    Preview: NY Rangers at Dallas
When: 4:00 PM ET, Saturday, February 27, 2016
Where: American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas
After knocking off one Central Division power, the New York Rangers will try to take down another when they visit the Dallas Stars on Saturday night in the finale of a three-game road trip. New York improved to 8-2-1 in the last 11 contests with a 2-1 victory at St. Louis on Thursday to maintain its hold on second place in the Metropolitan Division.
Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 35 shots against the Blues to become the first goaltender to notch at least 30 wins in 10 of his first 11 NHL seasons. “It’s tight in the standings. You need to make the most of every game here. You can’t take anything for granted, and that’s why I’m trying to prepare like it’s the playoffs right now.” Dallas has dropped four of its last five (1-3-1) but maintains a one-point edge atop the Central. The Stars’ recent defensive woes continued as they suffered a 6-3 loss to visiting Winnipeg on Thursday in the back end of a home-and-home.
TV: 4 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), FSN Southwest (Dallas)
ABOUT THE RANGERS (35-20-6): New York could be short-handed for Saturday’s game after forward Jesper Fast was hit in the left cheek during Friday’s practice and had to leave the ice with a gash under his left eye. Fast required assistance from his teammates and trainers, putting his availability in doubt for the Rangers, who have only 12 forwards on the trip and may have to use rookie defenseman Dylan McIlrath up front. The Rangers continue to have issues with their penalty-killing unit, permitting seven power-play goals over the past seven games.
ABOUT THE STARS (38-18-6): Jason Spezza scored twice in Thursday’s loss and has three goals in his last two games, but he was not feeling positive vibes after watching Dallas surrender 22 goals over the past four games. “It starts with my line,” Spezza said after Thursday’s loss. “We were on the ice for three even-strength goals (against). It’s embarrassing. We’ve got to cut down our goals against, we’ve got to help our goalies out, we’ve got to play better hockey.” Tyler Seguin netted his 32nd goal Thursday but he has tallied only once in 16 games versus New York.
    OVERTIME
    1. Lundqvist improved to 6-4-0 against Dallas with a 6-2 win on Jan. 5.
    2. The Stars are 4-for-9 on the power play in the past two games.
    3. Andy Bathgate, a Hall of Famer who played most of his career with New York, passed away Friday at the age of 83.
    PREDICTION: Rangers 3, Stars 2

      Preview: Toronto at Montreal
When: 7:00 PM ET, Saturday, February 27, 2016
      Where: Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec
The Montreal Canadiens haven’t had much go right after a strong start this season, but they can extend their dominance against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday when the Original Six rivals meet at the Bell Centre. Montreal, which is 2-0-1 after a disastrous 8-23-1 stretch, has won all three encounters with Tornoto this season and nine in a row overall.
Brendan Gallagher scored in his second straight game to increase his point total to eight (five goals, three assists) in nine contests as the Canadiens posted a 4-3 victory over Washington on Thursday. “We’ve been through some stuff here in the last (couple of) months but we still believe we’re a pretty good hockey team,” the 23-year-old Gallagher said. Toronto hardly is that, but former Canadien P.A. Parenteau scored and set up a goal on Thursday to help the team snap a four-game skid with a 3-1 triumph over Carolina. “I wish he’d slow it down a little bit so we could keep him,” fellow forward Nazem Kadri said of Parenteau, who could be playing in his final contest for his current team with the trade deadline on the horizon (Monday).
TV: 7 p.m. ET, CBC, TVA, CITY (Montreal)
ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (21-28-10): Josh Leivo has picked up where he left off prior to suffering an upper-body injury on Feb. 11. The 22-year-old extended his goal-scoring streak to four contests by recording his first career game-winning tally on Thursday. Veteran Brad Boyes, who also scored versus the Hurricanes, has two goals and four assists in the last seven contests.
ABOUT THE CANADIENS (29-27-5): Montreal continues to see its blue line decimated by the injury bug as Nathan Beaulieu is expected to be out two-to-three weeks with a lower-body ailment. The 17th overall pick of the 2011 draft, Beaulieu suffered the injury during Monday’s 2-1 shootout loss to Nashville and joins fellow defensemen Jeff Petry (sports hernia) and Tom Gilbert (knee) on the sideline. Carey Price practiced on Friday, but the reigning Hart and Vezina Trophy recipient is not expected to travel with the team on its upcoming road trip.
      OVERTIME
      1. Montreal C Alex Galchenyuk, who tallied twice versus the Capitals, recorded a goal and an assist in the season series with Toronto.
      2. The Maple Leafs have scored a power-play goal in back-to-back contests after going 1-for-20 in the previous five.
      3. Canadiens rookie G Mike Condon has yielded just six goals in his last three games (2-0-1), matching the sum total of his previous performance versus Arizona on Feb. 15.
PREDICTION: Canadiens 3, Maple Leafs 1

        Preview: Detroit at Colorado
When: 8:00 PM ET, Saturday, February 27, 2016
        Where: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado
The Colorado Avalanche appear to be back on track after stumbling out of the All-Star break with four straight losses and should get a huge emotional lift from a raucous crowd at Coors Field on Saturday night when they host the Detroit Red Wings as part of the NHL Stadium Series. Colorado has won five of seven and holds down No. 8 spot in the Western Conference.
Practice conditions were hardly optimum Friday with temperatures in the 60s and glare from the sun causing issues for both teams. “It was just the sun. It will be fine tomorrow,” Avalanche center Matt Duchene said Friday. “The sun is so warm here. We knew it was going to happen.” Detroit, which halted a four-game skid (0-2-2) with a 2-1 shootout win over Columbus on Tuesday, was limited to 20 minutes in practice due to the condition of the ice. “If it got any worse (tomorrow), there’s no way we could play,” Red Wings center Darren Helm said.
        TV: 8 p.m. ET; NBC, Sportsnet, TVA2
ABOUT THE RED WINGS (30-20-11): Detroit is receiving reinforcements on the blue line with defenseman Niklas Kronwall back in the lineup Tuesday following an absence of more than five weeks and the expected return of Jonathan Ericsson (lower body) on Saturday after missing the past six games. The Red Wings have allowed only three regulation goals in the past three games but have scored just three times in that span. Riley Sheahan ended a 17-game point drought dating to Jan. 10 with the lone regulation goal versus Columbus before converting in the shootout.
ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (32-27-4): Colorado has crawled back into postseason contention due to its success in nail-biters — Wednesday’s shootout win over San Jose boosted the team’s record to 14-2-3 in one-goal games since Dec. 1. “We’re improving and now it’s up to us to prove where we stand,” forward Alex Tanguay said. ” We all believe in ourselves, but now is the time where you have to step it up. Now is our time to go out and get it.” Among those narrow victories was a 3-2 shootout win at Detroit on Feb. 12 behind a 43-save performance from Semyon Varlamov.
        OVERTIME
        1. Varlamov is 2-5-0 with a 2.86 goals-against average versus Detroit.
        2. Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg has four assists in two outdoor games.
        3. Avalanche F Jarome Iginla needs one goal to tie Dino Ciccarelli (608) for 17th place on the all-time list.
PREDICTION: Avalanche 3, Red Wings 2

          Preview: Ottawa at Calgary
When: 10:00 PM ET, Saturday, February 27, 2016
          Where: Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta
Time is running out on the Ottawa Senators as they complete a three-game road trip through western Canada against the Calgary Flames on Saturday. Ottawa had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 5-3 loss to Vancouver on Thursday and sits four points behind Pittsburgh for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with 20 games remaining in its bid to reach the Stanley Cup playoffs.
“We’ve got to win,” the Senators’ Mark Stone told reporters after scoring a short-handed goal Thursday. “I don’t think we thought we were going to win the next 20 games, but one game at a time, we need to start winning. Heading into Calgary, we need to throw this one away. Other teams are winning; we’ve got to find a way, too.” Calgary has lost three straight and is 1-5-1 in its last seven games after a 2-1 overtime setback to the New York Islanders on Thursday and is tied for the second-fewest points in the Western Conference. The Flames are expected to sell with Monday’s trade deadline looming as defenseman Kris Russell could be an attractive pickup for a playoff contender as might forwards Jiri Hudler, who scored Thursday, and Joe Colborne. “You just have to remember that it’s completely out of your control,” Colborne told reporters about trade rumors. “… We get paid really well to play a game that we love and this is one of the drawbacks of it.”
          TV: 10 p.m. ET, CBC
ABOUT THE SENATORS (29-27-6): Mike Hoffman (team-high 25 goals) and Bobby Ryan (21) each scored Thursday while Ryan was a minus-3 and is minus-13 in 12 February games. Kyle Turris (13 goals, 30 points) hasn’t scored in 25 games while playing through a lower-body injury and hasn’t recorded a point in 14 contests. Clarke MacArthur, who missed all but the first four games with a concussion, made the trip and is skating with the team but his return does not appear imminent.
ABOUT THE FLAMES (26-30-4): Russell has missed the last six games because of an lower-body injury but could return just in time to make a final audition for a potential suitor. Johnny Gaudreau has 22 goals and 37 assists – both team highs – while riding a six-game point streak (one goal, seven assists). Center Sean Monahan (18 goals) has four tallies and eight assists in 11 February games after recording an assist Thursday.
          OVERTIME
          1. Calgary (73.6 percent) and Ottawa (74.6) have the worst penalty-killing units in the NHL while the Flames are second-worst on the power play at 15.8 percent.
          2. Senators D Dion Phaneuf had two assists Thursday and has a goal and five assists in eight games since being acquired from Toronto on Feb. 9.
          3. The home team has won six straight meetings after Ottawa’s 5-4 shootout victory Oct. 28 in the first encounter of the two-game season series.
          PREDICTION: Flames 3, Senators 2
