lands in the softest spot since breaking his maiden vs special weights 4 starts back..returning quicker than he has in his past few starts and trainer is having a terrific meet at churchill..santana excellent turf rider..horse cost 37k so up for 40k is not a concern for me

guess who originally owned this horse.. coached a couple of super bowl winners.. changed hands quite a few times since then via the claim..big mistake as this is a rugged, solid 5yo horse (not gelding) with 9 wins in 23 starts and has amassed almost $350k in earnings.. picked the right name .. this is a 50k stakes race for NY breds.. could see him having a future as a cheap ny stallion

was a decent day overall fraoli.. belmont stakes saturday as you probably know.. great betting race this year and like a couple of price horses .. undercard always super also ... put up a separate thread thursday or friday with my plays for the stakes..

looking over this race for a while and realized I was listening to queen's album jazz while doing it.. cinched it.. like the horse anyway.. if no 3's today I'm in trouble..funny only race I skipped is 3

2yo debuter is out of a listed stakes winning dam who in her debut in may at calder lost by a nose as a 2 year old.. 5 winners from as many starters including 2 stakes winners and all who tried as a 2yo won.. freshman sire retired 2/2 and the maiden breaker was from the 14 post at gulfstream as a 3yo..researched this not just written somewhere



didn't like what I saw at indiana and the rest of this card.. probably it for the day.. lots of good stuff next few days

1. Joevia, 30-1 (Gregg Sacco/Jose Lezcano): Sacco's options were simple. Stay at Monmouth Park and face Maximum Security for a $150,000 purse, or take on this assignment for a share of $1.5 million? This colt figures to show speed and recovered from a disastrous Wood Memorial (G2) showing last time, winning the Long Branch Stakes.

2. Everfast, 12-1 (Dale Romans/Luis Saez): The surprising, late-running Preakness Stakes runner-up will look to improve on Romans' Belmont record. The trainer has four third-place finishes in this race, but none better than that. This looks like another board-hitting type if he can stay consistent.

3. Master Fencer, 8-1 (Koichi Tsunoda/Julien Leparoux): Japan's foreign invader is eligible for a $1 million winning bonus and, as with a few others, will be looking to close late. He ran up the rail to pick off all but six horses in the Kentucky Derby at long odds. A stumble in a rent work and subsequent X-rays have quelled enthusiasm since then.

4. Tax, 15-1 (Danny Gargan/Irad Ortiz Jr.): One who showed little when 14th in the Kentucky Derby, he figures to sit close to the pace and has showcased tactical speed since claimed by Gargan. But connections also considered not entering when Tax's final work didn't meet standards. Turns out he's healing up from a foot bruise.

5. Bourbon War, 12-1 (Mark Hennig/Mike Smith): In a failed experiment, this known deep closer donned blinkers in the Preakness Stakes and didn't factor, finishing eighth. The equipment comes off here, while he sports obvious class having competed in Gulfstream Park's Kentucky Derby preps.

6. Spinoff, 15-1 (Todd Pletcher/Javier Castellano): Pletcher says the sloppy surface played a part in an 18th-place Kentucky Derby finish when this colt did little running. Connections will be looking more for the effort seen in the Louisiana Derby (G2), when Spinoff had a head in front in the stretch before finishing second.

7. Sir Winston, 12-1 (Mark Casse/Joel Rosario): He delivered a visually impressive closing effort to be second in the Peter Pan (G3), giving the barn two contenders in this race. The "other" Casse, as he'll be, Sir Winston improved after missing the board in two Grade 2 Kentucky Derby preps. He has the benefit of local training.

8. Intrepid Heart, 10-1 (Todd Pletcher/John Velazquez): The half-brother of 2014 Belmont runner-up Commissioner also has Tapit as a sire, making him, breeding-wise, a perfect fit for this race. But the colt will be making only his fourth start and enters off a flat effort when third in the local Peter Pan Stakes (G3) as a prep.

9. War of Will, 2-1 (Mark Casse/Tyler Gaffalione): You could argue the Preakness Stakes winner is the one to beat here based on what he's done, and not what Tacitus is expected to do. In two dirt defeats War of Will has a mild injury in the Louisiana Derby (G2) and interference in the Kentucky Derby as legitimate excuses. Will he "WoW" again?

10. Tacitus, 9-5 (Bill Mott/Jose Ortiz): Sons of Tapit have won three of the last five Belmonts, otherwise known as each year without a Triple Crown winner since 2013. Tacitus parlayed his grinding running style into a third-place Kentucky Derby finish, and connections are hoping he can do a few better given an extra quarter mile to run.
