US Open Betting: Opening Day Preview

Monday, August 26 kicks off the opening day of tennis' final Grand Slam of the year in Flushing Meadows, NY. While defending men's champion Andy Murray doesn't kick off his title defense until Tuesday, defending women's champion Serena Williams will begin her charge to repeat on opening day. Here are some matches to watch on opening day at the US Open:

Serena Williams vs. Francesca Schiavone: The defending champion and top player in the world enters the US Open having made the finals in her last three tournaments; all on hard courts. Williams did lose her last match to rival Vika Azarenka and should be able to take out the frustrations of that loss on the clay court specialist Schiavone.

Ryan Harrison vs. Rafael Nadal: The most in form player in men's tennis Rafael Nadal looks to win his 2nd US Open as he opens up against American Ryan Harrison. Nadal has won two straight tournaments (including a win over Novak Djokovic in the process) and has yet to lose a match on hard courts this year. One of those wins was over Harrison at Indian Wells. Harrison played Nadal well in the first set losing in a tiebreak prior to succumbing to Nadal's relentless pressure in the second set. Can the American give Nadal a scare in New York?

Kirsten Flipkens vs. Venus Williams: The top matchup of Day 1 pits 2013 Wimbledon semifinalist Kirsten Flipkens against two time US Open Champion Venus Williams. This is a battle of styles as Williams is a power player while Flipkens is a crafty player who uses a lot of slices. Flipkens beat Williams early this summer in Toronto in a 3 set match. However, it needs to be noted that Williams has never lost in the opening round of the US Open in 14 previous appearances.

    Jelena Jankovic vs. Madison Keys:
Former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic has had a solid summer losing in her last two tournaments to eventual finalists in Sorana Cirstea (Toronto) and Vika Azarenka (Cincinnati). Jankovic is a good hard court player having made the finals here in 2007 and has made the semifinals in two of the biggest tournaments on the calendar (Indian Wells and Cincinnati) this year. Keys, an 18-year-old American, has struggled this summer with injuries and has been unable to get into a rhythm and string together consecutive victories. Keys has big time power and if her game is on could make for a competitive match. Otherwise, Jankovic will outclass her in straight sets.

US Open Betting: Day 2 Preview

The second day of the US Open is highlighted by Men's top-seed Novak Djokovic looking to regain the US Open Crown after losing a classic five set match in 2012 to Great Britain's Andy Murray. Djokovic takes on Lithuanian Ricardis Berkanis in a match Djokovic should win in an easy three sets. Three other matches to keep an eye on during Day 2:

John Isner - Filippo Volandri: The top-seeded American has had an excellent summer making the final in three of the four tournaments he has entered. Isner's serve has been nearly nonreturnable making it very difficult to beat him. Isner should easily beat Volandri and a Round of 16 match with Rafael Nadal would be excellent theatre.

Julia Goerges - Christina McHale: Former top 20 player Julia Goerges has really struggled post WImbledon winning just one of six matches. She takes on American Christina McHale who grew up only 30 minutes away from Flushing Meadows in New Jersey. McHale has lost all four of her matches post Wimbledon. One of these women will have the opportunity to turn their season around with a win.

Victoria Azarenka - Dinah Pfizenmaier: 2012 US Open Finalist Vika Azarenka begins her quest for her first US Open. Azarenka has had a great summer beating Serena Williams in an excellent final in Cincinnati. Azarenka played Pfizenmaier at the 2012 French Open winning 6-1 6-1. She should cruise in this matchup.

US Open Betting: Day 4 Preview

Americans take center stage in Day 4 of the US Open. Serena Williams looks to continue her dominance in Flushing Meadows as she takes on Kazakhstan's Galina Voskoboeva.

Williams was impressive in her opening-round win, losing just one game. She should continue to have easy matches throughout the first week. Two other matches to keep an eye on during Day 4:

John Isner (-275) vs. Gael Monfils (+200): Perhaps the best match of the day on paper. Hard-hitting American John Isner takes on the magician Gael Monfils. When Monfils is on his game, he's as entertaining to watch as anybody with his fantastic athletic ability and shot making. These two players have met six times in the past with each winning three. This is a treat and a must watch for any tennis fan, especially so early in the tournament.

Victoria Duval (+200) vs. Daniela Hantuchova (-275): The 18-year-old American Victoria Duval won her first Grand Slam match beating former U.S. Open Champion Sam Stosur in the biggest upset of the tournament thus far. Hantuchova is a crafty veteran, but has only won two matches this summer. Can Duval's magic continue? An upset here is certainly possible with the crowd rallying behind the young American
