ESPN's Field Yates reports Cam Newton (reserve/COVID-19) is expected to practice with the Patriots on Thursday.
It'll put Newton on track to play Week 6 against the Broncos after he missed Week 4 with the virus and the Patriots had Week 5 postponed and pushed back to this week.

Dalvin Cook (groin) is not practicing Wednesday.
This doesn't come as a surprise. It's already been reported that Cook is not expected to play this week against the Falcons, but Cook isn't ready to rule himself out, saying he's taking things day by day.

Sam Darnold (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 6.
Darnold said Monday he still "feels pain" in his throwing shoulder. He'll miss his second straight game with an AC joint sprain, leaving Joe Flacco to make another start. The Jets have been cautious with Darnold, but he looks on track for a Week 7 return.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Jets released Le'Veon Bell.
Bell and coach Adam Gase have had multiple public feuds. This most recent one surrounding his playing time was the tipping point. The Jets were shopping Bell on the trading block all day Tuesday, but there were unsurprisingly no takers. New York likely would've had to eat a large chunk of his salary to get even a Day 3 pick in return. Instead, Bell will hit free agency heading into Week 6.

Jarvis Landry (hip, ribs) is questionable for Week 6 against the Steelers.
Although Landry's ribs injury didn't pop up until mid-week, he's fully expected to be available against Pittsburgh.

Broncos RB Melvin Gordon was not seen at practice Friday.
Broncos beat writers reported not seeing Gordon among the team's running backs during Friday's practice. Gordon was held out of Wednesday's session following his Tuesday drunk-driving arrest. Head coach Vic Fangio said there would be "some consequences" for Gordon after his DUI. It remains unclear exactly what that will be.

The Patriots cancelled Friday's practice after another positive COVID-19 test.
The Patriots got Cam Newton back from the COVID-19 list this week. They're now dealing with at least one more positive test, potentially putting Sunday's matchup with Denver in jeopardy. It's possible this gets flexed to Monday or Tuesday. The Patriots and Broncos are both coming off byes after the NFL cancelled their Week 6 game.

Colts owner Jim Irsay said the team plans to play Sunday's game with the Bengals.
The Colts had one player and three staff members with false positive COVID-19 tests. Barring any new developments, Indy's Week 6 game will go on as scheduled.

ESPN's Adam Teicher reports the Chiefs hope Le'Veon Bell will be cleared to practice by next Wednesday.
Ordinarily, Bell could practice the day he signs. In the COVID era, he needs five straight days of negative tests, and is then eligible to practice if he's negative on a sixth day "point of contact" test. Provided Bell can avoid getting the virus between now and next Wednesday, he will get in a full slate of practices ahead of the Chiefs' game with the Broncos.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Drew Lock (shoulder) is expected to play Week 6 against the Patriots.
Lock could be at less than full healthy. Even if he was fully ready, Lock faces a strong Patriots passing defense without a few of his primary pass catchers. Noah Fant, K.J. Hamler, and Melvin Gordon are all out.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports D.J. Chark (ankle) is expected to play Week 6 against the Lions.
Schefter notes the team will be testing Chark's ankle in pregame warmups before making a final decision, but he's now on the right side of questionable.

Sammy Watkins (hamstring) is out for Week 6 against the Bills.
Watkins is week to week but is expected to dodge the injured reserve, which would've guaranteed Watkins would miss at least three games.

Odell Beckham (questionable, illness) has been cleared for Week 6 against the Steelers.
Beckham is back with the team after his second negative COVID test. He took part in Saturday's walkthrough and is expected to play this week.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Washington QB Dwayne Haskins is expected to be inactive in Week 6 against the Giants.
Kyle Allen will get the start for a second straight week after missing some time in Week 5 with a shoulder injury. Alex Smith will back him up with Haskins inactive.

Chark barely practiced this week, but the Jags are running him out there for this potential shootout.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Dalvin Cook (groin) is expected to return in Week 8 against the Packers.
Pelissero added that his source said there is a "99.999 percent chance" that Cook returns in Week 8 to face the Packers. Minnesota has a Week 7 bye so Cook will have ample time to rest and recover. Alexander Mattison will draw the start this week.
