    Re: NHL Betting Info. 2/15

    Preview: Boston at Columbus
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 16, 2016
    Where: Nationwide Arena, Columbus, Ohio
The Boston Bruins have some growing concerns about goaltender Tuukka Rask and their defense as they continue a six-game road trip with a visit to the resurgent Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. Rask has failed to get through two of his last three starts after surrendering five goals in each of the setbacks for the Bruins.
Boston had a six-game road winning streak halted Sunday in a 6-5 loss at Detroit, a game in which it coughed up an early two-goal lead. The Bruins squeezed out a 3-2 shootout win over the Blue Jackets on Jan. 23 to improve to 8-2-0 against them in the past 10 meetings. Columbus is in the midst of its best stretch of the season, extending its point streak to five games (4-0-1) with a 4-2 victory over Ottawa on Saturday. “We’re getting that feeling, excitement back in our game,” forward Brandon Saad said. “Anytime you string some wins together and the streak we have with forcing games to overtime and bouncing back like we do, it’s exciting for the team. We’re feeling good about ourselves.”
TV: 7 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), FSN Ohio (Columbus)
ABOUT THE BRUINS (30-20-6): Brad Marchand did not waste any time extending his goal-scoring streak to seven games, setting a franchise record for the fastest tally by scoring only eight seconds into the matchup against Detroit. Marchand, who was named the NHL Third Star of the Week on Monday, is the first player since Anaheim’s Teemu Selanne (Feb. 10-March 5, 1999) to score a goal in 12 of 13 games, including one in last month’s win over Columbus. Marchand has eight goals and three assists during his seven-game binge and needs one tally to eclipse his career high of 28 set in 2011-12.
ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (23-28-6): Although Columbus activated goaltender Curtis McElhinney from injured reserve on Monday, rookie Joonas Korpisalo will get the nod against Boston and attempt to build on his 8-1-2 mark over his last 11 outings. Defenseman Seth Jones, acquired in a trade for Ryan Johansen last month, set up a pair of goals in Saturday’s win to set a career high with 20 assists. “I think the most important thing is we’re playing consistent,” Jones said. “I think we’ve showed signs of playing like this, but we haven’t done it consistently. Right now, we are.”
    OVERTIME
    1. Bruins leading scorer Patrice Bergeron remains day-to-day after missing the past two games.
    2. Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella was at practice Monday for the first time since suffering broken ribs on Jan. 22 in a collision.
    3. Boston is 1-for-28 on the power play over the past eight games and has failed to convert on 11 chances in the past three contests.
PREDICTION: Blue Jackets 3, Bruins 2

      Preview: Buffalo at Ottawa
When: 7:30 PM ET, Tuesday, February 16, 2016
Where: Canadian Tire Centre, Ottawa, Ontario
Evander Kane has helped the Buffalo Sabres awake from a recent offensive slumber, but the rugged forward had trouble getting out of bed on Monday after attending the NBA All-Star Game. As a result of missing the morning practice, Kane will sit out Tuesday’s tilt with the host Ottawa Senators despite scoring three goals in the last two games and six in the past eight.
“He slept in, called (general manager) Tim (Murray) and myself, broke a team rule,” coach Dan Bylsma told the Buffalo News on Monday. “We’ll be dealing with it internally but he will not be playing in Ottawa. I’m disappointed.” The Senators also have been disappointing of late, having dropped three in a row to fall further behind in the race for an elusive postseason spot. Ottawa announced its intentions for making a playoff push after being involved in a nine-player deal last week to acquire veteran defeneseman Dion Phaneuf, who overcame a rocky debut on Wednesday to record three assists in the last two contests. Mika Zibanejad notched a pair of assists in a 4-2 loss to Columbus on Saturday, but has just one goal in his last 10 games overall and one in 13 career meetings with Buffalo.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, RDS (Buffalo), WPCW (Ottawa)
ABOUT THE SABRES (23-28-6): Rookie Jack Eichel scored a highlight-reel goal in Sunday’s 4-1 victory over Colorado and tallied three times in two meetings with Ottawa this season. The second overall pick netted his first career NHL goal in a 3-1 setback to the Senators on Oct. 8 and added two more tallies in Buffalo’s 3-2 win in Ottawa on Jan. 26. Ryan O’Reilly has set up a pair of goals in back-to-back contests, driving his assist total to nine in his last seven games and a club-best 32 on the season.
ABOUT THE SENATORS (25-26-6): Captain Erik Karlsson has four assists during the team’s losing skid and 11 in seven contests since the All-Star break. Karlsson’s last tally came against Buffalo last month and the 25-year-old Swede has recorded 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) in 28 career meetings with the Sabres. Fellow defenseman Mark Borowiecki did not practice on Monday after hitting his head on the boards during a collision with Brandon Saad in Saturday’s game.
      OVERTIME
      1. Buffalo G Robin Lehner, who owns a 3-1-1 mark in his last five decisions, has stopped 45 of 48 shots in two career outings against the team that selected him in the second round of the 2009 draft.
      2. Ottawa has five power-play goals in the last four games after going 1-for-14 in the previous six.
      3. Senators RW Bobby Ryan, who scored on Saturday, also tallied against the Sabres on Jan. 26 for his seventh goal in 15 career meetings with the Atlantic Division rival.
      PREDICTION: Sabres 4, Senators 2

Preview: San Jose at Tampa Bay
When: 7:30 PM ET, Tuesday, February 16, 2016
        Where: Amalie Arena, Tampa, Florida
The San Jose Sharks look to continue their road success and solidify a playoff position when they start a five-game road trip Tuesday against the suddenly struggling Tampa Bay Lightning. The Sharks own the best record away from home in the Western Conference (18-8-2) and were winners in their last two visits to Tampa Bay.
San Jose is 3-1-1 in its last five contests overall after a 4-1 home victory over Arizona on Saturday, and veteran Joe Thornton has played a big role in the team’s revival with points in 15 of his last 16 games. The Lightning were rolling along with 11 wins in 13 contests before dropping three of their last four, and it could have been an 0-4-0 stretch if not for a late power-play goal Friday against Nashville. Tampa Bay outshot St. Louis 38-21 in a 2-1 loss on Sunday and has allowed 14 goals during the four-game span. “We’ve just got to regroup here,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper told reporters. “Everybody around us is winning.”
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, CSN California (San Jose), Sun Sports (Tampa Bay)
ABOUT THE SHARKS (29-20-5): While captain Joe Pavelski (52 points), defenseman Brent Burns (48 points, four assists in last two games), Thornton (seven points in last five games) and Patrick Marleau (17 goals) continue to do their thing, San Jose is showing its depth. The fourth line of Melker Karlsson, Dainius Zubrus and Chris Tierney combined for three points Saturday. “When we play like that, we can lower the minutes of everybody else,” coach Peter DeBoer told reporters of the fourth unit. “We can play fresher, play with a little bit more energy.”
ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (30-21-4): General manager Steve Yzerman ended speculation Monday, saying the team would not deal impending free-agent captain Steven Stamkos before the Feb. 29 trade deadline. Yzerman said in a statement, “With 27 games remaining in the season, our entire organization, Steven included, wants to focus on making the playoffs,” and they’ll keep negotiations private. Stamkos is second on the team with 22 goals and 42 points but has netted just two tallies in his last 12 contests and registered two or fewer shots in five of the past six.
        OVERTIME
        1. Tampa Bay RW Nikita Kucherov leads the team in goals (23) and points (48) after tallying in two straight games.
        2. San Jose is 7-for-20 on the power play over its last four games and ranked third in the league (23 percent) through Sunday.
        3. Lightning D Matt Carle’s next game will be the 700th of his NHL career.
        PREDICTION: Sharks 4, Lightning 2

          Preview: Dallas at St. Louis
When: 8:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 16, 2016
Where: Scottrade Center, St. Louis, Missouri
The Dallas Stars have used a tremendous first half of the month to climb back to the top of the Central Division standings and look to continue their strong play when they visit the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday. Dallas lost eight of its first 10 games in January to fall behind Chicago for the top spot in the division but won the final contest of that month and has begun February with a 6-1-0 mark to pull even with the Blackhawks in points and has three games in hand.
Mattias Janmark scored in back-to-back games for the first time since the start of the season, tallying in overtime Monday to give the Stars their fourth consecutive victory, 3-2 in Nashville. St. Louis also is enjoying a strong February as it improved to 4-1-1 this month with Sunday’s 2-1 triumph at Tampa Bay. The Blues have lost in regulation only three times in their last 17 contests (9-3-5) and are firmly entrenched in third place in the Central, six points behind the Stars and Blackhawks. St. Louis won both previous home meetings with the Stars this season while Dallas captured the only matchup in the Lone Star State.
          TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCSN
ABOUT THE STARS (37-15-5): Tyler Seguin was back in the lineup Monday, two days after exiting a contest with a cut on his wrist, and notched an assist to remain one point behind captain Jamie Benn (64) for the team lead. The 24-year-old Seguin is riding a five-game point streak during which he has recorded three goals and five assists. Benn also enters Tuesday’s contest with a five-game run that has seen him score once and set up five others.
ABOUT THE BLUES (32-17-9): Alex Steen has scored only one goal in his last seven games but is four away from 200 for his career. The 31-year-old also will hit the 20-goal mark for the fifth time overall and third in a row with four more tallies. Captain David Backes, who has scored once in his last 12 contests, is two away from the 200-goal plateau.
          OVERTIME
          1. The Stars have won five straight on the road.
          2. St. Louis G Brian Elliott has allowed fewer than two goals in six of his last nine starts.
          3. Dallas C Jason Spezza has missed five consecutive games with an upper-body injury.
          PREDICTION: Blues 3, Stars 2

            Preview: Anaheim at Edmonton
When: 9:00 PM ET, Tuesday, February 16, 2016
            Where: Rexall Place, Edmonton, Alberta
Anaheim spent a good part of the season as the lowest-scoring team in the NHL, but those days are long gone as the red-hot Ducks visit the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Anaheim improved to 11-2-1 in its last 14 games with a 6-4 victory over Calgary on Monday to bring its goal total to 53 during that span, and the club is 3-1-1 on its season-high seven-game road trip that will take it through all four time zones.
Anaheim moved past San Jose into second place in the Pacific Division, five points behind Los Angeles with three games remaining against its Southern California rival. “We’re figuring out ways to win, that’s for sure,” Ducks blue-liner Cam Fowler told reporters after the less-than-stellar defensive performance by a club that allows the seventh-fewest goals in the league. “It’s not how we like to do it.” Edmonton lost 2-1 in a shootout to Winnipeg on Saturday in the second contest of a six-game homestand for its fourth setback in five games (1-3-1). Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot, who allowed three goals in splitting two meetings with Anaheim this season, is expected to play after missing Saturday’s game because of the flu, telling reporters: “I’m feeling great (Monday). I think it was just a 24-hour thing.”
TV: 9 p.m. ET, Prime Ticket, FSN San Diego (Anaheim), Sportsnet West (Edmonton)
ABOUT THE DUCKS (28-19-8): With Chris Stewart sidelined 4-to-8 weeks with a broken jaw, coach Bruce Boudreau continued his auditions for the chance to join a line centered by captain Ryan Getzlaf that also includes David Perron. Monday’s participant was Mike Santorelli, who recorded his first multi-goal performance since Dec. 8, 2013 with a pair to raise his season total to nine. Frederik Andersen was in goal Monday with John Gibson out after taking a knee to the head during a collision in Saturday’s 3-2 overtime victory in Chicago, and if Gibson cannot go Tuesday, Anton Khudobin – called up from San Diego of the American Hockey League – may start.
ABOUT THE OILERS (22-29-6): Connor McDavid, the top pick in the 2015 draft, was unsuccessful on his first career shootout attempt and also held off the scoresheet Saturday for only the second time in seven games since returning from a broken left clavicle. The 19-year-old center, who recorded two goals and three assists in Edmonton’s 5-2 victory over Toronto on Thursday, has notched four tallies and eight assists since coming back. Taylor Hall, who shares the team lead with Jordan Eberle in goals with 18 and boasts a club-best 32 assists, hasn’t recorded a point in five games and has registered only two assists since McDavid’s return.
            OVERTIME
            1. The Oilers are 1-for-17 on the power play over their last five games and 11-for-11 on the penalty kill in the last two contests.
            2. Anaheim owns the top penalty-killing unit in the NHL at 87.6 percent, but has yielded at least one power-play goal in a season-high four straight games and six of its last seven contests.
            3. The Ducks have won 16 of the last 21 meetings in Edmonton.
            PREDICTION: Ducks 3, Oilers 2
