighted by two goals on power plays and three off turnovers.

'Considering where everything stands right now, that kind of effort is unacceptable," he said. "It's extremely disappointing.'

The Islanders, 24-10-4 at Barclays Center, are also banged up with defenseman Travis Hamonic, center Mikhail Grabovski and goaltender Jaroslav Halak out.

Thomas Greiss has handled most of the work in net in Halak's absence. He's allowed four goals on 51 shots his last two starts after surrendering six on 41 to the Lightning.

Tampa Bay's Ben Bishop allowed seven goals over this season's first two matchups.

Preview: Rangers (43-26) at Blue Jackets (31-39)

      Date: April 04, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

The sound of boos cascading down from the Madison Square Garden crowd doesn't exactly breed confidence for the New York Rangers as they look to clinch a postseason spot in the season's final week.

Maybe a shift to the road Monday night will help them finally secure their sixth straight playoff berth when they go for a sweep of the last-place Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Rangers (43-26-9) are 0 for 2 in attempts to clinch with a win against teams with essentially no chance to make the postseason, falling 4-3 on the road to Carolina on Thursday and by the same score at home to Buffalo on Saturday.

The loss to the young Sabres was New York's third straight, and it was accompanied by the MSG faithful voicing their displeasure. Two nights after blowing a third-period lead against the Hurricanes, the Rangers surrendered three early goals and Henrik Lundqvist was pulled less than 21 minutes in.

It leaves them with a two-point lead for the Metropolitan Division's third and final automatic playoff berth, with a tight three-team race for the Eastern Conference's two wild-card spots the next alternative.

New York has one final shot to clinch against a team out of the postseason hunt in its last road game before closing the season at home against Tampa Bay on Tuesday, the Islanders on Thursday and Detroit on Saturday. The Rangers are 18-17-5 away from home, losing three of their last four.

'We know down the stretch teams are trying to finish on a high note,' captain Ryan McDonagh said. 'It doesn't matter where you are.'

Buffalo's win snapped a nine-game losing streak against the Rangers, and Columbus (31-39-8) is looking to end a six-game skid in this series.

New York - mired in its first regulation losing streak since going three straight without a point Dec. 17-20 - has won the first three meetings this season and taken four straight over Columbus at home, with points in the last five.

'Again, as a goalie but also as a team, we need short memories,' said Lundqvist, who gave up three goals on nine shots before being replaced by Antti Raanta.

Lundqvist earned wins on back-to-back days over Columbus in early October, allowing four goals on 72 shots. He's won his last five starts against the Blue Jackets with a 1.78 goals-against average.

Columbus' Sergei Bobrovsky was in net for both October matchups, allowing four goals in each. While Lundqvist is 8-3-1 all-time versus Columbus, Bobrovsky is 3-8-2 against the Rangers to give him his highest loss total against any opponent.

The last-place Blue Jackets, 17-16-6 at Nationwide Arena, snapped a four-game skid with Saturday's 5-1 road win over Carolina.

Brandon Saad recorded his first career hat trick while Boone Jenner and Oliver Bjorkstrand also scored. Alexander Wennberg and David Savard had two assists apiece.

'It seems more or less the past few nights, it's been happening against us,' Saad said. 'So to get one of these nights and get confidence and get a couple guys scoring different goals and making big plays, it was a lot of fun to be a part of.'

Preview: Panthers (44-25) at Maple Leafs (28-39)

        Date: April 04, 2016 7:30 PM EDT

Jaromir Jagr hasn't been clean-shaven in a while. It's likely no coincidence that the same can be said about Jonathan Huberdeau, his Florida Panthers' linemate.

Put simply, if Jagr does something, the Panthers notice.

And that will especially ring true starting next week, when the long-struggling Panthers return to the playoffs for just the second time in the past 15 seasons.

Florida's postseason berth was clinched Sunday when Boston lost to Chicago, and the Panthers now find themselves on the brink of securing home-ice advantage for at least the opening round.

They can clinch that by earning at least one point against the eliminated Toronto Maple Leafs in Monday night's opener to a three-game Canadian trip.

The Panthers (44-25-9) have played 38 postseason games, total, as a franchise. They've won 16, and it's the first trip to the playoffs for young Panthers stars such as Huberdeau, Aaron Ekblad, Aleksander Barkov, Vincent Trocheck and Nick Bjugstad.

"We're going to rely on him," Huberdeau said, nodding toward where Jagr was standing after Florida rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat Montreal 4-3 on Saturday night. '"Not too much, but he's going to be the guy to look up to and he's going to be the guy to help us - especially those of us who don't know what it's like.

"It's his 18th time in the playoffs. My first time. He's not scared of the playoffs."

What will Jagr tell the first-timers?

"I'm not going to make a big deal about it," Jagr said. "Just play the same way. Why stress yourself if you don't have to? No matter what you say, you have to go through it. You have to feel it."

Jagr has played in 202 playoff games, has been part of 110 wins and is a two-time Stanley Cup winner - both of those hoists of hockey's chalice coming before the Panthers' franchise even played its first game.

There's other Cup winners on Florida's roster, including injured captain Willie Mitchell (whose career is in jeopardy because of concussions), defenseman Brian Campbell, wingers Shawn Thornton and Jiri Hudler and injured forward Dave Bolland.

But if one skater will set the tone in the second season for Florida, it's Jagr.

"That's no different than what he's doing now," Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said. "He does a good job with our guys, he's our leader and we've got a lot of good veteran leadership. I don't expect him to change one thing. We've got a lot of guys who have won Stanley Cups, a lot of veteran guys and a lot of young guys who haven't tasted it yet."

How they'll fare in the playoffs is anyone's guess, but these are not the same old Panthers.

Florida has not won a playoff series since 1996, making the Stanley Cup final that year but getting knocked out in the first round in 1997, 2000 and 2012.

It took general manager Dale Tallon - who is credited for building the core of the Chicago team that has won three of the past six Stanley Cups - time to get a real plan in place for Florida, but his moves have clearly worked.

The Panthers set club records this season with a 12-game winning streak, four All-Star representatives, five 50-point scorers and 44 victories. With four games left, they're on pace to have the best team goals-against average in franchise history as well.

Florida has outscored opponents 19-9 while winning four of five on the road, including a 4-1 victory in Toronto on March 17 - its third in a row at Air Canada Centre. The Panthers lost 5-2 to the visiting Leafs (28-39-11) on Tuesday, their only defeat in the past five overall contests.

Florida has a two-point lead atop the Atlantic Division over Tampa Bay, which visits the New York Islanders on Monday.

The win over Florida was Toronto's lone one in its last five games.

Nazem Kadri, who registered his third career hat trick last week in Florida, will reportedly have a hearing with the league after cross-checking Detroit's Luke Glendening in the head/shoulder in the second period of Saturday's 3-2 loss.

"We were battling in the corner and got into a bit of a wrestling match," Kadri said. "I think my cross-check kind of rode up on his shoulder a little bit. That's a penalty for sure."

The playoffs start April 13, though Florida likely cannot be at home that night because a concert was scheduled for its home arena that date.

Most years, that wouldn't be a problem.

Now, it's a nice problem for the Panthers to have.

Preview: Coyotes (35-36) at Blues (47-23)

          Date: April 04, 2016 8:00 PM EDT

After an uncharacteristic performance to start this weekend, the St. Louis Blues returned to their stingy ways to close it out but might have lost one of their goaltenders.

With Jake Allen's status unknown for upcoming games, the Blues will try to bolster their Central Division title hopes Monday night by adding to their recent mastery of the Arizona Coyotes.

St. Louis (47-23-9) has outscored opponents 25-8 during a 6-1-0 run and gave up six of those goals in a loss to Boston on Friday. The Blues bounced back with a 5-1 victory in Colorado on Sunday and were 4:15 shy of their fifth shutout since March 18.

Anders Nilsson was in net for the final two periods after Allen's undisclosed injury and helped St. Louis move within two points of Western Conference-leading Dallas, which is idle Monday.

"We'll know a little more on Jake (on Monday)," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "Hopefully, it's day to day."

The Blues are four points ahead of Chicago for home-ice advantage in the opening round of the playoffs but don't hold the non-shootout wins tiebreaker. They also trail in that category against the Stars.

"We know what's in front of us. We know what's behind us," defenseman Alex Pietrangelo said. "But the biggest thing for us is worrying about ourselves. If we play like we can, we're going to put ourselves in a good position. We want to make sure we're going full speed going to the playoffs."

Nilsson was the Blues' backup because Brian Elliott was back in St. Louis, reportedly resting up for this game. Elliott was pulled after two periods against Boston but did not receive the loss, putting him at 9-0-0 with a 1.92 goals-against average in his last 11 appearances.

Elliott is 4-0-0 with a 1.29 GAA and three shutouts since returning from a lower-body injury March 19. He yielded four goals on 22 shots in Arizona on Feb. 20, but St. Louis exited with a 6-4 victory, its seventh in a row over the Coyotes.

The Blues are also 10-0-1 in their last 11 matchups and 5-0-1 in their past six at home, winning the past three.

The Coyotes (35-36-7) are averaging a league-worst 1.7 goals in their last 16 road games and lost 4-1 to Dallas in their latest Thursday. They have won four of six overall, however, after a 3-0 victory against Presidents' Trophy-winning Washington on Saturday.

Mike Smith registered his second shutout since returning from a lower-body injury March 12 and improved to 5-2-0 with a 1.29 GAA in his last seven starts.

"It was important for me personally, coming off the injury and not playing a lot, to come back and show myself and the team and the organization that I can still play when I'm healthy," Smith told the team's official website. "It was our last home game and we played really well against the best team in the league."

Smith has a 3.90 GAA in his six consecutive losses to St. Louis.

Blues forward Alexander Steen has four goals and seven assists in a seven-game point streak against the Coyotes. He has also scored a goal in each of his past three matchups.

Blues captain David Backes' 13 goals and 18 assists in his last 27 games in the series are his most versus any opponent since the beginning of the 2008-09 season.

Preview: Kings (46-27) at Canucks (29-36)

            Date: April 04, 2016 10:00 PM EDT

With the Pacific Division title and home-ice advantage hanging in the balance, the Los Angeles Kings have picked the wrong time to go into a late-season swoon.

A lack of consistent scoring has been partly to blame, though that hasn't been much of a problem over the Kings' past few meetings with the Vancouver Canucks.

Looking to take a big step toward its first division crown in 25 years, Los Angeles will try to avoid its fifth straight road loss and sixth in eight games overall Monday night.

The Kings owned a six-point lead in the Pacific on March 19 following a 6-0-1 stretch that began with a 5-1 home win over the Canucks. However, they've since fallen back into a neck-and-neck race with Anaheim and San Jose as a result of their current slump.

Los Angeles, which hasn't won a division title since 1990-91, was all but eliminated from the chase for the Western Conference's top seed on Saturday when it couldn't hold to a third-period lead in a 3-2 home loss to Central Division-best Dallas. The club has scored two goals or fewer in six of its last eight games after totaling 24 over its previous six.

"I hope it's not a lesson that we have to learn this late in the season, but hopefully it's a better late than never type of thing," defenseman Rob Scuderi said. "All of these games now, and in a couple of weeks, they're going to be one-goal games, it's going to be tight."

The Kings hope to take advantage of a soft final stretch. They'll face Vancouver and Calgary on the road before returning to Staples Center for a showdown with the Ducks on Thursday, then close versus another eliminated club in Winnipeg.

Jeff Carter has totaled five goals and eight points over his last five games. He had two goals while Anze Kopitar added a goal and two assists in last month's win over Vancouver.

Carter did not play Dec. 28 when Tyler Toffoli finished with a hat trick and Kopitar had a career high-tying four assists in a 5-0 win at Vancouver (29-36-13). Kopitar has totaled two goals and six assists while helping the Kings (46-27-5) take three of the four meetings.

The Canucks ranked 23rd in the league with 2.86 goals allowed per game after getting outscored 28-8 over an 0-8-1 slide. However, they played better defensively while helping the Kings with a 4-2 win at San Jose on Thursday and a 3-2 victory at Anaheim on Friday.

'I think we just have to stick together as a team and play our hearts out the last couple games," said goalie Jacob Markstrom, who is expected to give way to Ryan Miller. "We have nothing to lose.'

Bo Horvat has provided a spark with a goal in each of the past two games, while Henrik Sedin has recorded an assist in both contests and three in this series with the Kings.

Vancouver, though, has totaled six goals over a five-game home skid. It looks to reverse that trend against Los Angeles, which has lost a season-high four straight road games.

Jonathan Quick has been dominant against the Canucks, going 9-3-1 with a 1.07 goals-against average to go along with a .959 save percentage over his last 13 meetings.

              Grand Salami - April

The Grand Salami in pro hockey is decided by adding up all the goals scored in every game scheduled for that particular day. You can wager on 'over' or 'under' the Grand Salami total. The total is set by adding up all listed 'over/under' odds for each game on that particular day.

Note: The Grand Salami will have no action if any game is suspended or cancelled before the regulation time of three twenty minute periods. Also, regardless of the number of goals scored during the shoot out portion of the overtime, the final scored recorded for the game will give the winning team on more goal than its opponent based on the score at the end of regulation time.

*The majority of sportsbooks do not put out a total on the Grand Salami when there is only one game on the card. For tracking purposes, we will continue to show the 'over/under' for goals and combined goals scored on days with just one game.

Preview: Tampa Bay at NY Islanders
When: 7:00 PM ET, Monday, April 4, 2016
Where: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York
The Tampa Bay Lightning have two huge holes in their lineup to fill as they begin a season-ending four-game road trip Monday against the New York Islanders. With defenseman Anton Stralman (broken fibula) already out indefinitely, the Lightning announced Saturday that captain and leading scorer Steven Stamkos will miss 1-to-3 months due to a blood clot near his right collarbone.
Stamkos was diagnosed with a form of Vascular Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, the same problem that forced Lightning backup goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to miss the start of the season, and will undergo a procedure Monday before going on blood thinners. “Part of what makes it really difficult to win championships is staying healthy,” Tampa Bay general manager Steve Yzerman told reporters after a 3-1 win over New Jersey on Saturday that put his team on the edge of clinching a playoff spot. “You try to give yourself a chance every year to hang around and get in there, and hopefully at some point, luck is on your side. For us, it’s an opportunity for other players.” The Islanders won’t feel too sorry for the Lightning as they have lost defenseman Travis Hamonic (lower body) and netminder Jaroslav Halak (lower body) for at least the rest of the regular season. New York holds the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference and still has a shot at third place in the Metropolitan Division but needs to bounce back from a 5-0 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, NHL Network, TVA, FSN Florida (Tampa Bay), MSG Plus (New York)
ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (45-28-5): Tampa Bay will need more from its top scorers to make up for the absence of Stamkos, who leads the team with 36 goals, and Nikita Kucherov should draw more attention after netting five tallies in six games to reach 30 for the first time in his career. Defenseman Victor Hedman continues to shine with nine points in eight games and Yzerman said a recall of Jonathan Drouin – the former No. 3 overall pick who was suspended for two months earlier this season – will be considered. Ondrej Palat also has been providing more offense with 17 points in his last 15 games.
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (42-26-9): Marek Zidlicky returned after missing 13 games with an upper-body injury to take Hamonic’s spot on the blue line, but New York gave up 33 shots and a pair of power-play goals Saturday. “It’s up to us how bad we want it and where we want to get to,” captain John Tavares told reporters. “I believe in this group, so it’s just disappointing the way we played (Saturday).” Tavares is one tally shy of recording his third 30-goal campaign in seven seasons and leads the club with 61 points – three more than Kyle Okposo, who has registered the second-highest total of his career.
                  OVERTIME
                  1. New York C Frans Nielsen has gone 14 games without a tally, still sitting one short of his second career 20-goal campaign.
                  2. Tampa Bay G Ben Bishop has limited opponents to two or fewer goals in 40 of his 58 starts this season but has allowed seven in two games against the Islanders this season.
                  3. New York G Thomas Greiss, who was rested Saturday, has won his last two outings since giving up six goals in a 7-4 loss at Tampa Bay on March 25.
                  PREDICTION: Lightning 3, Islanders 2

                    Preview: NY Rangers at Columbus
When: 7:00 PM ET, Monday, April 4, 2016
                    Where: Nationwide Arena, Columbus, Ohio
The New York Rangers have whiffed on two chances to clinch a postseason berth but will try to punch their ticket to the playoffs against yet another opponent they have dominated when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night. New York attempts to avert a season-high fourth straight loss as it seeks a seventh consecutive victory over Columbus.
The Rangers’ slide, coupled with a torrid stretch by Pittsburgh, has left them trailing the second-place Penguins by five points and sitting two points ahead of the New York Islanders in the Metropolitan Division. While the struggling Blue Jackets appear to be a prime matchup, New York is coming off successive losses to Buffalo and Carolina – two teams that have each dropped nine in a row to the Rangers. “We know down the stretch teams are trying to finish on a high note,” New York captain Ryan McDonagh told reporters. “It doesn’t matter where you are.” Columbus halted a four-game losing streak with a 5-1 rout at Carolina on Saturday to cap a four-game road trip.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), FSN Ohio (Columbus)
ABOUT THE RANGERS (43-26-9): New York suddenly has reason to feel uneasy about the play of longtime standout goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who was yanked after allowing three goals on nine shots versus Buffalo – the eighth time in his last 10 starts the he has surrendered at least three tallies. “I have to take a lot of blame for the first three goals,” McDonagh told reporters. “I wasn’t executing nearly the way I needed.” Execution has not been an issue for center Derek Stepan, who has netted three goals to go along with six assists in his last six games.
ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (31-39-8): Brandon Saad recorded his first career hat trick Saturday, but he was effusive in his praise of 19-year-old Sonny Milano, the 2014 first-round pick who collected his first point in his second NHL game. “He can read the ice, he can make plays and obviously he’s speedy,” Saad told reporters. “You see him on the forecheck and he’s first to pucks and finds guys in the middle. He’s fun to play with.” Boone Jenner has scored six times in his last eight games to reach 30 for the season, but he’s tallied once in seven games versus the Rangers.
                    OVERTIME
                    1. Lundqvist is 8-3-1 with a 2.48 goals-against average versus Columbus.
                    2. Blue Jackets D Fedor Tyutin is expected to miss his fifth straight contest due to an undisclosed injury.
                    3. Ex-Blue Jackets F Rick Nash has three goals in nine games against his former team.
PREDICTION: Rangers 4, Blue Jackets 2

                      Preview: Florida at Toronto
When: 7:30 PM ET, Monday, April 4, 2016
Where: Air Canada Centre, Toronto, Ontario
The Florida Panthers managed to secure their second playoff berth since the 1999-2000 season without even stepping on the ice Sunday and look to maintain their slim hold atop the Atlantic Division when they open a three-game road trip at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday. Florida has won four of its last five, but the one blemish was a 5-2 home loss to Toronto on Tuesday.
The Panthers wrapped up a postseason slot when Boston lost at Chicago on Sunday and now will try to maintain their two-point edge over intrastate rival Tampa Bay with four games to play. Florida rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat visiting Montreal 4-3 on Saturday night for its franchise-record 44th victory. “We were kind of lucky. It doesn’t happen very often you come back 3-0,” Panthers veteran forward Jaromir Jagr told reporters. Last week’s loss to the Maple Leafs was only the second in the past nine meetings for Florida, which has won its last three trips to Toronto.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FSN Florida, TSN4 (Toronto)
ABOUT THE PANTHERS (44-25-9): Florida’s top line of the 44-year-old Jagr and youngsters Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau continue to wreak havoc on opponents, combining for seven points in Saturday’s win. Barkov extended his points streak to five games with a pair of goals and two assists, Jagr boosted his team-high point total to 62 and Huberdeau has scored six times during a five-game goal streak. “They’re phenomenal,” Montreal coach Michel Therrien told the media. “They’ve got size, and they’re strong on the puck. They dominate the game. It’s pretty simple.”
ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (28-39-11): After being held off the scoresheet for five consecutive teams, rookie William Nylander netted one goal and assisted on another in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Detroit to give him five tallies and four assists in 18 games. “He had a little bit of a dip in his play in the last few games maybe, but he’s always going to be dangerous,” forward P.A. Parenteau told TSN. “Every time he gets the puck he’s dangerous because he skates so well with it.” Nazem Kadri notched his third career hat trick in Toronto’s win at Florida on Tuesday.
                      OVERTIME
                      1. The Panthers have permitted six goals in 16 short-handed situations over the last four games.
                      2. Kadri has seven goals and 16 points in 15 career games against Florida.
                      3. Panthers RW Reilly Smith is one shy of giving the Panthers four 25-goal scorers for the first time in franchise history.
PREDICTION: Panthers 4, Maple Leafs 3

                        Preview: Arizona at St. Louis
When: 8:00 PM ET, Monday, April 4, 2016
Where: Scottrade Center, St. Louis, Missouri
The door remains open for the St. Louis Blues to capture their second consecutive Central Division title, and a victory over the visiting Arizona Coyotes on Monday will get one foot through it. St. Louis has won six of its last seven games, including a road triumph over Colorado on Sunday, to climb within two points of division-leading Dallas.
The Blues have one game in hand on the Stars and are four points ahead of third-place Chicago with three contests remaining – including a showdown at United Center on Thursday. Arizona is kicking off a season-ending four-game road trip after posting a stunning 3-0 victory over Presidents’ Trophy-winning Washington on Saturday. Mike Smith has been a bright spot in a disappointing season for the Coyotes, allowing fewer than three goals in six of his seven games – including the 31-save effort versus the Capitals for his 30th career shutout – since returning from core muscle surgery. St. Louis is looking to complete a sweep of the three-game season series after totaling 10 goals in the previous two meetings.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona Plus, FSN Midwest (St. Louis)
ABOUT THE COYOTES (35-36-7): Arizona will miss the playoffs for the fourth straight season but has a bright future ahead as rookies Anthony Duclair (19) and Max Domi (18) have a chance to reach the 20-goal plateau. Both have been slumping, however, as the 19-year-old Duclair has tallied in only two of his last 22 games – with one being a two-goal performance against Calgary on March 28 – while the 21-year-old Domi has scored once in 19 contests. Captain Shane Doan, the 39-year-old who has spent his entire NHL career which began in Winnipeg in 1995-96 with the Coyotes franchise, leads the team with 27 goals – his highest total since he netted 31 in 2008-09.
ABOUT THE BLUES (47-23-9): Not all was positive for St. Louis on Sunday as Jake Allen missed the final two periods with an undisclosed injury. The 25-year-old and Brian Elliott have given the Blues a strong goaltending tandem, combining for 47 victories, 10 shutouts and a 2.20 goals-against average. Paul Stastny has recorded a goal and seven assists during his five-game point streak and has collected 17 points over his last 12 contests – registering six multi-point performances in that span – while Vladimir Tarasenko has notched two goals and four assists on his five-game run and 15 points over his last 14 outings.
                        OVERTIME
                        1. Domi has set a Coyotes rookie record by notching 33 assists, eclipsing the mark Peter Mueller established in 2007-08.
                        2. St. Louis D Carl Gunnarsson returned to the lineup Sunday and saw 18:21 of ice time after missing three games with a lower-body injury.
                        3. Arizona C Martin Hanzal is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
                        PREDICTION: Blues 4, Coyotes 2

                          Preview: Los Angeles at Vancouver
When: 10:00 PM ET, Monday, April 4, 2016
Where: Rogers Arena, Vancouver, British Columbia
The Los Angeles Kings attempt to end a four-game road losing streak and regain the lead in the Pacific Division when they visit the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. Los Angeles, which is beginning a two-game trek before ending the regular season with a pair of contests at home, has not won on the road since outscoring Central Division powers Chicago and Dallas by a combined 10-2 on March 14 and 15.
The Kings, who are vying for the second division title in franchise history, trail Anaheim by one point with a home showdown with the Ducks on Thursday looming. Vancouver is seeking a season-high third consecutive victory after knocking off two of the Pacific’s top three clubs in San Jose and Anaheim – defeating both on the road. The Canucks had lost nine straight contests (0-8-1) prior to their current surge but have dropped five straight at home since defeating Nashville on March 12. Los Angeles was blanked at home in its first meeting of the season with the Canucks but have won the last three, including a 5-0 triumph on Dec. 28 in its only visit to Vancouver.
TV: 10 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver)
ABOUT THE KINGS (46-27-5): In danger of failing to reach the 20-goal plateau for the first time since 2006-07 with Philadelphia, Jeff Carter has heated up at the right time for Los Angeles. The 31-year-old has netted five tallies in his last four contests after going eight games without one, raising his season total to 23 – good for third on the team behind Tyler Toffoli (29) and Anze Kopitar (25). Captain Dustin Brown needs three points to avoid finishing with fewer than 30 for the fourth consecutive season.
ABOUT THE CANUCKS (29-36-13): Daniel Sedin leads the team with 28 goals – his highest amount since scoring 30 in 2011-12. The 35-year-old Swede’s next assist will be the 587th of his career, tying him with Paul Kariya for 89th place on the all-time list. Jannik Hansen has recorded back-to-back two-point performances to increase his season total to 36 – three short of his career high set in 2011-12.
                          OVERTIME
                          1. Kings D Drew Doughty is one power-play goal shy of reaching double digits for the first time in his career.
                          2. Vancouver makes a two-game trip to Alberta before wrapping up the season at home against Edmonton on Saturday.
                          3. Los Angeles recalled D Kevin Gravel from Ontario of the American Hockey League on Sunday.
                          PREDICTION: Kings 4, Canucks 1
