    Preview: Calgary at Buffalo
When: 7:00 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
Where: First Niagara Center, Buffalo, New York
Two teams looking toward the future will have several outstanding young players on display when the Buffalo Sabres host the Calgary Flames on Thursday. The Sabres are 1-3-1 in their last five games to stand 15th in the Eastern Conference and the Flames have dropped six straight (0-5-1) to fall out of contention for a playoff spot in the West.
Jack Eichel, Buffalo’s 19-year-old center, boasts 17 goals and 41 points but has gone five games without a point without injured captain Ryan O’Reilly in the lineup. The Sabres have managed four goals in the past four contests after a 2-1 overtime loss to Edmonton on Tuesday. Calgary’s 22-year-old leading scorer Johnny Gaudreau (24 goals, 39 assists) saw his eight-game point streak come to an end in Tuesday’s 2-1 loss at Boston. Gaudreau’s 21-year-old center Sean Monahan reached 20 goals for the third straight season Monday in Philadelphia and the former sixth overall pick owns five points in his last five outings.
    TV: 7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet 360 (Calgary), MSG-B (Buffalo)
ABOUT THE FLAMES (26-33-4): While Gaudreau and Monahan lead the way, defensemen T.J. Brodie (40 points, four assists in three games) and captain Mark Giordano (38 points) have also been productive. Jakub Nakladal scored his first NHL goal Tuesday and Jyrki Jokipakka, who had an assist in his debut after being acquired from Dallas on Monday, should get plenty of time to progress with fellow defensemen Dennis Wideman suspended and Kris Russell traded. “I give (Jokipakka) high marks,” Calgary coach Bob Hartley told reporters.
ABOUT THE SABRES (25-31-8): Eichel, the second selection in the 2015 draft, met top pick Connor McDavid in their first game against each other Tuesday and he registered five shots on goal. The Boston University product is second on the team in scoring behind O’Reilly (49 points), who is likely out until mid March with a lower-body injury. Robin Lehner has managed only four victories in 14 decisions in net, but is posting solid numbers with a 2.29 goals-against average and .933 save percentage after allowing five goals in the last three games.
    OVERTIME
    1. Calgary has allowed four power-play goals in the past three games and stands last in the league in penalty killing (72.8 percent).
    2. Buffalo C Sam Reinhart, who tops the team with 18 goals, has two assists in his past three contests.
    3. The Flames have won four of the past five meetings, including a 4-3 triumph in Calgary on Dec. 10.
    PREDICTION: Sabres 4, Flames 3

      Preview: Chicago at Boston
When: 7:00 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
      Where: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
The Boston Bruins close out a three-game homestand by meeting the top teams in each conference, starting with a visit from the Western-leading Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday. The Bruins, who host the Eastern-best Washington Capitals on Saturday, have won three of their last four contests – allowing one goal in each triumph.
Boston trails Atlantic Division-leading Florida by four points and is two behind second-place Tampa Bay after edging Calgary 2-1 on Tuesday, when leading scorer Patrice Bergeron netted the go-ahead goal. Chicago leads the West by two points after Wednesday’s 5-2 victory at Detroit, which followed a 3-2 triumph over the Capitals on Sunday. Patrick Kane pushed his league-leading point total to 88, scoring his seventh goal in 11 games while adding a pair of assists versus the Red Wings, and Corey Crawford posted his career-high 34th victory. Chicago has triumphed in four of its last six contests, totaling 20 goals in the victories.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, TVA, CSN Chicago, NESN (Boston)
ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (40-20-5): Defenseman Brent Seabrook registered a goal and two assists Wednesday to reach 40 points for the third time in his career. The 30-year-old was not one of the first 16 players chosen for Team Canada’s roster in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey despite his career high of 13 goals, but fellow blue-liner Duncan Keith (40 points) was named to the squad. Andrew Ladd has recorded a goal and an assist in his first two games back with Chicago after being acquired last week.
ABOUT THE BRUINS (35-23-6): Defenseman John-Michael Liles and Lee Stempniak, who were acquired in separate trades on Monday, made their debuts on Tuesday. Stempniak scored 16 goals with New Jersey and has notched 41 points on the season – his highest total since registering 48 with Phoenix and Toronto in 2009-10. Liles amassed six goals, nine assists and a minus-3 rating with Carolina before being added to a Boston defense that ranks in the bottom half of the league in goals allowed.
      OVERTIME
      1. Chicago RW Dale Weise, who was acquired from Montreal last week, could make his debut Thursday after clearing up visa problems.
      2. Boston coach Claude Julien is one victory away from tying Art Ross (387) for the most regular-season wins in team history.
      3. The Original Six rivals split a pair of games last season, with each club winning on the road.
      PREDICTION: Blackhawks 4, Bruins 3

        Preview: Edmonton at Philadelphia

When: 7:00 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
After seeing his rookie season interrupted by a serious injury sustained against the Philadelphia Flyers, Connor McDavid will look to exact a measure of revenge when his Edmonton Oilers visit the City of Brotherly Love on Thursday. The top overall pick of the 2015 draft, McDavid began the season with a flourish before suffering a broken clavicle in the Oilers’ 4-2 win over the Flyers on Nov. 3.
McDavid has picked up where he left off following a three-month absence, highlighted by recording his third multi-goal performance of the season on Tuesday when he scored in overtime to lead Edmonton to a 2-1 victory over Buffalo. “It’s important for us, in this next month, to keep having something to play for,” the 19-year-old McDavid said. Philadelphia certainly has plenty for which to play, as it has won the first three contests of its season-high six-game homestand to move within three points of Pittsburgh for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. “We have three more home games; we need to get six more points. We’ve got Edmonton coming in Thursday, and it is not going to be an easy test for us,” said Brayden Schenn, who increased his point total to six in the homestand by notching his first career hat trick in the Flyers’ 5-3 win over Calgary on Monday.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, RSW (Edmonton), CSN Philadelphia
ABOUT THE OILERS (24-34-7): Taylor Hall traditionally has feasted on the Flyers, scoring a goal and setting up two others in the last meeting, and has four tallies and as many assists in five career encounters. The top overall pick of the 2010 draft could certainly use the jolt as he has just four points (two goals, two assists) in his last 13 games overall. Jordan Eberle, who is tied with Hall for the team in goals (20), is riding a three-game point streak and has 17 (nine goals, eight assists) in his last 15 contests.
ABOUT THE FLYERS (29-22-11): While McDavid (17 points in 14 February games) edged defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere (13 points in 15 games) for NHL Rookie of the Month honors, the latter is looking to test his mettle against the flashy forward. “It’s going to be fun,” Gostisbehere told Philly.com. “Just facing (Buffalo’s Jack) Eichel the other week was pretty fun. They’re both tremendous players.” Gostisbehere had yet to be recalled from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League when the teams last met in early November.
        OVERTIME
        1. Philadelphia is 7-1-2 in its last 10 games versus non-playoff teams.
        2. Edmonton is 0-for-16 on the power play in the last seven contests.
        3. Flyers G Michal Neuvirth, who stopped 45 shots in the first meeting with the Oilers, is 6-1-2 in his last nine appearances overall.
        PREDICTION: Flyers 3, Oilers 2

          Preview: NY Rangers at Pittsburgh

When: 7:00 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
Where: Consol Energy Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Henrik Lundqvist celebrated his 34th birthday on Wednesday by being named to Team Sweden’s preliminary roster for the World Cup of Hockey. “The King” will look to continue the party on Thursday as the red-hot New York Rangers visit the Metropolitan Division-rival Pittsburgh Penguins.
Lundqvist, who was a bystander in New York’s 2-1 victory over Columbus on Sunday, turned aside all 34 shots he faced in a 3-0 win over Pittsburgh on Feb. 10. While the Rangers are 10-2-1 in their last 13 to reside five points ahead of the third-place Islanders, the Penguins are clinging to a three-point lead over Philadelphia for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh’s Patric Hornqvist continued his hot hand by scoring a goal in a 3-2 setback to Washington on Tuesday, one day removed from recording his first career hat trick in a 6-0 rout of Arizona. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby notched four assists over the last two contests, but saw his franchise goal-streak end at seven games in the first meeting with New York.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), ROOT (Pittsburgh)
ABOUT THE RANGERS (37-20-6): Derek Stepan, who had an assist versus Pittsburgh in the first meeting, also set up a goal in a 3-2 win over Dallas on Friday before scoring a short-handed tally versus the Blue Jackets. Mats Zuccarello also scored against Columbus and the 28-year-old Norwegian added to his good fortune by being named to the initial roster of Team Europe for the World Cup of Hockey on Wednesday. J.T. Miller, who is enjoying a career season with personal bests in goals (17) and assists (17), qualified for Team North America as well.
ABOUT THE PENGUINS (32-22-8): Evgeni Malkin was named to Team Russia’s preliminary roster for the World Cup of Hockey on Wednesday. The 2012 Hart Trophy winner is no stranger to international competition, having competed in 15 major tournaments – with the last being the World Championship for the silver medal-winning Russians. Defenseman Olli Maatta’s good fortune continued on Wednesday as he was selected to Team Finland’s initial roster just days after signing a six-year contract extension.
          OVERTIME
          1. Pittsburgh G Marc-Andre Fleury is 17-6-2 with four shutouts at home this season.
          1. New York is expected to make an emergency recall from Hartford of the American Hockey League with RW Jesper Fast sidelined by the flu, coach Alain Vigneault told reporters.
          3. The Penguins are 1-for-24 on the power play in the last 11 contests.

            Preview: Minnesota at Toronto

When: 7:30 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
Where: Air Canada Centre, Toronto, Ontario
The Minnesota Wild have taken advantage of the opportunity to climb into a playoff spot and aim to remain there as they kick off a brief two-game road trip Thursday against the cellar-dwelling Toronto Maple Leafs. Minnesota posted a victory over Atlantic Division-leading Florida on Sunday and followed two days later with a 6-3 triumph over Colorado that pushed it past the Avalanche for the second wild card in the Western Conference.
Charlie Coyle has been a pleasant surprise for the Wild this season, reaching the 20-goal plateau for the first time in his career after tallying twice in the third period against Colorado to snap a 3-3 tie and give him 21 tallies. Toronto attempts to halt a three-game skid as it begins a four-game homestand. Year One of the Mike Babcock Era cannot end soon enough for the Maple Leafs, who have lost seven of their last eight contests and fell to 5-16-3 since a three-game winning streak that bridged December and January with Wednesday’s 3-2 setback at Washington. Minnesota is looking to complete a sweep of the two-game season series after posting a 1-0 shutout at home on Dec. 3 behind a 28-save effort from Devan Dubnyk.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FSN North and FSN Wisconsin (Minnesota), Sportsnet Ontario (Toronto)
ABOUT THE WILD (29-25-10): Nino Niederreiter may be peaking at the right time as the right wing has scored three goals in his last three games after netting two over his previous 11 contests. The 23-year-old’s two-goal performance versus the Avalanche raised his season total to 14 – 10 shy of his career high set last season. Jason Zucker (concussion) and defenseman Jonas Brodin (foot), who respectively have missed five and 13 games, could return to the lineup Thursday while David Jones, who was acquired from Calgary at Monday’s trade deadline, may make his debut for Minnesota.
ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (21-31-10): Nikita Soshnikov is hoping Thursday’s game will not be as bittersweet as the one Wednesday, when he scored his first career goal but committed a boarding penalty (his third minor of the contest) midway through the third period that led to the winning goal by Washington’s Matt Niskanen. Brooks Laich and defenseman Connor Carrick made their debuts for the Maple Leafs after being acquired from the Capitals, with the latter notching an assist for his first point since Feb. 6, 2014. Toronto, which is hosting the 2016 World Cup of Hockey that begins in September, will be represented in the tournament by Leo Komarov (Team Finland) and blue-liner Morgan Rielly (Team North America).
            OVERTIME
            1. The Wild have been riding a roller coaster on the road, following a four-game skid with three-game winning streak before losing their last two.
            2. Toronto is beginning a stretch during which it plays 10 of its next 12 contests at home.
            3. Minnesota will have five representatives in the World Cup as Zach Parise and Ryan Suter were named to Team USA, captain Mikko Koivu and Mikael Granlund to Team Finland and Thomas Vanek to Team Europe.
PREDICTION: Wild 3, Maple Leafs 1

              Preview: Tampa Bay at Ottawa

When: 7:30 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
Where: Canadian Tire Centre, Ottawa, Ontario
The Ottawa Senators must put together a similar run to last season if they are to reach the playoffs again as they prepare to host the red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday. The Senators are 5-1-1 in their last seven contests to pull within five points of the final playoff spot in the East and Tampa Bay has won seven straight games.
Ottawa, which went 16-3-3 over the final two months last season, may have to continue its surge without No. 1 goaltender Craig Anderson after he suffered a lower-body injury in the 4-3 shootout loss to St. Louis on Tuesday. The Lightning have been especially strong in the defensive end, allowing seven goals in the last six games and no power-play tallies in the same span. “It shows you when we’re worrying about our side of the puck that we’re a tough team to beat,” Tampa Bay right wing Ryan Callahan told reporters. “It seems like we’re playing our best hockey when we do that.” Goalie Ben Bishop has played a big part as well, leading the league in goals-against average (2.06) after four straight wins.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), RDS and TSN5 (Ottawa)
ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (37-22-4): Captain Steven Stamkos saw his six-game goal-scoring streak come to an end in the 2-1 victory at Toronto on Monday, but he has recorded seven in the past 10 contests to lead the team with 28. Nikita Kucherov reached 50 points for the second straight season with an assist Monday and is one point behind Stamkos for the team lead. While steady Jason Garrison returned from the injured list last game, fellow defenseman Andrej Sustr missed practice Wednesday with an undisclosed injury and is day-to-day.
ABOUT THE SENATORS (30-27-7): Ottawa recalled goalie Chris Driedger from Binghamton of the American Hockey League to backup Andrew Hammond if Anderson cannot go Thursday. With Kyle Turris (lower body) gone for the season, the Senators signed center Scott Gomez on Wednesday for depth after the veteran scored 24 points in 18 games on a tryout with Hershey of the American Hockey League. Defenseman Erik Karlsson, who has three assists in the last two games, leads all defensemen in the league and the team overall with 68 points.
              OVERTIME
              1. The Senators knocked off the Lightning 5-1 on Feb. 8 at home after dropping two at Tampa Bay in December.
              2. Ottawa RW Mark Stone owns two goals and five assists during a four-game point streak and scored twice last time out against Tampa Bay.
              3. Callahan has registered half of his 10 goals on the season in the last eight contests.
              PREDICTION: Senators 4, Lightning 3

                Preview: New Jersey at Nashville
When: 8:00 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
                Where: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tennessee
With a five-game road trip looming on the horizon, the surging Nashville Predators go for their season-high sixth consecutive victory when they host the sliding New Jersey Devils on Thursday night. Nashville is riding a 10-game point streak (7-0-3) to seize a firm hold on the seventh slot in the Western Conference, seven points ahead of No. 8 Minnesota.
The Predators received a boost along the blue line with the return of captain Shea Weber, who scored a goal and set up two others in a 5-3 win over Dallas following a three-game absence. Weber’s tally set a franchise record for power-play points (182) set by Kimmo Timonen. “He was terrific,” Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said. “We were being safe in making sure that Shea was ready. We didn’t want to force the issue. We didn’t want to go backwards. We got to a point where he felt good.” New Jersey has dropped three in a row and six of its last seven games (1-6-0) and is seven points out of the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, MSG-Plus2 (New Jersey), FSN Tennessee (Nashville), NHL.TV
ABOUT THE DEVILS (30-27-7): Already without Michael Cammalleri for the past 14 games, New Jersey traded leading scorer Lee Stempniak at Monday’s trade deadline and has been outscored 13-2 during its three-game skid. Forward Devante Smith-Pelly, acquired from Montreal in exchange for Stefan Matteau on Monday, is expected to make his team debut along with defenseman David Warsofsky, who was picked up off waivers from Pittsburgh. Smith-Pelly is expected to play on a line with Reid Boucher and Adam Henrique, who notched his 20th goal in Tuesday’s 3-1 loss at Carolina.
ABOUT THE PREDATORS (32-21-11): Veteran center Mike Fisher is scheduled to be the 23rd active player to appear in his 1,000th career game against New Jersey. “Sometimes you throw out clichés like ‘role model’ too loosely, but I think for Mike, it’s a perfect fit,” Predators general manager David Poile said. “When we got him, it clearly was a difference (for) our franchise — the way we played, the way we conducted ourselves.” Goaltender Pekka Rinne, named to Team Finland for the 2016 World Cup on Wednesday, is 5-0-1 with a pair of shutouts in his past six starts.
                OVERTIME
                1. Predators F Filip Forsberg, who has two hat tricks in the past four games, was named the NHL’s Third Star of the Month for February.
                2. Devils G Keith Kinkaid, who allowed two goals in a 3-1 loss to Nashville on Oct. 13, will make a rare start Thursday.
                3. Rinne is 3-2-1 with a 1.95 goals-against average versus New Jersey.

                  Preview: NY Islanders at Winnipeg
When: 8:00 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
                  Where: MTS Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba
A season-long seven-game road trip has not slowed the New York Islanders, who visit the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday looking to win for the fifth time in six games since leaving home. The Islanders used a strong performance from goaltender Thomas Greiss in Tuesday’s 3-2 victory at Vancouver, moving three points ahead of Pittsburgh for third place in the Metropolitan Division.
“I don’t think it was our best game, but good teams win anyway and we found a way,” Greiss told reporters after making 31 saves in his first action since Feb. 18, improving to 6-0-1 in his past seven starts. The Jets opened a five-game homestand with their eighth defeat in their past nine home contests — a 3-2 loss Tuesday to Florida after a 2-1 lead evaporated in the first four minutes of a lackluster third period. “We can’t take any shifts off,” Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien told reporters after the game, in which he scored his 16th goal of the season. “It’s the NHL. You’ve got to be here to work, ready to win.” The Jets have done far too little winning the past two months, losing for the 16th time in 24 games since Jan. 3.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, MSG Plus (New York), TSN3 (Winnipeg)
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (34-20-7): Greiss has been fantastic in his first season with New York, leading the NHL with a .931 save percentage while ranking sixth with a 2.18 goals-against average through Tuesday in posting a 17-6-3 record. Defenseman Thomas Hickey contributed a goal and an assist to Monday’s victory, and the Islanders have allowed two goals or fewer in four of the first five games of the road trip. Rookie center Shane Prince played 13:07 in his Islanders debut after being acquired from Ottawa at the trade deadline.
ABOUT THE JETS (26-32-4): Winnipeg’s offense continues to sputter, scoring two goals or fewer for the seventh time in the past 10 games on Tuesday, and its season-long struggle on special teams continued by allowing the tying goal on the power play. Goaltender Ondrej Pavelec only faced 22 shots but allowed three goals en route to his fourth consecutive defeat (0-3-1). The Jets made the playoffs last season but entered Wednesday tied with Calgary for 12th in the Western Conference, 12 points out of the final wild-card spot and only one point ahead of last-place Edmonton.
                  OVERTIME
                  1. The Jets have been outscored 66-51 in the third period this season.
                  2. New York C Casey Cizikas has a five-game point streak (two goals, three assists), and has recorded three goals and six assists in his past nine contests.
                  3. Winnipeg’s other goal Tuesday came from C Andrew Copp, who snapped a 45-game goal drought with his second tally of the season.

                    Preview: Florida at Colorado
When: 9:00 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
                    Where: Pepsi Center, Denver, Colorado
The Florida Panthers are trying to hold off intrastate rival Tampa Bay for first place in the Atlantic Division as they continue their five-game road trip with a visit to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night. The Panthers improved to 1-1-1 on their trek with a 3-2 victory at Winnipeg on Tuesday to maintain a two-point edge over the Lightning.
Colorado was busy at Monday’s trade deadline, acquiring forward Mikkel Boedker from Arizona and defenseman Eric Gelinas from New Jersey, but their debuts were spoiled by a 6-3 loss at Minnesota. The defeat dropped the Avalanche out of the playoff picture – they are tied for eighth place with the Wild, who have a game in hand. Colorado is opening a four-game homestand against the Panthers and hopes to reverse its fortunes after going 2-4-1 at the Pepsi Center in February. New acquisitions Jiri Hudler and Teddy Purcell made their debuts for Florida in the win at Winnipeg but both players may be unavailable Thursday due to visa issues.
TV: 9 p.m. ET, FSN Florida, Altitude (Colorado), NHL.TV
ABOUT THE PANTHERS (36-19-8): Ageless Jaromir Jagr notched the game-winning goal Tuesday and also pick up a point Wednesday when the NHL credited him with an assist from Saturday’s game versus Columbus, moving the 44-year-old within one point of tying the legendary Gordie Howe (1,849) for third place on the all-time points list. “It’s ridiculous, honestly,” said linemate Reilly Smith, who scored twice against the Jets. “You’ve kind of got to think twice, just because you don’t want to squander the moments you have with pretty much a living legend, right? He’s done a great job for our team this year.”
ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (32-29-4): Goaltender Semyon Varlamov has allowed 11 goals in his last three appearances and was yanked after the first period Tuesday in favor of Calvin Pickard, who will start versus Florida. “I’m not going to throw Varly under the bus here,” Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said. “There’s highs and lows in a career, and those things happen. Right now, it’s a bit tougher time for him, and Pick’s been playing really well.” Also playing really well is veteran forward Jarome Iginla, who netted his 608th career goal Tuesday to tie Dino Ciccarelli for 17th on the NHL career list.
                    OVERTIME

                      Preview: Anaheim at Arizona
When: 9:00 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
Where: Gila River Arena, Glendale, Arizona
If not for a disastrous first month of the season during which it won once in 10 games (1-7-2), the Anaheim Ducks likely would be running away with the Pacific Division and challenging the Washington Capitals for the Presidents’ Trophy. Anaheim, which has pulled even in points with division-leading Los Angeles, looks to stretch its winning streak to double digits when it visits the struggling Arizona Coyotes on Thursday.
The Ducks continued their improbable quest for a fourth consecutive division title with a 3-2 shootout triumph over Montreal on Wednesday that completed a perfect five-game homestand and improved them to 23-4-2 since they last lost back-to-back contests on Dec. 21 and 22. Arizona returns home from a brutal five-game road trip that seriously damaged its postseason chances. The Coyotes lost each contest on their trek, scoring a total of seven goals, and enter Thursday eight points behind Minnesota for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference with 19 games remaining. Arizona won its first three meetings with the Ducks this season before dropping a 5-2 decision in Anaheim on Feb. 5.
TV: 9 p.m. ET, Prime Ticket and FSN San Diego (Anaheim), FSN Arizona Plus
ABOUT THE DUCKS (35-19-8): Captain Ryan Getzlaf had his 11-game point streak halted Wednesday as he failed to land on the scoresheet for only the third time in 23 contests. Simon Despres is day-to-day with the flu, which forced fellow defenseman Clayton Stoner into the lineup Wednesday for the first time since Jan. 15. Anaheim will be well-represented in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey this fall as Getzlaf (Team Canada), Ryan Kesler (Team USA), defenseman Sami Vatanen (Team Finland), and goaltenders John Gibson (Team North America) and Frederik Andersen (Team Europe) were selected to participate.
ABOUT THE COYOTES (27-30-6): Veteran Alex Tanguay practiced Wednesday for the first time since being acquired from Colorado two days earlier and is expected to make his debut for Arizona on Thursday. “I’ll have the same approach I’ve always had – take it one game at a time and prepare as best as possible,” the 36-year-old left wing told the team’s website. “I’m happy. There’s a lot of talent here.” Boyd Gordon (upper body), who has not played since Feb. 4, was upgraded to day-to-day after participating in Wednesday’s practice.
                      OVERTIME
                      1. Coyotes RW Viktor Tikhonov is expected to return to the lineup after missing Monday’s game to be with his wife for the birth of their second child.
                      2. Anaheim has suffered one regulation loss since Jan. 17, going 16-1-1 in that stretch.
                      3. Arizona C Martin Hanzal (Team Czech Republic) and D Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Team Sweden) will represent the club in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey this fall.
                      PREDICTION: Ducks 5, Coyotes 2

                        Preview: San Jose at Vancouver
When: 10:00 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
Where: Rogers Arena, Vancouver, British Columbia
The San Jose Sharks will continue to get to know the Vancouver Canucks in a short amount of time as the Pacific Division rivals play the second of three contests this week with Thursday’s tilt in British Columbia. San Jose began the week with Sunday’s 4-1 victory in Vancouver and will host the Canucks on Saturday before having a home-and-home series to end the month.
Captain Joe Pavelski scored a goal and set up another on Sunday before recording two tallies and an assist the following night as the Sharks improved to 7-2-2 in their last 11 contests with a 6-2 win over Montreal. While San Jose is four points out of first place, Vancouver has dropped two in a row and six of eight to reside eight points behind Minnesota for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. “We know we want to create a culture where it’s not good enough to lose, and that’s what we’re trying to do even though there’s been a lot of losing,” captain Henrik Sedin said. Twin brother Daniel Sedin scored in the Canucks’ loss to the Sharks and again in the 3-2 setback to the New York Islanders on Tuesday, extending his point total to 10 (three goals, seven assists) in his last eight games.
TV: 10 p.m. ET, CSN California (San Jose), Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver)
ABOUT THE SHARKS (34-22-6): Joe Thornton had an assist versus Vancouver before scoring a goal and setting up two others against the Canadiens for his fourth three-point performance of the season. Brent Burns notched his third three-point effort of the campaign against Montreal, with his 21 goals leading all defensemen and his 54 points trailing only Ottawa captain Erik Karlsson among blue liners. Martin Jones, who made 23 saves in the first meeting with the Canucks, is 7-2-1 in his last 10 outings.
ABOUT THE CANUCKS (24-26-12): The Sedins joined goaltender Jacob Markstrom in being named to Team Sweden’s preliminary roster for the World Cup of Hockey on Wednesday. “We have such an offensive team, I’m looking forward to it,” Daniel Sedin said. While the 35-year-old Swede has been finding the net with regularity, the rest of the Canucks have not – to the tune of the team scoring 29 goals in the last 13 games.
                        OVERTIME
                        1. With his next goal, Pavelski (29 tallies, 32 assists) will reach the 30-goal, 30-assist plateau for the fourth time in five seasons.
                        2. The Sharks have won eight straight in Vancouver, including the playoffs.
                        3. San Jose D Marc-Edouard Vlasic needs one assist to match his career high of 30, set during the 2008-09 season.
                        PREDICTION: Sharks 5, Canucks 2

                          Preview: Montreal at Los Angeles
When: 10:30 PM ET, Thursday, March 3, 2016
Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California
The Los Angeles Kings kick off a five-game homestand when they meet the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday and must put Sunday’s 4-2 loss in Anaheim behind them while not looking ahead to Saturday afternoon’s meeting with their red-hot Pacific Division rival. Los Angeles owned a 15-point lead on Jan. 2 as it bids for its first division title since capturing the Smythe Division crown in 1990-91 but has seen the Ducks draw even with 20 games remaining.
The Kings are 4-3-1 in their last eight games despite not scoring more than two goals during that span, which coincides with power forward Milan Lucic’s pointless streak – his longest drought since a 19-game slump during his rookie season with Boston in 2007-08. Los Angeles acquired Kris Versteeg (11 goals, 33 points in 63 games this season) from Carolina on Sunday and the gritty forward, who won two Stanley Cups with Chicago, could provide an offensive spark. “I think he gives us some depth and the ability to finish and play all positions for us,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter told reporters. Montreal fell to 0-1-1 on its four-game road trip with a 3-2 shootout loss to Anaheim on Wednesday and trails Pittsburgh by six points for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, Sportsnet East, RDS (Montreal), FSN West (Los Angeles)
ABOUT THE CANADIENS (30-28-6): Alex Galchenyuk has scored five of his 19 goals in his last four games after netting two Wednesday and is one shy of matching his career high set last season. Defenseman Morgan Ellis made his NHL debut versus Anaheim and recorded two shots in 10:31 of ice time while his boarding penalty led to a power-play goal. Stefan Matteau played his first game in a Montreal sweater after being acquired from New Jersey prior to Monday’s trade deadline and was minus-1 in 8:39.
ABOUT THE KINGS (37-21-4): Versteeg is expected to be a top-nine forward and a solid replacement down the stretch for Marian Gaborik (knee), who could return near the end of the regular season. Lucic isn’t the only one slumping as Tyler Toffoli (team-best 24 goals) has scored once in his last 11 games and Jeff Carter (15 goals) continues to have an off-year after averaging 27 tallies in the last three seasons and is two shy of 300. Defenseman Rob Scuderi, who won the Stanley Cup with Los Angeles in 2014, has notched an assist and is plus-1 in two games since being re-acquired from Chicago on Friday.
                          OVERTIME
                          1. The Kings are in a stretch where they play eight of nine at home.
                          2. Montreal is 15-for-16 on the penalty kill in its last six games.
                          3. Los Angeles won the first meeting of the two-game season series 3-0 on Dec. 17 behind 45 saves by Jonathan Quick.
                          PREDICTION: Kings 3, Canadiens 2
