    Preview: L.A. Lakers At Indiana
When: 7:00 PM ET, Monday, February 8, 2016
Where: Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, Indiana
Kobe Bryant seeks to continue his recent scoring splurge when the Los Angeles Lakers visit the Indiana Pacers on Monday. Bryant scored 25 points in Saturday’s 106-102 loss to the San Antonio Spurs and is averaging 28.3 points over the last four games.
Indiana star Paul George recorded 39 points in a 107-103 victory over Los Angeles on Nov. 29 and is primed to match or exceed Bryant’s production in this encounter. The All-Star forward poured in 30 points as the Pacers defeated the Detroit Pistons 112-104 on Saturday for his 16th 30-point outing of the campaign. “I think I am just getting back to being patient,” George said afterward. “I’ve been real antsy through a stretch, and now I can notice a difference. It’s just slowing down the pace and continuing to play the right way.” The Lakers are playing well and registered consecutive wins over the New Orleans Pelicans and Minnesota Timberwolves before battling the Spurs down to the end.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, TWC SportsNet (Los Angeles), FSN Indiana
ABOUT THE LAKERS (11-42): Bryant’s four-game run has occurred despite a balky shoulder that typically leaves his status unknown until the day of the game. He has made 19 3-pointers during the stretch – including seven in one contest against Minnesota – and has scored at least 23 points in each game. Bryant isn’t the only player dealing with an ailment – center Roy Hibbert and power forward Julius Randle both are dealing with ankle injuries and their respective availabilities will be firmed up Monday.
ABOUT THE PACERS (27-24): George has posted consecutive 30-point outings and is back in a groove after failing to reach 20 points in seven of the previous nine games. He has been able to spend more time playing small forward – which he prefers – due to the recent rise of rookie power forward Myles Turner. The youngster has scored in double digits in 10 of the past 12 games and is averaging 15.6 points during the stretch.
    BUZZER BEATERS
    1. Bryant had 13 points on 4-of-20 shooting in the November loss to the Pacers.
    2. Indiana backup Rodney Stuckey (foot) will miss his 14th consecutive game and won’t play again until after the All-Star break.
    3. Hibbert had eight points and nine rebounds in the November meeting in his first game against the Pacers after spending his first seven seasons with the organization.
    PREDICTION: Pacers 108, Lakers 96

      Preview: L.A. Clippers At Philadelphia

When: 7:00 PM ET, Monday, February 8, 2016
Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The Los Angeles Clippers are used to easy victories over Philadelphia and look to enjoy another rout when they visit the 76ers on Monday. The Clippers have beaten Philadelphia eight consecutive times and the last four contests have been decided by more than 20 points, including wins by 45, 36 and 31 points.
Los Angeles struggled against Miami on Sunday but was able to manage a 100-93 victory over the Heat. “This was a team win because nobody really had it going,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers said afterward. “But our defense really had it going all game.” Philadelphia ended a four-game skid with a 103-98 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday to increase its victory total to eight. The 76ers hope to have point guard Ish Smith (ankle) back in the lineup after he sat out against the Nets.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, Prime Ticket (Los Angeles), CSN Philadelphia
ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (34-17): Los Angeles point guard Austin Rivers suffered a broken left hand and will be sidelined about four-to-six weeks. Rivers suffered the injury during Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves and an MRI exam revealed the break, but coach Doc Rivers said the team won’t make an immediate signing. “We may have to make a decision but we’re just going to try to ride it out,” the coach said.
ABOUT THE 76ERS (8-43): Philadelphia continues to investigate how to best utilize young big men Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel, and coach Brett Brown had Okafor playing center on offense and power forward on defense – vice versa for Noel – against the Nets. “We’ve talked freely about it amongst our group, and so that’s my job,” Brown told reporters. “That’s what we’re about. We get a look at different things. It’s never perfect, but what is most imperfect is not trying it, so try it we will.” Okafor had 22 points and 17 rebounds against Brooklyn and Noel scored 18 points.
      BUZZER BEATERS
      1. The Clippers have won by an average of 23.9 points during their eight-game winning streak against the 76ers.
      2. Los Angeles PG Chris Paul has topped 20 points in three straight games but was just 8-of-23 shooting while scoring 22 against Miami.
      3. Philadelphia rookie PG T.J. McConnell matched his season best of 17 points while starting in place of Smith on Saturday.
      PREDICTION: Clippers 118, 76ers 101

        Preview: Denver At Brooklyn
When: 7:30 PM ET, Monday, February 8, 2016
Where: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York
The Brooklyn Nets have not won back-to-back games since early December and missed out on another chance to do just that with a loss at the NBA-worst Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. The Nets will try to take advantage of the road-weary Denver Nuggets and at least pick up two wins in three games when they play host on Monday.
Brooklyn cannot be accused of tanking since their first-round draft pick belongs to the Boston Celtics this June, but the recent results on the court have it tumbling toward the bottom of the East. The Nets, who fired coach Lionel Hollins and reassigned general manager Billy King last month, are reportedly beginning to take steps toward correcting their future with general manager interviews scheduled for next week. The Nuggets managed to provide the Denver area with some good feelings in advance of the Super Bowl on Sunday by taking down the New York Knicks 101-96 hours before the game on Sunday. The Nuggets have won their last two games, and each of their last six victories have come against Eastern Conference opponents.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Altitude (Denver), YES (Brooklyn)
ABOUT THE NUGGETS (21-31): Denver rookie point guard Emmanuel Mudiay has come on of late and is doing his best work late in games. Mudiay scored 10 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter during Friday’s 115-110 win over the Bulls and nine of his 15 in the fourth against the Knicks on Sunday. The 19-year-old failed to reach double digits in scoring in either of the first two games this month but picked it up along with the rest of the offense in the last two games and added nine assists and no turnovers on Sunday.
ABOUT THE NETS (13-39): Denver assistant general manager Arturas Karnisovas is one of several NBA executives reportedly set to meet with Brooklyn owner Mikhail Prokhorov and other members of the search committee over the next few days. On the court, the Nets scored 128 points in a win over the Sacramento Kings on Friday but failed to force a similar pace against one the NBA’s worst-scoring defenses in a 103-98 loss to the 76ers on Saturday. Veteran swingman Joe Johnson went for 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting in Friday’s victory before slumping to nine points on 2-of-8 the next night.
        BUZZER BEATERS
        1. Nets F Thaddeus Young is averaging 17.3 points and 12.7 rebounds in three straight double-doubles.
        2. Denver F Darrell Arthur (quadriceps) sat out the last three games and remains day-to-day.
        3. Brooklyn has taken the last three in the series.
        PREDICTION: Nuggets 96, Nets 92

          Preview: Toronto At Detroit
When: 7:30 PM ET, Monday, February 8, 2016
Where: The Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, Michigan
The Toronto Raptors have won 13 of their last 14 games behind their All-Star backcourt to move within two games of the Cleveland Cavaliers atop the Eastern Conference. Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan will try to push the Raptors to 3-1 on their six-game road trip when they visit the Detroit Pistons on Monday.
Toronto fell at Denver on Feb. 1 to snap a franchise-record 11-game winning streak but picked itself up with wins at Phoenix and Portland as the two stars shouldered the load. Lowry, who was voted a starter for next weekend’s All-Star Game in Toronto, averaged 28 points in the two victories while DeRozan, who will serve as a reserve, put up 25.5 in the wins. The Pistons don’t seem to be in a position to stop that type of scoring and have allowed 100 or more points in six straight games while going 2-4 in that span. “That we weren’t ready to play and that we didn’t compete on the defensive end of the floor,” Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy told reporters when asked what his biggest takeaway was from Saturday’s 112-104 loss to the Indiana Pacers.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Sportsnet One (Toronto), FSN Detroit
ABOUT THE RAPTORS (34-16): Toronto has been off since Thursday, when Lowry (30) and DeRozan (29) combined for 59 points in a 110-103 win over the Trail Blazers. “DeMar was aggressive and stayed aggressive throughout the game,” Lowry told reporters. “His aggressiveness really helped set the tempo and set the standard for us throughout the game.” DeRozan ranks third in the NBA in free-throw attempts per game (8.2) and attempted an average of 9.8 in the last four contests.
ABOUT THE PISTONS (27-25): Detroit point guard Reggie Jackson led the way with 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting on Saturday but was unhappy with the team’s performance. “We’re going to need to put together more than a one-game win streak,” Jackson told reporters. “It’s something for us to be worried about. We have to get better at more communication. We’ve got to be in the right spot. More communication will lead to more energy and more energy will help us get a defensive stop.” The Pistons allowed the Pacers to shoot 53.9 percent from the field, including 6-of-11 from 3-point range in the latest setback.
          BUZZER BEATERS
          1. Jackson is 12-of-21 from 3-point range in the last four games.
          2. Raptors F James Johnson (ankle) is not expected to play.
          3. Toronto earned a 111-107 home win over Detroit on Jan. 30 behind 29 points from DeRozan.
          PREDICTION: Raptors 102, Pistons 99

            Preview: Orlando At Atlanta
When: 8:00 PM ET, Monday, February 8, 2016
            Where: Philips Arena, Atlanta, Georgia
The Atlanta Hawks lost just 22 games last season while reaching the Eastern Conference finals, but Atlanta already has more defeats this season following Sunday’s loss at the Orlando Magic. The Hawks get a shot at instant redemption Monday, hosting the Magic in the back-half of a home-and-home series after Nikola Vucevic nailed a buzzer-beating jumper in Orlando’s 96-94 victory Sunday.
The Magic won for just the second time in their past 12 games, but nearly gave it away by squandering a 94-86 lead before Vucevic’s heroics. “We’ve had a lot of games where we appear to have control of the game,” Orlando coach Scott Skiles told reporters after the Magic went scoreless from just inside the four-minute mark until Vucevic’s 18-foot game winner. While Orlando has made a habit of struggling to closing out games, Atlanta continues to fall behind early in contests, trailing by 14 points in the first half. “We have to stop putting ourselves in that situation of being down 14 on the road,” Atlanta forward Paul Millsap lamented to the media afterward. “It is unacceptable.”
TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Orlando), FSN Southeast (Atlanta)
ABOUT THE MAGIC (22-28): Vucevic fell one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 22 points and nine rebounds while making up for several costly turnovers down the stretch as the Hawks rallied. Orlando has played 12 games decided by three points or less – the highest total in the NBA – and are 5-7 in those contests. Elfrid Payton dished out 12 assists after recording only two total in his past two games, while Evan Fournier scored 21 points to reach double figures for just the second time in his last five contests.
ABOUT THE HAWKS (30-23): Atlanta’s three-game winning streak came to a halt as the Hawks struggled from the field, shooting 38.5 percent after converting 52 percent of their attempts during the streak. Center Al Horford shot 54 percent in his previous five games before a 5-of-15 performance Sunday, while Jeff Teague (24 points) and Kent Bazemore (23 points) paced the Atlanta offense. The Hawks’ bench, which has played well, finished with only 12 points on 3-of-18 shooting.
            BUZZER BEATERS
            1. Sunday’s victory marks the Magic’s fourth in the past 21 meetings with Atlanta.
            2. Orlando played Sunday without F Tobias Harris, who missed his first game of the season with a sore left ankle.
            3. Atlanta C Tiago Splitter did not play for a fourth consecutive game due to a hip injury, and likely will not be back before next weekend’s All-Star break.
            PREDICTION: Hawks 103, Magic 96

              Preview: Portland At Memphis
When: 8:00 PM ET, Monday, February 8, 2016
              Where: FedExForum, Memphis, Tennessee
A pair of teams that have been climbing the ladder in the Western Conference meet Monday when Memphis hosts Portland in the fourth and final meeting between the squads. The Trail Blazers have won 10 of their last 13 and are coming off one of their most impressive triumphs of the season, a 17-point win at Houston on Saturday.
Damian Lillard had 21 points and 10 assists and Portland held the Rockets to 32.5 percent shooting, a season low for a Blazers’ opponent. “That was a really good win,” Portland coach Terry Stotts told the media. “Defensively we were solid all (game).” The Grizzlies had won nine of 10 and four in a row before falling in overtime to Dallas on Saturday, which also snapped their six-game home winning streak. After losing in Portland early in the season, Memphis has claimed the last two meetings, most recently a 91-78 decision on Jan. 4, when former Blazer Zach Randolph led the victors with 26 points and 18 rebounds.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, CSN Northwest (Portland), FSN Southeast (Memphis)
ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (25-27): Portland has held five of its last six opponents under 100 points as defense keys the surge. Meanwhile, Lillard is playing some of his best basketball of the season with three straight double-doubles for the first time in his career. He and backcourt mate C.J. McCollum combined for 11 3-pointers in the first meeting with Memphis, but they went a collective 5-of-27 from beyond the arc in the next two.
ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (30-21): Forward Jeff Green missed all four of his 3-point tries and was 4-of-14 overall in an off night against Dallas, ending a solid run for the veteran. He averaged 19 points in 28 minutes in 10 games after being moved to the bench in the middle of January, sparking his team’s 9-1 run. Matt Barnes, who was also transferred to a reserve role last month after an extended stretch in the starting lineup, picked up some of the slack against Dallas with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
              BUZZER BEATERS
              1. Grizzlies SG Courtney Lee is 14-of-25 from 3-point range over a seven-game span.
              2. With a win, Memphis would take the season series for the fourth straight time.
              3. Portland PF Noah Vonleh has missed two games in a row with an ankle injury.
PREDICTION: Grizzlies 97, Trail Blazers 92

                Preview: New Orleans At Minnesota
When: 8:00 PM ET, Monday, February 8, 2016
                Where: Target Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota
The New Orleans Pelicans are sliding out of the Western Conference playoff race and look to halt a four-game losing streak when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday. New Orleans has fallen seven games behind the eighth-place Utah Jazz during its latest skid and is a dismal 5-20 on the road.
The Pelicans have fared well against Minnesota recently by emerging victorious in each of the past six meetings. All-Star power forward Anthony Davis has been attempting to carry the club while the starting backcourt of Eric Gordon (broken finger) and Tyreke Evans (knee) deal with injuries. Minnesota has posted back-to-back impressive victories over the Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls and finished the game with a decisive 12-0 run in Saturday’s 112-105 win over Chicago. “There’s a change in their body language, their mentality, how they walk in the gym, how they practice and prepare,” Wolves coach Sam Mitchell told reporters of his young squad. “When I walk in the locker room before the game, there’s a certain professionalism. These young guys are learning what it takes to be pros.”
TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN New Orleans, FSN North (Minnesota)
ABOUT THE PELICANS (18-32): The absences of Gordon and Evans have created an opportunity for Norris Cole, and the journeyman is taking advantage of his opportunity. Cole has scored in double digits in eight of the past nine games and scored a career-high 26 points in Saturday’s 99-84 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on the same day that Cleveland State retired his No. 30 jersey. “I always feel good when I come to Cleveland,” Cole told reporters. “It was fun to be able to see all the old faces and new faces at Cleveland State. I appreciate them honoring me like that and appreciating the work that I’ve been able to put in. I love my school, so it was special for me.”
ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (16-36): Second-year shooting guard Andrew Wiggins is emerging as a star and is averaging 27.3 points over the last three games after a 21-point performance against Chicago. The inside duo of rookie Karl-Anthony Towns and third-year pro Gorgui Dieng are meshing well and both had big games versus the Bulls – Towns had 26 points and 17 rebounds and Dieng had a career-high 24 points to go with 10 boards. “Those two are playing so well together,” Mitchell said after the win. “We’re just at the point in the season where you’ve got to bring positive minutes to the floor.”
                BUZZER BEATERS
                1. Davis had 35 points as the Pelicans overcame a 17-point deficit to record a 114-99 victory over the Timberwolves on Jan. 19.
                2. New Orleans backup SF Ryan Anderson is just 3-of-18 from 3-point range and averaging 10.5 points during the four-game slide.
                3. Dieng is averaging 17.6 points and 9.9 rebounds over the last seven contests.
                PREDICTION: Pelicans 102, Timberwolves 98

                  Preview: Oklahoma City At Phoenix

When: 9:00 PM ET, Monday, February 8, 2016
Where: Talking Stick Resort Arena, Phoenix, Arizona
Phoenix interim coach Earl Watson is still looking for his first victory but the upcoming schedule is doing him no favors. The Suns have lost their first three games under Watson, and recording a win before the All-Star break might be tough as Phoenix hosts the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday and then the defending champion Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.
The three setbacks under Watson – including a 98-89 loss to Utah on Saturday – stretch Phoenix’s losing streak to seven games and 24 of its last 27. “It seems like we can’t get it together,” rookie shooting guard Devin Booker told reporters after the loss to the Jazz. “Either we start off a game good or we finish a game good. We won the last three quarters, but the big deficit in the first quarter hurt us. We just have to maintain the same drive and energy the whole game.” The Thunder will be aiming to bounce back after suffering a 116-108 loss to the Warriors on Saturday. The defeat was just the second in 14 games for Oklahoma City, which received 40 points and 14 rebounds from All-Star forward Kevin Durant.
TV: 9 p.m. ET, FSN Oklahoma, FSN Arizona (Phoenix)
ABOUT THE THUNDER (38-14): Oklahoma City stands third in the Western Conference despite its lengthy strong play and Durant delivered a message to the Warriors and San Antonio Spurs after the loss. “Man we’re not scared of either one of these teams,” Durant told reporters. “We’re going to play our game. Nobody in this locker room is scared. We have to play them. If we want to get to where we want to get to, we have to play them. We’re not ducking anybody.” All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook had 27 points and 12 assists against Golden State for his sixth straight double-double and is averaging 24.7 points and 12.7 assists during the stretch.
ABOUT THE SUNS (14-38): Point guard Brandon Knight (groin) will miss his 10th straight game and won’t play again until after the All-Star break, and the team misses his presence while trying to force-feed Archie Goodwin at the point. “Archie is young. He’s trying to figure it out and he’s going to figure it out,” Watson told reporters. “Sooner or later, Brandon Knight’s going to be back, (backup) Ronnie Price is going to be back and these nine-point, seven-point and six-point losses eventually become (wins).” Power forward Markieff Morris is out of the doghouse with Jeff Hornacek fired and is averaging 20.3 points in three games since Watson became coach.
                  BUZZER BEATERS
                  1. The Thunder are 2-0 against the Suns this season and have won 16 of the past 19 meetings.
                  2. Phoenix backup F Mirza Teletovic has recorded back-to-back 15-point performances.
                  3. Oklahoma City backup C Enes Kanter is averaging 17.2 points and 9.4 rebounds with three double-doubles over the past five games.
                  PREDICTION: Thunder 107, Suns 99
