        Preview: Toronto at Boston
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 2, 2016
        Where: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
The beginning of the second-half schedule sets up nicely for the Boston Bruins, who will play their first three games against the two worst teams in the Atlantic Division – starting with Tuesday night’s clash against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs. The Bruins are holding down the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference but have six teams within five points of them.
“Where we’re at right now is in playoff position,” Boston coach Claude Julien said. “We can’t lose that. We’re in it and we need to hold onto it.” The Bruins had won five of six before getting demolished at home by Anaheim 6-2 in their final game before the All-Star break. The skidding Maple Leafs have dropped four in a row (0-2-2) and nine of their last 10 (1-7-2) to fall into the division cellar. Toronto has been blanked three times over the past 10 games and has scored a combined eight goals in the nine losses.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, TVA, TSN (Toronto), NESN (Boston)
ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (17-22-9): Toronto’s offense hit its nadir during the four-game skid, managing a total of three goals and absorbing a pair of 1-0 shutouts at the hands of Tampa Bay and Carolina. Complicating matters for the Maple Leafs is a rugged schedule that features six of their next seven games away from home, including a three-game swing through Western Canada before they conclude the trek at reigning Stanley Cup champion Chicago. Leo Komarov, who leads Toronto with 16 goals and 31 points, personifies the offensive struggles with one tally in the last 16 games.
ABOUT THE BRUINS (26-18-5): Backup goaltender Jonas Gustavsson, who was taken out of the loss to Anaheim because of an irregular heart rate, was placed on injured reserve Monday and Malcolm Subban was recalled from Providence of the American Hockey League. Forward David Pastrnak, who was sent to the minors during the All-Star break, was also recalled from Providence after scoring three goals in his last seven games. Brad Marchand had a five-game goal-scoring streak halted in the loss to the Ducks but leads the Bruins with 20 tallies, including four in three games versus Toronto.
        OVERTIME
        1. Bruins G Tuukka Rask has won all three meetings against the Maple Leafs this season to improve to 14-3-1 with a 1.81 goals-against average versus them.
        2. The Maple Leafs are 0-for-26 on the power play over their past nine games.
        3. Boston has dropped six of its last nine at home and is 11-13-2 at TD Garden.
PREDICTION: Bruins 3, Maple Leafs 2 (OT)

Preview: NY Rangers at New Jersey
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 2, 2016
Where: Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey
The New York Rangers appeared to get back on track by winning three of their final four games entering the All-Star break and hope to continue the momentum when they visit the Metropolitan Division-rival New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. It will mark the first of three meetings over the next three weeks between the Rangers and Devils.
New York had gone almost two months between winning consecutive games before beating Vancouver and Carolina on Jan. 19 and 22. Forward Rick Nash, injured in the win over the Hurricanes, did not practice again Monday and will sit out Tuesday’s game. New Jersey had rattled off four consecutive victories before a 2-0 loss at Pittsburgh to end the first half. “The last game against Pittsburgh didn’t sit well with us,” Devils right wing Lee Stempniak said. “So, we parked that and moved on, but it’s the final stretch now, so, for us, it’s a big game against the Rangers.”
TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG2 (New York), MSG-Plus (New Jersey)
ABOUT THE RANGERS (27-17-5): Nash, who is third on New York with 33 points, underwent a CT on his knee Monday that did not reveal any additional damage beyond a bad bone bruise that coach Alain Vigneault said is taking longer to heal than the team anticipated. “Rick Nash, he’s kind of a quiet leader in our group here,” Derek Stepan said. “He leads by example and he brings it every night he comes. He’s a top-six forward that’s gonna be badly missed, but at the same time injuries happen.” Stepan was heating up before the break with a goal and five assists in his last six games.
ABOUT THE DEVILS (25-20-5): New Jersey with be without a key play of its own after leading scorer Michael Cammalleri aggravated a hand injury versus Pittsburgh and was placed on injured reserve Monday, retroactive to Jan. 26. “It started acting up on him again, so we’ve got to shut him down here for a little bit and give him a little bit of time and see how quickly he can get back,” Devils coach John Hynes said. Hynes also is uncertain of the status of defensemen John Moore, prompting Monday’s recall of Joe Blandisi and defenseman Seth Helgeson from Albany of the American Hockey League.
          OVERTIME
          1. Stempniak, a former Ranger, has four goals in his last four contests and netted the game-winner in OT in New Jersey’s 2-1 win at New York on Oct. 18.
          2. Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist is 5-0-1 in his last six versus the Devils and has won his last three at New Jersey.
          3. The Devils were 3-5-0 in eight games missed by Cammalleri last month.
          PREDICTION: Rangers 4, Devils 2

            Preview: Minnesota at NY Islanders
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 2, 2016
Where: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York
Zach Parise told reporters that the Minnesota Wild are trying to walk too fine a line, and they routinely found themselves off course in the process. After mustering just 23 goals in their last 13 games (3-7-3), the Wild look to get back on track Tuesday when they return from the All-Star break to visit the New York Islanders.
“We’re making it too hard on ourselves, trying to win games 1-0, so we’re not going to get very far doing that,” Parise said on Monday. “We have to start playing a lot better on the offensive side of the puck.” While Minnesota is struggling, New York suffered its first regulation loss in five outings (3-1-1) with a 4-2 setback to Detroit on Jan. 25. Brock Nelson has scored six goals in his last seven outings to reside one shy of last season’s career-high total.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), MSG-Plus (New York)
ABOUT THE WILD (23-17-9): Tensions boiled over during Monday’s intense practice as captain Mikko Koivu and defenseman Matt Dumba found themselves involved in a shoving match. “It’s a battle drill and things happen,” Koivu told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “It’s not the first time and it’s not the last time. And we’ll go from there.” Koivu scored a goal and set up two others to help Minnesota defeat the Islanders on both occasions last season.
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (25-16-6): John Tavares recorded five points in as many contests before emerging victorious in the shooting accuracy competition during the All-Star break. Jaroslav Halak could use some of that good fortune as he has dropped six of his last nine starts overall (3-5-1) and six of eight career decisions versus Minnesota (2-2-4). Halak could see a familiar face in defenseman Johnny Boychuk, who is in line to return to action after missing nine games with an upper-body injury.
            OVERTIME
            1. Minnesota is 3-for-39 on the power play in its last 19 contests.
            2. The Islanders had killed off all 22 short-handed situations over a six-game stretch before allowing a power-play goal versus the Red Wings.
            3. The Wild have been idle since dropping a 2-1 shootout loss on Jan. 25.
            PREDICTION: Islanders 4, Wild 2

              Preview: Montreal at Philadelphia
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 2, 2016
Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The Montreal Canadiens bolted out of the blocks with nine straight victories to begin the season before a pronounced losing skid has sent the club spiraling to the middle of the pack in the Atlantic Division. Mired in a 5-18-1 swoon, the Canadiens look to get back on track Tuesday when they return from the All-Star break to visit the Philadelphia Flyers.
“This is the time to stand up and push back,” forward Brendan Gallagher told the team’s website. “We cannot take this anymore. This has to be the end of this. Nobody likes this feeling right now. We all hate the results that we’re getting, and it’s up to us to change them.” Brayden Schenn is enjoying quite the surge for the Flyers, scoring five goals and setting up six others in his last 11 games – including two of each in the last three. Schenn recorded a three-point performance (one goal, two assists) in a 4-3 setback to the Canadiens on Jan. 5.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, RDS, Sportsnet (Montreal), CSN Philadelphia
ABOUT THE CANADIENS (24-22-4): Captain Max Pacioretty is expected to return to the ice after being on the receiving end of a shot from teammate P.K. Subban in Tuesday’s 5-2 loss to Columbus. Montreal certainly can use the jolt as Pacioretty has a team-leading 19 goals this season and one of his 17 assists in the previous encounter with Philadelphia. Subban was held off the scoresheet in that tilt versus the Flyers, but has notched two points in each of his last two contests and 13 (three goals, 10 assists) in his last 13 games.
ABOUT THE FLYERS (21-18-8): Steve Mason sat out Wednesday’s 4-3 victory over Washington, but the veteran expects the additional rest to do him good as he works past a nagging lower-body injury and into an important stretch for Philadelphia. “This is our season right here, the month of February with the amount of games in that short amount of time,” Mason told CSN Philly of the team’s hectic 15-game slate which ends on Feb. 29 – the day of the trade deadline. Mason’s availability against Montreal is made all the more important as fellow goaltender Michal Neuvirth exited Monday’s practice with an undisclosed injury.
              OVERTIME
              1. Philadelphia RW Jakub Voracek has recorded 10 points (four goals, six assists) in his last seven games.
              2. The Canadiens have scored a power-play goal in four of their last six contests, but went 0-for-4 in the last meeting with the Flyers.
              3. Philadelphia C Sean Couturier (lower body) is in line to return from a three-game absence.
              PREDICTION: Canadiens 4, Flyers 1

                Preview: Ottawa at Pittsburgh
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 2, 2016
Where: Consol Energy Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Marc-Andre Fleury and the Pittsburgh Penguins are on quite the roll, and that could spell negative news for the sputtering Ottawa Senators. With two shutouts in his last four starts and a 5-0-1 mark in his last six at home, Fleury looks to send the surging Penguins to their fourth straight victory when they host the Senators on Tuesday.
Fleury turned aside all 25 shots he faced in Pittsburgh’s 2-0 victory over Metropolitan Division-rival New Jersey on Wednesday and also aided the Penguins to a 2-0 triumph over Ottawa in the teams’ first meeting on Oct. 15. Evgeni Malkin scored one of his team-leading 23 goals versus the Senators and has 11 tallies and three assists in his last 10 home meetings with Ottawa. Captain Erik Karlsson continued his strong season by scoring in the Senators’ 3-2 setback to Atlantic Division-rival Buffalo last Tuesday, marking the team’s 11th loss in 17 outings (6-10-1). The two-time Norris Trophy winner has a club-best 52 points this season and 18 (three goals, 15 assists) in 19 career meetings with Pittsburgh.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, RDS2, WPCW (Ottawa), ROOT (Pittsburgh)
ABOUT THE SENATORS (23-21-6): Bobby Ryan has scored five goals and set up two others during his blistering six-game point streak, but has just two tallies in 11 career meetings with Pittsburgh. “One step forward, one step back,” Ryan told reporters of the team’s troubles. “We’re not making the playoffs if we don’t figure it out quickly. Very quickly.” Craig Anderson turned aside 34 shots in the first meeting to fall for the eighth time in 13 career encounters with Pittsburgh.
ABOUT THE PENGUINS (24-17-7): Captain Sidney Crosby has rebounded from a sluggish start in a big way, recording 31 points in his past 28 games – with 11 goals in his last 15 contests. The two-time Hart Trophy winner is also giving the fans at Consol Energy Center a thrill, scoring nine times during his career-long seven-game home goal streak. Crosby isn’t the only one on a roll as defenseman Kris Letang secured NHL Third Star of the Month (for January) honors on Monday after collecting three goals and 11 assists in his last 10 contests.
                OVERTIME
                1. Pittsburgh LW Carl Hagelin is riding a career-high four-game assist streak.

                3. Penguins LW Chris Kunitz will be a game-time decision after missing two contests with a lower-body injury.

                  Preview: Florida at Washington
When: 7:30 PM ET, Tuesday, February 2, 2016
Where: Verizon Center, Washington, District Of Columbia
The Washington Capitals won’t have captain Alex Ovechkin when they start the post-All Star Game portion of the schedule against the visiting Florida Panthers on Tuesday in a battle of Eastern Conference division leaders. Ovechkin (28 goals) was suspended one contest by the NHL for skipping the All-Star Game due to an undisclosed injury.
The Capitals, who own the best record in the league (35-8-4), had two recent games postponed because of a snowstorm on the East Coast and will be playing only their second contest in a 14-day span. The teams are expected to go with their backup goaltenders as Florida’s Al Montoya opposes Philipp Grubauer while All-Stars Roberto Luongo (Panthers) and Braden Holtby (Capitals) sit out. Florida finished with three straight wins before the break, outscoring its opponents 14-3, after losing four in a row (0-3-1). All-Star Jaromir Jagr has managed one point in his last six games for the Panthers and is two shy of becoming the sixth player in NHL history with 1,100 assists.
                  TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN
ABOUT THE PANTHERS (29-15-5): Jagr, who played in his first All-Star Game since 2004, has recorded 33 points – one behind Jonathan Huberdeau for the team lead. The duo has combined, for the most part, with center Aleksander Barkov (31 points) to form one of the best lines in hockey while Reilly Smith, who tops the Panthers with 16 tallies, is riding a four-game goal-scoring streak. Montoya, who has a 7-2-1 record with a 1.92 goals-against average and .929 save percentage, is 1-0-1 (three goals allowed) against Washington this season.
ABOUT THE CAPITALS (35-8-4): Washington lost 4-3 in overtime to Philadelphia before the break, so it has not won a game since defeating Columbus on Jan. 19. Despite the absence of Ovechkin, the Capitals will have two All-Stars in the lineup in leading scorer Evgeny Kuznetsov (15 goals, 49 points) and Nicklas Backstrom (16, 45), but Marcus Johansson (upper body) is doubtful. Grubauer (5-3-1, 2.12 GAA, .925 save percentage) won his last start on Jan. 10 against Ottawa and has stopped 55-of-57 shots over his last three appearances.
                  OVERTIME
                  1. The Panthers are 3-for-9 on the power play in their last two games after going 0-for-25 over the previous nine.
                  2. Washington D John Carlson (27 points in 35 games) returned against Philadelphia last Wednesday after missing a month with a lower-body injury.
                  3. Florida LW Jussi Jokinen notched four points during the three-game winning streak before the break.
                  PREDICTION: Capitals 4, Panthers 3

                    Preview: St. Louis at Nashville
When: 8:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 2, 2016
                    Where: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tennessee
The Nashville Predators began to find their best form before the All-Star break and look to carry that over with a four-game homestand that begins against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday. Nashville has allowed one goal in each contest during its perfect four-game road trip prior to the break, pushing itself into the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Pekka Rinne, one of four Predators who participated in All-Star Weekend in the Music City, won three of those games after struggling through most of the first half of the campaign. Nashville will try to maintain its stingy play on defense against the Blues, who totaled one goal in two games before the break. All-Star Vladimir Tarasenko leads St. Louis with 25 goals and 46 points but has been kept off the scoresheet in three consecutive games. Brian Elliott has performed admirably in net since Jake Allen went down with a knee injury, allowing 15 goals while going 5-2-1 in eight straight starts for the Blues.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, FSN Midwest (St. Louis), FSN Tennessee (Nashville)
ABOUT THE BLUES (28-16-8): St. Louis has been looking for a little bit more supplemental offense behind Tarasenko and Alex Steen (15 goals, 42 points) as it stands 22nd in the league in scoring (2.42 goals per game). Pending free agent David Backes is third on the team with 28 points – just ahead of defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk (27), who has been mentioned in trade rumors as the team looks to bring in more offense. Jaden Schwartz (ankle) could help when he returns soon from injured reserve and Robby Fabbri (11 goals) continues to progress.
ABOUT THE PREDATORS (24-18-8): The Predators also may be in the market for offense before the trade deadline as they rank 18th in the league in scoring (2.54). All-Star defensemen Roman Josi (35 points) and captain Shea Weber (31) lead the team in scoring while All-Star forward James Neal tops the club with 18 goals. Ryan Johansen has been productive since being acquired from Columbus for defenseman Seth Jones, notching three goals and 10 points in 10 games.
                    OVERTIME
                    1. The Blues have won four straight meetings, including three this season – two by just one goal.
                    2. The Predators are 18-for-18 on the penalty kill over their last six contests.
                    3. St. Louis D Colton Parayko is second among all rookies in the league – first among blue-liners – with a plus-18 rating.
                    PREDICTION: Predators 4, Blues 2

                      Preview: Columbus at Edmonton
When: 9:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 2, 2016
                      Where: Rexall Place, Edmonton, Alberta
The Columbus Blue Jackets look to carry the momentum they built prior to the All-Star break into the second half of the season as they continue their four-game road trip Tuesday against the Edmonton Oilers. Columbus, which resides in the basement of the Metropolitan Division, entered the break with a three-game point streak that included a sweep of its home-and-home series with spiraling Montreal.
Brandon Saad also hopes to remain hot after scoring three of his team-leading 19 goals in the two-game set versus the Canadiens. Edmonton is looking for better results in the second half as it ranks last in the Pacific Division – and Western Conference – after carrying a three-game slide into the break. Taylor Hall has been a bright spot despite the Oilers’ woes as he rides a five-game point streak (two goals, five assists) into February. The Blue Jackets swept the two-game series with Edmonton last season, posting a pair of shootout victories.
TV: 9 p.m. ET, FSN Ohio (Columbus), Sportsnet (Edmonton)
ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (19-27-5): Saad, who has recorded club highs of 19 goals and 35 points in his first season with Columbus, was the team’s lone representative at the All-Star Game and notched an assist in the Metropolitan Division’s first-round loss to the Atlantic. Scott Hartnell is involved in a three-way tie for second on the team in tallies and is three away from reaching the 20-goal plateau for the ninth time in his career and fifth in as many full seasons. The 33-year-old is one point behind Saad and leads the club with seven power-play goals.
ABOUT THE OILERS (19-26-5): Hall represented Edmonton well during the weekend festivities, recording two goals and an assist in the Pacific Division’s first-round victory over the Central before helping the team edge the Atlantic in the championship game. The 24-year-old leads Edmonton in most offensive categories, including goals (18), assists (30), points (48), power-play tallies (three) and game-winners (six). Hall, Teddy Purcell and Mark Letestu are the only members of the club to have appeared in all 50 games.
                      OVERTIME
                      1. Edmonton is 3-5-0 is its last eight home contests but hasn’t posted a regulation win at Rexall Place since Dec. 21 against Winnipeg.
                      2. Columbus D Seth Jones has notched six assists in 10 games since being acquired from Nashville for Ryan Johansen.
                      3. The Blue Jackets have allowed a league-low one short-handed goal this season along with Boston and Nashville.
PREDICTION: Oilers 3, Blue Jackets 2

                        Preview: Los Angeles at Arizona
When: 9:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 2, 2016
Where: Gila River Arena, Glendale, Arizona
Los Angeles hasn’t won a division title since the 1990-91 season, but it hardly seems to matter since the Kings have won two of the last four Stanley Cups. Los Angeles, though, has a seven-point lead in the Pacific and continues its quest for a long-awaited division title and the No. 1 seed that goes with it when the Kings visit the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday, beginning a stretch when they play eight of nine on the road.
“If you look around the room and right down the line … this has gotta be one of the best teams we’ve ever had on paper, without a doubt,” defenseman Drew Doughty told the Los Angeles Times. The Kings appear loaded for the stretch run with an ample offense featuring forwards Anze Kopitar (team-best 42 points), Tyler Toffoli (club-leading 22 goals) and Jeff Carter, a blue line group led by all-star Doughty and one of the top goaltenders in the NHL in all-star Jonathan Quick. Arizona is 2-4-1 in its last seven games and 10 points behind Los Angeles as it clings to third place in the Pacific Division, two points ahead of Vancouver and surging Anaheim. Coyotes goaltender Louis Domingue on Monday was named the NHL Rookie of the Month for January after going 6-3-2 with a .925 save percentage and 2.20 goals-against average, and is expected to start Tuesday as he excels while replacing the injured Mike Smith (core muscle).
TV: 9 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), FSN Arizona
ABOUT THE KINGS (30-16-3): Quick (26-13-2, .919, 2.19) is expected to be in goal and tries to snap a three-game losing streak as Los Angeles blew a third-period lead in a 4-3 loss to Colorado on Wednesday for its third loss in the last four games. The Kings have received a lift from center Vincent Lecavalier, who has four goals and two assists in 10 games since being acquired from Philadelphia. Rugged left wing Kyle Clifford (upper-body injury) was recalled from Ontario of the American Hockey League on Sunday and could play for the first time in 23 games since being elbowed in the head by Tampa Bay’s Victor Hedman on Dec. 6.
ABOUT THE COYOTES (24-20-5): Domingue is one of three rookies who have made an impact for Arizona as left wings Max Domi and Anthony Duclair are tied for third on the club with 13 goals apiece. Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson is tied for the team lead with forward Mikkel Boedker at 34 points, and four of his 14 goals this season have come against Los Angeles. Right wing Shane Doan leads the club with 17 goals and the 39-year-old is on pace to match his career high of 31 set in the 2008-09 season.
                        OVERTIME
                        1. The Kings have the No. 7 power play in the NHL at 20.4 percent, but are 1-for-12 over their last four games, while the Coyotes (17th, 17.8 percent) are 1-for-23 in their last six contests.
                        2. Doughty, who leads Los Angeles in ice time at 28:01 per game, scored in the two games prior to the All-Star break.
                        3. Arizona has won three of the four meetings this season, including 3-2 in Glendale on Jan. 23 in the last encounter.
                        PREDICTION: Kings 3, Coyotes 2

                          Preview: San Jose at Anaheim
When: 10:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 2, 2016
                          Where: Honda Center, Anaheim, California
After a rough start to January, the San Jose Sharks finished it with a flourish to pull into second place in the Pacific Division. San Jose continues its charge toward the top Tuesday, when it kicks off a four-game road trip against the division-rival Anaheim Ducks.
The Sharks opened the new year with a pair of losses before beginning a point streak that reached double digits (8-0-2) with a 6-1 home triumph over Colorado last Tuesday in the club’s final game before the All-Star break. Anaheim also performed well last month, winning five of its final six contests to finish with a 7-3-1 record. Captain Ryan Getzlaf still has been unable to regain his goal-scoring touch, recording only three in 43 games, but has notched a team-leading 28 assists – including eight in his last eight contests. The Sharks and Ducks are wrapping up their four-game season series that already has featured three shutouts, with Anaheim posting a pair of 1-0 victories and San Jose registering a 2-0 triumph.
TV: 10 p.m. ET, CSN California (San Jose), Prime Ticket, FSN San Diego (Anaheim)
ABOUT THE SHARKS (26-18-4): Captain Joe Pavelski and defenseman Brent Burns represented San Jose at the All-Star Game, with the former scoring a goal and setting up another in the Pacific Division’s first-round triumph over the Central while the latter registered three assists in that contest before helping set up the lone tally in the championship game victory over the Atlantic. Pavelski, who has hit the 25-goal mark for the sixth time in his career, also leads the Sharks in points (49), power-play tallies (eight) and game-winners (league-high eight). Joe Thornton has gone seven contests without a goal but has notched at least one point in 10 straight games (two goals, 12 assists) and 18 of his last 19.
ABOUT THE DUCKS (22-18-7): Corey Perry notched two assists in the Pacific’s win over the Central before scoring the lone goal in the triumph over the Atlantic, while John Gibson recorded the victory in each contest, making seven saves en route to a combined shutout with Los Angeles’ Jonathan Quick in the title game after allowing three goals on 10 shots in the opener. Perry tops the club in goals (20), points (33) power-play tallies (six) and game-winners (three). Anaheim begins the second half ranked first in the NHL on the penalty kill with an 89.6 percent success rate.
                          OVERTIME
                          1. Patrick Marleau scored both goals for the Sharks over the first three meetings of the season series while Perry and Mark Santorelli tallied for the Ducks.
                          2. Anaheim has had 13 players combine to score 24 power-play goals, with Perry accounting for 25 percent of them.
                          3. San Jose has won four straight road games and is 6-1-2 in its last nine.
