    Re: NHL Betting Info. 1/16

    Preview: Montreal at St. Louis
When: 7:00 PM ET, Saturday, January 16, 2016
Where: Scottrade Center, St. Louis, Missouri
The St. Louis Blues have been ravaged by injuries and could be without another of their top players when they host the skidding Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. Alexander Steen, the Blues’ second-leading scorer with 39 points, exited Thursday’s game after taking a stick to the mouth from teammate Kevin Shattenkirk to put his status in doubt for Saturday.
St. Louis had a modest two-game winning streak halted with a 4-1 setback versus visiting Carolina on Thursday to lose for the sixth time in eight games (2-3-3). Montreal’s offensive woes continued in a 2-1 loss to red-hot Chicago on Thursday and now faces a back-to-back against the Blues and Blackhawks over the weekend. The Canadiens are 4-14-0 over their last 18 games and have scored two goals or fewer 14 times in that span, but are hoping for the return of 11-goal scorer Dale Weise, who was hurt during the Winter Classic. Montreal blanked St. Louis 3-0 on Oct. 20 as part of its season-opening nine-game winning streak.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, NHL Network, TVA, SportsNet (Montreal), FSN Midwest (St. Louis)
ABOUT THE CANADIENS (23-18-3): Montreal made a minor deal that could have a major impact on the All-Star Game when it acquired forward John Scott and defenseman Victor Bartley as part of a three-team deal in exchange for defenseman Jarred Tinordi and forward Stefan Fournier. Journeyman Scott not only was voted to the All-Star team but was named the Pacific Division captain, prompting the league to announce it will review the deal as to how it impacts the Pacific roster. Coach Michel Therrien paired center Alex Galchenyuk with David Desharnais on Thursday and said he could stick with the alignment.
ABOUT THE BLUES (25-15-7): The absence of Steen would further deplete a lineup that is already missing starting netminder Jake Allen, defensemen Jay Bouwmeester and Carl Gunnarsson, and forwards Jaden Schwartz, Steve Ott, and Magnus Paajarvi. Coach Ken Hitchcock gave his team off following a flat effort in the loss to the Hurricanes. “We got nothing. We got nothing,” Hitchcock said after the loss. “We don’t have any energy. We’re running on fumes right now. You can get upset by it, but we’ve got to play a game on Saturday. We’ve got to focus on Saturday. We’ve got to find some energy.”
    OVERTIME
    1. C Tomas Plekanec, Montreal’s second-leading scorer, has one goal in his last 28 games.
    2. Blues G Brian Elliott is 4-3-1 with a 3.21 goals-against average versus Montreal.
    3. The Canadiens are 1-for-16 on the power play in 2016.
    PREDICTION: Canadiens 3, Blues 2

      Preview: Minnesota at Nashville
When: 8:00 PM ET, Saturday, January 16, 2016
      Where: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tennessee
The Nashville Predators look to snap a season-high five-game skid as they return home from a dismal road trip to host the Central Division-rival Minnesota Wild on Saturday. Nashville dropped all four games of its trek after falling to Winnipeg at home Jan. 5 and has lost seven of its last eight contests (1-5-2) to sink to sixth place in the Central — one point ahead of the cellar-dwelling Jets.
One bright spot for the Predators on their road trip was newcomer Ryan Johansen, who has recorded two goals and four assists in four contests since being acquired from Columbus. While Nashville is counting on the comforts of home to help it end its slide, Minnesota hopes taking to the road will be the answer to halting its losing streak. The Wild are kicking off a four-game trek of their own after a winless three-game homestand during which they scored a total of three goals, capped by a 1-0 shutout loss to Winnipeg on Friday. Nashville won two of its first three meetings with Minnesota this season, both by a 3-2 score.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN Tennessee (Nashville)
ABOUT THE WILD (22-14-8): Nate Prosser returned to the lineup Friday after missing three games with a hand injury. The 29-year-old defenseman blocked two shots and registered two hits in 10 minutes, 14 seconds of ice time. Blue-liner Ryan Suter, who is three points behind Zach Parise (33) for the team lead, has reached the 30-point plateau each of his last nine seasons.
ABOUT THE PREDATORS (19-17-8): Nashville swapped defensemen with Arizona on Friday, sending Victor Bartley to the Coyotes for Stefan Elliott. The 24-year-old Elliott recorded two goals and four assists in 19 games with Arizona this season and has collected eight tallies and 24 points in 82 career contests with Colorado and the Coyotes. James Neal ended his seven-game drought Thursday with his team-leading 16th goal, which also happened to be the 200th of his career.
      OVERTIME
      1. Johansen’s next point will be the 200th of his career.
      2. After scoring a career-high 24 goals in 80 games last season, Minnesota RW Nino Niederreiter has netted eight in 44 contests this campaign — none in his last eight.
      3. Nashville C Paul Gaustad is expected to appear in his 700th career contest.
      PREDICTION: Predators 4, Wild 2

        Preview: Calgary at Edmonton
When: 10:00 PM ET, Saturday, January 16, 2016
        Where: Rexall Place, Edmonton, Alberta
Although Calgary posted a franchise-best 11-game home winning streak earlier this season, the Flames have enjoyed a few good times when making the short trek to visit their provincial rival as well. Calgary vies for its eighth straight victory at Rexall Place on Saturday when it meets the Edmonton Oilers in the latest chapter of the Battle of Alberta.
Sam Bennett ended an 18-game goal drought in emphatic fashion, tallying in Monday’s 5-4 setback to San Jose before erupting for four goals two nights later in a 6-0 rout of red-hot Florida. “It’s a great feeling. It’s big for my confidence,” the 19-year-old Bennett said. “I knew I felt confident playing in this league and now I think I took another step in the right direction.” Cellar-dwelling Edmonton once again has found the wrong direction as it dropped its fourth straight decision and 11th in the last 14 games (3-8-3) on Thursday with a 2-1 shootout loss to San Jose. Taylor Hall has been held off the scoresheet in five straight contests, but collected two goals and five assists as Edmonton won one of the three meetings with Calgary this season.
TV: 10 p.m. ET, CBC, RSN
ABOUT THE FLAMES (20-20-2): Michael Frolik, who recorded a hat trick in Calgary’s 5-4 win over Edmonton on Oct. 31, is expected to return to the lineup on Saturday following a 12-game absence due to an upper-body injury. He likely will take the place of fellow forward Jiri Hudler, who experienced difficulty skating on Friday. “He was telling us he was good, but this morning getting on the ice, it was clear that it was not good,” coach Bob Hartley told the team website. “He wanted to go for a skate, and obviously after a while he told the trainers, ‘I just can’t go.'”
ABOUT THE OILERS (17-23-5): Nail Yakupov didn’t look the worse for wear on Thursday as he scored in his first game since missing seven weeks with a sprained ankle. “I thought he had a lot of energy,” coach Todd McLellan told the team’s website. “… I was impressed with him being able to play at the pace he did after being out as long as he was. Good for him.” Cam Talbot has also been impressive, although the results haven’t followed suit with just three wins in his last 10 despite a 1.90 goals-against average.
        OVERTIME
        1. Calgary LW Johnny Gaudreau, who has two goals and two assists on his three-game point streak, tallied twice in a 5-3 win over Edmonton on Dec. 27.
        2. Oilers C Leon Draisaitl, who has one goal and three assists versus the Flames this season, has tallied just once in his last 16 games.
        3. Flames D T.J. Brodie will play in his 300th career contest on Saturday.
        PREDICTION: Flames 4, Oilers 3

          Preview: Dallas at San Jose
When: 10:30 PM ET, Saturday, January 16, 2016
Where: SAP Center at San Jose, San Jose, California
The Dallas Stars attempt to reclaim first place in the Central Division less than 24 hours after relinquishing it when they continue their California road trip against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. Dallas kicked off its trek in Anaheim on Friday with its second straight loss and fifth in six games this month, falling two points behind Chicago in the Central in the process.
Despite the team’s struggles, captain Jamie Benn appears to be heating up as he has scored in each of his last two contests following a four-game drought. San Jose looks to extend its winning streak to five games after edging Edmonton in a shootout Thursday in the opener of its three-game homestand. Joe Thornton has been scorching hot for the Sharks, collecting five goals and 12 assists while landing on the scoresheet in 12 of his last 13 games. Dallas posted a 5-3 home victory over San Jose on Oct. 31 as Antti Niemi made 26 saves in his first game against his former team.
TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Dallas), CSN California (San Jose)
ABOUT THE STARS (29-12-4): Dallas has struggled on the road of late, going 0-4-2 since winning in Minnesota on Dec. 21. Coach Lindy Ruff spoke bluntly when describing his team’s effort against the Ducks in its first game in six days. “We’ll win when we deserve to win,” he told reporters. “We didn’t deserve to win. Didn’t compete hard enough. … The whole league is pretty well in playoff mode, except for us.”

          ABOUT THE SHARKS (22-18-2):
Brent Burns leads all NHL defensemen with 18 goals — four shy of his career high set in 2013-14. The 30-year-old ranks second on the team in scoring as he has reached the 40-point plateau third straight season and fifth in his career. Patrick Marleau is third on the club with 14 goals but has gone seven games without one.
          OVERTIME
          1. The Sharks are 7-0-0 when scoring first at home.
          2. Dallas LW Patrick Sharp looks to begin a new point streak after having his 12-gamer snapped Friday.
          3. San Jose captain Joe Pavelski leads the league with seven game-winning goals.
          PREDICTION: Stars 5, Sharks 3

              Grand Salami – January
              By VI News
The Grand Salami in pro hockey is decided by adding up all the goals scored in every game scheduled for that particular day. You can wager on ‘over’ or ‘under’ the Grand Salami total. The total is set by adding up all listed ‘over/under’ odds for each game on that particular day.
Note: The Grand Salami will have no action if any game is suspended or cancelled before the regulation time of three twenty minute periods. Also, regardless of the number of goals scored during the shoot out portion of the overtime, the final scored recorded for the game will give the winning team on more goal than its opponent based on the score at the end of regulation time.
*The majority of sportsbooks do not put out a total on the Grand Salami when there is only one game on the card. For tracking purposes, we will continue to show the ‘over/under’ for goals and combined goals scored on days with just one game.
