    One Shining Moment
It's a tradition that dates back 35 years but almost didn't come to be.

"One Shining Moment" was written by David Barrett, Barrett wrote the song in March of 1986.

After writing the song in March of 1986 David Barrett, a singer-songwriter from Ann Arbor, MI. recorded a demo of and sent the tape to a friend that worked at Sports Illustrated. Barrett's friend then brought the demo to CBS, where an executive from CBS Sports fell in love with the song and received Barrett's clearance to play it at the conclusion of Super Bowl 21 in 1987.

As Super Bowl 21 ran over airtime, the song was not played, prompting CBS to again ask Barrett for clearance to play "One Shining Moment" at the conclusion of the 1987 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship Game.

The first-ever "One Shining Moment" montage featured highlights from the tournament and concluded with highlights of Indiana's national championship win, resulting in overwhelmingly positive feedback.

    >From there, it became an annual tradition.

We'll share our thoughts in this year's NCAA Championship Game in tomorrow's Coffee Club.

Saturday's Duke-UNC game was hyped as one of the biggest games ever — and it somehow exceeded expectations. The Tar Heels won, 81-77, in an instant classic that will be talked about for generations.

By the numbers: UNC's win not only endedMike Krzyzewski's career — it also evened their head-to-head record during the Coach K era at 50-50 – a record that was meant to be. Truly unbelievable.

One personal note in passing: I taught myself long ago how to remember the spelling of Coach K's name. Think of it as "crazy zewski" – except crazy with a K and without the A.

Here are the NFL power rankings by Nate Davis of the USA TODAY as teams shift focus from free agency to upcoming 2022 draft. To no one's surprise last year's Super Bowl combatants occupy the top two spots ...

    1. LA RAMS: They've lost a few key cogs from the Super Bowl 56 lineup – OLB Von Miller, LT Andrew Whitworth, WR Odell Beckham Jr, - and traded WR Robert Woods before signing Allen Robinson. But it happens just about annually to defending champs.

    2. CINCINNATI: They've done such a good job upgrading QB Joe Burrow's protection during free agency – La'el Collins, Alex Cappa, Ted Karras – that they've opened up their draft options ... and Cincinnati has quietly been one of the league's better talent evaluators in recent years.
