    On Today's Scorecard
    Scorched Earth
An astounding 12 of 14 Southeastern Conference teams went bowling last season (Texas A&M earned a bowl bid but was stymied by COVID) as the SEC continued its domination in the world of college football.

At the epicenter was Georgia, who won its first National Championship in 41 years when they tripped up favored Alabama in the CFB Playoff title game.

Expect the Tide to apply Nick Saban's 'Scorched Earth' tactic, based on athletic superiority, throughout much of the season. Yes, after being scuttled 33-18 by Georgia in the NCAA Playoff Championship Game last season, they will be on a mission in 2022.

For Alabama, it's the seventh time in the past 13 seasons it has started the season at No. 1. But only once have the Crimson Tide hoisted the championship trophy after receiving the preseason's top ranking.

    Walking On Water
Auburn head coach Brian Harsin had a great thing going at Boise State, but he seemed like a fish out of water when taking over down on The Plains.

With Tigers AD Allen Greene on the way out at Auburn, it appears Harsin's days could be numbered.

Harsin was the guy Greene hired out of left field to be Auburn's next football coach.

Greene was essentially forced out by the dysfunctional coup that is the Auburn boosters, including Charles Barkley, et al. This is the same collection of millionaires who tried to force Greene's hire in Harsin out after only one season.

After going 6-7 in his first season on the job, including a bad loss to Houston in the nearby Birmingham Bowl, Harsin will essentially need to walk on water to get a third year on the job.
    Grinding Out The Profits
    Knock 3 Times
From the Playbook preseason football newsletter: NFL preseason "Hard Knocks" teams – the Detroit Lions today - are 1-11-1 ATS since 2002 if they won three or more preseason games last season.

After suffering a potential playoff-costly 16-16 "tie" to the Lions last season, expect the Steelers to tame the Lions today.
