    Re: MLB Betting Info 7/6

    Preview: Marlins at Mets

    Weather information is currently unavailable.
GAME: Miami Marlins (44-40) at New York Mets (45-38)
    DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 06 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York
    LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

On a day when Major League Baseball unveiled its selections for the All-Star Game, Giancarlo Stanton provided a reminder that he carries plenty of star power. Stanton homered twice and drove in all five runs in Tuesday's 5-2 victory for Miami, which completes a three-game set at the New York Mets on Wednesday afternoon.

Stanton, who was batting .193 on June 15, registered his first multi-homer game of the season to move into fourth place among active players with 24 blasts against the Mets. Stanton's career high-tying five RBIs snapped New York's five-game winning streak and pulled the Marlins within 1 1/2 games of the second-place Mets in the National League East. Jose Reyes, signed by New York following the completion of his 51-game suspension for domestic violence and subsequent release by the Colorado Rockies, was 0-for-4 in his first game back with the team. Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom looks to earn back-to-back victories for the first time since his winning his first three starts of the season when he opposes Justin Nicolino in the series finale.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins LH Justin Nicolino (2-4, 5.34 ERA) vs. Mets RH Jacob deGrom (4-4, 2.62)

Nicolino had another shaky outing in Atlanta on Friday but came away with a no-decision after allowing four runs on seven hits over five innings to remain winless since May 3. The 24-year-old Nicolino has given up 14 runs and 29 hits over his last three turns and is 0-4 in nine starts since his last victory. He permitted two runs and nine hits over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision versus the Mets on June 4.

DeGrom halted a two-month winless drought last time out against the Chicago Cubs, giving up one run and three hits while striking out seven in five innings before rain ended his night. He had notched six consecutive quality starts prior to that outing but had nothing to show for it but three losses. Christian Yelich and Marcell Ozuna are each 6-for-19 versus deGrom, who is 3-1 with a 2.80 ERA against Miami.

    WALK-OFFS

    1. Mets LF Yoenis Cespedes, an NL All-Star selection along with RHPs Noah Syndergaard and Jeurys Familia, has hit safely in nine straight games.

    2. Ozuna was joined on the All-Star squad by RHPs Jose Fernandez, A.J. Ramos and Fernando Rodney, a recent acquisition from San Diego.

    3. Mets C Travis d'Arnaud gave his No. 7 to Reyes and switched to No. 18 in honor of Peyton Manning.

    PREDICTION: Mets 5, Marlins 3

        Current Conditions - Minneapolis

        CLOUDS AND SUN 88 °F
        Wind: CLM 0
        5-Day Forecast
GAME: Oakland Athletics (36-48) at Minnesota Twins (28-55)
        DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 06 - 1:10 PM EST
        WHERE: Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota
        LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Oakland Athletics and host Minnesota Twins will have little rest when they conclude their three-game series with the rubber match on Wednesday afternoon. Severe weather delayed the start of Tuesday's contest until 9:50 p.m. CT, making for the latest first pitch in a game in Target Field history.

The nearly three-hour delay was followed by an 11-4 Minnesota win that featured 12 hits - six for extra bases - and lasted 3 hours, 8 minutes. Eduardo Nunez, who was named to his first All-Star Game as Minnesota's lone representative, doubled and singled in five at-bats and is hitting .324 over his last 39 games. The last-place Twins also received solid production from their many young players, as Miguel Sano, Max Kepler and Kennys Vargas all homered while Byron Buxton registered a pair of doubles. The A's, who give the ball to struggling ace Sonny Gray in the series finale, have dropped five of their last six following a 6-1 surge.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, CSN California (Oakland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics RH Sonny Gray (3-7, 5.42 ERA) vs. Twins RH Ervin Santana (2-7, 4.50)

Gray looked to be turning a corner in June (3.23 ERA) but began this month in rocky fashion, allowing seven runs and seven hits over six innings in a loss to Pittsburgh. On a positive note, he has walked just one batter in each of his six starts since returning from a strained trapezius after issuing 24 free passes in his first nine outings. The 26-year-old has posted a 6.19 ERA in three career starts against the Twins.

Santana has allowed a total of five earned runs over his last three starts but has just one win to show for it. He settled for a no-decision after yielding two runs and three hits in 6 1/3 innings against Texas on Friday. The Dominican veteran was a tough-luck loser at Oakland on May 30, when he gave up three runs in seven frames to fall to 15-7 with a sparkling 2.10 ERA versus the A's.

        WALK-OFFS

        1. Oakland C Stephen Vogt was named as the team's lone All-Star Game representative, receiving his second straight nod.

        2. Athletics SS Marcus Semien homered Tuesday and has belted six in his last 13 games.

        3. Minnesota is 18-27 at home but has a chance to claim its third consecutive series win at Target Field.

The Chicago Cubs had seven players named to the National League All-Star team, but they haven’t performed like a star-laden team lately. The Cubs have lost 11 of their last 16, and they need a win Wednesday to avoid a home series loss to the last-place Cincinnati Reds.

The Cubs belted four homers in Tuesday’s defeat, bringing their season total to 31 in 12 games against the Reds, but Cincinnati had two homers of its own and took advantage of seven walks en route to a 9-5 victory. Nine of those blasts have come from Kris Bryant, who hit his major league-leading 25th Tuesday and is batting .429 with 21 RBIs against the Reds this year. Chicago has won 10 of 12 against Cincinnati this season, averaging 8.5 runs, and a big offensive output will be necessary if the Cubs’ pitchers continue their recent struggles. Right-hander Adam Warren will make a spot start to give the regular rotation an extra day in hopes of reversing the trend, as opponents have scored 41 runs over the past five games.
TV: 2:20 p.m. ET, CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Anthony DeSclafani (2-0, 1.78 ERA) vs. Cubs RH Adam Warren (3-1, 4.56)
DeSclafani is set for his sixth start since returning from a strained left oblique, and his return to the rotation has been a bright spot for the Reds. The 26-year-old has recorded quality starts in four of his five outings, including each of the last three. DeSclafani is 1-2 with a 3.57 ERA in six starts against the Cubs, including a 1-0 mark and 1.89 ERA in three meetings at Wrigley Field.
Warren hasn’t pitched in the majors since June 19, spending the past two-plus weeks in the minors stretching out for Wednesday’s spot start. The 28-year-old has done the bulk of his big-league work out of the bullpen, but he is 7-6 with a 3.98 ERA in 20 career starts - 17 of which came last season with the New York Yankees. Warren has made two relief appearances against the Reds this season, allowing one hit over two scoreless innings.

            WALK-OFFS
            1. The Cubs’ 31 homers against the Reds are their most against any team since hitting 32 in 15 games against Cincinnati in 2005.
            2. Reds 1B Joey Votto was 1-for-1 with three walks Tuesday and has posted a .548 on-base percentage over his last nine games.
            3. Cubs C/OF Willson Contreras has hit safely in 15 of the first 17 games of his career in which he has had an at-bat.

                Wind: N 3
                5-Day Forecast
GAME: Baltimore Orioles (48-35) at Los Angeles Dodgers (48-38)
                DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 06 - 3:10 PM EST

Corey Seager kept his streak going, but the Los Angeles Dodgers couldn't do the same as they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. The shortstop looks to extend his hitting streak to 19 games and the Dodgers attempt to claim a series victory Wednesday afternoon as they host the rubber match against the Orioles.

The 22-year-old Seager, who was named to the National League All-Star team, went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's loss to stretch his streak to 18 contests - the longest by a Dodger since Hanley Ramirez's 19-game run in 2013 and second-longest by a Dodgers rookie (Tommy Davis, 20 games in 1960). All-Star Manny Machado snapped a 1-1 tie with a three-run homer in the fifth inning and the Orioles went on to improve to 3-5 on their nine-game road trip. The victory halted Baltimore's five-game losing streak and kept its lead over Toronto in the American League East at 2 1/2 games. J.J. Hardy recorded a hit in four at-bats and is 6-for-16 with five RBIs over his last four contests.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Kevin Gausman (1-6, 3.97 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Bud Norris (4-7, 3.89)

Gausman was unable to ride the momentum from his first victory of the season as he suffered his third loss in four starts Friday at Seattle. The 25-year-old native of Colorado, who scattered four hits over 7 2/3 scoreless innings in a win over Tampa Bay on June 25, allowed three runs and eight hits - two homers - in six frames against the Mariners. Gausman, who never has faced Los Angeles, is 0-5 with a 5.02 ERA in eight starts on the road this year.

Norris was superb in his debut with the Dodgers on Friday, limiting Colorado to two hits and a walk while striking out eight over six scoreless innings in the victory. It was the second straight brilliant performance by the 31-year-old Californian, who scattered four hits and fanned eight while keeping the New York Mets off the scoreboard over seven frames in his final outing with Atlanta on June 26. Norris lost his only career start against Baltimore on June 6, 2013, when he yielded three runs and nine hits in seven innings while with Houston.

                WALK-OFFS

                1. The Dodgers optioned Julio Urias to Triple-A Oklahoma City and recalled fellow LHP Luis Avilan, who likely will be sent back down on Thursday to make room for LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu.

                2. Baltimore will be represented by five players in this year's All-Star Game as 3B Manny Machado won the fan vote while C Matt Wieters, RF Mark Trumbo, LHP Zach Britton and RHP Brad Brach also were named to the AL squad.

                3. Los Angeles LHP Clayton Kershaw, RHP Kenley Jansen and Seager were elected to the NL All-Star roster by player ballot.

                    DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 06 - 4:05 PM EST

The Milwaukee Brewers are sitting nine games under the .500 mark but they are making life awfully hard on the National League East-leading Washington Nationals. The visiting Brewers have won four of five against Washington in the past 12 days and go for a sweep of their three-game series Wednesday afternoon.

Milwaukee arrived in Washington riding a four-game losing streak, but squeezed out a 1-0 victory in the series opener before Aaron Hill and Hernan Perez each slammed a two-run homer in Tuesday's 5-2 victory. Hill collected three hits Tuesday and is 9-for-19 with a homer and five RBIs in five games against the Nationals this season. Washington's Danny Espinosa, named the NL Player of the Week after batting .423 with five homers and 17 RBIs, went 2-for-4 on Tuesday to extend his hitting streak to four games. Catcher Wilson Ramos, among four Nationals named to the NL All-Star team, is 6-for-16 with a homer and six RBIs against Matt Garza, who will start for the Brewers against Nationals right-hander Tanner Roark.

TV: 4:05 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), MASN2 (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Matt Garza (1-1, 3.74 ERA) vs. Nationals RH Tanner Roark (7-5, 2.93)

Garza contributed to another poor outing by committing a critical error in a loss at St. Louis last time out to suffer his first loss in his fourth start of the season. He was charged with seven runs (four earned) on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings while walking three batters for the second straight outing. Garza beat the Nationals with six innings of four-run ball on June 25 to improve to 1-4 with a 7.01 ERA against them.

Roark pitched at least seven innings for the third straight start but did not factor in the decision versus Cincinnati on Friday after giving up two runs on eight hits. He dominated the Brewers in Milwaukee in his previous turn, allowing seven hits over seven scoreless frames to improve to 2-0 with a 2.42 ERA against them in four appearances (three starts). Ryan Braun is 4-for-10 with a triple and RBI versus Roark.

                    WALK-OFFS

                    1. Brewers RHP Jeremy Jeffress has converted 23 of 24 save chances.

                    2. Nationals RF Bryce Harper, RHP Stephen Strasburg and 2B Daniel Murphy also were All-Star selections.

                    3. C Jonathan Lucroy, Milwaukee's All-Star representative, has multiple hits in four of his last eight games.

                    PREDICTION: Nationals 5, Brewers 2

The defending American League East champion Toronto Blue Jays have their sights set on first place once again and could eclipse the division-leading Baltimore Orioles before the All-Star break. The Blue Jays will try to post their fifth straight win and earn a sweep of the ALCS rematch when they host the Kansas City Royals in the finale of a three-game set on Wednesday.

Toronto is pounding out an average of 10 runs in its last four games and got a pair of home runs from All-Star Josh Donaldson in Tuesday’s 8-3 win. Donaldson is on a tear in the four wins, going 10-for-15 with 11 runs scored, seven RBIs and three home runs to lift his batting average to .304 – its highest point since April. The Royals are sending four players to the All-Star Game but are drifting down the standings in the AL Central with losses in three straight and nine of the last 14. Kansas City dropped to 16-29 on the road with Tuesday’s setback and have a chance to turn things around with four at home against Seattle beginning on Thursday.

TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, FSN Kansas City, Sportsnet, TVAS (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals RH Ian Kennedy (6-7, 4.04 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Marcus Stroman (6-4, 5.08)

Kennedy is piling up strikeouts with 19 in 12 innings over his last two outings. The California native punched out eight at Philadelphia on Friday but also issued three walks and allowed three runs over five innings to suffer a loss. Kennedy does not have much of a track record against Toronto – one start – and is 3-6 with a 5.37 ERA on the road this season.

Stroman is battling some inconsistency and followed up two poor outings with a strong start against Cleveland on Friday. The Duke product allowed one run and five hits in 6 2/3 innings but did not factor in the decision in a game that ended up going 19 innings. Stroman won his lone career regular season start against Kansas City and earned a win in the ALCS last October despite surrendering four runs and 11 hits in 6 1/3 frames.

                        WALK-OFFS

                        1. The Royals placed All-Star RHP Wade Davis (forearm strain) on the 15-day disabled list.

                        2. Toronto All-Star DH Edwin Encarnacion is 7-for-18 with seven RBIs in the last four contests.

The Los Angeles Angels took out all their frustration with the bats Tuesday and hope to build off another big offensive explosion when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday for the third contest of their four-game series. C.J. Cron led the way with a pair of homers in the 13-5 victory as the Angels won for only the third time in 15 games – three days after putting up 21 runs in Boston.

Mike Trout was rested until pinch-running late in the game, but Los Angeles posted 16 hits after losing the series opener on Monday. Albert Pujols is riding an 11-game hitting streak and Yunel Escobar has hit safely in 10 consecutive contests for the Angels as they prepare to face Tampa Bay starter Drew Smyly on Wednesday. The Rays have dropped 17 of their last 20 games to fall into last place in the American League East and have decisions to make before the trade deadline. Logan Morrison has heated up again for Tampa Bay, belting two homers in his last two games to reach double digits for the season.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), FSN Sun (Tampa Bay)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Jered Weaver (6-7, 5.51 ERA) vs. Rays LH Drew Smyly (2-9, 5.33)

Weaver has allowed 10 runs and 15 hits over 10 innings in his last two starts after pitching a three-hit shutout against Oakland on June 19. The Long Beach State product gave up eight homers in six June starts and has yielded 20 overall – putting him among the major league leaders. Logan Forsythe is 4-for-13 and Evan Longoria homered against Weaver, who is 5-5 with a 3.64 ERA in 13 career games versus the Rays.

Smyly is winless in his last eight starts (0-5), permitting at least four runs six times during that stretch. The 27-year-old Arkansas product also has had trouble with the home runs, giving up 19 overall, but kept the ball in the park in his last outing against Detroit despite allowing six runs in 6 2/3 innings. Trout is just 2-for-11 with four strikeouts versus Smyly, who is 0-2 with a 4.15 ERA in five career games against the Angels.

                            WALK-OFFS

                            1. Tampa Bay RHP Alex Colome, who was named to the American League All-Star team, pitched a scoreless inning hours after being activated on Tuesday.

                            2. Los Angeles SS Andrelton Simmons is 13-for-29 during his seven-game hitting streak after notching three hits and three RBIs on Tuesday.

                            3. Rays UTIL Nick Franklin was hitless in six games this season coming into the current homestand but is 9-for-25 with 11 RBIs in seven outings since.

                            PREDICTION: Rays 5, Angels 3

The Boston Red Sox are sending at least six players to the All-Star Game but are having a hard time turning all of that talent into consistent wins. The Red Sox will try to ride All-Star right-hander Steven Wright to a series win when they host the Texas Rangers in the rubber match of a three-game set on Wednesday.

Wright, closer Craig Kimbrel, center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr., right fielder Mookie Betts, shortstop Xander Bogaerts and designated hitter David Ortiz were all named to the American League All-Star team on Tuesday while second baseman Dustin Pedroia is among five players eligible for the final spot. Pedroia, Bogaerts, Betts, Bradley and Ortiz combined to go 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position on Tuesday and Kimbrel served up four runs in the ninth inning of a 7-2 setback. The Rangers own the best record in the American League at 53-32 but will only send two players to San Diego for the Midsummer Classic – left-hander Cole Hamels and outfielder Ian Desmond. Right fielder Shin-Soo Choo is playing like an All-Star of late with home runs in three of the last four games but left Tuesday’s win early with stiffness in his lower back.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ESPN, FSN Southwest (Texas), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers LH Martin Perez (7-4, 3.39 ERA) vs. Red Sox RH Steven Wright (9-5, 2.42)

Perez has not lost since May 18 and earned a quality start in each of the last two outings. The Venezuela native allowed a total of three runs in 13 innings over his last two starts, including a six-inning, one-run effort in a win over Boston on June 26. Perez is working around some trouble with his command of late with totals of eight walks and four home runs allowed in his last three outings.

Wright struggles with the elements and had a dominating effort take a turn when it started raining on Friday against Los Angeles, though he still managed to earn the win. The knuckleballer will be making his first All-Star appearance and ranks second in the AL in ERA behind Cleveland’s Danny Salazar (2.36). Wright had some trouble with the humidity in Texas on June 25 and ended up charged with eight runs – three earned – on seven hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings.

                                WALK-OFFS

                                1. Rangers 2B Rougned Odor is 6-for-12 with four runs scored, four RBIs and three extra-base hits in the last three games.

                                2. Kimbrel owns a 6.75 ERA in non-save situations and 1.45 in save situations.

                                3. Boston elevated former major-leaguer and current analytics expert Brian Bannister to the coaching staff to work with pitchers.

PREDICTION: Rangers 3, Red Sox 2
