Preview: L.A. Clippers At Phoenix
When: 10:30 PM ET, Wednesday, April 13, 2016
Where: Talking Stick Resort Arena, Phoenix, Arizona
The Los Angeles Clippers are finishing the regular season on a high note and look to add another victory when they visit the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. Los Angeles routed the Memphis Grizzlies 110-84 on Tuesday for its sixth straight victory and 10th in the past 11 games.
The Clippers have been controlling play on the defensive end and have allowed an average of 87.2 points during their past five games. “You can see our focus has been really good,” Los Angeles coach Doc Rivers told reporters. “We are starting to take away individual strengths. Our talk is better. I love the way we’re playing defense right now.” Phoenix is searching for a victory that would allow it to avoid the second 60-loss season in franchise history. Rookie guard Devin Booker scored 22 points in Monday’s 105-101 loss to the Sacramento Kings and has reached double digits in 23 of the past 24 games.

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (53-28): Shooting guard J.J. Redick bruised his left heel during the victory over Memphis and will miss the season finale. Before being injured, Redick knocked down his 200th 3-pointer of the season to tie the franchise mark he established last season. Redick will have plenty of company in the rest department as Rivers stated after the win that point guard Chris Paul, center DeAndre Jordan, power forward Blake Griffin and backup shooting guard Jamal Crawford also will sit out.
ABOUT THE SUNS (22-59): Forward P.J. Tucker has modest averages of 7.9 points and 6.2 rebounds but always impresses with his effort, as indicated when he won the franchise’s Majerle Hustle Award for the fourth consecutive season. The award is named after former three-time All-Star Dan Majerle, who is now the head coach of Grand Canyon University, and Majerle likes what he sees when he studies Tucker. “He’s the kind of guy who knows he has to play hard,” Majerle told reporters after presenting Tucker with the award. “He’s all about the team — whatever it takes to make the team win. That’s the kind of player I was. It just kind of solidifies what the word (hustle) is all about.”
BUZZER BEATERS
1. The Clippers have won nine of the past 10 meetings but Phoenix’s one win during the stretch occurred this season.
2. Phoenix F Mirza Teletovic is averaging 22.3 points in April and has topped 20 points in five of the six games.
3. Los Angeles has held three of its last five opponents below 85 points.
PREDICTION: Clippers 118, Suns 107
