    Re: NHL Betting info. 2/18

Wiseguys share the hottest spot bet opportunities of the week
    By BEN BURNS

    Schedule spot

Returning home from an extended road trip can be tough. Girlfriends, wives, friends, bills (regular life) all need to be attended to and can often prove distracting. On Thursday the 18th the Maple Leafs will be playing their first game in Toronto in two full weeks. Much has happened over that span, as the team has traded away its captain, while traveling across the continent.

The last time that the Leafs returned from a West Coast trip, they were defeated by lowly Columbus, in their first game back. The Hurricanes are 10-4 their last 14 visits here, including wins in each of the last two. They won here 1-0 in January and 4-1 here last season. Consider Carolina on Thursday.

        Preview: Washington at NY Islanders
When: 7:00 PM ET, Thursday, February 18, 2016
Where: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York
The Washington Capitals began a stretch of winning six of their last seven games with a 3-2 home victory over the New York Islanders on Feb. 4. The NHL-leading Capitals look to continue their good fortune at the Islanders’ expense when the teams reconvene at Barclays Center on Thursday.
Andre Burakovsky scored in that meeting with New York as part of his six-goal outburst in five games and also tallied in Washington’s last two contests – a 4-3 setback to Dallas on Saturday and a 3-1 triumph versus Los Angeles three nights later. New York, which is 4-1-0 in its last five games overall, is well-rested after breezing to a 4-1 victory over Detroit on Monday afternoon. Thomas Greiss turned aside 28 shots to record his career-high fifth straight win and improve to 16-6-2 this season. The 30-year-old German could be back between the pipes with Jaroslav Halak struggling mightily since the All-Star break – the former Capital has posted a 1-3-0 mark with a gaudy 4.64 goals-against average and porous .842 save percentage.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, CSMA (Washington), MSG-Plus (New York)
ABOUT THE CAPITALS (41-10-4): Evgeny Kuznetsov also tallied against the Kings for his 16th point (one goal, 15 assists) in his past 11 games. The 23-year-old Russian leads Washington with 57 points while his four game-winning goals trail only Marcus Johansson (seven) and captain Alex Ovechkin (six) for the team lead. Braden Holtby has turned aside 58 of 61 shots to win both outings versus New York and improve to 9-1-2 with a 2.10 goals-against average in his career versus the club.
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (30-19-6): Captain John Tavares set up a goal versus the Red Wings to extend his point streak to six games (four goals, six assists). Tavares’ offense has helped New York outscore its foes by a 22-7 margin en route to winning all four games in Brooklyn this month. The Islanders hope that home cooking continues as they’ll open a seven-game road trip and play 12 of their next 14 away from the Barclays Center.
        OVERTIME
        1. New York LW Josh Bailey, who tallied versus Detroit on Monday, scored and set up a goal in his last meeting with Washington.
        2. The Capitals have scored at least once in the third period in each of the last 20 contests.
        3. The Islanders are 7-for-22 on the power play in the last six games.
        PREDICTION: Islanders 3, Capitals 2

          Preview: Detroit at Pittsburgh
When: 7:00 PM ET, Thursday, February 18, 2016
Where: Consol Energy Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The Pittsburgh Penguins are struggling to find their offense without Evgeni Malkin on the ice. The 2012 Hart Trophy winner is expected to miss his seventh consecutive contest on Thursday with a lower-body injury as the Penguins open a modest two-game homestand against the Detroit Red Wings.
“He skated the last few days and it went well, so the next step is for him to join the team (in practice),” coach Mike Sullivan told the Penguins website. “He’s close.” Pittsburgh has mustered just three goals in its last three contests (1-1-1), with Chris Kunitz netting the lone tally in a 2-1 shootout loss to Florida on Monday. The Penguins’ sputtering offense likely won’t catch much of a break against Petr Mrazek, who is looking to redeem himself after a rare clunker in a 6-5 victory over Boston on Sunday. “He’s got a short memory, which is a positive thing as a goalie,” coach Jeff Blashill told MLive. “… Pittsburgh’s certainly got a lot of firepower, so we’ll need him to be real good.”
TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TVA, FSN Detroit, ROOT (Pittsburgh)
ABOUT THE RED WINGS (29-19-9): Defenseman Niklas Kronwall participated in his first full practice on Wednesday since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Jan. 19. “We can see that he’s making strides and closer to being ready, so we’ll continue to evaluate it day to day,” Blashill told the team website of Kronwall, who is accompanying the team on the three-game road trip but is not expected to play versus Pittsburgh. Fellow defenseman Jonathan Ericsson will also be a spectator on Thursday as he’ll miss his third straight contest with a lower-body injury.
ABOUT THE PENGUINS (28-19-8): Patric Hornqvist scored a goal and set up two others in Pittsburgh’s 5-2 win over Detroit on Dec. 31. The 29-year-old Swede has seven points (two goals, five assists) in his last five encounters with the Red Wings, but just one assist in his last five games overall. Defenseman Kris Letang also recorded a three-point performance (two goals, one assist) versus Detroit in the first meeting, but had just four points – all assists – in his previous 11 encounters with the Red Wings.
          OVERTIME
          1. Pittsburgh has scored at least four goals in seven of the last 10 meetings (6-2-2) with Detroit.
          2. The Red Wings have dropped three in a row on the road to fall to 14-9-3 away from Joe Louis Arena.
          3. Kunitz has 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in his last 12 contests.
PREDICTION: Penguins 3, Red Wings 2

            Preview: NY Rangers at Toronto

When: 7:30 PM ET, Thursday, February 18, 2016
Where: Air Canada Centre, Toronto, Ontario
The New York Rangers will need to regroup quickly if they hope to bounce back from a rare regulation loss as they visit the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. New York, which is four points ahead of the New York Islanders for second place in the Metropolitan Division, failed to earn at least one point for the first time in seven games (5-1-1) Wednesday as it squandered a third-period lead en route to a 5-3 home defeat against Chicago.
Rebounding from a disappointing setback on the road will not be an easy task for the Rangers, however, as they are the only team currently occupying a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a losing record away from home (11-13-3). Getting back in the win column may not be so difficult for the Rangers, though, as they face a Toronto team that is beginning a four-game homestand that follows a 1-4-0 road trip. The unsuccessful trek dropped the Maple Leafs into the basement in the East, but the club has earned points in three straight contests at home (1-0-2). The Rangers are looking to complete a sweep of the three-game season series after posting a pair of victories at home.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), TSN4 (Toronto)
ABOUT THE RANGERS (32-19-6): The Rangers welcomed back their captain Wednesday as Ryan McDonagh returned to the lineup after missing four games with a concussion. The defenseman was in fine form, recording one shot, one block and a plus-1 rating while finishing second on the team in ice time at 24 minutes, 6 seconds. The club hopes to have Marc Staal on the blue line against Toronto as the veteran missed Wednesday’s contest to be with his wife, who gave birth to the couple’s second child.
ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (20-26-9): Toronto likely will miss the postseason for the 10th time in 11 seasons as it sits 15 points out of the final playoff spot in the East, but coach Mike Babcock is hoping the fact his team plays the majority of its remaining games at home will help it end the campaign on a strong note. “We’ve played 23 home games and 32 on the road,” Babcock told reporters Wednesday. “We’ve got the most home games of anybody left – let’s be good.” PA Parenteau is one shy of reaching the 15-goal plateau for the fourth time in his career and first since netting 18 with Colorado in 2012-13.
            OVERTIME
            1. Rangers RW Kevin Hayes has recorded three goals and two assists over his last four games.
            2. Toronto C Leo Komarov leads the team with 18 goals but has scored one in the last six contests.
            3. Rangers LW Rick Nash has missed 10 games with a bone bruise in his leg could be out for at least two more contests.
PREDICTION: Rangers 4, Maple Leafs 2

              Preview: Carolina at Ottawa

When: 7:30 PM ET, Thursday, February 18, 2016
Where: Canadian Tire Centre, Ottawa, Ontario
The Ottawa Senators have a cluster of teams sitting ahead of them in the chase for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference and they get a chance to move closer to one of them when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. The Senators halted a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 shootout victory over visiting Buffalo on Tuesday.
Carolina is within two points of the final postseason berth in the East after running its point streak to five games (3-0-2) with a 2-1 home win over Winnipeg on Tuesday. The Hurricanes will be without All-Star defenseman Justin Faulk, who has been ruled out of the team’s next three games due to an undisclosed injury that sidelined him for the previous three contests. Carolina has dominated the series against Ottawa, going 5-0-2 in the last seven matchups, including a 3-2 overtime win on Nov. 7. “With the position that we’re in, we need to find a way every night to rally for two points and that’s the start of it,” said Senators forward Bobby Ryan, who scored in the shootout versus Buffalo. “Now we need to get ready for a different test.”
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET; FSN Southeast (Carolina), RDS, TSN5 (Ottawa), NHL.TV
ABOUT THE HURRICANES (26-21-10): Faulk was the team’s leading scorer before he went on the shelf, but has been matched by the surging Jordan Staal, who netted a power-play Tuesday to boost his total to six tallies and 19 points over the past 17 games. “I don’t know who’s playing better in the league,” coach Bill Peters said of Staal, who scored in overtime to beat Ottawa in the early-season matchup. “He’s playing valuable, big minutes, and he’s coming through.” Goaltender Cam Ward was at practice Wednesday after missing Tuesday’s game, and a decision will be made on his status Thursday.
ABOUT THE SENATORS (26-26-6): Since getting pierced for 12 goals in losing three consecutive starts, Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson has turned things around by surrendering a total of eight tallies in his last five outings – even though he is only 3-2-0 in that span. Ryan, who has scored seven goals in his last 14 games to reach 20 for the sixth time in his career, has not tallied in 11 career games against the Hurricanes. The Senators own the league’s second-worst penalty kill with a success rate of 74.3 percent, but they also have scored an NHL-best 10 short-handed goals.
              OVERTIME
              1. Hurricanes captain Eric Staal is mired in a 13-game goalless drought.
              2. Anderson is 6-3-4 with a 2.42 goals-against average versus Carolina.
              3. Hurricanes F Riley Nash has four goals and two assists in his last six games.
              PREDICTION: Hurricanes 3, Senators 2

                Preview: Winnipeg at Tampa Bay
When: 7:30 PM ET, Thursday, February 18, 2016
                Where: Amalie Arena, Tampa, Florida
The Tampa Bay Lightning were rolling along during the first five weeks of the calendar year at 11-2-0 while threatening first place in the Atlantic Division but suddenly are in dire need of a victory. The Lightning have dropped four of their last five games, scoring two or fewer goals in each of the losses, as they prepare to host the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.
“I have a lot of faith in this group,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper told reporters. “You go through 82 games, you’re going to go through bumps in the road. We’ve got one more at home before six of seven on the road. We need to have an inspired effort against Winnipeg.” The Jets saw their six-game road point streak (5-0-1) come to an end with a 2-1 loss at Carolina on Tuesday and sit nine points out the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Blake Wheeler has scored in two straight games and recorded a team-high 53 points for Winnipeg, which has been struggling on special teams. The Jets are 1-for-20 with the man advantage over their last four games and allowed two power-play tallies on Tuesday.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, TSN3 (Winnipeg), Sun Sports (Tampa Bay)
ABOUT THE JETS (25-28-3): Wheeler has notched four points in his last three contests and second-leading scorer Bryan Little (48 points) has collected four in a four-game span while Mathieu Perreault has been blanked in four straight. The Jets announced they will be without physical defenseman Mark Stuart for 4-to-6 weeks due to a broken right hand suffered against Edmonton on Saturday. Ondrej Pavelec has been solid in two starts since returning from injured reserve, allowing three goals on 51 shots.
ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (30-22-4): Cooper told reporters the Lightning have been on the wrong side of the puck and cheating defensively during their recent slide. The loss of Jason Garrison (lower body) has hurt the depth on defense while veteran blue-liner Matt Carle was benched late in Tuesday’s game after recording a minus-3 rating in 11:07 of ice time. Nikita Kucherov leads the team in goals (23) and points (48) while captain Steven Stamkos (22 and 42) has tallied just twice in 13 games.
                OVERTIME
                1. The Lightning are 3-1-2 in the last six overall meetings with the Jets but have lost three straight at home in the series.
                2. Winnipeg captain Andrew Ladd is two goals shy of 200 for his career but has been held without a point in four straight games while trade rumors swirl around him.
                3. Tampa Bay C Vladislav Namestnikov (upper body) practiced Wednesday and is considered day-to-day after missing one game.
                PREDICTION: Lightning 5, Jets 1

                  Preview: San Jose at Florida
When: 7:30 PM ET, Thursday, February 18, 2016
                  Where: BB&T Center, Sunrise, Florida
The Atlantic Division-leading Florida Panthers must continue to fight the injury bug when they host the surging San Jose Sharks on Thursday. The Panthers found a way to pull out a 2-1 shootout victory over Pittsburgh on Monday without five key regulars in the lineup and may have to go without them all again versus the Sharks, who are 4-1-1 in their last five contests.
Top center Aleksander Barkov (concussion) is closing in on a return while defensemen Willie Mitchell and Erik Gudbranson (upper body) still might be a few games away for the Panthers, who were 1-3-1 before Monday’s triumph. San Jose is coming off an impressive 4-2 victory at Tampa Bay that began a five-game road trip, improving to a Western Conference-best 19-8-2 away from home. “It’s a veteran group, and right now, there’s a real good confidence level,” Sharks coach Peter DeBoer told reporters. “We’re feeling like we can win every game that we’re playing.” Veteran Joe Thornton is red-hot, producing three goals and six assists during a six-game point streak for San Jose.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, CSN California (San Jose), FSN Florida
ABOUT THE SHARKS (30-20-5): Thornton has notched at least one point in 16 of his last 17 games to reach 50 overall – three behind captain Joe Pavelski for the team lead and two ahead of defenseman Brent Burns, who registered nine shots on Tuesday. Matt Nieto and Joel Ward each recorded a goal and an assist against Tampa Bay as their line with Patrick Marleau combined for five points. “It shows every night, any line can step up and be the game-changer and win games for us,” Thornton told reporters. “It’s been fun to be a part of.”
ABOUT THE PANTHERS (33-18-6): Quinton Howden (upper body) also is day-to-day and fellow forward Brandon Pirri (ankle) is out a few weeks while No. 1 goaltender Roberto Luongo is expected to be rested in favor of Al Montoya for the second straight game. Veteran Jaromir Jagr, who turned 44 on Monday, is tied for the team lead with 40 points and remains two goals shy of tying Brett Hull (741) for third place on the all-time list. Jonathan Huberdeau also has 40 points but has been blanked the last two games.
                  OVERTIME
                  1. Sharks D Marc-Edouard Vlasic has notched a point – all assists – in eight straight games, tying Burns’ franchise record for blue-liners set earlier this season.
                  2. Florida D Brian Campbell is one assist shy of 400 for his career and has recorded four points in his last four games.
                  3. Marleau is scheduled to play his 1,385th game, which will move him past Larry Robinson for 39th in NHL history.
                  PREDICTION: Sharks 4, Panthers 3

Preview: Los Angeles at St. Louis
When: 8:00 PM ET, Thursday, February 18, 2016
Where: Scottrade Center, St. Louis, Missouri
The footsteps are getting louder for the Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles Kings, who continue their seven-game road trip with a visit to the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night. The Kings have dropped three of their past four games to see their lead atop the division whittled to three points over Anaheim and four over San Jose.
Los Angeles erupted for nine goals in a rout of Boston to being its trek but has been limited to two or fewer in its past three defeats, including Tuesday’s 3-1 setback at NHL-best Washington. “Maybe we just scored too many goals in Boston, now we are coming up a bit short,” Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin said. “We just have to capitalize on some chances.” The Blues extended their winning streak to three games with a 2-1 overtime victory over Dallas on Tuesday to draw within five points of the Central Division-leading Stars. St. Louis has split a pair of decisions with Los Angeles this season, with the road team prevailing each time.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN West (Los Angeles), FSN Midwest (St. Louis)
ABOUT THE KINGS (33-20-3): Marian Gaborik was starting to heat up with four goals in a seven-game span before he was placed on injured reserve Saturday and Los Angeles has felt his absence, scoring once in the last two contests. “It just comes down to bearing down and putting pucks in the net, getting more bodies in front and banging in dirty goals,” defenseman Drew Doughty said. “We don’t have to score the pretty goals all the time, just little garbage goals around the net.” Goaltender Jonathan Quick returned from a three-game injury absence with 29 saves at Washington.
ABOUT THE BLUES (33-17-9): Rookie defenseman Joel Edmundson is the only player in the lineup that has yet to score a goal and is mired in a 10-game point drought, but coach Ken Hitchcock has no complaints for the second-round draft pick’s play. “He’s a more fluid player now,” Hitchcock said. “I think things are coming at him a little slower and it shows. He’s got great instincts. He’s not fun to play against and that element in his game is starting to become more consistent and it’s really helping us.” Netminder Brian Elliott has made 15 straight starts since Jake Allen was hurt, posting a 10-3-2 mark.

                      Preview: Boston at Nashville
When: 8:00 PM ET, Thursday, February 18, 2016
                      Where: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tennessee
A pair of teams battling to enhance their Stanley Cup playoff positions clash when the Boston Bruins continue their season-high six-game road trip Thursday against the Nashville Predators. Boston improved to 3-1-0 on its trek and 19-6-3 on the road this season while moving into second in the Atlantic Division – four points clear of fourth-place Tampa Bay – with a 2-1 overtime victory over Columbus on Tuesday after outlasting the worst team in the Metropolitan.
“It was obviously nice to get the result we wanted,” Bruins defenseman Torey Krug told reporters. “It wasn’t pretty by any means whatsoever, but at the end of the day, that doesn’t matter. We’ll move on to the next game and look at those two points.” Nashville fell to 2-3-2 in its last seven games following a 3-2 overtime loss to Dallas on Monday and may have a bit of a goaltending controversy on its hands as it tries to maintain one of the two wild-card spots in the Western Conference. Carter Hutton made his second consecutive start in goal Monday as No. 1 Pekka Rinne (.902 save percentage, 2.57 goals-against average) struggles through an uncharacteristically poor season. “Decisions are hard and they’re every day,” Predators coach Peter Laviolette told reporters.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, Sportsnet 360, NESN (Boston), FSN Tennessee (Nashville)
ABOUT THE BRUINS (31-20-6): Left wing Loui Eriksson tallied in overtime Tuesday to extend his scoring streak to four games and become Boston’s third 20-goal scorer this season. The Bruins got healthier Tuesday with the return of center Patrice Bergeron (22 goals, team-high 48 points), who missed two games with a lower-body injury, and defenseman Adam McQuaid (upper body) – absent for 18 contests. Brad Marchand (club-most 28 goals) saw his seven-game scoring streak halted Tuesday but hasn’t gone consecutive contests without a goal since Jan. 13-15, recording 13 tallies in 14 games since.
ABOUT THE PREDATORS (26-21-10): Filip Forsberg scored Monday for his fifth goal in the last five games, raising his season total to 19 – two behind team leader James Neal. “He’s the type of player that can do that,” Laviolette told reporters about Forsberg’s outburst. “He’s playing the game fast, and he’s attacking the game.” Defenseman Roman Josi leads the Predators in assists (31) and points (42), and has a goal and four assists in his last four games.
                      OVERTIME
                      1. Bergeron needs two points for 600 in his career.
                      2. Boston hasn’t scored a power-play goal in four games and is 1-for-32 over its last nine contests with a man advantage.
                      3. Nashville prevailed 3-2 on Dec. 7 in Boston on Viktor Arvidsson’s goal with 4:56 left in regulation.
                      PREDICTION: Bruins 3, Predators 2

                        Preview: Minnesota at Edmonton
When: 9:00 PM ET, Thursday, February 18, 2016
                        Where: Rexall Place, Edmonton, Alberta
The Minnesota Wild attempt to post their first three-game winning streak since mid-December when they wrap up their road trip against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. Minnesota halted its eight-game slide by opening its trek with a triumph at Vancouver and improved to 2-0-0 under interim coach John Torchetti with Wednesday’s 5-3 victory in Calgary.
Captain Mikko Koivu has recorded five points in as many games to raise his team-leading total to 40 as the Wild have climbed within two points of the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Edmonton fell to 1-1-1 on its season high-tying six-game homestand with Tuesday’s loss to Anaheim and has dropped five of its last six overall (1-4-1). Taylor Hall was one of the Oilers’ few bright spots in their setback against the Ducks as he scored for the first time since Jan. 18 to end a 10-game drought and raise his team-leading total to 19 goals. Edmonton looks to even the three-game season series at one win apiece after losing a 4-3 decision at Minnesota on Oct. 27.
TV: 9 p.m. ET, FSN North, FSN Wisconsin (Minnesota), Sportsnet West (Edmonton)
ABOUT THE WILD (25-22-10): Zach Parise has collected seven points over his last six games but has scored only one of his team-leading 18 goals in his last 10 contests. Minnesota hopes to have Marco Scandella in the lineup Thursday as the defenseman missed the victory over the Flames with an undisclosed injury. Nate Prosser replaced Scandella in the lineup and notched an assist for his first point since Dec. 15.
ABOUT THE OILERS (22-30-6): Edmonton will have a familiar face back on the blue line as Nikita Nikitin was recalled from Bakersfield of the American Hockey League on Wednesday to replace Eric Gryba, who was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury and could miss up to a month. The 29-year-old Nikitin recorded one assist in seven games with the Oilers earlier this season after registering four goals and 10 points over 42 contests in 2014-15. The Oilers also swapped goaltenders with the Condors, recalling Anders Nilsson and demoting Laurent Brossoit.
                        OVERTIME
                        1. Wild D Ryan Suter scored two of his seven goals this season in the first meeting with the Oilers.
                        2. Hall needs one tally to reach the 20-goal plateau for the fourth time in his career.
                        3. Minnesota G Devan Dubnyk has won his last two starts after dropping his previous nine (0-8-1).
                        PREDICTION: Oilers 3, Wild 2

                          Preview: Dallas at Arizona
When: 9:00 PM ET, Thursday, February 18, 2016
Where: Gila River Arena, Glendale, Arizona
After playing their last six road games against their fellow Central Division representatives, the Dallas Stars will test their mettle versus a foe from the Pacific on Thursday as they visit the Arizona Coyotes. Dallas won the first five of those contests before dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to St. Louis on Tuesday to fall to 7-1-1 in its last nine.
Rookie forward Mattias Janmark scored in overtime in a 3-2 victory over Nashville on Monday before netting his third goal in as many games to force the extra session the following night versus the Blues. While Dallas is wrapping up a three-game road trip, Arizona breezed to its second victory in three contests following a five-game losing skid (0-4-1). Martin Hanzal, who has three goals in his last four contests, joined defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson with a tally and two assists in Monday’s 6-2 rout of struggling Montreal. “We were talking before the game about going hard to the net and making it hard on the goalie,”Hanzal told NHL.com. “We got the first couple of goals with hard work. These are games we have to have now.”
TV: 9 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Dallas), FSN Arizona
ABOUT THE STARS (37-15-6): After suffering a hard-luck setback against St. Louis, Kari Lehtonen looks to return to his winning ways when he faces Arizona – against which he was in net for all three victories last season to improve to 12-3-4 in his career versus the club. Defenseman Alex Goligoski set up a goal against the Blues and had two assists in his last encounter versus the Coyotes for his first career points against the team in 21 meetings. Tyler Seguin has enjoyed a scintillating stretch since the All-Star break, collecting five goals and as many assists in seven outings before being held off the scoresheet against St. Louis.
ABOUT THE COYOTES (26-24-6): Arizona’s goaltending carousel took another turn on Wednesday as the team recalled Niklas Treutle from Springfield of the American Hockey League. The move was necessitated after Anders Lindback suffered an injury to his Achilles tendon prior to Monday’s contest. The 24-year-old Treutle has yet to make his NHL debut, but likely will back up Louis Domingue as the latter is expected to make his 19th start in 21 games.

                          1. Dallas has won five of the last six meetings with Arizona.

                          3. Dallas sent LW Curtis McKenzie to Texas of the American Hockey League on Wednesday.

                            Preview: Anaheim at Vancouver
When: 10:00 PM ET, Thursday, February 18, 2016
Where: Rogers Arena, Vancouver, British Columbia
The Anaheim Ducks are 12-2-1 in their last 15 games and try to continue their meteoric rise in the Pacific Division when they conclude a season-long seven-game road trip Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks. Anaheim defeated Edmonton 5-3 on Tuesday for its third straight victory while extending its point streak to five games and climbing into second place, three points behind Pacific-leading Los Angeles with three games remaining against its southern California rival.
After spending much of the season as the lowest-scoring team in the NHL, the Ducks have exploded for 58 goals – or nearly four per game – during their recent run. “I think the last couple of times we’ve been tied in the second, we’ve been able to step it up a little bit and get enough for the win,” Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau told reporters. “When you can do that, that’s a real positive sign going forward. I think we couldn’t do that at the beginning (of the year), once a team got a goal up on us, we weren’t very good.” Vancouver dropped each of the first two contests of its three-game homestand 5-2 – the latest to Minnesota on Monday – and sits six points out of a wild-card spot in the Western Conference after losing its fifth straight at home (0-4-1) while scoring seven goals during that span. “You want to be buyers at the trade deadline (Feb. 29) and we want to put ourselves in a position to make the playoffs,” Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis told reporters. “We certainly don’t want to put ourselves into position where everyone is talking about a rebuild.”
TV: 10 p.m. ET, Prime Ticket, FSN San Diego (Anaheim), Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver)
ABOUT THE DUCKS (29-19-8): Anaheim had five different goal-scorers Tuesday including defenseman Hampus Lindholm, who tallied for the second consecutive contest to set a career high for a season with eight. David Perron continues to thrive on a line centered by captain Ryan Getzlaf (team-high 38 assists) with three goals in his last four games and six in 13 contests to go along with seven assists since being acquired from Pittsburgh. Goaltender John Gibson missed the last two games after taking a knee to the head during a collision in Chicago on Saturday and remains day-to-day.
ABOUT THE CANUCKS (22-22-12): Vancouver is only 9-12-5 at home and Daniel Sedin, who leads the team in goals (22) and points (46), knows why. “On the road we focus on defense, each and every guy,” Sedin told reporters. “We take care of defense first and we’ll take the chances we get. At home there’s too many guys trying to produce and push for offense. It’s pretty obvious. We are a different team on the road than we are at home.” If the Canucks continue to struggle, Radim Vrbata is a candidate to be moved at the trade deadline, but he hasn’t scored in 12 games and has 11 goals this season after recording 31 in 2014-15.
                            OVERTIME
                            1. The Ducks have won five straight against the Pacific Division.
                            2. Anaheim, which is 5-for-10 on the power play in its last three games, has fallen from No. 1 to No. 3 in penalty killing after yielding seven power-play goals in 22 chances over the last five contests.
                            3. Vancouver won two of the first three of five meetings this season, including 2-1 in a shootout Jan. 1.
                            PREDICTION: Ducks 3, Canucks 2
