Re: MLB Off Season Trade News, Rumors and Signings

Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports that the White Sox have agreed to a three-year contract with Melky Cabrera, pending a physical.
Exact terms aren't yet known, but the contract is expected to the in the $45 million range. It was reported on Friday that the Mariners made a three-year offer, but Cabrera apparently preferred the offer he got from Chicago. The 30-year-old batted .301/.351/.458 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI in 139 games this past season for the Blue Jays and further strengthens Chicago's lineup

The 30-year-old third baseman drew serious interest this winter from the Giants, Astros, and Marlins, but the Yanks have outbid them all to bring Headley back on board.

Re: MLB Off Season Trade News, Rumors and Signings

According to Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM, the three-team Wil Myers trade is "done."
Bowden has the breakdown of who's heading where: Padres shortstop prospect Trea Turner and pitching prospect Joe Ross will go to the Nationals. Myers, Ryan Hanigan, and minor league pitchers Jose Castillo and Gerardo Reyes will go to the Padres. Steven Souza, Travis Ott, Rene Rivera, Burch Smith, and Jake Bauers will go to the Rays (with Ott and Souza coming from the Nats). All the players involved need to pass physicals before the trade can be made official.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Royals have struck a two-year, $20 million contract with free agent starter Edinson Volquez.

Reds acquired OF Marlon Byrd and cash considerations from the Phillies for RHP Ben Lively.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Chris Denorfia has agreed to a one-year contract with the Cubs, pending a physical.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, Ben Zobrist is "very likely to go somewhere" via trade.
Tampa Bay signed free agent Asdrubal Cabrera on Tuesday and the plan is to start him at second base in 2015, making Zobrist expendable. Heyman notes that Zobrist is capable of playing just about anywhere on the diamond, so he's a fit for a large range of teams.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Astros have agreed to acquire Evan Gattis from the Braves.
The deal is pending a physical, which is why Gattis is in Houston on Wednesday. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Braves will receive right-hander Mike Foltynewicz, third baseman Rio Ruiz, and right-hander Andrew Thurman in return, which is a nice haul for someone who was a poor fit for their roster

William Ladson of MLB.com reports Tyler Clippard is going to the Athletics in the Yunel Escobar trade.
Escobar is heading to the Nationals, but he was the only confirmed member of the trade before Ladson's report. Clippard, 29, has been terrific as a late-inning reliever in recent years, posting a 2.18 ERA and 82/23 K/BB ratio in 70 1/3 innings this past season. Clippard should have a chance to close games in Oakland

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that James Shields' agent, Page Odle, has been in "recent" contact with the Tigers.
The Tigers are either lining up potential alternatives to Max Scherzer or simply using this as a smokescreen in an effort to get Scherzer's price down. Shields, 33, is expected to receive a contract around $100 million, with the Diamondbacks, Marlins, Red Sox and Giants all showing varying degrees of interest.
