NHL notebook: Sabres place Girgensons on IR

The Buffalo Sabres placed center Zemgus Girgensons on injured reserve Friday with an upper-body injury.
Girgensons, 22, has recorded eight points (three goals, five assists) and 10 penalty minutes in 40 games this season.
The Sabres also recalled forward Cal O'Reilly from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey league.
O'Reilly, 29, appeared in two games with the Sabres in December, logging one assist and a plus-1 rating. In 35 games with the Americans this season, he has 23 points (four goals, 19 assists) and four penalty minutes.
---The Edmonton Oilers placed defenseman Brandon Davidson on injured reserve.
Davidson, 24, exited Thursday night's 3-2 loss to the Dallas Stars with an undisclosed injury. He has recorded five points (two goals, three assists) and 18 penalty minutes in 34 games this season.
The Oilers also recalled defenseman Griffin Reinhart from the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL.
Reinhart, 21, has appeared in 14 games with Bakersfield this season, registering five points (one goal, four assists) and 12 penalty minutes. He has appeared in 12 games with the Oilers this season, posting eight penalty minutes.
---The San Jose Sharks activated forward Dainius Zubrus from the injured reserve list.
Zubrus, 37, was placed on injured reserve Jan. 13 because of a lower-back injury. He has one goal and one assist in 17 games this season.
The Sharks also reassigned forward Ben Smith to the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL.
Smith, 27, has appeared in six games with the Sharks this season, recording five hits, one blocked shot and one shot on goal. He has missed 25 games due to injury.
---The New York Rangers assigned forward Jayson Megna to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL.
Megna, 25, played in five games with the Rangers after being recalled on Jan. 4, recording one goal, one assist and two penalty minutes. He has played in 34 games with the Wolf Pack, registering 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) and 12 penalty minutes.
---The St. Louis Blues sent defenseman Andre Benoit to Chicago of the AHL.
Benoit, 32, has played in two games for the Blues this season. He has 25 points (four goals, 21 assists) in 37 games for Chicago.
