Jaguars hired Doug Marrone as their new head coach.
Marrone didn't make many friends during his failed stint in Buffalo, but he interim-coached the Jaguars to two of their best efforts in Weeks 16-17 and seemed to do a better job of harnessing Blake Bortles and feeding Allen Robinson, albeit against the weak defenses of Tennessee and Indianapolis. Marrone seems to have the full support of the Jaguars' locker room. Marrone signed a three-year deal along with new VP of Football Operations Tom Coughlin's three-year pact.

ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton "could see a scenario" where Carolina releases Jonathan Stewart this offseason.
Stewart has two years left on his contract and will turn 30 in March. He's coming off three-year lows in rushing yards (824) and YPC (3.8), but Stewart rand behind an injury-ravage line, still scored nine touchdowns, and ran extremely hard, finishing third in Pro Football Focus' elusive rating, which factors in broken tackles.

Bills hired Sean McDermott as their new head coach.
While both have defensive backgrounds, McDermott seems to be about the polar opposite of his predecessor, Rex Ryan. McDermott isn't bringing the flash and flare to Buffalo only to see empty promises follow. The 43-year-old (in March) has been a defensive coordinator for the past eight seasons, working under Andy Reid and legendary DC Jim Johnson in Philadelphia before becoming Ron Rivera's right-hand man in Carolina.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Chargers will announce "by as early as Thursday" that they are moving to Los Angeles.
The Chargers spent the last 55 years in San Diego. A source did insist to Schefter that "nothing is final," as owner Dean Spanos has yet to send a relocation letter to the NFL or tell the City of San Diego that a move is imminent. Still, the Chargers look poised to join the Rams in L.A. after trying to get a stadium approved in San Diego for the last 16 years, and ultimately failing. Per Schefter, Spanos "believes he needs to start fighting for the Los Angeles market as soon as possible."

          Packers released RB James Starks.
Starks has been let go with the "non-football injury" designation. It's an inglorious end to Starks' seven years in Green Bay, and comes after he missed the final six games of the season with a concussion suffered in a car accident. That's how the Pack were able to apply the "NFI" tag. A purely complementary back, Starks can do a little bit of everything, but has mastered nothing. He turns 31 later this month. His phone is not going to be ringing off the hook once he's cleared from his concussion. With Eddie Lacy a free agent, the Packers could be embarking on a complete remaking of their backfield.

            Packers released CB Sam Shields.
Shields made the announcement on Instagram. It was an easy move for the Packers due to Shields' recurrence of severe concussions and $12.125 million cap number, $9 million of which now comes off Green Bay's books. Shields suffered his latest concussion in Week 1 and missed the remainder of the season. While he is obviously a major health risk, 29-year-old Shields has played at a high level when healthy and should draw interest from cornerback-needy teams if he gains medical clearance.

Both those last 2 were quality players for the PACK. Corner is definitely a position of need, running back not so much. They have permanently moved Montgomery to the position and Christine Michael did well enough that he will likely play a big part in the offense. Lacy needs to get healthy AND lose some weight. I think if he played at 230 instead of 255 he would be a beast.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Jets are a "possibility" to acquire Jay Cutler.
The Jets hired Jeremy Bates as their new QBs coach on Wednesday. He and Cutler have a long history together, and by most accounts, the two really like working with each other. Bates was Cutler's QBs coach in Denver early in his career when he went to the Pro Bowl, and then Bates was brought over to Chicago in 2012 to work with Cutler again. On top of Bates, the Jets also currently employ former Bears teammates Matt Forte and Brandon Marshall

According to Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, free agent Eddie Lacy will likely have to settle for a one-year deal in the $2 million range.
Dougherty came to this conclusion after speaking with an agent who has studied the running back market. Lacy burst onto the scene by earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2013, but has watched his production dip while battling injuries and weight issues. The Packers cut James Starks, and ex-WR Ty Montgomery is unlikely to develop into an every-down back. Given the alternatives, bringing Lacy back on a cheap one-year deal might be the Packers' best option.

                    Giants released RB Rashad Jennings.
Jennings was set to make $2.48 million in the final season of his four-year contract.

                    Giants released WR Victor Cruz.
This was an easy move for GM Jerry Reese. Despite Cruz's pleas to remain with the team, it made no sense to bring him back at his $9.4 million cap number. With the move, the Giants save $7.5 million against the cap

ESPN's Ed Werder reports Tony Romo expects to be released.
That is instead of being traded. The Cowboys will certainly attempt to find a trading partner, but it does not make much sense for anyone to trade for a soon-to-be-37 quarterback who has played five games in the last two seasons with most of that missed time due to injury. If the Cowboys want to do right by Romo, it also makes the most sense to let him pick his next destination

Re: NFL Off Season News And Rumors

ESPN's Jason Reid reports "former Redskins officials who know Kirk Cousins" have said free agent Cousins doesn't want to be in Washington and would prefer to be franchise-tagged rather than sign a long-term deal.
The sides have made what sounds like zero progress on a long-term deal, and Cousins may simply be fed up with the way GM Scot McCloughan and Co. has handled negotiations over the past two offseasons. The front office clearly didn't believe in Cousins last year at this time, making him prove himself again on a one-year deal, and Cousins answered the bell with a big year. It's fair to wonder if the "former Redskins officials" Reid is referring to is someone(s) from the old Shanahan regime, as then-OC Kyle Shanahan literally "stood on a table" for Cousins when they drafted him. Shanahan, now the head coach in San Francisco, doesn't have a quarterback and remains enamored with Cousins, who has made it known he feels the same way toward Shanahan

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Bears have "actively started seeking" a trade partner for Jay Cutler.
The Bears will try their darnedest to get something for Cutler, though there's a good chance they'll end up cutting him.

                            Panthers released FB Mike Tolbert.
The move frees up $1.725 million in cap space. Tolbert earned three Pro Bowl nods in five seasons with Carolina. Fullbacks are a dying breed in the NFL, but Tolbert should land on his feet.

                              Chiefs released RB Jamaal Charles.
The expected move saves Kansas City $6.2 million in cap space. 30-year-old Charles struggled to get on the field in 2016 while battling injuries to both knees following a 2015 ACL tear. He has just 83 carries since the end of the 2014 season

Vikings announced they will not pick up Adrian Peterson's 2017 option, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Minnesota was never going to pick up Peterson's $18 million option, but GM Rick Spielman has not closed the door on the running back returning. "Adrian is an important part of the Minnesota Vikings organization," Spielman said. "We will continue to have conversations with his representatives and leave our future options open while determining what is best for both parties
