NHL notebook: Jets, Oilers to play outdoor contest

The Winnipeg Jets will host the Edmonton Oilers in an outdoor regular-season NHL game next season.
The 2016 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic will return on Sunday, Oct. 23 at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, the NHL announced Sunday
There were NHL Heritage Classic games in 2014 in Vancouver, 2011 in Calgary and 2003 in Edmonton. It will mark the Jets' first appearance in an outdoor game and the Oilers first appearance (second overall) since hosting the first-ever NHL regular-season game played outdoors at Commonwealth Stadium in 2003.
As part of the Heritage Classic. legendary players from both the Jets and Oilers will participate in a special alumni game on Saturday, Oct. 22.
---The Toronto Maple Leafs loaned forwards Kasperi Kapanen and Brendan Leipsic to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
Kapanen, 19, has skated in four games with the Maple Leafs after being recalled from the Marlies on Feb. 29, posting six shots on goal. In 32 games with the Marlies, Kapanen has collected 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists).
Leipsic, 21, has recorded one goal and two assists in six games with the Maple Leafs this season. He collected 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists) in 50 games with the Marlies.
---The Tampa Bay Lightning recalled defenseman Slater Koekkoek from their AHL affiliate in Syracuse, N.Y.
The 22-year-old Koekkoek has five goals and eight assists in 48 games with Syracuse this season. He played in four games with the Lighting earlier this season.
