Kobe Bryant (Achilles) will not play in the season opener according to coach Mike D'Antoni.
"No," D'Antoni said . "My God, I know he's Superman, but my God. He hasn't run yet." He added that Kobe was still ahead of schedule, but it's officially time to scale back expectations about his return date. Kobe told reporters about a month ago that he would need three weeks of "rigorous conditioning" after practicing before he would play in a game. His basketball activities have been limited to mostly set shooting and he has "not come close to practicing" according to beat writer Dave McMenamin.

Rookie Peyton Siva could start at point guard in Detroit's season opener on Wednesday.
With Rodney Stuckey (thumb) and Brandon Jennings (oral surgery) potentially sidelined, coach Maurice Cheeks said he doesn't know who would start in the opener alongside the other likely backcourt starter, Chauncey Billups. Cheeks indicated that he'd prefer to keep Will Bynum in his role with the second unit, so Siva could very well end up starting Wednesday night if Stuckey and Jennings can't suit up.

Russell Wesbtrook could return from his knee surgery within two weeks, according to Yahoo! Sports.
He was expected to be out for 4-6 weeks, but he's been with the team for over a week and has reportedly looked impressive. Westbrook's arthroscopic knee surgery was not considered serious and was based around a loose stitch.

Ty Lawson (groin) remains a game-time decision for Wednesday's game in Sacramento.
He practiced on Tuesday but didn't have any contact, and when asked about his status for the opener he replied, "We'll see tomorrow."

Will Bynum and Chauncey Billups will start in the Pistons' backcourt for Wednesday's season opener.
Brandon Jennings (mouth) is out and Rodney Stuckey (finger) may be a game-time decision, so Mo Cheeks will roll with his two healthy veterans.

Paul Pierce (jammed big toe) said before Wednesday's game, "Hopefully, I'll [play] tonight."
Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reports that "everyone expects [Pierce] to play," but his status may not be known with certainty until just before tip-off.

Tim Duncan suffered a chest contusion in Wednesday's game and will not return.

He'll finish with three points, six boards and two assists in 17 minutes. The severity of his injury is not known and the way the Spurs have always handled Duncan carefully, it's tough to tell if this is something that will force him to miss games

Updating a previous report, Derrick Rose (neck) fully expects to play in Thursday's home opener vs. New York.

The Cavaliers will wait until before tip-off to determine Andrew Bynum's status for games on Friday and Saturday.

An MRI confirmed that Tim Duncan suffered a chest contusion during Wednesday's game, and he's doubtful to play on Friday.
