NHL notebook: Notre Dame open to hosting outdoor game

The NHL is exploring the option of hosting an outdoor hockey game at Notre Dame where the Chicago Blackhawks spend their training camp each season on the campus.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the Blackhawks could play in a regular-season game at Notre Dame Stadium in a few years.
A construction project to remake the area around Notre Dame Stadium is underway and the Campus Crossroads project will be completed in the summer of 2017.
Sportsnet reported Saturday that the NHL was exploring the option at Notre Dame and Fighting Irish athletic director Jack Swarbrick told the Chicago Tribune the school would have interest in hosting an outdoor game.
However, Swarbrick said no talks have taken place with the NHL.
--The Edmonton Oilers signed defenseman Brandon Davidson and goaltender Laurent Brossoit to two-year contract extensions, the club announced.
Davidson's deal is worth $2.85 million, according to published reports. Brossoit's pact is worth $1.5 million.
Edmonton also claimed winger Adam Cracknell (Vancouver) and defenseman Adam Pardy (Winnipeg) off waivers.
The Oilers also assigned left winger Jujhar Khaira and defenseman Jordan Oesterle to Bakersfield.
---The Tampa Bay Lightning reassigned defenseman Matt Taormina to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League.
Taormina, 29, has skated in one game with the Lightning this season.
--The Boston Bruins assigned forwards Max Talbot, Zac Rinaldo and Joonas Kemppainen to Providence of the American Hockey League, the team.
Talbot played in 36 games with Boston this season, collecting two goals and four assists. Rinaldo has one goal and two assists in 52 games with Boston this season, and Kemppainen has two goals and three assists in 44 games with the Bruins.
--The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled forwards William Nylander, Kasperi Kapanen, Nikita Soshnikov, Zach Hyman and Ben Smith and defenseman Conor Carrick from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
In addition, forwards Mark Arcobello, Brendan Leipsic and Josh Leivo were loaned to the Marlies.
---The St. Louis Blues assigned forward Ty Rattie to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, the team announced.
Rattie, 23, has dressed in 42 games for the Wolves this season, posting 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) and 16 penalty minutes.
--The Los Angeles Kings assigned forward Michael Mersch to the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League, the team announced.
The 23-year-old Mersch appeared in 17 games this season with the Kings, recording three points (one goal and two assists).
--The Detroit Red Wings recalled goaltender Jared Coreau from Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League, the team announced.
Coreau, 24, ranked among league leaders with 26 wins, a 2.27 goals-against average, a 0.928 save percentage and four shutouts in 39 games played.
