  • FOX Orders New Reboot Series 24: Legacy

FOX Chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman made the announcement today at the TCA winter press tour. The executive producers are Howard Gordon, Manny Coto, Brian Grazer, Kiefer Sutherland and Evan Katz. It will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and Gordon’s Teakwood Lane Productions. It will feature a completely new cast but keep the “real-time, pulse-pounding, fast-paced” style it’s known for with split screens and complex storylines. Each episode will still represent one hour of a single day.

The new series will follow a military hero, who returns to the US with trouble following him. He eventually asks the CTU for help to save his live and stop what could be one of the biggest terrorist attacks on American soil ever. It’s based on the original series, which was created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran.

Kiefer Sutherland is returning to primetime television with Designated Survivor, an ABC conspiracy thriller drama, in which the 24 star will play the President of the United States. Designated Survivor, which was written on spec by David Guggenheim (Safe House), has received a straight-to-series order. The script, with Sutherland attached to star and Simon Kinberg (The Martian, X-Men, Days Of Future Past) to executive produce for the Mark Gordon Company, sparked a major bidding war before landing at ABC.

In Designated Survivor, a lower level United States Cabinet member (Sutherland) is suddenly appointed President after a catastrophic attack during the State of the Union kills everyone above him in the Presidential line of succession. This is a family drama wrapped around a conspiracy thriller about an ordinary man in an extraordinary situation.

They talked about a Deadwood movie. I have a feeling if done they don't use the original cast.
Justified according to writers was always intended to be the amount of seasons they did.
But things could change the original script had Boyd being dead in the first episode.

The 24 reboot probably had a better chance if they would have used the guy that played Tony to replace Jack.
Maybe even using the first season to try and rescue Jack from Russia.
I'm sure 24 fans will watch the first episode or two. So they better be pretty good.
Online the hardcore 24 fans are already pissed that nobody from the original series is part of this.
Jack and Chloe have moved on to other shows.

Jimmy Smits has signed onto FOX’s 24 revival. FOX announced today that Smits will play John Donovan in the series. Donovan a powerful U.S. Senator with higher political aspirations, who is married to the blazing smart former head of CTU (Miranda Otto).
