    Re: NBA Betting Info. 1/8

    'Rough road ahead'

Every team has that one team where it's always a struggle. The New York Knicks have not had success solving Spurs posting a 6-14 record the past 20 meetings (9-10-1 ATS) and have won just twice the past twelve trips into Alamo City (4-7-1 ATS). The jinks, hex, curse or whatever you want to call it, won't be easy to overcome.

San Antonio playing tremendous basketball at both ends of the floor behind a league 3rd best in points scored per 100 possesions (108.4) and ranking tops in the league allowing opponents 93.4 per 100 possessions haven't loss AT&T Center this season (21-0, 16-5 ATS) winning by 16.9 points/game. Going back to last March, the Spurs are an amazing 30-0 (24-6 ATS) on home court in regular season netting 107.2 points/game while allowing visitors a lowly 89.4 per/contest.

Spurs have opened -13.0 point favorte. A higher price on a game is always cause to ratchet up the tension for a sports handicapper. However, in this case, the numbers add up well enough to conclude Spurs are the right choice. San Antonio is a profitable 11-4 as double digit home chalk. The fact that New York is off a win over Miami in which they shoot 55.7% from the field is more good news for San Antonio backers. That's because, Knicks have cashed just a single ticket last five games as underdogs after shooting the light's out (1-4 ATS). Additionally, Knicks do not respond against the betting line following a game against the Heat (0-4-1 ATS). As always best of luck.

        NBA Betting Roadmap, Week 11
        Al McMordie
The NBA season is a little over two months old, and there has been little in the way of surprises this year. The top two teams were expected to be the Warriors and Spurs (and they are). And the best team out East was expected to be Cleveland (and it is). Perhaps the only surprise has been the play of the three other Western Conference semi-finalists from last season (Rockets, Clippers and Grizzlies), as each of those teams has struggled this season. But with three-fifths of the season to go, there’s more than enough time for teams to get their groove back. Let’s take a look at the upcoming week.
        Spread Watch
Go figure. The Clippers had underwhelmed this season through the game vs. the Lakers on Christmas, in which Blake Griffin tore his left quadriceps tendon. At December 25, the Clippers were 17-13 straight-up, and 10-16-4 ATS. And they failed to cover the spread by an average of 2.6 ppg. But, in their five games without their best player, they’re a perfect 5-0, both straight-up and ATS. And they’ve covered by an average of 9.9 ppg. I’m not ready to proclaim that the Clippers are back to being contenders. After all, the five teams they defeated (Utah, Washington, Charlotte, New Orleans and Philadelphia) have losing records. This week, the Clippers’ schedule remains soft, with zero games against winning teams. As they say, timing is everything. If the Clippers had lost Griffin immediately before a difficult stretch in their schedule, they would have felt his absence much more. As it stands, they’ve been able to win without him. But this, I believe, sets them up for a loss on Wednesday, at Portland, given that the Clippers have only covered 22 of their last 63 on the road, if they were on a 4-game (or better) pointspread win streak.
        Total Watch
Kyrie Irving returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ lineup on December 20, against Philadelphia. Since then, Cleveland has gone ‘under’ the total in seven games in a row. The primary reason has been on the defensive end. Cleveland has held its last seven opponents to 89.57 ppg (compared to a defensive average of 96.0 ppg at the time Irving returned). This week, Cleveland has a home game vs. Toronto, prior to going on the road to play the Wizards, T-Wolves and Sixers. Washington has also played its last four (and six of its last seven) games ‘Under’ the total. The first meeting this season between the teams went ‘Under’ by 23 points, so that will be a situation to watch.
        Schedule Watch
There’s always been a lot made of the NBA schedule with regard to back-to-back games, four games in five nights, etc. So much so, that the league made a conscious decision this summer to reduce the number of back-to-backs. But this season, the least rested teams have been an ATM machine in Vegas. Consider that unrested teams playing their fifth game in seven nights are a spectacular 28-7-1 ATS this season, including a perfect 9-0 ATS if our “tired” team’s win percentage is at least .133 better than its opponent’s win percentage. This week, we will have four teams fall into our general angle: Golden State (at Lakers, Jan. 5), Toronto (at Philly, Jan. 9), Miami (at Utah, Jan. 9), and Utah (at Lakers, Jan. 10). And the chances are good that all four will also fall into our .133 Win Percentage Differential tightener (check Miami/Utah’s win percentages on Jan. 9). The Golden State situation (at the Lakers) would be my fave of the bunch, given that the Dubs are 20-7-2 ATS their last 29 when playing without rest, while the Lakers are 6-14 ATS their last 20 when playing foes in a five game/seven nights situation. Good luck, as always…Al McMordie.

          Preview: Toronto At Washington
When: 7:00 PM ET, Friday, January 8, 2016
Where: Verizon Center, Washington, District of Columbia
Washington and Toronto had the first two meetings decided by a total of five points, with the Raptors coming out on top in each. The slumping Wizards will try to get a little revenge and pull even on their four-game homestand when they host Toronto in the finale on Friday.
Cory Joseph buried a last-second 3-pointer to lift the Raptors in an 84-82 win at Washington on Nov. 28, and DeMar DeRozan poured in 34 points to guide Toronto to a 97-91 home win over the Wizards on Dec. 30. That most recent setback was one of four in the last five games for Washington, which endured problems on both ends of the court. The Wizards began the homestand with a win over the Orlando Magic to open the new year but then shot 34.1 percent from the floor in a loss to Miami and bounced back on the offensive end only to see the defense suffer in Wednesday’s 121-115 loss to Cleveland. Toronto surrendered an average of 118.5 points in back-to-back losses before locking down on the defensive end in a 91-74 win at Brooklyn on Wednesday.
TV: 7p.m. ET, SportsNet One (Toronto), CSN Mid-Atlantic (Washington)
ABOUT THE RAPTORS (22-15): Toronto learned on Wednesday that small forward DeMarre Carroll, who had served as the team’s best perimeter defender, would miss up to two months after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. Carroll sat out a 122-100 loss to Cleveland on Monday, and the Raptors were still getting used to having center Jonas Valanciunas back from a broken hand after Bismack Biyombo had provided a strong defensive presence in the middle in his absence. Everything came together on Wednesday, when Valanciunas went for 22 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks while Toronto held Brooklyn to 39.7 percent from the field.
ABOUT THE WIZARDS (15-18): Washington is slowly getting some of its injured players back and shot 55.3 percent from the field in Wednesday’s loss to Cleveland. Nene (calf) missed over a month but returned on Wednesday and went 3-of-4 from the field in 12 minutes off the bench while Gary Neal (quad) came back from five games off and went 5-of-8 en route to 13 points in 21 minutes. The Wizards are still waiting on Bradley Beal (leg), Drew Gooden (calf) and Kris Humphries (knee) to come back to the rotation.
          BUZZER BEATERS
          1. Wizards PG John Wall went 4-of-4 from 3-point range on Wednesday after hitting 1-of-15 from beyond the arc in the previous three contests.
          2. Biyombo is averaging 17 minutes off the bench in the last three games.
          3. Toronto PG Kyle Lowry was held to 11 points on 2-of-12 shooting in the last meeting.

          PREDICTION: Raptors 101, Wizards 97

            Preview: Orlando At Brooklyn
When: 7:30 PM ET, Friday, January 8, 2016
Where: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York
The stumbling Orlando Magic will attempt to revive their dormant offense when they visit Brooklyn on Friday. One of the surprise teams in the crowded Eastern Conference race with their 19-13 start, the Magic have suddenly dropped four in a row – albeit against some quality opponents – while averaging 86.3 points.
They were right on that mark in a 95-86 home loss to Indiana on Wednesday, shooting a woeful 6-of-31 from 3-point range. Elfrid Payton’s ankle injury has been one of the primary issues, as the second-year guard has missed the last two games after playing sparingly in the previous three, including a five-minute effort in a 100-93 win over the Nets on Dec. 30. Brooklyn has dropped the first two games of a three-game homestand and registered its worst offensive showing of the season in a 91-74 loss to Toronto on Wednesday. That was the eighth consecutive home loss for the Nets, whose last win at the Barclays Center came against lowly Philadelphia on Dec. 10.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Orlando), YES (Brooklyn)
ABOUT THE MAGIC (19-17): While one of the franchise building blocks is sidelined in the form of Payton, two others – forwards Tobias Harris and Evan Fournier – are slumping. Harris was held to single digits for the second time in three games on Wednesday and missed all six of his 3-point tries, while Fournier followed up 26 minutes of scoreless action at Detroit on Monday with 13 points against the Pacers, but he was just 1-of-6 from long range. The former first-round pick, who made 1-of-6 shots from the floor in his last visit to Brooklyn on Dec. 14, is shooting 28 percent overall in this last three games.
ABOUT THE NETS (10-25): Brooklyn did not boast much depth even before losing point guard Jarrett Jack to a torn ACL, and now that lack of support is even more striking. Seven reserves combined for 13 points on 5-of-19 shooting and had eight of the team’s 18 turnovers in the blowout loss to Toronto. Brook Lopez remained the steadying force in the middle with 24 points and 13 rebounds, his seventh double-double in a span of nine games.
            BUZZER BEATERS
            1. Magic C Nikola Vucevic had 20 points and nine rebounds in last week’s win over the Nets.
            2. Nets SG Bojan Bogdanovic has scored in double figures in four straight games, matching the longest stretch of his two-year career.
            3. Orlando entered Thursday last in the NBA in free-throw attempts (18.3), while Brooklyn was 28th (19.6).
            PREDICTION: Nets 99, Magic 98

              Preview: Denver At Memphis
When: 8:00 PM ET, Friday, January 8, 2016
              Where: FedExForum, Memphis, Tennessee
The Denver Nuggets halted a six-game losing streak and aim to win consecutive games for the first time since mid-December when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. The Nuggets used stingy defense to end their skid and held Minnesota to nine fourth-quarter points while posting a 78-74 victory on Wednesday.
Denver’s win over the Timberwolves was just its second in the last 11 games and the 74 points was the fewest it has allowed this season. “It wasn’t pretty basketball at times,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone told reporters, “but there’s no such thing as an ugly win.” Memphis is in the midst of a lackluster 6-8 stretch and was routed 112-94 by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. The Grizzlies are beginning a six-game homestand and could be without point guard Mike Conley (Achilles’ tendon) for the second straight contest.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, Altitude 2 (Denver), FSN Southeast (Memphis)
ABOUT THE NUGGETS (13-23): Small forward Danilo Gallinari had 20 points against Minnesota and is averaging 24.3 points in three outings since returning from a six-game absence due to an ankle injury. Gallinari has reached double figures in each of his last 18 games and is averaging a career-best 18 points per game. Center Jusuf Nurkic has provided a boost since returning from knee surgery last Saturday and had 15 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots in 22 minutes against the Timberwolves.
ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (19-18): Center Marc Gasol has suffered through back-to-back poor efforts and is averaging 7.5 points on 5-of-23 shooting during the stretch. Gasol was a nonfactor while missing nine of 11 shots in 24 minutes against the Thunder and took responsibility for his poor play afterward. “At some point, I’ve got to make a stand,” Gasol told reporters. “No waiting for anybody to make a play for me or get an easy shot. I’m just going to break on plays and take it to the hole.”
              BUZZER BEATERS
              1. The Nuggets have dropped five straight contests in Memphis.
              2. Memphis backup G Mario Chalmers had 23 points against Oklahoma City along with season bests in both assists (nine) and rebounds (eight).
              3. Denver PG Emmanuel Mudiay (ankle) was a late scratch against Minnesota to miss his 13th consecutive game but is expected to play on Friday.
              PREDICTION: Grizzlies 92, Nuggets 89

                Preview: Cleveland At Minnesota
When: 8:00 PM ET, Friday, January 8, 2016
                Where: Target Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ scoring problems reached a new low in the fourth quarter on Wednesday, and things are not getting any easier. The Timberwolves will try to find a way to keep up with Kyrie Irving and company when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.
Minnesota failed to reached 100 points in any of its last nine games – losing eight – and managed only nine points in the fourth quarter of a 78-74 home loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday. “We have to keep tweaking things to be able to score the ball a little bit,” Timberwolves interim coach Sam Mitchell told reporters. “We’re not a great shooting team. It’s something we have to continue to teach and work on.” The Cavaliers are winners of five straight and went over 120 points in each of the last two wins as Irving settles into an everyday role. Irving reached season highs in each of those two games, topped by 32 points in Wednesday’s 122-115 win at Washington.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN, FSN Ohio (Cleveland)
ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (24-9): Irving, who suffered a fractured kneecap during the NBA Finals, played only his seventh game since returning on Wednesday and has yet to play in a back-to-back. “Obviously it was encouraging and exciting for him and for us,” coach David Blatt told reporters of the performance against the Wizards. “I would still stay in timbering mode. Those are two pretty big performances after being out for so long, it’s only reasonable to expect that he’s gonna go through a process and still have days when he’s better and days when he’s gonna have some signs that he was out.” Irving is 24-of-38 from the field in the last two games.
ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (12-24): Rookie Karl-Anthony Towns and reigning Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins both had multiple opportunities to score down the stretch but could not get anything to fall against the Nuggets. The two needed 28 shots to score a combined 25 points on Wednesday, and Towns has slumped to an average of 10 points in the last three games. “We have to win,” center Karl-Anthony Towns said after scoring 14 points with 14 rebounds. “We have to change the tide. We can’t keep losing these games.”
                BUZZER BEATERS
                1. Timberwolves C Nikola Pekovic (Achilles) made his season debut on Wednesday and recorded 12 points in 16 minutes off the bench.
                2. Cavaliers G J.R. Smith is 13-of-24 from 3-point range in the last two games.
                3. Cleveland took both meetings last season by an average of 18.5 points.
                PREDICTION: Cavaliers 112, Timberwolves 85

                  Preview: Indiana At New Orleans
When: 8:00 PM ET, Friday, January 8, 2016
Where: Smoothie King Center, New Orleans, Louisiana
The Indiana Pacers look to extend their winning streak over New Orleans to nine games when they visit the Pelicans on Friday. Indiana recorded double-digit victories in both of last season’s meetings and hasn’t lost to New Orleans since April 3, 2011.
The Pacers were slumping with six losses in nine games before recording a 95-86 road victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday and hope they are about to get on a roll. Small forward Paul George is in the midst of a torrid four-game stretch in which he has topped 30 three times while averaging 28.8 points. New Orleans continues to be a major disappointment, and coach Alvin Gentry was miffed when his team dropped a 100-91 decision on Wednesday to a Dallas Mavericks’ team resting four starters. “I wish I had answers,” Gentry told reporters. “I don’t have answers, but we’re going to come up with answers. It’s not fair to the fans. It’s not fair for anybody for us to come out and have that kind of effort. I’m really disappointed in the way we approached the game.”
TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN Indiana, FSN New Orleans
ABOUT THE PACERS (20-15): Guard Monta Ellis is playing well and scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half – including six in the final minute – in the victory over Orlando. Ellis is averaging 18 points and eight assists over the past two games and has scored in double digits in each of the last eight contests. “We like to put the ball in his hands and let him make the reads,” Indiana coach George Vogel told reporters. “He made some big shots, made some big passes.”
ABOUT THE PELICANS (11-23): Expectations were high after New Orleans won 45 games last season and made the playoffs, so the stunning collapse has been bothersome to the players as well as Gentry. “It’s frustrating for sure, but we’re going to figure it out,” standout power forward Anthony Davis told reporters. “I know I sound like a broken record, but it’s what has to happen. It should be fun trying to get out of this. We’ve got to make sure we stay positive.” Davis did his part against the Mavericks with 26 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and three blocked shots and has 11 double-doubles in the past 13 games.
                  BUZZER BEATERS
                  1. The Pacers have been victorious in each of their past four visits to New Orleans.
                  2. Indiana swingman C.J. Miles is 6-of-23 shooting over the past three contests.
                  3. New Orleans SF Ryan Anderson is 6-of-24 from the field over the last two games.
                  PREDICTION: Pacers 102, Pelicans 97

                    Preview: Dallas At Milwaukee
When: 8:00 PM ET, Friday, January 8, 2016
Where: BMO Harris Bradley Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The Dallas Mavericks are playing so well that sitting four starters still results in a win. The Mavericks will have their starters back as they go for a seventh win in nine games with a visit to the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday.
Dallas needed two overtimes to pick up a 117-116 win on Tuesday against the Sacramento Kings and decided to rest all but Chandler Parsons the next night, and the team still managed to hang a 100-91 win on the New Orleans Pelicans. “Well, we are deep,” Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle told reporters. “Nights like (Wednesday), you never like sitting down four starters, but we did feel it was necessary. We also felt that we had enough to win the game if we played the right way.” The Bucks have not had enough to win no matter who was in uniform of late, and they enter Friday losers of five their last seven. Milwaukee’s defense is the big issue, and the team surrendered an average of 117 points in those five losses.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Dallas), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)
ABOUT THE MAVERICKS (21-15): Parsons was coming along slowly after undergoing knee surgery and was taking one of two nights of back-to-backs off until late December, yet he was the one starter to go in both games this week. Parsons took advantage of the opportunity to be the main scorer and went for season highs of 21 points and eight rebounds in the win over New Orleans. “First of all, this is a really huge win for us. We understood that a lot of our guys were sitting tonight, so it’s going to give other guys opportunity,” Parsons echoed. “So many guys stepped up, and we played together. We played unselfish.”
ABOUT THE BUCKS (14-23): Milwaukee allowed the San Antonio Spurs to shoot 54.4 percent in a 123-98 home loss on Monday and yielded 55.4 points to the Chicago Bulls in a 117-106 setback the next night. “Some of it is basic fundamentals in terms of being in a stance or getting back in transition,” interim coach Joe Prunty told reporters. “Some of it is assignments; knowing tendencies, what guys want to do. Some of it is getting in the right scheme. Some of it is communication. But look, it’s on all of us.” The defensive issues are overshadowing a strong stretch from point guard Michael Carter-Williams, who is 15-of-24 from the field in the last two games.

                    3. Dallas has taken six straight in the series, including a 103-93 home win on Dec. 28.

Preview: New York At San Antonio
When: 8:30 PM ET, Friday, January 8, 2016
Where: AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas
The San Antonio Spurs keep rolling at home and look to improve to 22-0 this season when they host the New York Knicks on Friday. The Spurs have won 30 consecutive home games dating back to last season, and the latest edition was an easy 123-98 victory over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday.
San Antonio has won six straight overall games by an average of 20.3 points and 13 of its last 14. The Spurs shot 60.5 percent from the field and matched a season high for points in the rout of Utah, and have averaged 122.3 points over the last three games. New York is also playing well with three straight victories, and Wednesday’s 98-90 road win against the Miami Heat allowed the Knicks to top last season’s 17-win total. “We were intense, but there was a relaxed look, as if we were in control of what we wanted to do,” Knicks coach Derek Fisher told reporters after the victory. “It takes a while to develop that, and it’s hard to keep that.”
TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), FSN Southwest (San Antonio)
ABOUT THE KNICKS (18-19): Small forward Carmelo Anthony had 25 points versus Miami and did it on efficient 9-of-12 shooting as he notched his fifth 20-point outing in the past six games. “I thought he was patient,” Fisher said. “That’s something he’s been working on hard to develop as the season has gone on. I think he can be efficient when he plays relaxed, poised and confident. Anthony has shown more of a willingness to play team basketball this season and his average of 3.7 assists ranks second highest in his career behind a 3.8 average with the Denver Nuggets in 2006-07.
ABOUT THE SPURS (31-6): Point guard Tony Parker (hip) has sat out the last two games and it is unclear whether he will be fit to play against the Knicks. Power forward LaMarcus Aldridge was rested against Utah and center Tim Duncan reverted to a scoring role with a season-best 18 points while power forward David West moved into the starting lineup to contribute 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting and collect a season-high 13 rebounds. “We’re going through the process of trying to get better every game,” West told reporters. “Continue to protect our home court and continue to focus on our defense. Regardless of who plays, we’re trying to make sure that we attempt to make it perfect.”

                      1. SF Kawhi Leonard had 18 points and 14 rebounds as the Spurs defeated the Knicks 94-84 on Nov. 2.
                      2. New York C Robin Lopez is averaging 14.7 points on 20-of-33 shooting during the three-game winning streak.
                      3. San Antonio SG Danny Green made two 3-pointers against Utah to move into second place in franchise history with 662, passing Bruce Bowen (661 from 2001-09).
                      PREDICTION: Spurs 109, Knicks 95

                        Preview: Golden State At Portland
When: 10:00 PM ET, Friday, January 8, 2016
Where: Moda Center at the Rose Quarter, Portland, Oregon
The Portland Trail Blazers will be setting their lineup and checking it twice when they host the Golden State Warriors on Friday. The Trail Blazers had to hold out guard C.J. McCollum from a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday after a clerical error made the team’s second-leading scorer inactive.
Portland can use all the scorers it can find against the NBA-best Warriors, who lead the league in scoring average at 113.7 points and have run their latest winning streak to four straight. Golden State star Stephen Curry is playing through a shin contusion but is not expected to miss any more games. “He’s not risking his career or anything by this,” Dr. Brian Schulz, who works for the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, told the San Francisco Chronicle. “He’s just going to have to deal with pain, which he’s proven in the past is not a big deal for him. It’s not a serious thing, but it’s definitely something that could annoy him.” The Trail Blazers just got their star point guard, Damian Lillard, back from a seven-game absence due to plantar fasciitis but have lost the two games with him in the lineup.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (33-2): Golden State is working Harrison Barnes (ankle) back into the lineup after a lengthy absence while monitoring Curry, who had to come out of Tuesday’s win over the Los Angeles Lakers before talking his way back onto the court. “I’m not going to sit out four weeks, so we’ve just got to figure out how to protect it when I’m out there on the floor and keep playing,” Curry told reporters. “We’ve done a good amount. I’ve just had a couple of unlucky plays. We’ll keep addressing it and keep treating it, I’ll keep playing, and hopefully, over time, I’ll get through it.” Klay Thompson is picking up some of Curry’s scoring slack by averaging 32.5 points in the last four games.
ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (15-23): Lillard is 11-of-39 from the field and has 10 turnovers in the last two games but was up to 43 minutes of playing time in the 109-98 loss on Wednesday without McCollum alongside. “Every game we fill out an active-inactive list,” head coach Terry Stotts told reporters. “C.J. was mistakenly put inactive instead of Luis (Montero). I signed the paper without really noticing it but it’s my fault for not looking at it. Although we caught the error, we thought that we caught it in time, apparently we did not. C.J. was ruled inactive and that was that.” Portland is 0-2 on its five-game homestand and has dates against Oklahoma City and Utah coming up after Golden State.

                        1. Warriors C Festus Ezeli (toe) missed the last five games and is questionable to return on Friday.
                        2. Portland F Allen Crabbe scored 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting while starting in place of McCollum on Wednesday.
                        3. Golden State took all three meetings last season by an average of 10 points.
PREDICTION: Warriors 120, Trail Blazers 99

Preview: Oklahoma City At L.A. Lakers
When: 10:30 PM ET, Friday, January 8, 2016
Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California
The Oklahoma City Thunder clobbered the Los Angeles Lakers twice in December and attempt to deliver another beating when the teams meet Friday in Los Angeles. The Thunder won the two meetings by 40 and 35 points and are looking to post their seven consecutive victory over the Lakers.
Oklahoma City held Los Angeles to an average of 81.5 points and shooting percentages of 34.9 and 36 percent from the field in the two recent routs. The Thunder have won 14 of their last 17 overall games and Wednesday’s 112-94 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies marked the 12th time in 13 games they scored 100 or more points. The Lakers lost 118-115 to the Sacramento Kings in a contest in which they trailed by as many as 27 points for their second straight setback since a season-long, three-game winning streak. Rookie point guard D’Angelo Russell poured in a season-best 27 points but suffered a sprained right ankle late in the contest and postgame X-rays were negative.
TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, FSN Oklahoma, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles)
ABOUT THE THUNDER (25-11): Small forward Kevin Durant has scored 20 or more points in each of his last 21 games and contributed 26 points and a season-best 17 rebounds against the Grizzlies. Durant missed Oklahoma City’s previous game – a loss to Sacramento on Monday – with a sprained toe and started off 2-of-10 shooting against Memphis before rebounding with 17 second-half points on 7-of-8 shooting. “I came back from halftime and told myself I had to focus on every shot because I missed so many early on – it could’ve been a 2-for-17 night for me,” Durant told reporters. “So I tried to turn it in to something good that second half.”
ABOUT THE LAKERS (8-29): Small forward Kobe Bryant returned from a two-game absence because of a shoulder injury and poured in 28 points in 31 minutes against the Kings to join Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone as the only players to top 33,000 career points. Bryant, who has 33,010, has scored 20 or more in six of his past 10 contests but sat out the final 12 minutes as youngsters Jordan Clarkson and Russell led the spirited comeback. “I wasn’t worried about getting out there in the fourth quarter,” Bryant said afterward. “It’s important for this team to learn how to (compete in close games).”
                          BUZZER BEATERS
                          1. The Thunder have won 12 of the past 15 meetings.
                          2. Los Angeles backup F Brandon Bass had a career-best five steals against Sacramento while playing a season-high 36 minutes.
                          3. Oklahoma City PG Russell Westbrook is 17-of-55 shooting – including 3-of-14 from 3-point range – over the past three games.
                          PREDICTION: Thunder 126, Lakers 97
