    At the Gate - Friday
    By Mike Dempsey

The Road to the Kentucky Derby takes a stop in the Bayou on Saturday with a full field lined up to go one mile and 70 yards in the $200,000 Lecomte (G3).

The race offers up 10-4-2-1 Derby points toward entry into the Run for the Roses, now just 113 days away.

The Lecomte is the first of three Derby points races at Fair Grounds. Coming up on Feb. 20 is the $400,000 Risen Star (G2) and then the marquee event of the meeting is the $1 million Louisiana Derby (G2) on March 26.

Trainer Tom Amoss will saddle the morning line favorite Mo Tom (7-2), who ran third in the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) in his last outing. The runner up Mor Spirit came out of that race to win the Los Alamitos Futurity (G1) in his next outing and is currently the second choice at 8-1 in Kentucky Derby future wagering at Sportsbook.ag.

It is anyone’s guess who else in the 14-horse field will take betting action. Fish Trappe Road (6-1) is coming off a runner up finish in the Sleepy Hollow at Belmont Park and steps out of the comfy confines of state bred company.

Mike Maker sends out Uncle Walter (6-1) who was beaten a head last out against first level optional claimers at Churchill Downs earning a solid speed figure.

Todd Pletcher sends out Destin (6-1) who was second against first level optional claimers in his last outing, and Tom’s Ready (5-1) fits if he gets in off the also-eligible list. His best effort was a second in the Street Sense Stakes back in November.

Here is today’s opener from Gulfstream Park to get the day off to a good start:

    GP Race 1 Md $50,000 (12:35 ET)
    #1 Casting Couch 6-1
    #2 Lucent Lady 5-2
    #4 Sweetwater 3-1
    #6 Charming Fantasy 4-1

Analysis: Casting Couch tracked the early pace and finished up well for the runner up spot on turf, unable to catch a winner who got the jump on her heading for home. She was fifth in her debut and note she took on the boys in that outing. She now goes on the main track and it would be a plus if the track comes up wet as she is bred top and bottom to handle the off going. She is out of the stakes winner Citi Charisse ($89,930), her first foal to race.

Lucent Lady dueled for the early lead and finished gamely in a runner up finish, beaten 3/4 of a length for the top spot for this tag over a wet track in a race washed off the turf. She earned the top last out speed fig for the Nicks barn that is having a good meeting. She is out of the stakes winner Elusive Lady ($358,162).

    Wagering
WIN: #1 to win at 4-1 or better.
    EX: 1,2 / 1,2,4,6
    TRI: 1,2 / 1,2,4,6 / 1,2,4,5,6

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Gulfstream Park:

    GP Race 8 Alw $44,000N1X (4:05 ET)
    #5 Flatlined 10-1
    #8 Morning Dancer 4-1
    #1 Securtitiz 7-2
    #3 Thundergram 3-1

Analysis: Flatlined was a game maiden winner last out on grass here in his fifth career start. He makes his third start off the bench here and returns to the main track. He ran pretty well in the mud last April in his second career start, a third place finish at Prairie Meadows. By Flatter out of an Unbridled's Song mare, he should like the off going. Not a real imposing spot for his first go against winners and we should catch a fair price.

Morning Dancer weakened to finish fourth in his U.S. debut which came off a 14 month layoff. He ran second in a Group 2 in Chile in his second career start. Tough how good this guy might be, but it's Pletcher and Johnny V so we will figure this guy should improve off his last outing.

    Wagering
WIN: #5 to win at 9-2 or better.
    EX: 5,8 / 1,3,5,8
    TRI: 5,8 / 1,3,5,8 / 1,2,3,5,8

    Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

    Gulfstream Park
    R2: #7 Reckless Move 8-1
    R3: #9 Starship Menace 8-1
    R4: #1 Aoleon 12-1
    R5: #7 February Rose 10-1
    R6: #7 Prime Time Tommy 12-1
    R8: #5 Flatlined 10-1
    R9: #2 Prove 15-1
    R11: #12 Calm 20-1
    R11: #10 Marriage Material 12-1

    Good luck today!

    Woodbine Harness: Friday 1/15 Analysis
    By Garnet Barnsdale

    DRF HARNESS

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

    20-CENT PICK 5: 4/6,7,8/1,7/1,3,9/2,3,4,5,6,8 = $21.60

    EARLY PICK 4: 1,3,9/2,3,4,5,6,8/1,3,5/1 = $54

    LATE PICK 4: 1,4,8/4,8,9/3,7,10/3,4

    MEET STATS: 192 - 584 / $1035.80 BEST BETS: 30 - 53 / $102.60

    SPOT PLAYS: 16 - 53 / $183.80

Best Bet: SHADES OF BAY (1st)

    Spot Play: FIVE BELOW (10th)

    Race 1

    (4) SHADES OF BAY was an easy winner in the opening leg of this series and returning to a 7-day cycle will likely make him even tougher; top call. (2) THREE TRUTHS got embroiled in some serious early battling in his Woodbine debut then took a late shuffle. He should get a better trip here. (1) BROWN DIRT COWBOY gets slices 66% of the time and should grab a share here.

    Race 2

    (6) MAPPOS MOENHAY moves into the top trainer's barn off the claim and she fits well in this class. (7) DONTTELLRUSS has raced well in her last two now comes up tagged here. She too fits this class and will likely be sent hard early by McNair. (5) ADAYMER SEELSTER drops into a claimer and isn't out of this.

    Race 3

    (7) RAFA has come back from a break in top shape and remains unbeaten. He will be tough to knock off here. (1) TOWER OF POWER raced well for 2nd behind a sharp winner and looks like the main danger. (6) SWAPPORTUNITY rarely misses the board and is a good one to toss on exotic wagers.

    Race 4

    (9) WHITEGLANCE looks much the best on paper here and may get a more aggressive steer to get position early. (1) IN THE SHADOWS drops to a level where she should wake up and produce a better effort. (3) TWIN B BREEZEWAY raced okay for third last time but might be overbet off that following trip.

    Race 5

    (6) MONTEZUMA BLUE CHIP drops in for a tag here and projects to get a good trip chasing quick splits; slight nod in a wide-open race. (8) JET AIRLINER is in great form and will likely bring a big price here on the class rise; using. (2) PIER HO TEMPTATION drops back to the class where he last won and gets the driver back that steered him to victory that night. Can history repeat?

    Race 6

    (5) SILENCE SON was sent hard last time then let one go that was taking a big class drop and followed her home. Expect an all-out speed try by A Mac here. (3) CAL CHIPS BROTHER is an infrequent winner but raced well last week and looks like one of the best ones in here. (1) UPFRONTLUCKYCAROL should race better here aided by post relief.

    Race 7

    (1) MUCH ADOO should enjoy getting away from Wanda Bayama here and likely controls things after making a move to the front on the backside after the dust settles. (6) SHOW SOME LEG is capable of much better and likely gets asked to make her move earlier starting from the middle of the gate here. (4) JORDIES HOPE went a tough first-over trip last week which isn't her trip. She could do here if she rides in the pocket of the choice most of the way.

    Race 8

    (1) MEGO MOSS went a big first-up trip last week only to be repelled by a huge favorite that was dropping several classes. A repeat of that effort gets the job done here. (4) R CHOOCHO CHARLIE faces easier than he did in a claiming handicap last week and should be tough in here. (8) ELDORADO OF GOLD looks best of the rest in what is mostly a weak bottom-level conditioned field.

    Race 9

Both (8) DOCS HOLLYWOOD and (9) WILDCAT MAGIC closed well vs. a better field last time and should contend here. Nod to the former who has a better win record. (4) MARY CELESTE raced well at a huge price last time and could surprise here off a following trip from close range.

    Race 10

    (3) FIVE BELOW made an eye-catching move two back then was on too much slow-moving cover last week. This one's ready to pop soon; sticking with him. (10) DEMAND AN ANSWER raced well on the engine and is sharp but must overcome this post. (7) HILLSONATOR was an impressive winner off a break but took a big breather in the third 1/4. He won't be afforded that luxury here.

    Race 11

    (4) RUBIS PRESCOTT drops to the lowest level here and should get the job done vs. these. (3) NINETTE B gets Henry back and they have done good things together in the past. She has a chance to upset here. (6) TRUE REFLECTION dropped to the lowest level last week and took lots of action but disappointed. She could rebound here returning to a 7-day cycle. (7) TABOO SEELSTER should be passing many of these late for a share. (9) CALL IT COURAGE rarely wins but almost always shares at this level.

      Meadowlands: Friday 1/15 Analysis
      By Derick Giwner

      DRF HARNESS

Race 3 - $30,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool

Race 5 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Race 9 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

      MEET STATS: 64 - 215 / $340.10 BEST BETS: 8 - 16 / $28.30

Best Bet: TWO HIP DIP (5th)

Spot Play: TWIN B ELITE (12th)

      Race 1

There isn’t much to love about any of the combatants in the opener. (3) BJANTHONY missed two and a half months but came back with a couple of decent qualifiers that should have him ready. Driver Napolitano has been good at pulling off upsets this meet. (4) LOVIN KARMA makes her first start for a new barn and has displayed some past success on a bigger track. (5) GARLAND OF BELLES didn’t exactly blow me away in her qualifier, but that race went quicker than they will probably go tonight; usable. (9) APOSTLES CREED seems like the probably favorite on the Takter/Gingras angle. At 1 for 18 lifetime he is hard to like, but he is in the sale Monday and could be looking to show off.

      Race 2

      (6) OPULENT YANKEE left and made a costly break between foes on the first turn. I’ll stay here and hope for a clean line and easy road to the top. (3) CASH ME OUT gets a better post to work with this week and should be closer to the leaders. (7) UVA HANOVER worked out a perfect trip and did the rest a week ago; clear contender.

      Race 3

      (3) RIGHTLY SAID moves into the Russo barn and catches a relatively blank field. (2) LEXUS ARTIST has been stuck with outside posts more often than not of late. She doesn’t win often but this looks like a great spot. (1) ANTY ENTITY qualified okay and can only be hlped by having Gingras in the bike. (9) DAY TO PONDER was locked in with no place to stretch her legs last time. I give her a shot but fear she’ll be overbet.

      Race 4

      (9) AGGRESSIVE drops down a class along with a couple of others. This guy has picks up Tetrick upon arrival from Canada and seems to have his act together after mixing breaks with success last winter. It doesn’t hurt that he is listed to sell as HIP 197 on Monday. (4) STITCH IN TIME is one of the others moving down the ladder. His recent races haven’t been that bad. (1) FOX VALLEY LEGEND is super right now, but I worry about the inside draw on a horse that does his best work from behind. (3) SCORCHER HALL is capable of putting up a strong mile.

      Race 5

      (4) TWO HIP DIP rallied reasonably well from the back in his first start since June. He draws better now and seems to be in against a slightly softer group. (1) NEVER EVER CLEVER is another making her second start off the bench. I expect to see some improvement. (5) XTATIC HANOVER gets some post relief after taking plenty of air last time.

      Race 6

      (5) CLEAR VIEW HANOVER wasn’t that bad last Friday and should be helped by the addition of Tetrick in the bike. (6) CAPELA comes off a good mile and will make his last start for Team Burke this week before selling Monday. (4) AMERICAN TRUTH is another in the sale. Switch to the Miller barn is interesting since Team Miller has been hot of late. (2) MISSSOMEBEACH BLUE split foes nicely but had every chance to win last time.

      Race 7

      (2) HOT TYPE ships in from The Meadows for Burke to put in his final start before Monday’s sale. His form is good enough to compete and he has proven to be plenty fast enough to win. (8) PARIS PRINCESS N put in a decent effort in his U.S. debut and can take another step forward now. (5) DANISH DURANGO has put together a string of good races for Meadowlands operator Jeff Gural. He should race well again. (1) WORTH THE MONEY AS drops back down and deserves a look at least underneath.

      Race 8

      (7) GO BYEM ships in from Dover on a three-race win streak. Perhaps he can follow in the footsteps of Bushwacker, who made a similar trek up I95 and found success in the Open ranks. (2) ITS HUW YOU KNOW added hobbles and raced well in his recent qualifier. I expect he’ll take tote action and perhaps pop a big mile. (3) CINCINNATI MISS has been on a hot streak over the last two months; obvious player.

      Race 9

      (3) B YOYO had all kinds of trouble and trotted home willingly a week ago. Let’s give him another shot assuming he offers fair value. (6) ALLERAGE STAR flashed big speed en route to a near lifetime best mile; must use. (5) CRAZSHANA qualified well as he looks to get a mile under his belt before the sale. Smedshammer trainees have been racing well of late.

      Race 10

      (5) TESSA SEELSTER had some shaky moments early in her qualifying mile but righted the ship and came up game for a nice victory. I’d expect some minor equipment tinkering will fix her issues and she’ll be ready to roll first time in the Burke barn. (2) GWENEEEE J comes off a sharp score and is a talented mare that could keep improving. (3) NOT BEFORE EIGHT didn’t exactly have things her way last time out; reunites with Zeron. (7) ALIBI SEELSTER upset in this class two starts back; in the sale Monday.

      Race 11

      (7) BIG BANG HANOVER raced evenly in his first start since June and now gets to face easier. (1) MONEY ON MY MIND hasn’t raced in over two months but still appears to be the one to beat against a field without much form. (6) MACK’S GOLD BAND is back in for the price he was claimed on November 15; turns it around? (5) INDEPENDENCE AS gets in against softer in just his third start in a year.

      Race 12

      (4) TWIN B ELITE wasn’t going very far from post 10 after missing four weeks of action. He has a triple threat of angles this week—2nd start back, post relief & drops in class. (8) EXOTIC BEACH finished steadily from the back despite starting from post 10; driver switch to Campbell. (1) UP FRONT KELLIE JO has been racing well enough to use underneath at a decent price.

      Race 13

I’ve been waiting for (10) SPICE IT UP LINDY to get this class drop, though I was hoping for a decent post to go with it. With new driver John Campbell in the bike, I have faith that the trip will work out. (1) MAJESTIC STONE hasn’t raced in five weeks, which is of serious concern. That said, this field lacks much form and we are getting a nice driver change to Tetrick. (9) LONG STORY SHORT romped when last seen at Saratoga, but that was 36 days ago.

      Race 14

      (5) THAT WOMAN HANOVER gets a huge driver change to Yannick Gingras and should respond accordingly. (8) BETTOR CHILL OUT put in a nice bid before tiring last time and now gets class relief. (7) SIR LEHIGH Z TAM has been racing well at this level. (2) GAME OF DREAMERS is another sharp horse to consider.

        Yonkers: Friday 1/15 Analysis
        By Brewster Smith

        DRF HARNESS

        MEET STATS: 9 - 46 / $83.70 BEST BETS: 0 - 4 / $00.00

        Best Bet: AUTOMATIC SLIMS (5th)

        Spot Play: MAJOR DANCER (4th)

        Race 1

        (3) WAYNE THE LEFTY was used hard to grab the lead early but when it came to crunch time turning for home, there was no gas left in the tank; big threat. (5) SODYS MOONSHINE showed good early foot and has been in the trifecta in his last five tries. (7) OR second best in his last three starts, so clearly he is knocking at the door.

        Race 2

        (4) EXHILARATED made her return to Yonkers in fine fashion, sitting a 3-hole trip, tipped outside with dead aim on the leaders to miss glory by only 3/4's of a length; big player. (5) LITTLE SANTAMONICA was quite dull in her latest, but was late on the scene to nail down the placing two starts back. (2) ELISAVETA N Mild rally in her most recent outing; now gets post relief and that should help her cause.

        Race 3

        (2) THE EMPIRESSISTER 2016 debut was quite strong; last out at Dover, this mare rallied from far back to nail down the place spot. Returns to the half-mile oval where she put in a solid performance two trips ago; ready to greet the cameraman for pictures. (2) ELLA V HORSE comes by way of Saratoga facing open foes and receives the rail slot tonight. (4) SEEKING NIRVANA was in the pocket most of the way but could not seal the deal to miss by a neck recently.

        Race 4

        (5) MAJOR DANCER took charge right from the bell; it seems she was on her way to greet the cameraman for pictures but was run down in the final strides by Bazooka Terror last out; can make amends. (2) KAITLYN RAE moves back inside where she has done her best running. (1) CANACO STAR retains the rail slot; when last time around she took the pocket route home for glory.

        Race 5

        (4) AUTOMATIC SLIMS was sent by Bartlett down the road and was all alone at the wire. Another performance like his latest is not out of the question. (3) LUCKY TIMES has wheeled off two straight victories upstate; fits well with these so he can make some serious noise. (5) TOUCH THE ROCK Very game for the victory via the pocket route recently.

        Race 6

        (6) REGIL ELEKTRA forged to the front in her 2016 debut and led every step of the way for all the marbles; poised to take another. (3) BAZOOKA TERROR Pacing mare is on quite a roll scoring her fourth straight victory. (2) ROCKN RUBY N has been solid in her last three starts and that puts her right in the mix with these.

        Race 7

        (2) MC DYNAMITE has put in two sharp efforts indicating she is knocking at the winner circle's door; a forward move is not out of the cards. (3) SAMS ESCAPE's easy score down the pike last time out makes this guy a true contender. (1) SIGN TO INVERELL A could get involved with a favorable trip.

        Race 8

        (6) ONTHECLOCK HANOVER Consistent gelding drops a notch and maybe he will have enough gas in the tank to seek glory; we shall see. (4) SUPERBOWL PARTY has put in three nice efforts, so this guy can be a factor in the outcome. (1) INTHEPERFECTSTORM moves to the fence seeking to move forward; in his last try, he was a very game second.

        Race 9

        (3) ARTIST NIGHT flashed speed for most of the way last out but faltered in the final stretch run. With a return to his December 5th trip, he will run these off their feet. (1) JD'S CALEB MAN has proven he can run at this level and could make some serious noise. (2) GALLANT SEELSTER in his latest, he was late on the scene to nail down the placing.

        Race 10

        (5) SO NICE Solid effort for her 2016 debut when she showed good speed and held on the land the third spot; at her best, she can boss these. (6) MEDUSA Quite tough at this level, missing the score last week by a nose. (1) STORMUNN two game efforts in a row makes this gal a true contender against these.

        Race 11

Will take a shot with (7) NARCIAN JEWEL. Mare gets class relief and Kakaley is keeping the faith with this five-year-old. She can sweep them off their feet with a fine-timed drive. (3) EYRE HOSTESS N Hopefully the escalation in class can help her cause; maybe. (4) PERSUASIVE HANOVER Pennsylvania invader has tactical speed so the half mile oval could make her a factor; watch out.
