    Re: MLB Betting Info. 6/25

Preview: Athletics (31-42) at Angels (31-43)

    Game: 3
    Venue: Angel Stadium of Anaheim
    Date: June 25, 2016 10:05 PM EDT

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Dillon Overton was charting pitches from the stands for Triple-A Nashville when he started getting multiple text messages.

Friends and family were reading reports that Overton might be called up to pitch Saturday's game for the Oakland A's and they wanted to know if the rumors were true.

Not long after, Overton got the news that he would be making the start Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels, making his major league debut. He immediately called his family to let them know.

"When I called, my mom started crying and asked if I was excited," Overton told the San Francisco Chronicle. "I said, 'Well of course I'm excited, mom, I'm going to the big leagues!'"

Because the A's starting pitchers have struggled so much, he finds himself in a situation the A's have already experienced twice this season. Overton will be the third starting pitcher to make his major league debut, joining Sean Manaea and Daniel Mengden.

Overton certainly earned it, going 8-4 with a 3.01 ERA in 14 games (13 starts) for Nashville, and he's been especially good lately -- he is 7-0 with a 1.40 ERA in his last seven starts.

"Our guys are telling us that he's really pitching well and he's come a long way," A's manager Bob Melvin told reporters after Thursday's game. "He's got a complement of pitches that gets him through righties and lefties both. We were impressed with what he did this spring. He's just continued to develop."

"We're at a point now where not only have we had some injuries and we've been using some guys, this is a guy that we like. He's healthy finally now and pitching well and you like to get a guy here when he's pitching well."

"Healthy now" is a big deal for Overton, who was drafted in the second round by the A's in 2013 but had to have Tommy John surgery before he could make his professional debut. Once healthy, he rose swiftly through the minor league system.

He'll be opposed by Angels right-hander Jhoulys Chacin, who could lose his spot in the starting rotation with another bad performance. In his last four starts, Chacin has an ERA of 8.83 (17 ER in 17 1/3 IP).

And while the Angels traded for Chacin on May 11 in a deal with the Braves to fill a slot in the rotation, they have a little more depth now that Nick Tropeano has returned from a sore shoulder.

The Angels optioned Tropeano to Triple-A Salt Lake Friday after completing a minor league rehab assignment even though Tropeano is the only Angels starter with a winning record (3-2) and has an ERA of 3.25, better than anyone currently in the rotation.

"Right now at this point in time, we're going to go with these five guys," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.

The Angels could not send Chacin down to the minors without first designating him for assignment and passing him through waivers. But they could move him to the bullpen and make him a long reliever.

Preview: Cardinals (38-34) at Mariners (37-37)

      Game: 2
      Venue: Safeco Field
      Date: June 25, 2016 10:10 PM EDT

SEATTLE -- While the Seattle Mariners' Nathan Karns is certainly no Felix Hernandez, he may well be greeted with a King-sized welcome when he takes the mound Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Unlike recent starters Wade LeBlanc, Adrian Sampson and Vidal Nuno, Karns is a major league starting pitcher. That's a rarity on a pitching staff that's running out of pitching options.

A proven starter and a rested bullpen give the Mariners, losers of six of their past seven, a significantly better chance as they head into the second game of a series with the Cardinals.

Seattle got an unexpected quality start from LeBlanc, a recent addition to the rotation after spending most of the season with the Toronto Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo. LeBlanc threw six shutout innings and gave the bullpen a much-needed break in Friday's 4-3 victory. Seattle used three relievers, with recent call-up Donn Roach earning the win in his season debut.

The Cardinals have their own bullpen issues following another poor outing by closer Trevor Rosenthal. He suffered his third blown save in 17 opportunities this season after giving up a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning.

"I'm showing up ready to go," Rosenthal said, unable to explain the recent struggles. "I feel like I'm giving my best stuff. I can't really comment on what's happened."

The Cardinals wasted another solid performance from starter Carlos Martinez, who allowed one run and four hits over seven innings and was in position to earn his eighth win of the season.

St. Louis (38-34) fell another game behind Chicago in the National League Central standings, and time is running out for the Cardinals to make a serious push. A three-game sweep at Wrigley Field earlier in the week put St. Louis back in the hunt, but the Cardinals are 10 1/2 back after Friday's loss.

Seattle is trying to get back into the AL West race after a rough road trip that saw the Mariners (37-37) drop seven of nine and lose their final six. They got back on track Friday, thanks to a starting pitcher who wasn't in the organization this time last week.

"That's what you hope for," LeBlanc said after Friday's game. "It's not what you plan for, but it's what you hope for."

The Mariners need Karns to get back in a groove as he's struggled over his first four starts of June. Walks have been a big factor as Karns has seen his season ERA swell from 3.43 to 4.38 over a span of four outings.

The Cardinals hope to have first baseman Matt Adams back in action after he was a late scratch for Friday's game. Adams is hitting .298 with nine home runs this season and was listed as "day-to-day" by Cardinals manager Mike Matheny.

Boston Red Sox at Texas Rangers Series (June 24-26)

The Rangers and Red Sox square off in a three game series at Globe Life Park in Arlington this weekend. This will be the first meeting of the season between these clubs. Texas held the edge vs Boston last season winning 5 of the 7 matchups, and that includes 3-1 at this venue.

As a team, Texas heads into the weekend one of the hottest teams in baseball. The Rangers reeling off an 8-1 streak have won 16 of their 21 games in June stuffing a whopping +$1182 into betting accounts. Meanwhile, John Farrell's inconsistent troops head into the series a disappointing 7-12 this month costing faithfull backers -$977 at the betting window.

Nick Martinez gets the opening call for Texas. The righthander making his second start of the season is off a no-decision last Saturday at St. Louis allowing 6 hits, 3 runs over 4 1/3 innings. Last season, Rangers lost 5-1 to Red Sox in Martinez's only career start vs Boston with the righty tossing 7 innings of 2 run ball.

Martinez trades pitches with David Price carrying an 8-4 record, 4.24 ERA to the hill. The hard-luck southpaw turning in four consecutive quality starts has only 1 win, 3 losses for his efforts thanks in large part to Red Sox providing just 7 total runs of support over those four games. Price facing Rangers for the first time since joining Boston is 3-8 life-time vs Texas in 15 starts for Toronto/Tampa Bay.

In Game 2 on Saturday, the pitching matchup features A.J. Griffin for the Rangers, Steven Wright for Red Sox. Griffin returning off the disabled list is 3-0 with a 2.94 in six starts this season and carries a 3-1 team start recors vs Red Sox earned while with the A’s. Wright off a 9 inning, 1 run gem tagged with a no-decision in a Red Sox loss remains undefeated in six starts allowing 2 or fewer runs in five of those starts. Wright lost his only career start in Texas last year giving up three hits, three runs, two homers over 5 2/3 innings.

And in Sunday’s finale, it's Martin Perez matching pitches with Clay Buchholz. In his last outing, Perez recorded a no-decision snapping a five game win streak but Rangers prevailed marking six straight wins handing the ball to their lefty. Perez is 1-1 in three career starts vs Boston (1-2 TSR) but hasn't faced Red Sox since 2014. Buchholz returning to the rotation Tuesday suffered his third straight loss as a starter. Red Sox have lost 5 of Buchholz's last 6 vs Rangers.

          'Jays in tough spot'

Toronto Blue Jays at Chicago White Sox June 25, 2:10 EST

The Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays get ready to duel again at U.S. Cellular Field after White Sox held on for a 3-2 victory last night. According to opening odds the White Sox are +$1.15 home underdogs with the total set at 9.5 runs.

White Sox count on Miguel Gonzalez to help the club notch consecutive victories over Toronto. In his last outing, Gonzalez earned a no-decision tossing 6 2/3 innings of one run ball in a White Sox extra inning victory over Boston. The righhander heads to the hill 1-2 with a 4.29 ERA in nine starts with Chicago 5-4 in those games.

Toronto sends R.A. Dickey to the bump looking to even the current series. The knuckle-baller off back-2-back losses carries 4-8 record, 4.08 ERA to the rubber along with a 4-11 team start record over his fifteen trips to the mound.

Toronto handing the ball to Dickey serves as an alarm, since the Blue Jays are 2-7 in Dickey's last 9 starts. Additionally, Dickey off a loss does not bode well for Toronto as the Blue Jays sport a 1-6 skid in his subsequent appearance on the mound. A couple of other telling baseball betting stats leap out against Toronto. The Blue Jays are 0-5 in Dickey's last 5 starts during game 2 of a series, 0-4 in his last 4 vs. a team with a losing record, 1-4 when he tosses in daylight hours. Taking all those numbers into account, there is still one more fact playing against Toronto. Since Dickey arrived on the scene for the Blue Jays the knuckler is 0-4 in five starts vs White Sox with Jays 1-4 over the span.

Five to Follow MLB Betting: Saturday, June 25, 2016, Opening Line Report
            by Alan Matthews

Entering the weekend, the Texas Rangers have a 10-game lead in the AL West Division and are -700 to repeat. But I'd now be a bit concerned about that wager. For one, 60 percent of the Rangers' rotation is on the DL in Yu Darvish, Colby Lewis and Derek Holland. While Darvish is expected back soon, you still never know how a guy will respond to Tommy John surgery, and he lasted only three starts off that. Lewis and Holland landed on the DL this week, with Lewis expected to miss two months due to a strained lat muscle in his pitching shoulder. He was 6-1 with a 3.21 ERA and ranks among the AL leaders in starts and innings. Holland has shoulder inflammation, and that could be longer than a 15-day DL stint. He was 5-5 with a 5.20 ERA. So now the Rangers have Cole Hamels, Martin Perez and injury-plagued A.J. Griffin, who will be activated off the DL for Saturday's game vs. Boston. They have to patch together two other starters. The other reason that Rangers backers might be nervous: the Astros are starting to play up to expectations. This race isn't over.

            Twins at Yankees (-193, 9)

First pitch of 1:05 p.m. and on the MLB Network, so live betting should be available. New York expects to activate first baseman Mark Teixeira off the disabled list for this one. He has been on the disabled list since June 4 with a knee injury. Tex is hitting just .180 with three homers in 167 at-bats. In an ideal world, the Yankees probably trade him by the deadline for a prospect, but no one will touch him until he proves healthy and that he can still hit. The Yankees have been using a platoon of Ike Davis and Rob Refsnyder at first base of late. New York starts Michael Pineda (3-7, 5.82) on the mound. After nearly being sent to the bullpen, Pineda has been better over his past four starts, not allowing more than three earned in any. He pitched at Minnesota last Saturday and took a no-decision in allowing three earned and striking out nine in 5.1 innings. Minnesota's Ervin Santana (2-7, 4.83) faced the Yankees on Sunday and allowed two earned over 7.1 innings in a win. Alex Rodriguez is a career .310 hitter off him with four homers in 42 at-bats. Teixeira is 6-for-38 off him with eight strikeouts.

Key trends: The Twins are 2-12 in Santana's past 14 starts. The Yankees are 4-1 in Pineda's past five vs. teams with a losing record. The "over/under" is 4-0 in Santana's past four. The over is 3-1-1 in Pineda's past five at home vs. teams with a losing record.

            Early lean: Yankees and over.

            Padres at Reds (-117, 9)

This 4:10 p.m. ET game is nationally televised on Fox Sports 1 and should have live betting at sportsbooks. Fox Sports 1 must be pretty desperate since these are two last-place teams. Probably will be plenty of scouts on hand to watch Padres lefty Drew Pomeranz (6-7, 3.00). I know the Orioles are among the teams looking at him. Pomeranz beat the Nationals last time out, allowing three runs (all solo homers) in six innings. He has a 2.61 ERA in two career starts vs. the Reds. Jay Bruce is 0-for-4 against him. The Reds start lefty Brandon Finnegan (3-5, 3.81). He lost in Houston on Sunday, giving up four runs over five innings. That ended a string of three straight quality starts. Finnegan has never faced the Padres.

Key trends: The Padres are 1-5 in Pomeranz's past six on the road. The Reds are 2-10 in Finnegan's past 12. The under is 8-2 in Pomeranz's past 10. The under is 4-0-2 in Finnegan's past six.

            Early lean: Reds and under.

            Diamondbacks at Rockies (-138, 12)

Perhaps Arizona can go on a wild-card push in the second half of the season if Shelby Miller has finally fixed himself. Miller (2-6, 6.36), acquired from Atlanta this offseason, was maybe the worst pitcher in the National League before he was placed on the disabled list following a May 24 start in Pittsburgh. The Diamondbacks said he had a finger injury, but I'm pretty sure he was just put on the DL for mental reasons. It might have worked as Miller returned on Monday and had his best start of the year, allowing one run and five hits over 6.2 innings in a victory. Miller is 0-2 with an 8.38 ERA in two starts vs. the Rockies in 2016. DJ LeMahieu is 6-for-13 off him with a homer and three RBIs. Nolan Arenado is 2-for-14. Colorado counters with lefty Jorge De La Rosa (4-4, 7.17). He was demoted to the bullpen but has been much better in two starts since coming back to the rotation, allowing three runs and eight hits over 11 innings in back-to-back wins. His season debut was in Arizona, and De La Rosa took a no-decision, allowing five runs in 4.2 innings. Yasmany Tomas is 3-for-7 off him with a homer and four RBIs.

Key trends: The Diamondbacks are 1-4 in Miller's past five on four days of rest. The Rockies are 8-3 in De La Rosa's past 11 vs. the NL West. The over is 4-0 in his past four at home.

Early lean: Rockies and over (not sure I've seen a 12 yet this year).

            Astros at Royals (+111, 8.5)

Kansas City is expected to activate All-Star left fielder Alex Gordon from the DL for this game. He has been out since May 22 with a broken bone in his hand. Gordon was batting .211 with a .319 on-base percentage and four homers in 42 games with the Royals before his injury. Gordon will face Houston righty Mike Fiers (5-3, 4.42). In four starts since June 1, he's 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA. Fiers had to leave his last start Sunday vs. Cincinnati after taking a comebacker in the leg but apparently is fine. Gordon is 2-for-4 career off him with an RBI. Lorenzo Cain is 2-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs. The Royals throw 6-foot-10 Chris Young (2-6, 5.61). He comes off a strong outing, allowing one run and three hits over six innings in a no-decision vs. Detroit. Young was bombed in Houston on April 11, allowing six runs and nine hits in 4.2 innings. Jose Altuve is 3-for-12 off him with two RBIs. Carlos Correa is 2-for-3 with a double.

Key trends: The Astros are 1-5 in Fiers' past six on the road. The Royals are 4-0 in Young's past four at home. The under is 5-2 in Young's past seven.

            Early lean: Royals and under.

            Phillies at Giants (-300, 6.5)

The Giants could activate top set-up man Sergio Romo from the DL this weekend. He has been on the disabled list since April 15 after being diagnosed with a strained flexor tendon. The former closer had a 2.70 ERA in four appearances. Last year, he made 70 appearances with a 2.98 ERA. San Francisco might not need any relievers in this one with ace lefty Madison Bumgarner (8-3, 1.85) on the mound. The Giants had won 10 straight of his starts before Bumgarner was a tough-luck loser Monday in Pittsburgh, allowing one run and five hits over eight innings. He was 2-0 with a 4.61 ERA last year vs. the Phillies. They go with trade candidate Jeremy Hellickson (4-6, 4.41). Philadelphia has lost his past six, but Hellickson pitched pretty well in four of those. Last time out he gave up three runs in seven innings vs. Arizona. That terrible Phillies offense isn't scoring at all for him. The Giants' Brandon Crawford is 4-for-7 career against him. Buster Posey is 0-for-7.

Key trends: The Phillies have lost four straight vs. lefties. The Giants are 6-0 in Bumgarner's past six at home. The under is 4-1 in his past five vs. teams with a losing record.

Early lean: Giants on runline and under.

First baseman Mark Teixeira is expected to return to the lineup on Saturday afternoon when the New York Yankees continue their three-game series against the visiting Minnesota Twins. The Yankees moved back to the .500 mark with a 5-3 win in the series opener, their fourth victory in five games over Minnesota in a nine-day span.

Teixeira, sidelined since June 3 with torn cartilage in his knee, went 1-for-9 on a three-game rehab assignment and was batting .180 with three homers at the time of the injury. Teixeira's replacement, Rob Refsnyder, delivered the go-ahead RBI single Friday for New York, which has scored 41 runs during a 5-2 stretch. Catcher Kurt Suzuki is 9-for-17 with two homers, four doubles and eight RBIs during a five-game hitting streak for the Twins. Right-hander Ervin Santana looks to beat the Yankees for the second time in a week when he opposes Michael Pineda on Saturday.

TV: 1:05 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), WPIX (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Ervin Santana (2-7, 4.83 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Michael Pineda (3-7, 5.82)

Santana turned in his best effort in a month against the Yankees on Sunday, permitting three runs (two earned) on six hits over 7 1/3 innings to earn his first victory since May 14. It snapped a five-start losing streak for Santana, who gave up 24 runs and seven homers during the skid and at least nine hits in three of the five outings. Santana is 6-9 overall versus New York and has never won at the new Yankee Stadium, posting an 0-4 record and 8.14 ERA.

Pineda's season of inconsistency continued in last weekend's start against the Yankees, when he matched his season high with nine strikeouts but also gave up four runs (three earned) in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision. He turned in a quality start in each of his previous two outings, taking a hard-luck loss versus Detroit on June 12 after giving up two runs in six innings. Pineda has made four career starts against the Twins, going 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA.

                WALK-OFFS

                1. The Yankees are 24-4 this season when scoring at least five runs.

                2. The Twins traded OF Oswaldo Arcia to Tampa Bay on Friday for a player to be named later or cash.

                3. Yankees RF Carlos Beltran had an RBI double to give him 518 two-baggers, good for 49th place on the all-time list.

                PREDICTION: Yankees 5, Twins 4

The American League East-leading Baltimore Orioles look to build off a series-opening victory when they host the struggling Tampa Bay Rays in a split doubleheader on Saturday. The Orioles rallied from a three-run deficit Friday with a two-run single by Chris Davis and solo homers from Adam Jones and Manny Machado to record a 6-3 triumph.

Jones has hit safely in five straight games while batting in the leadoff spot and Davis is 8-for-20 with four RBIs in the last five contests for Baltimore, which has won four of its last six contests. The Rays have lost a season-high eight straight games and will look to Corey Dickerson to add offense after going 4-for-10 with a homer, three RBIs and three walks in the last three contests. Tampa Bay has dropped into the cellar in the AL East, 10 ½ games behind the Orioles, and have managed 18 runs during their losing streak. Evan Longoria boasts nine homers in June and has had plenty of success against Baltimore with 30 blasts in 131 encounters.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Matt Andriese (6-0, 2.88 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Kevin Gausman (0-5, 4.37)

Andriese makes his first start since June 10 after making three straight appearances out of the bullpen, including Wednesday at Cleveland. The 26-year-old Californian yielded three or fewer runs in six of his seven starts and has surrendered just two homers in 50 innings overall. Davis has homered versus Andriese, who gave up four runs in three innings of relief against Baltimore last season.

Gausman permitted four runs and nine hits over five innings Monday against Texas to suffer a fourth loss in his last six contests. The 25-year-old LSU product has struck out 62 and walked 18 in 68 innings overall while allowing 12 homers – five shy of last year’s total. Logan Forsythe is 4-for-7 with two doubles and a homer versus Gausman, who is 2-4 with a 5.65 ERA in 10 games (eight starts) against the Rays.

                    3. Orioles LHP Zach Britton is 22-for-22 in save opportunities this season and boasts 37 strikeouts over 31 2/3 innings.

Melky Cabrera has found his batting stroke, raising his average 15 points in three days, and aims for another productive outing when the Chicago White Sox host the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday in the middle contest of a three-game set. Cabrera went 3-for-4 with a homer in the series-opening 3-2 win over Toronto and is 8-for-15 with two blasts and five RBIs over his last three games.

Todd Frazier recorded two hits in the opener, including the tiebreaking single in the seventh inning that represented Chicago's lone hit in 14 at-bats with runners in scoring position. Former Blue Jay Brett Lawrie notched three hits to improve to 5-for-8 over the last two contests as the White Sox won for the fourth time in five games. Toronto has dropped four of its last five contests and its usually potent offense has scored just two runs in three of the defeats. Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion, who leads the American League with 62 RBIs, struck out in four of five hitless at-bats in the opener and is 5-for-28 with three homers and 10 RBIs against scheduled starter Miguel Gonzalez.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH R.A. Dickey (4-8, 4.08 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Miguel Gonzalez (1-2, 4.29)

Dickey has lost back-to-back starts after winning his previous two outings. The knuckleballer has a 3.03 ERA over his last five turns while giving up three or fewer runs in each of the starts. Dickey allowed six runs and eight hits in six innings of a loss to Chicago on April 26 to drop to 2-6 with a 7.57 ERA in 12 career appearances (eight starts) against the White Sox and has served up three homers to Jose Abreu and two apiece to Cabrera and Frazier.

Gonzalez has allowed one run in two of his last three starts, including his last turn against Boston in which he gave up four hits in 6 2/3 innings of a no-decision. He experienced his worst showing of the season between the two good efforts when he allowed seven runs and eight hits over 3 1/3 frames in a loss to Detroit. Gonzalez is 7-3 with a 2.99 ERA in 14 career appearances (13 starts) against Toronto, including a no-decision this season in which he allowed five runs and a season-worst 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

                        WALK-OFFS

                        1. Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak sat out Friday and underwent X-rays after fouling a ball off his knee on Wednesday.

                        2. Abreu, who has recorded 10 multi-hit peformances in June, was rested Friday due to sore legs and is expected back in the lineup on Saturday.

                        3. Toronto 3B Josh Donaldson is 5-for-10 over his last three contests but has gone five games without an RBI.

PREDICTION: Blue Jays 8, White Sox 7

                            Preview: Indians at Tigers

Weather information is currently unavailable. 5-Day Forecast
GAME: Cleveland Indians (42-30) at Detroit Tigers (38-36)
                            DATE/TIME: Saturday, June 25 - 4:10 PM EST
                            WHERE: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan

The Cleveland Indians are continuing to build a lead atop the American League Central and the Detroit Tigers have provided little resistance in slowing down their division rivals. The Indians look to extend their winning streak to eight games and improve to 8-0 against the Tigers when the teams play the second of a three-game set Saturday in Detroit.

Cleveland has outscored the Tigers 45-16 this season after opening its 10-game road trip by breezing to a 7-4 victory in the series opener. Jason Kipnis had two of his team's four triples and drove in three runs for the Indians, who also have amassed 45 runs during the overall seven-game winning streak. Cameron Maybin collected three hits and two RBIs for Detroit, which dropped five games behind Cleveland after having its four-game winning streak halted with only its second loss in the last 11 games at Comerica Park. Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez has already lost twice to the Indians as he prepares to make his first start since May 31.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland), FSN Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Carlos Carrasco (2-2, 3.26 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Anibal Sánchez (4-7, 5.97)

Carrasco, winless in four starts since injuring a hamstring versus Detroit and spending 5 1/2 weeks on the disabled list, took a no-decision last time out despite working 7 1/3 strong innings of two-run ball against the Chicago White Sox. He also allowed two runs (on 10 hits) while striking out eight over six innings in a loss to Kansas City in his previous outing. Miguel Cabrera is 9-for-24 versus Carrasco, who is 4-6 with a 6.02 ERA against the Tigers.

Sanchez makes his return to the starting rotation after a three-week stay in the bullpen, where he allowed two runs in six appearances. Sanchez was demoted after a six-start stretch in which he went 0-4 and was throttled for 29 runs, capped by a three-inning stint versus the Los Angeles Angels in which he was tagged for six runs. He's allowed 11 runs over 11 innings in two losses to the Indians this season to fall to 4-5 with a 3.72 ERA against them.

                            WALK-OFFS

                            1. Indians C Yan Gomes, who is 7-for-14 versus Sanchez, sat out Friday after having a cyst drained but is expected to be available Saturday.

                            2. Cabrera is 1-for-15 over the last four games.

                            3. The Indians last had four triples in a game in August 2001 at Texas; the last three times they had three triples were at Comerica Park.

                            PREDICTION: Indians 6, Tigers 5

A road trip that began with promise is turning into a disaster for the Washington Nationals, who look to avoid a seventh consecutive defeat when they continue their three-game series against the host Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday afternoon. Pitching continues to plague Washington, which has allowed at least four runs in all but one game during its 2-6 trek.

Wilson Ramos went 4-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to eight games and Daniel Murphy contributed two hits and two RBIs in Friday's 5-3 loss for the Nationals. Reigning National League MVP Bryce Harper is 5-for-25 during the six-game skid for Washington, which saw its lead atop the National League East cut to three games. Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit a tiebreaking two-run homer and Keon Broxton delivered a pinch-hit solo blast to lift Milwaukee to its second straight win following a 1-7 slide. Brewers right-hander Matt Garza will make his third start of the season against slumping lefty Gio Gonzalez on Saturday.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Washington), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals LH Gio González (3-6, 4.25 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Matt Garza (0-0, 0.90)

Gonzalez owned a major league-leading 1.86 ERA after beating the New York Mets on May 18, but he has seen it climb to 4.25 over a dismal six-start stretch in which he is 0-5. The latest setback came at San Diego on Sunday, when he was knocked around for six runs - five earned - and walked four batters in 5 1/3 innings. Gonzalez has lost his last three outings away from home, but he is 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA in five career starts versus Milwaukee.

After he was reached for one run and eight hits over four frames at San Francisco in his season debut, Garza amped up his game last time out at the Los Angeles Dodgers. He scattered five hits over six scoreless frames and did not walk a batter but came away with a no-decision. Garza never has beaten the Nationals in eight starts, posting an 0-4 record and unsightly 7.17 ERA, and has had trouble versus Harper (3-for-6) and Ramos (5-for-13).

                                WALK-OFFS

                                1. Washington's Nos. 6-8 hitters were a combined 0-for-10 with nine strikeouts in the series opener.

                                2. Brewers 3B Aaron Hill has hit safely in six of his last seven games following a two-run single Friday.

                                3. Nationals RHP Stephen Strasburg (back), who missed his last start, had two ribs popped back into place this week and is expected to pitch Sunday.
