      Preview: Anaheim at Philadelphia
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
One day after having its season-high six-game winning streak snapped in Pittsburgh, the Anaheim Ducks attempt to leave the Keystone State with a split when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday. Anaheim’s loss to the Penguins on Monday, which kicked off its season-high seven-game road trip, also halted its seven-game point streak away from home.
One bright spot for the Ducks is the continued strong play of captain Ryan Getzlaf, who scored a goal and set up another to give him points in 10 of his last 12 games. Philadelphia is looking to avoid a third consecutive defeat as it begins a three-game homestand. The Flyers dodged a bullet as Wayne Simmonds was not suspended by the league after delivering a punch to Ryan McDonagh that resulted in a concussion for the New York Rangers captain, but the presence of the team’s goal-scoring leader in the lineup was not enough to avoid a 3-2 loss at Washington on Sunday. Anaheim is hoping to complete a sweep of the two-game season series after posting a 4-2 victory at home on Dec. 27.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, Prime Ticket, FSN San Diego (Anaheim), CSN Philadelphia
ABOUT THE DUCKS (25-19-7): Getzlaf has recorded three two-point performances over his last five games and shares the team scoring lead of 36 points with Corey Perry. The 30-year-old Getzlaf has scored only five goals in 47 contests this season but has collected two tallies and 11 assists during his current surge. Patrick Maroon has had a difficult time trying to build upon his success from last postseason as he scored his third goal in 46 games on Monday after netting seven tallies in 16 playoff contests.
ABOUT THE FLYERS (23-19-9): Shayne Gostisbehere is riding an eight-game point streak during which he has collected two goals and nine assists. The 22-year-old’s run is the longest in the NHL by a rookie defenseman since Kevin Shattenkirk posted a nine-game streak in 2010 with Colorado. Nick Cousins hopes to begin a streak of his own after ending a 16-game drought to begin his career with an assist against Washington.
      OVERTIME
      1. Ducks G Frederik Andersen likely will start after stopping all four shots he faced in relief of John Gibson on Monday.
      2. Flyers captain Claude Giroux is six points shy of 500 for his career.
      3. Perry (two goals) and Getzlaf combined for three tallies and an assist in Anaheim’s win over Philadelphia in December.
      PREDICTION: Ducks 5, Flyers 2

        Preview: NY Islanders at Columbus
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
        Where: Nationwide Arena, Columbus, Ohio
Kyle Okposo looks to ride the momentum of his second career hat trick into his 500th NHL game on Tuesday as the visiting New York Islanders attempt to continue their dominance against the Metropolitan Division-rival Columbus Blue Jackets. Okposo scored three goals and added his team-best 27th assist in Sunday’s 8-1 rout of Edmonton to increase his point total to 41, which is one more than captain John Tavares.
“It was good. Good to put up eight,” Okposo told reporters. “… I thought we were going on all cylinders. It’s definitely nice to get rewarded.” Tavares collected a goal and two assists against the Oilers and has nine points (four goals, five assists) in his last six contests. New York has enjoyed a 12-4 goal advantage against Columbus en route to winning the first three meetings this season. The Blue Jackets will open a five-game homestand in search of their third straight victory, which would match a season-high streak (Nov. 13-17).
TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG-Plus (New York), FSN Ohio (Columbus)
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (27-18-6): Jaroslav Halak will look to snap a three-game skid on Tuesday against Columbus, which he owns an 11-4-3 career mark against. The 30-year-old turned aside all 37 shots he faced in New York’s 4-0 win over the Blue Jackets on Oct. 20 and made 28 saves in a 3-2 victory on Dec. 12. Brock Nelson powered the Islanders to their third win over their division rival on Jan. 12, recording his first career hat trick and adding an assist in the 5-2 triumph.
ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (21-28-5): David Savard was a full participant in practice on Monday, but coach John Tortorella deemed the defenseman day-to-day with an oblique injury. “It’s been a little while since I came back from my ankle injury, and only five games I think and I was out again, so I’m excited to be back on the ice with the team and practicing with them,” Savard told the team website. “I can’t wait to be back in games.” While Savard’s presence was a welcome sight at practice, Jared Boll was struck by a puck in the throat area and was excused to be evaluated.
        OVERTIME
        1. Columbus G Joonas Korpisalo, who is in line to start Tuesday, has stopped 67-of-69 shots en route to winning his last two outings.
        2. New York has scored seven power-play goals in the last eight games, but is just 2-for-12 with the man advantage versus Columbus this season.
        3. The Blue Jackets have permitted five power-play tallies in the last five contests.
PREDICTION: Islanders 4, Blue Jackets 1

          Preview: Los Angeles at Boston
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
          Where: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
Milan Lucic makes his much-anticipated return to Boston when the Los Angeles Kings kick off a seven-game road trip against the Bruins on Tuesday night at TD Garden. Lucic, who spent his first eight seasons with the Boston, was traded to the Kings on the eve of last June’s NHL draft in exchange for defenseman Colin Miller, a first-round draft pick in 2015 and goaltender Martin Jones.
“It’s kind of odd we haven’t played them yet, considering how many Eastern Conference teams we’ve played,” Lucic said. “I think it’s going to be a pretty cool experience to go in there for the first time as a visitor.” The trip comes at a good time for Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles, which has dropped four of six overall and three straight at home. The Bruins, who have gone past regulation in each of their past three games and are coming off a home-and-home sweep of the Buffalo Sabres, are looking forward to the arrival of Lucic and his physical presence. “It will be a good challenge, for sure,” Boston defenseman Kevan Miller said at Monday’s practice. “We’ve talked about it, and we need to make sure we bring our heavy game (on Tuesday).”
TV: 7 p.m. ET, TVA, FSN West (Los Angeles), NESN (Boston)
ABOUT THE KINGS (31-17-3): Lucic, who recorded a career-best 30 goals in 2010-11 and dipped to 18 last season, has scored 12 times for the Kings, although he has only one tally in the past 13 games. “Everything is starting to feel normal being around here and all those things that come with the trade,” Lucic said. “It’s nice to establish myself. The team has been on a little bit of a skid lately, but I think a road trip like this couldn’t come at a better time.” Center Anze Kopitar had a pair of assists in a 4-2 loss to Anaheim to give him three goals and 16 points in his last 11 games.
ABOUT THE BRUINS (28-18-6): While Boston has won two in a row, it continues to struggle at home with a 12-13-3 mark, including losses to Pacific Division foes Anaheim and Vancouver by a combined 10-4 margin in a six-day span prior to the All-Star break. “We have to continue our play and make sure we’re still taking steps in the right direction and continue to work on it,” defenseman Torey Krug said. “It’s always a work in progress — little baby steps — and (Tuesday) will be a great test for us.” Brad Marchand has nine goals in his last nine games after scoring the overtime game-winner Saturday.
          OVERTIME
          1. Marchand has seven goals in his last six meetings versus Los Angeles.
          2. Kings G Jonathan Quick is 1-4-0 in his last five starts while F Tyler Toffoli needs one goal to eclipse his career high of 23.
          3. The Bruins haven’t won consecutive games at home since Dec. 16-20.
          PREDICTION: Kings 3, Bruins 2

            Preview: Florida at Buffalo
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
Where: First Niagara Center, Buffalo, New York
The Florida Panthers will be without No. 1 center Aleksander Barkov when they visit the Atlantic Division-rival Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. Barkov, who had scored in four straight games and notched a point in six in a row, left Monday’s 3-0 loss at Detroit with an upper-body injury after a hit by Justin Abdelkader and is out indefinitely.
“Barkov is a big piece of our team, the engine who makes everything go,” Florida defenseman Brian Campbell told the Miami Herald. “We’ll see if guys step up.” The Panthers saw their six-game point streak (5-0-1) come to an end with the defeat and Roberto Luongo, who was rested Monday, should be back in net with a 4-0-1 record in his past five contests. The Sabres have gained at least one point in four straight (2-0-2) after losing in overtime and a shootout to Boston the last two games. All-Star Ryan O’Reilly is riding a three-game point streak while former first-round pick Sam Reinhart has scored in two straight contests for Buffalo, which is 1-2-0 against Florida this season.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, FSN Florida, MSG, BELL TV (Buffalo)
ABOUT THE PANTHERS (31-16-6): Florida also is expected to be without two of its top six defensemen – Willie Mitchell (lower body) and Erik Gudbranson (upper body) – again versus Buffalo. Nick Bjugstad could take Barkov’s spot on the top line between leading scorers Jaromir Jagr and Jonathan Huberdeau, who each have 37 points. Huberdeau has been blanked in three straight games while Jussi Jokinen (six) and Vincent Trocheck (five) both saw their point streaks end against Detroit.
ABOUT THE SABRES (21-26-6): Marcus Foligno (bruised leg) returned to practice Monday, reportedly joining linemates Jack Eichel and Matt Moulson, while Zemgus Girgensons (lower body) sat out but hopes to play Tuesday. O’Reilly leads the team with 43 points – eight more than the 19-year-old Eichel, who has netted 16 goals. Evander Kane has scored two goals in the last four contests for the Sabres, who were 27th in the league in scoring (2.26 goals) and seventh on the power play (20.4).
            OVERTIME
            1. Jagr, who has scored one goal in the last 11 games, is three shy of Brett Hull (741) for third place on the all-time list after playing his 1,600th game on Monday.
            2. Buffalo D Rasmus Ristolainen matched his season high with five shots Saturday and was a plus-1 in the 2-1 overtime loss to Boston.
            3. Luongo has posted two wins in three games against Buffalo this season and is 16-7-0 with a 1.83 goals-against average and .938 save percentage all-time versus the Sabres.
            PREDICTION: Panthers 4, Sabres 1

              Preview: Tampa Bay at Montreal
When: 7:30 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
              Where: Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec
Regardless of who stood in the crease at the other end of the ice, Ben Bishop has had his way with the Montreal Canadiens over his career. Bishop is expected to try and improve on a 10-1-3 regular-season record against the Canadiens when the Tampa Bay Lightning visit Montreal on Tuesday.
Bishop, who also beat the Canadiens in their six-game series last postseason, was rested Monday as the Lightning fell 5-1 at Ottawa and will take a 1.62 goals-against average and .938 save percentage versus Montreal into the contest. The Canadiens have won two straight after dropping nine of 10 games (1-8-1) and still are weeks away from the return of reigning Hart and Vezina Trophy winner Carey Price from a leg injury. Ben Scrivens has won two straight after losing his first four decisions with Montreal and All-Star defenseman P.K. Subban is riding a six-game point streak. The Canadiens scored only 21 goals in 11 games against Tampa Bay last season, going 0-4-1 in the regular season, but earned a 4-3 shootout victory on Dec. 28 in their only meeting of 2015-16.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Sun Sports (Tampa Bay), Sportsnet, RDS (Montreal)
ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (29-19-4): Captain Steven Stamkos is tied with Nikita Kucherov for the team lead at 21 goals but has scored just one in his last nine contests and sits at 297 for his career. J.T. Brown netted Tampa Bay’s only tally Monday and Ryan Callahan notched an assist – his second point in two contests after an eight-game drought. Jason Garrison (lower body) left Monday’s contest and is not expected to play against Montreal, while fellow defenseman Andrej Sustr was a minus-4 against Ottawa.
ABOUT THE CANADIENS (26-24-4): Captain Max Pacioretty snapped a seven-game goal-scoring drought with his team-best 20th on Sunday – reaching that plateau for the fourth time in his career. Subban tops the team with 42 points and has totaled two goals and seven assists in his last six contests while Tomas Plekanec has notched five points during a three-game run. The Canadiens were better in the defensive end in their last two contests, allowing a total two goals after surrendering 18 during a four-game losing streak.
              OVERTIME
              1. Canadiens D Nathan Beaulieu has been a healthy scratch the last two games after posting a minus-5 rating in the previous 11 contests.
              2. Tampa Bay C-RW Vladislav Namestnikov, who leads the team with a plus-16 rating, is slated to play his 100th NHL contest.
              3. Montreal C Alex Galchenyuk has registered at least one point in four of five contests after an eight-game drought.
              PREDICTION: Lightning 4, Canadiens 1

                Preview: Winnipeg at St. Louis
When: 8:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
Where: Scottrade Center, St. Louis, Missouri
Perhaps the best moment of the season for the struggling Winnipeg Jets occurred on the practice ice Monday in St. Louis, as the Jets finished preparations to face the Blues on Tuesday. The team mobbed defenseman Dustin Byfuglien after coach Paul Maurice announced to the squad the All-Star had signed a five-year, $38-million contract, forgoing free agency at season’s end.
“My family and I have loved Winnipeg and we’re very happy to stay here,” Byfuglien told reporters after Monday’s practice for the Jets, who sit nine points behind the final Western Conference playoff spot. The news was not as good for the Blues on Monday, as St. Louis lost defenseman Alex Pietrangelo – fourth in the NHL in playing time (26:40 per game) – for at least three weeks with a right knee injury. “It’s a huge loss,” goaltender Brian Elliott told the team’s website Monday. “You never want to lose anybody, but he plays close to 30 minutes a night.” The Blues rediscovered their offense in a 4-1 victory over Minnesota on Saturday after tallying just five times in the previous five contests.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, TSN3 (Winnipeg), FSN Midwest (St. Louis)
ABOUT THE JETS (23-26-3): Not all the news was good for Winnipeg as forward Drew Stafford, who fueled Saturday’s 4-2 victory at Colorado with two goals and an assist, drew a one-game suspension for a high stick on Avalanche defenseman Nick Holden. Byfuglien is tied for second among NHL defensemen with 15 goals and has been red hot lately, registering four goals with three assists in his past five games. Goaltender Michael Hutchinson, buried on the bench in lieu of rookie Connor Hellebuyck, stopped 32-of-34 shots Saturday in just his second start since Jan. 3.
ABOUT THE BLUES (30-17-8): Saturday’s victory over division-rival Minnesota marked the highest scoring output by St. Louis since a five-goal outing Jan. 18 against Pittsburgh, and the Blues converted three power plays – after recording that many in their previous 12 contests. Forward Vladimir Tarasenko is sixth in the NHL in goals with 26 going into Monday, snapping a five-game goalless streak with Saturday’s opening tally. Elliott turned aside 23-of-24 shots in the second period alone, finishing with 38 saves last time out.
                OVERTIME
                1. St. Louis went scoreless on its first power play against Minnesota, extending a goalless streak to 24 in a row before scoring on three of its next five opportunities with a man advantage.
                2. Winnipeg also has found its stride offensively of late, scoring 15 goals in the past four games after recording just one each in its previous four contests.
                3. The Blues have lost 197 man games to injuries this season, fifth-most in the NHL.

                  Preview: Washington at Nashville
When: 8:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
                  Where: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tennessee
The Nashville Predators are holding on tight to a wild-card position in the Western Conference with a difficult stretch ahead, starting with a visit from the NHL-leading Washington Capitals on Tuesday. Nashville takes on red-hot Tampa Bay and Florida on the road before hosting Dallas in the next three contests after Washington comes to town with a three-game win streak.
The Predators, who are tied with Colorado for the first of two wild-card spots and three points ahead of Minnesota, look to build on a 6-2 victory over San Jose on Saturday. The Capitals have won three consecutive 3-2 decisions, including Sunday’s triumph against Philadelphia as captain Alex Ovechkin became the third player in NHL history to reach 30 goals in his first 11 seasons. “He’s probably the best goal-scorer of this generation of players,” Washington coach Barry Trotz told reporters. “It’s not surprising. He’s probably going to do it another time or two.” The Capitals, who have lost three straight times at Nashville, begin a three-game trip that continues on to Minnesota and Dallas.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, CSN DC (Washington), FSN Tennessee (Nashville)
ABOUT THE CAPITALS (38-9-4): Washington leads the NHL on the power play at 24.2 percent, but has come up empty in 17 chances with the man advantage over the past five games after going 4-for-6 in the previous two. Evgeny Kuznetsov leads the Capitals with 53 points, including 12 assists in his last seven contests, while fellow All-Star Nicklas Backstrom (48) and Ovechkin (44) add support. Forward Andre Burakovsky, who turns 21 on Tuesday, has six goals and three assists during a seven-game point streak.
ABOUT THE PREDATORS (25-20-8): Nashville struggled in two games after hosting the All-Star Game before its offense got in gear against San Jose, led by Filip Forsberg (goal, two assists). Ryan Johansen, who has 14 points (four goals) in 13 games since being acquired from Columbus, has joined James Neal (team-best 19 goals) and Calle Jarnkrok (goals in two straight) on a new top line. Defensemen Roman Josi (37 points) and Shea Weber (35), who has a goal and assist in each of the last two games, lead the team in scoring.
                  OVERTIME
                  1. Capitals D John Carlson has 27 points in 39 games overall, but hasn’t recorded a point in five contests since returning from injured reserve.
                  2. Nashville F Colin Wilson (lower-body injury) could return to the lineup for the first time since Jan. 8.
                  3. Washington G Braden Holtby leads the league with 33 victories, but is 1-1-0 in three games with a 4.05 goals-against average lifetime versus the Predators.

                    Preview: Dallas at Minnesota
When: 8:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
Where: Xcel Energy Center, Saint Paul, Minnesota
Minnesota Wild coach Mike Yeo told reporters that he was “a little nervous” on how his sputtering team would be received on Tuesday when it opens a three-game homestand against the Central Division-rival Dallas Stars. After all, Yeo has seen Minnesota drop five straight and 10 of 11 (1-9-1) to find itself on the outside of the postseason picture.
The Wild haven’t been giving the fans at Xcel Energy Center much to cheer of late, either, and will look to prevent a franchise-worst sixth straight loss at home. A lack of offense has been to blame for Minnesota, which mustered just seven goals during an 0-3-2 skid at home and was limited to just defenseman Matt Dumba’s tally in a 4-1 setback to St. Louis on Saturday. Dallas also had a poor showing against a Central Division foe in its last contest, with Tyler Seguin netting his third goal in as many games in Saturday’s 5-1 loss to Chicago. The 24-year-old Seguin has collected two goals and three assists and captain Jamie Benn had three and four, respectively, as Dallas has won three of the four meetings this season.
                    TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCSN
ABOUT THE STARS (33-15-5): As the ratings suggest, a great number of people watched Super Bowl 50 – and that included Dallas coach Lindy Ruff. “I used the Super Bowl as an example this morning. The defensive team won again,” Ruff told the team’s website. “Defense dominated the game. Denver gave them no time, gave them no space. … A good defense kind of snuffed everything out and frustrated the (heck) out of an offensive team.” While Dallas’ high-octane offense is producing 3.21 goals per game and is second only to NHL-leading Washington, the Stars’ 2.68 tallies allowed is 20th-best in the league.
ABOUT THE WILD (23-20-9): Minnesota’s defensive depth will be tested on Tuesday as Jared Spurgeon is nursing a deep bruise and is unlikely to face the Stars. “Obviously he’s in a lot of discomfort (Monday), and feeling pretty sore, and consider him doubtful (for Tuesday), but not something long-term,” Yeo told the team’s website. Blue-liner Jonas Brodin will be out “long-term” to the tune of three-to-six weeks after breaking his foot while blocking a shot versus the New York Rangers on Thursday.
                    OVERTIME
                    1. Dallas G Antti Niemi yielded just two goals on 25 shots to suffer the hard-luck 2-1 loss to Minnesota on Jan. 9, falling to 10-4-2 with a 1.94 goals-against average in his career versus the club.
                    2. Wild C Charlie Coyle has recorded two goals and four assists in the season series.
                    3. Minnesota captain Mikko Koivu made a brief appearance during Monday’s practice, but left the ice shortly thereafter with what Yeo called discomfort.
                    PREDICTION: Stars 4, Wild 1

                      Preview: Edmonton at New Jersey
When: 8:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
Where: Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey
The New Jersey Devils will retire the jersey of one of the greatest goaltenders ever to play the game prior to hosting the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Martin Brodeur, who led the Devils to three Stanley Cup championships and is the winningest netminder in league history with 691 victories, will have his No. 30 raised to the roof by the club.
Brodeur received another huge tribute on Monday, when New Jersey unveiled an 11-foot bronze statue of him outside the Prudential Center. About 4,000 fans were on hand for the ceremony for the statue, which is a likeness of Brodeur giving his trademark salute to the team’s fans. “I just felt that after looking at the pictures of my career and some of the events that meant a lot to me, I always saluted the fans, even at different times in my career and while in different jerseys,” Brodeur said. “It just felt right because that’s the pose people recognize the most when thinking of me.” The Devils could use an emotional boost as they attempt to halt a three-game skid that includes two overtime defeats and a 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Monday.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, TVA (Edmonton), MSG (New Jersey)
ABOUT THE OILERS (21-28-5): After opening its four-game road trip with an impressing 7-2 thrashing of Ottawa, Edmonton has been mauled by a combined 13-2 in losses to Montreal and the New York Islanders. “We got our butts handed to us in Montreal and we came in here and responded in a very inappropriate way, and that’s very disappointing,” coach Todd McLellan said after Sunday’s 8-1 drubbing by the Islanders. Rookie Connor McDavid – the top overall pick in the 2015 draft – scored the lone goal, giving him two tallies and six points in four games since returning from a three-month absence.
ABOUT THE DEVILS (26-21-7): Even though New Jersey won five of six before the current three-game dry spell, it has been outshot in nine consecutive games – including a 37-28 advantage for the Rangers that had Cory Schneider and Kyle Palmieri questioning if the team was ready to play. The Devils have scored a total of eight goals – half coming on the power play – during the last five games, but they did not have one chance with the man advantage on Monday. “When you don’t get a power play, I think it’s indicative of how hard your team played tonight,” coach John Hynes said.
                      OVERTIME
                      1. Oilers leading scorer Taylor Hall has recorded three goals and seven points in six games versus New Jersey.
                      2. The Devils have killed off all 16 short-handed situations in their last four games.
                      3. Oilers C Leon Draisaitl notched a goal and two assists in a 5-1 victory over visiting New Jersey on Nov. 20.
                      PREDICTION: Devils 4, Oilers 2

                        Preview: San Jose at Chicago

When: 8:30 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
                        Where: United Center, Chicago, Illinois
The Chicago Blackhawks are enjoying quite the surge with wins in 16 of their last 19 games as they vie for home-ice advantage in the Western Conference. After a lengthy trek on the road, the Blackhawks will compete at the United Center for the first time in 16 days on Tuesday when they open a four-game homestand against the San Jose Sharks.
“It’s nice,” Crawford told the team’s website on Monday. “It felt like we were on the road for a month there. We had the break, came home for the night, and then went back out on the road. So, it’s nice to be back.” Crawford turned aside 36 shots in Chicago’s 5-1 rout of Dallas on Saturday and improved to 8-2-3 versus San Jose with a victory in both November and December. The Sharks dropped a 6-2 decision to Nashville on Saturday to fall to 1-2-0 on their four-game road trip. The rough waters are unfamiliar for San Jose, which owns the best road record in the Western Conference (17-8-2).
TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, CSN California (San Jose), CSN Chicago, NHL.TV
ABOUT THE SHARKS (27-20-4): Martin Jones, who permitted five goals on 29 shots versus the Predators, is expected to make his eighth straight start on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Jones yielded four tallies in a 5-2 loss to Chicago on Nov. 25 and the same amount in a 4-3 overtime setback on Dec. 20. Joonas Donskoi scored and set up a goal in the most recent meeting with the Blackhawks and has eight points (two goals, six assists) in his last nine outings.
ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (36-16-4): Captain Jonathan Toews, who has scored in both encounters with San Jose this season, has hit the ground running after sitting out the All-Star Game due to an illness. Toews scored twice in a 5-4 win over Arizona on Thursday before adding his 300th career assist two nights later against the Stars. Patrick Kane scored his league-leading 32nd goal on Saturday and also had a tally and three assists in two meetings with the Sharks.
                        OVERTIME
                        1. San Jose LW Patrick Marleau scored in the first meeting with the Blackhawks, but has just one goal in his last 16 contests.
                        2. Chicago hasn’t played at home since skating to a 2-0 victory over St. Louis on Jan. 24.
                        3. The Sharks have killed off all eight short-handed situations in February.

                          Preview: Vancouver at Colorado
When: 9:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
                          Where: Pepsi Center, Denver, Colorado
It appears the Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks are destined to finish outside the top three in their divisions, but Tuesday’s game in Denver could feature a playoff vibe as the clubs battle for the two wild-card positions in the Western Conference. Colorado and Nashville own those two spots with 58 points apiece – good for fourth in the Central Division and 10 points behind third-place St. Louis, but three clear of Minnesota in the wild-card race.
Vancouver has lost four straight (0-3-1) following Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Calgary and, like Minnesota and Arizona (54 points), has played three games fewer than Colorado – one fewer than Nashville. “It’s frustrating and we’ve got to start turning the corner,” Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller told reporters. “… We’ve got to start digging ourselves out.” The Avalanche have dropped three consecutive games (0-2-1) after Saturday’s inexplicable 4-2 loss at home to last-place Winnipeg. “I would say since the All-Star break we haven’t played a good game,” Colorado coach Patrick Roy told reporters. “We’re not sharp, and it’s too bad because it comes at the wrong moment. We put ourselves in a playoff spot and we had a chance with three games at home to start where we left off. We should be disappointed right now. We cannot be happy about the way we’ve been playing in the last three games. We’re making too many mistakes.”
TV: 9 p.m. ET, Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver), Altitude (Colorado)
ABOUT THE CANUCKS (20-20-12): Vancouver is completely healthy for the first time since early November as defenseman Dan Hamhuis returned Saturday after missing 21 games because of facial fractures. Henrik Sedin (team-best 28 assists) continues to get his legs back after playing his second game since missing four prior to the All-Star break (upper-body injury). Daniel Sedin paces the club with 21 goals and 44 points, but hasn’t recorded a point in two games since the break.
ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (27-24-4): Semyon Varlamov played his first game Saturday since missing four while dealing with a civil suit involving an alleged domestic violence incident with a former girlfriend. The 27-year-old Russian was riding a four-game winning streak prior to his down time and must regain that form if Colorado is to maintain its playoff position. Matt Duchene scored his team-high 24th goal Saturday and shares the club lead in points at 43 with Nathan MacKinnon.
                          OVERTIME
                          1. The Canucks scored one power-play goal in 12 chances over their last eight games.
                          2. The Avalanche are the only Central Division team that doesn’t average better than a point per game at home this season (12-12-4).
                          3. Colorado won two of the three meetings last season and has been victorious in four of the last five encounters.
                          PREDICTION: Avalanche 3, Canucks 2

                            Preview: Toronto at Calgary

When: 9:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 9, 2016
                            Where: Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta
The Calgary Flames attempt to post back-to-back wins for the first time in more than a month when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Calgary is coming off a 4-1 triumph at Vancouver on Saturday that put it in position for its first winning streak since recording victories on Jan. 2 and 5.
Sean Monahan has been surging offensively, recording six points (two goals) over his last three contests after a seven-game stretch during which he notched only one tally. Toronto hopes to have Tyler Bozak in the lineup as it continues its five-game road trip. Bozak, the team’s second-leading scorer with 31 points, took an elbow to the head from Ottawa’s Mika Zibanejad in the first period Saturday as the Maple Leafs began their trek with a 6-1 loss and exited the contest. Toronto and Calgary split their two-game series last season, with each club posting a three-goal victory at home.
TV: 9 p.m. ET, Sportsnet Ontario (Toronto), Sportsnet West (Calgary)
ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (19-23-9): James Reimer’s quest for his first three-game winning streak since a five-game run from Nov. 10-20 ended in quick fashion Saturday as he was pulled after allowing three goals on eight shots. The 27-year-old has surrendered three or more goals in three of his last four games, losing two of them. Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau has picked up his play of late as he enters Tuesday with a three-game point streak after landing on the scoresheet in only two of his previous 10 contests.
ABOUT THE FLAMES (23-25-3): Defenseman T.J. Brodie has come back strong after leaving Wednesday’s victory over Carolina with a lower-body injury, registering three assists while averaging more than 26 1/2 minutes in two games. All-Star Johnny Gaudreau leads the team with 21 goals and 49 points but has been kept off the scoresheet in two straight contests and four of his last six. Calgary is hoping Sam Bennett is breaking out of his slump as he notched a goal and an assist in Saturday’s triumph to end his five-game point drought.
                            OVERTIME
                            1. Maple Leafs C Leo Komarov leads the team with 33 points but hasn’t recorded a point in six of his last eight contests.
                            2. Calgary C Jiri Hudler notched two goals and four assists over his last six games after recording two assists in his previous six.
                            3. Toronto ranks 29th in the league on the power play with a 15.1 percent success rate, ahead of only Calgary’s 14.2 percent.
PREDICTION: Flames 4, Maple Leafs 2
