  • Rockies and Nolan Arenado are nearing an eight-year contract extension

This confirms what was reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today, though the numbers are slightly different. Passan was perhaps able to confirm details of the eighth year in the deal. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the deal is for $260 million. Either way, Arenado is looking at the largest AAV (average annual value) of any position player, at $32.5 million, beating out Miguel Cabrera at $31 million. Zack Greinke ($34,416,666) has the highest AAV of any player. Arenado will also get an opt-out after the third year as part of the reported extension, as well as a full-no trade clause (according to Rosenthal).
